Shocked by lack of features on Mac version compared to Windows. Why?

Just downloaded Premiere elements 11 and shocked to find that the full set of features are not supported on the mac version, most notably the chroma, green and blue keying effects/ filters. Why is this?? I use a mac not as a fashion statement, but because they are the industry standard for creative businesses. ALL photographic, graphic design, editing etc suites use macs, so why give these features to windows and NOT macs? Makes absolutely no sense at all and I am shocked not to mention disappointed!!

There are differences between the Mac and PC platform, and not just with Premiere Elements, but also Premiere Pro. The PC gets more Effects, and Transitions. This was first noted in Premiere Pro CS 3, when it was ported to the Mac. Before, with Premiere Pro 1.0, through CS 2/verson 2.0, the program was PC-only. When PrPro CS 3 was introduced, the Mac-users took note that their PC friends got more than they did.
At that time, there were many posts to the PrPro Forum, regarding the differences. Adobe engineers commented on the differences between how the two platforms handled some aspects of the program - and mainly display functions. This list of Effects & Transitions in CS 3, for Mac and PC, will show what was different between those two platforms: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/460313?tstart=1470 [Note: this was for PrPro, and it has/had many differences, from PrE, so this is not a clear difference chart between PrE for the Mac and the PC, but you can get the idea. It is for background reference use only.]
Something similar happened, when PrPro went from CS 4 to CS 5, which was a 64-bit program ONLY. A lot of Effects and such were lost in the new version, and some were "old stand-bys" for users of the earlier program. In time, a few DID show up in later versions of PrPro, but not all. Some were 32-bit only, and Adobe deemed it too expensive to port all of them to 64-bit, so they were just dropped, and have never reappeared. The same thing happened with many 3rd party plug-ins. Once, they were all 32-bit, and that worked up until CS 5. Most suppliers then went back to the lab, and recoded their plug-ins for 64-bit, but not all. Some just dropped their support for PrPro.
While this does not help you get your job done (ATR's blog post will, however, and that was also why I suggested other Effects for Keying), it shows that PrE is not alone with the differences between platforms.
Good luck and happy editing,
Hunt

  • Qucktime Pro for Windows lacks same features as Mac Version!?

I am very dissatified to learn (after purchasing) that QT Pro for windows does NOT have a Video Capture Feature.
The reps at Apple tech support all told me the program was exactly the same as the Mac version. So I purchased it only to discover no Video Capture option, only Audio.
I am writing on this forum:
    A) to let others know that this is not a bug,
    B) to let Apple become aware so that their own employees understand their products better.
    C) to help Apple realize that they need to change their website (as it just glosses over this issue with vague feature descriptions on the windows version of the QT Pro site and also in hopes that Apple will change its decisions to disable Windows versions in order to allow their Apple version to be slightly better for marketing reasons... there can be no reason why simple Video Capture (at least thru DV) shouldnt be in the software on the Win version and
    D) to ask if anyone knows of any 3rd party plugins that will allow for Video Capture thru QT Pro.
(so far my 2 previous posts were deleted... so I dont expect too much here, but I am trying to be constructive with my criticism. Apple please help!?)
(copying this message to tech support and Apple product management in case it is deleted, they will be also notified of that)
thanks for any help, I'm sorry it has come to this...
    Anyone know of a plugin?

thanks for finally answering. Even if you deleted the previous post, you could have emailed me about the issue. Instead it just disappeared.
I'm not an Apple employee. We're all just your fellow users here. I just know a complaint post when I see one.
So Why does the windows version "lack the support architecture
Only the QuickTime project engineers could answer that.
in the Mac version, it does say Video and Audio capture, and on the Win version, it says "Video and Audio Creation features" and it also lists Audio Capture... But dont you think it shoudl list somewhere "VIDEO CAPTURE FEATURE ala the Mac version is NOT INCLUDED". Why be vague about it?
It's not vague to me. If a feature isn't listed, I don't presume that it exists. But again, if you want to comment on this to Apple, use the Feedback page I gave in my previous post.
even tho you say there is no way a plugin would work, I did find a Java based plugin that is supposed to work... havent installed it yet.
I presume you're referring to QuickTime Capture. That's not a true QuickTime plugin, it's an applet, but we'd be getting into semantics, so I won't belabor the point. If that is indeed the Java applet you're referring to, it seems to be a frame-by-frame grabber, not a true video importer, so I'm not sure it's going to work for you. But of course there's no harm in trying it; it might do the job for you. If not, there are a lot of Windows video import utilities available (including the free Microsoft Movie Maker).

  • PDF Extended Features in Mac version

I recently made an interactive flyer for a silent to distribute to their channel partners. The flyer had locked art and text formatting, and a text area that is editable in Reader for the Partners to target their sales pitch. Everything went smoothly until I needed to provide a spot for Partners (using Reader) to drop in their own logo. NOT available on Mac version of 9 Pro, but I was able to do it on my friend's PC (because Acrobat Pro windows ships with tools from Livecycle). Anyone a plug in that may allow me to do this on a Mac, OR will Acrobat X include this very important feature for Mac platform?

YES I used an Image Field so that Reader Users could add their distributor
logo to the mfg branding. But there is no tool to create an Image Field in
Pro 9 Mac, only on the PC version. I'm looking for this capability in A-X(?)
or a plug in for Mac document creation.

  • Adobe Presenter - Mac version - 64 bit Windows version

I have a couple of Adobe Presenter questions that I hope someone can help answer.
Will there ever be a Mac version of Presenter to publish with?
Will the new version (Presenter 8) work on Office 64 bit and not just on 32 bit Office?
Will the new version of Presenter support published content for mobile devices in such formats as html 5?
    Thanks so much.

Mac version, no. This has to do with how Mac handles plug ins for software.
Presenter 8 does work in PPT 32 bit and 64 bit now. Just download the current installer from adobe.com.
Presenenter 8 does not publish to HTML 5, but there is an iOS app for viewing presentations. Just search for 'presentermobile' in iTunes.

  • Systems Preferences on Mac games compared to Windows

    Hello,
I am wondering why Mac games have higher system preferences compared to Windows games.
For example "The Movies" game on Mac requires:
Mac: OSX 10.4 Tiger or later,
    PPC G4 1.67 GHz,
    512MB RAM,
    64MB video card,
    DVD drive (minimum)
    Whilst on Windows:
    PC: Windows 98SE or later
    800 MHz CPU
    256MB RAM
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound and video card.
Now anyone can see the amount Windows needs compaired to Mac but why such a huge leap.
And this isn't only on "The Movies" it's the same with "Sims 2" and "Age of Empires"
If you know why could you please respond.
    Thanks,
    James

And to do with the OS under which they are released.
    For "The Movies",
an 800MHz CPU under Win98 is pretty **** fast, but load 2000 Pro, XP or Vista on an 800MHz and you're toast, even before you try to run the game.
On the Mac, "The Movies", released 5-6 years after the windows version, has either been written to take advantage of OSX 10.4, or maybe just tested under OSX 10.4, but in any case, because of the modern OS, it needs a lot more CPU.
It's also entirely likely, that because of the years waiting, the Mac version is better than the Windows version released all those years ago. This was true for all the SimCity versions up to SimCity 4 (SimCity 3 was awful on both plaforms) and the Civilization games. It may also be true for some of the Aspyr original games, rather than the vast number of ports they've written, ie. The Movies.

  • Firefox 7.0.1 does not remember/fill in username and password in Mac version although on Windows it works, so it's not the website preventing password being saved. what is up and how can this be fixed ?

There are several sites where I now have to type in my username and password each time I return, such as turnitin.com. (I'm a teacher and use this for grading). Friefox used to be able to remember this for that site and it still works at my office where I have a windows machine. Not working on my Mac OS 10.6.8 and it is really annoying to have to retype every single time; it's not a financial site or anything so why can't the Firefox browser remember and re enter my info?
And no, turnitin does not currently support Firefox 7 but it is only up to firefox 4 and up until now firefox at least worked to remember passwords.
I looked at http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Username%20and%20password%20not%20remembered and I have checked all the recommended browser settings and am not set to private browsing; the sites where this happens are not set in exceptions to remembering, and they are not set to be cleared automatically
So, what's up and why doesn't Firefox remember passwords and usernames any longer?

Now up to Firefox 8 and the problem persists. Cannot go to the www.turnitin.com page and login as I used to do -- Firefox does not remember my username or password.
Still works on Windows, and with other browsers... It would be great if a fix is available.

  • HT1727 Can I connect my iPod (mac version) to my windows desktop and download my itunes music to it?

I have an older iPod (15GB) and have successfully downloaded music from my Dad's old G4 (from his iTunes on that computer) and would now like to download my music from MY iTunes account on my PC. How can I do this? The iPod will connect,  but is not "formatted" for pc??

You should transfer all the content from your dad's old G4 to itunes on your laptop
here is a link to how to transfer music between computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Although just copying to a USB stick and then importing into your windows PC will probably work
Then connect the iPod to your laptop computer and it will prompt you to Erase and sync which is fine. The sync the content you want onto the iPod.
iPod are ios based and are not formatted for Mac or windows

  • Mobile version "fits in window"; why not 100%?

I have a mobile version of my site, loaded in Business Catalyst in a /mobile folder. Both built in Muse. When I view it in my smartphone, the page "tries" to fit in window. I want to show it at 100% and with scrolling. What's wrong?
    voydeshopping.businesscatalyst.com

    Thanks Nicole and Liam.
    It worked with the metadata!
If you let me do a suggestion, it would be useful a place to add these pieces of code in a "Template Properties..." window, as it's possible in "Page Properties...", instead of "Insert HTML..." box in the template head.

  • Is "Compare two Documents" only in the Mac version?

I see discussions that talk about comparing two documents using "Document>Compare Documents", but I can't find any kind of compare feature anywhere in the menu structure. I'm using Acrobat 9, Standard on Win XP here.
I have Acro Pro v5.0 at home and it's just not there.
I'm curious because I posted to Framers and got several responses directing me to the feature. I'm guessing this is just
a difference between the Mac version and the Windows version?
I'm trying to find something that will simplify the process of marking changes between two PDFs.
    Thanks in advance
    JPK

Any idea why the menu item would not be present?
I've got Adobe 9, Standard, version 9.2.0 installed. Is this perhaps something that could have been disabled at install or in an admin update?

    Hi,

  • Syncing iTunes across Different Platforms (Windws & PC) - Mac Version

I'm not sure where to put this questions so I'm adding it to the iTunes for Windows section as well. I have an iTouch that I have been using on my Windows platform iTunes. In addition to music, I also use iTunes to sync up my contacts and calendar list from Microsoft Office Outlook to my Touch.
Last week I switched to Mac and ported all my music to a new iTunes libary on my Mac. Due to issues with Office I can not use the Mac ver of office for my contacts and calendar.
I loaded VMware Fusion and Windows XP on my Mac and installed iTunes for Windows. I did not move any music, podcasts, etc... over to the Fusion/Windows iTunes - only my contacts and calendar info is on that version.
Now I have two instances of iTunes on my Mac... a Mac version and a Windows version under Fusion.
What I would like to do is:
    - Sync my iTouch for Music only using the iTunes running under Mac.
    - Sync my iTouch to the Windows version under Fusion for the contact list and calendar updates. This version will not have any music in the library.
    Questions:
    1) Can I do this without causing a melt down on my touch?
    2) What happens when you sync to a library without music? Does it erase the music on the touch?
    3) I haven't tried to sync my touch to the Mac yet- what will happen when a windows based touch tries to load a mac based iTunes?
If this doesnt work I guess I could reload all my music to the Fusion(PC) version of iTunes and be done with it but I would really like to use my Mac version.
    Thanks,
    Jim

You have got to be kidding! I have been trying for months to do this between my three machines. What exactly is the point to having an iTunes account for multiple machines if you can not have the same library across them? If this isn't the stupidest thing I've come across in years, honest to Pete...
What if I use a thumb drive to keep the directories manually synced? Or does apple go the extra step to prevent this too? Can you point to a library through the intranet? I could just put up a server and point my machines to it, boy wouldn't that be speedy and elegant.
I just want to scream this is so annoying. I might as well go back to a system that works, a Windows phone... The iPhone isn't that much nicer than my old tilt.

  • Can I change my Mac version of Flash for a Windows version?

Hey, I bought Flash Pro CS3 for Mac and was wondering if
there was any way I could change my Mac version for a Windows
    version? Any help is appreciated.

This is a good question for Adobe support, we are just users
    on this board.
I really don't know. You could try downloading the trial for
PC, installing it, then see if your Mac license key works to
activate it. My guess is that it will not, but it's worth a try.
But again, to really get this resolved you should contact
    Adobe support.
    Good luck.

  • Install both Win & Mac versions from same serial

I have Premiere Elements 9 which with separate installation disks for Windows and Mac version.
The windows version is already installed on my Windows 7 laptop and resgistered at Adobe.
Can I now install the Mac version on my Macbook too? It may sound a silly question since the serial number of both installations will be same.
I am not sure if it can be done or even if done once...one of them will not get automatically canceled by Adobe (since it keeps connecting the server).
Has anyone else thought or experienced this?
    Thanks!

As Steve points out, you can install on two separate computers. One consideration is that by the EULA, you cannot have both instances running at the same time.
    Good luck,
