Shockwave Flash 11.3 r300 wont upgrade on new Mac running OSX 10.7.4

Running a new MAC - with OSX 10.7.4 - Firefox plug in list said to update Shockwave Flash. Performed upgrade, restarted computer and the list still says I need to update Shockwave.
Please can you advise why this is happening and how I can resolve the issue.
Many thanks

No I meant that I will try to get the developers to fix the plugin check website so that it knows what the latest version of Flash is for Mac users.

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

Hi, hopefully you guys can help me out, I just
purchased a G5 iMac to replace my aging dell desktop,
and now i'm more or less completely os x dependant
(I've had an ibook for a few months now). Anyway, I
    have a few questions:
    1. Does anyone know of a (free) mail notifier tool,
that will alert me when I recieve new pop3 mail? I
used to use AIM for this in windows
The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.
    2. Anyone know of a good (free, again) IRC client?
    iChat works well.
    3. I noticed earlier that my screen was flickering,
it seems to have subsided for now, but is that normal
to encounter in a new display? It wasn't really bad
flicker, but I could see it.
    No idea.
    4. I leave my desktops on 24/7x365, will that be a
problem with this iMac? Display shuts off of course
    after 30 mins
You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
    5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
    as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.
    Thank you for any help,
    -Evan

  • Shockwave flash will not let me upgrade cause I messed up in trying.

I tried to many times to download shockwave flash and it now it won't let me and it shows still needs to be updated.

Thank-you Cor-el for trying to help me but firefox says it needs to be upgraded so I guess I'll just wait awhile and try again. The directions that are given for downloading were confusing to me cause I was reading the directions and clicked on the blue where the directions are instead of the blue that had just popped up to download. The directions do not fit on the page without moving the cursor and I just got lost doing it. Don't know why I didn't understand and did this I think 3 times and then it just blocked me. I had tried too many times. But I know how to do it and others the next time I have to download anything. I really appreciate you and others that are out there to help. I will checking that out. I don't know much so I doubt I could help anyone else but you never know. I might make someone's day and mine too if I could help someone. That would be awesome. Again Thanks.

  • Time Machine in loop after upgrade to new mac

    Hello everyone,
I just bought a new MacBook to substitute my old iMac.
With this upgrade I also went from OS X 10.5.8 (iMac) to 10.6.4 (new MacBook).
On installation I chose for the Migration Assistant to copy my data from the latest TM Backup.
    Everything went fine.
Then TM asked if I wanted to continue to use my old backups on the new MacBook (or similar).
And I accepted. Then the first backup started ...
*... and now TM seems to be stuck in an infinite Loop. =(*
    It goes like this:
    1) Mounting Time Capsule/Sparsebundle
    2) "Verifying XXX.XXX Objects ..."
    3) "Preparing XXX.XXX Objects ..."
    4) "Deleting old backups"
    4) Cleaning up
    5) Disk Image/Sparsebundle ejected
... and then it immediately restarts that same procedure.
Over and over again. Now for over 14 hours straight.
(I have already stopped the backup a few times, as I thought a restart of my Mac would fix anything.
Didn't help ... so now I just left it running for a night + half a day).
    Also weird:
    • The disk image is still called "Backup of iMac Eddy"
    • And when viewed in the Finder/on the Time Capsule it's named "iMac Eddy.sparsebundle"
    • There's no MAC address in that sparsebundle name ... (?)
    • I changed my Mac's name in the System Prefs/Sharing ... with no change at all to time TM image ...
Anybody know a solution or can give me a heads up?
    Thanks in advance

Yes, that will happen when Time Machine has to do a very large backup (such as, of a new Mac).
Because of the way Time Machine stores the backups, it's impossible to tell how much space will be gained by deleting a single backup without actually deleting it. So it deletes the oldest one, "compacts" the sparse bundle to recover the space, then checks again. That will continue until there's enough space, or only one backup is left (then it will fail.)
So, subtract the other sparse bundle and shared data from the TC's capacity. If the result isn't at least 2 1/2 times the size of the data on your system, you're going to have to delete the sparse bundle, so Time Machine can start over. (Since TM won't delete the last backup, it needs room for it, plus a new one, plus 20% workspace.)
If there is enough room, you can speed up the process a bit, by manually deleting a bunch of old backups, then compacting the sparse bundle, per #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
    There is another option.
Connect a USB drive, partitioned so there's separate space for those shared files, so Time Machine can't use up all the empty space, as it will on the TC's disk). Let Time Machine start fresh backing-up the new Mac to the USB drive, and leave the existing backups on the TC's internal HD until you're sure you don't need them, then delete them. You can always browse (and restore from) them, via the +*Browse ...+* option. See #17 in the FAQ.

Do I need to migrate my old FCP 5.0 to my new Mac Pro to install FCP2 studio upgrade???
I'd rather start with a clean OS and just install the new FCP but I don't know if I can just enter the old registration number or if I have to have old software on disc to upgrade???

    No.
Don't do that and it isn't necessary.
Just have your serial numbers handy, repair permissions before and after install with the Disk Utility and then run the software updater.

  • Upgrading to new Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard? Is it worth it?

    Hello,
I'm wondering if would be advisable or even possible to upgrade my os to the new Mac OS X v10.5.4 Leopard. I seem to come across issues where I can add new software as they require OS 10.4 or higher. My PC configuration is as follows:
    Machine Model: iMac G5
    CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 600 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 5.2.2f2
    GeForce FX 5200
    Hard disk: 80 GB
    System Version: Mac OS X 10.3.9 (7W98)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 7.9.0
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Regards,
    Kash

If you need to use software that requires it, then sure, use it. Your iMac is very capable, but there are just two caveats:
    - Buy more memory, perhaps another 512MB or 1GB, all those whizzy new features and functionality will require memory to run. Memory's never been cheaper.
    - You're going to lose the use of Classic, so any software you currently use that requires OS9 or Classic to run (or to install, even if there is an OSX patch later) will cease to work.
And maybe one more caveat, there's just a lot of other older software that is broken by Leopard (OSX 10.5). A search with Google will find a wealth of information of any issues with a software package and Leopard, it's been out for a year, so there will also be patches or upgrades available for most.

  • CS2 wont install on new Mac

When trying to instal CS2 on my new Mac, I keep getting 2 notices. the first states that I can't open HFSTest because Power PC applications are no longe supported. the 2nd notification states that my monitor and sublunch are no longer supported. what up with this?

CS2 only runs on PowerPC Macs or Intel Macs with earlier versions of the MacOSX (i.e. pre Lion).
New Macs use the Intel processor and the version of the MacOSX that they now run no longer supports CS2.
I'm afraid you have to start again as Adobe offer no upgrade route from CS2 as CS3 is the earliest version that qualifies.

  • Fonts are slightly off position after upgrading to new Mac OS X Snow Leopard

I just upgraded from a Macbook that was using OS X Tiger to a new Macbook with OS X Snow Leopard. Now, when I open my flash files on the new computer, they are rendering the fonts slightly differently and off position. I am using the same software (Flash CS4) and the same font library. Anyone ever encounter this problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks so much!

You are lucky they are only slightly off!
It seems that there is a serious problem with how the new Snow Leopard is reporting font metrics to all programs. Those from Adobe (particularily the ones for layout type like InDesign) seem to be the most affected.
I saw somewhere that it had something to do with some version of a Helvetica or HelveticaNeue font and that apple had give there font the same internal name as a different one and that was causing the problem. Some folks seem to suggest that replacing/removing the offending font worked. Others saw the problem mitigated, but not removed.
As far as I know the only solution is to go back to regular Leopard. But if you have a new machine that is most likely not possible.
    Sorry.

  • Problem with TimeCapsule after upgrading to new mac...

    hi,
I bought a new UniBody MacBook just before Xmas, and turned off TimeMachine during the upgrade from my PowerPC G4. Since then, until now, I stupidly forgot to turn it back on. Now I did remember, it doesn't work! It tells me it it failed with the detail of the error message "The backup disk image could not be created." So I chose the TimeCapsule disk again, enter the password, the settings reset, force it to back up now, and AGAIN it fails...
My HD is bigger (232GB) than the free space on the TimeCapsule disk (178GB), can that be the issue? The used space of course is smaller (54GB).
Time Machine was THE reason I upgraded to Leopard, and right now, I'm stuck, so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nadine

    Thank you Mark,
I found out in parallel this was my problem: not only was the computer not named in "Sharing"
[go to Preferences - Sharing - add a name in the top field which is visible for all methods of sharing]
but it also didn't have a DHCP Client ID - adding that second name did the trick
[go to Preferences - Network - AirPort - Advanced - TCP/IP - add name with only alpha-numerical characters in the DHCP ID field, press ok.]
Now I have to decide when to delete the old backup which it doesn't seem to reuse... looks from other posts like that could be tricky.
    Happy Backuping
    Nadine

  • Elements 12 upgrade after new Mac OS is released?

I want to purchase Elements 12 for Mac which currently works with OS 10.7-10.9.  Apple is coming out with a new operating system in the next few months.  If I buy Elements 12 now, will Elements 12 work with that new OS, or will Adobe release an free upgrade?  It wouldn't  make sense for me to buy it now if I won't be able to use it in a few months.  Thank you.

Adobe never releases that kind of update for PSE. If you're doubtful, the best thing would be to do the trial so you can see for yourself whether it works or not.
However, given that PSE 6 through 12 work in 10.9, I would say the odds are good.

  • Upgrade to new mac pro

I am studying with the hope to work in the business some day. I have been getting by with an imac with a few external hard drives and looking to upgrade. I have always believed it was the CPU in my skull limiting me but it I think it's time.
So what do I need... and what should I avoid?
this is what my research has led me to

    6x1GB ram
    single internal hard to start

    # ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB [Add $200.00]
also 2 24" displays or 1 bigger one?
    Dell vs mac displays?
    any thoughts on refabs?
    THANK YOU

    Hi Shwamy,
I have used the Apple displays because they appear to me to be as good as anything out there, and it was an easy choice as I felt that Apple would have included whatever driver/settings were necessary to make it a brainless installation with 100% operability and compatibility. I didn't worry to much about the expense as I thought that if I was going to be spending 8-12 hours a day sitting in front of glowing screens, I might as well get the ones I am sure I was going to be happy with.
I'm sure the Dells are quite good, I too have heard them highly spoken of, but I don't have any personal experience within the last couple of years of any other displays than the Apple Cinema Displays. I am sure others on this forum have used both and could jump in and give you advice, as to relative value, quality, etc.
Now, about color correction . . . I have two answers for you-
    Answer #1:
I personally don't do color correction (beyond really basic, rough, check-if-I-can-see-something-in-the-shadows type color correction). This is because good color correction is an art unto itself and I don't have the skills (or patience) necessary to do it right. I also value what another set of eyes can bring to the look and quality of the image. So I do all my editing, then take the finished and approved cut, with the original source files, on hard disk to a Post Production house that does color correction (and effects work) They go through the edit scene by scene and do the color correction - and also do any complicated effects (anything beyond a simple title or dissolve) on their Discrete Smoke Compositing system. This is not to say that you can't do the color correction yourself, and do it really well - I'm just relating how I work. But . . . if you are going to be doing any kind of serious color correction, *you must get a genuine broadcast monitor,* properly calibrated, to work on. I don't believe it is possible (well, certainly not easy) to make good color correction decisions while working on a computer monitor. The visual dynamics of computer monitors are just too different from television monitors. I personally like the small Panasonic BT-LH1710W, but this is a very subjective call and each colorist will have their favorite. The Post house I use a mix of Sony and Panasonic broadcast monitors. Keep in mind the a real broadcast monitor can cost as much as your entire edit system, and needs fairly rigorous technical attention and support to stay aligned.
    Answer #2:
Having said that, when I have to do the color correction myself - when I am working on what I would call second tier projects -non broadcast, video for the web, rough presentations, one-off DVDs, my nephews tennis video, pro-bono or projects with no or little budget, etc. - I have an 8" Sony HD Monitor LMD 9050 that I keep just to the right of my 30" Cinema display, and make my color judgements based on what I see there. The Sony gets its source video from an AJA IoHD which connected via firewire to the MacPro.
Basically I feel that color correction is so important to the look, feel, and final audience acceptance that I try to use a pro if the budget can stand it. I advocate strongly for this when we start doing the estimates for a project, and am willing to economize on some other area of the production in order to get my cut done by a colorist I know and trust. I also do the same thing with audio - I output an OMF file of my cut audio and take it to a mixer who uses Pro Tool to fix and mix the sound.
Sorry I couldn't give a more definitive answer to your questions, but you sound like you are on the right track! Maybe some else can jump in with their two cents? Maybe some else has better/cheaper workflow suggestions for color correction?
    Good luck!
