Shockwave flash constant crashing

Since updating from firefox 26, I have experienced constant shockwave flash hangs in both Firefox and Chrome. I have done numerous rollbacks, uninstalls, clean reinstalls, and driver updates. Anything that fixes the issue only fixes it for a few hours then it goes back to crashing.
My system is a Lenovo w520 with intel Core i7 2760 running Windows 7 Pro x64 SP1. The graphics setup uses NVIDIA optimus to split between the Intel HD graphics and the NVIDIA Quadro 1000M. Both have the most recent drivers, updating them did not fix the issue.
I have tried disabling hardware acceleration, but no dice. It is extremely difficult to get to flash player settings because browser hangs as soon as anything with flash tries to load. Clicking stop plugin does not fix the hang, so I generally have to kill the browser from the task manager. It has become totally unusable.
Virus infection was the first obvious thought, but multiple full scans by MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes with windows in safe mode and in full mode find no viruses. I have disabled all addons and extensions besides flash, and the problem persists. I finally just uninstalled flash and tried to run everything in HTML5, but now videos only play sporadically. After a Windows restart, a video or two will play, then once firefox is closed, they no longer play.
I forgot to add that flash also hung in Spotify (the program, not the web interface) when it tried to show an ad.
I have also tried running flash in protected mode and out of protected mode, no change in the constant hangs.
Here are some of the crash reports from my system:

I will hold off for a day to see if it keeps working before marking your post as a solution, but right about the time you replied, I had just opened Reaper recording software and realized that something was seriously messed up with my sound drivers, as Reaper hung too, totally independent of flash. I didn't put the two together until you said it was an audio server connection and I realized I had installed a global equalizer a few days before this problem started, so I got rid of that. I reinstalled flash after fixing the sound driver issue, and all is well at the moment, but I've had many false positives. I'll report back in tomorrow and let you know if it worked.

for the past few weeks, I get this error Shockwave Flash has crashed reload while attemping to view the online shows on the comcast website.  So I cant watch the videos at all, I can watch other videos on youtube and on the webpages.

I had to disable the protected mode in Adobe Flash Player, which is set by default.  Here is what I did to solve it. 1. Update your Adobe Flash Player to the current version. You have to do this on a regular basis because Adobe releases new versions all the time, mostly due to security flaws that they find. Make sure that you uncheck the box that says "Optional Offers," otherwise you'll get something extra in the download that you really don't need. 2. Close your web browser. 3. Lauch Windows Explorer, not Windows Interent Explorer. The quickest way to do so is a) Click Startb) In the seach box, type the following "explorer.exe"c) Under "Programs," you will see "Windows Explorer."d) Right-Click on "Windows Explorer" and select "Run As Administrator." 4. Once you have "Windows Explorer" open, browse to the following location: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash 5. In this folder, you will see a file called "mms.cfg" 6. Right-click on "mms.cfg" and then select "properties." 7. In the "properties" tab, select the "security" tab. 8. In the "security" tab, you will see group or users. Select "users" and then click the "edit" button to change the file premissions for file "mms.cfg." Be sure to check all of the allow boxes, otherwise you won't be able to change the protection mode settings in the next step. Click OK to close the properties box. 9. Right-click on "mms.cfg" and then select "Open." Windows will tell you that it cannot open the file and will then give you two options. Select the option that says "Select a program from the list of installed programs." 10. In the programs list, select "Notepad" to open the file in Notepad. 10. In Notepad, add the following line:        ProtectedMode=0 11. Then select "file," and then "save" to save to modified "mms.cfg" file.       12. Relaunch your web browser and try to viewing the video again. If you are still having problems viewing videos, you may also need to disable hardware accelleration in Adobe Flash Player. You can do this by right-clicking on any video and then uncheck the box that says "enable hardware accelleration." The reason you may have to do this is because some graphics cards have accellartion already built into them. Source:  https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/993019

  • Why Does Shockwave Flash Keeps Crashing In Firefox?

I've been using adobe shockwave flash player with no problem for the last six years. Recently I brought a new computer, windows vista and downloaded the adobe reader and shockwave player.
Everytime I go to watch a video on the internet flash player would crash and a message would pop up saying, "Adobe Flash Player 11.5r502 Has Stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I'm using the latest release shockwave 11.5.502.149 and my computer doesn't have any malware or viruses on it.
I would appreciate it greatly if someone could help me with this problem as it means I can't watch any videos at all and because the flash player shuts down everytime I go on adobe.com or youtube, I'm force to disable the program just to stop the constant error messages from popping up.
Really would appreciate any help or advice on how to fix this problem.
I using firefox 19 if that helps.
Does anyone know what data execution prevention is? It keeps popping up after I close adobe.

  • Shockwave/Flash Player crashes with every browser...Ugh.

I can't find a solution in this forum although a lot of people seem to be asking this question. Flash crashes constantly and it doesn't matter if I use Chrome, Firefox or IE. It's quite unbearable. I don't have multiple Flash players and if an add-on is causing this, I can't draw a link between it crashing and me disabling them. I've scanned for malware and gotten rid of anything found. No viruses that my virus protection reports. The problem just gets worse. It used to be occasionally, then multiple times a day, now its pretty much anytime I want to use Flash...which seems to be constantly. It freezes my computer then an error message comes up and says Shockwave player has crashed. I have updated shockwave and flash, so I have the most recent versions....any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

If your machine had a recent malware infection, you might want to consider backing up your critical files and starting fresh.  It takes time for antivirus and anti-malware packages to discover and push signatures for new viruses, and it's standard practice to deploy new malware to ensure that an attacker maintains their foothold on a compromised machine.
If it was my personal machine, I would back up any critical data files, wipe the machine and re-install everything from pristine sources.  Not exactly convenient, but you can be reasonably sure that the system is running the software you expect (discounting the possibility of malware that compromises the system BIOS).
That said, there's not a lot of actionable information here.  I'd recommend uninstalling Flash Player and re-installing fresh.  You actually have three different Flash Players -- there's an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, the NPAPI plug-in for Firefox and the PPAPI Flash Player for Chrome.  The PPAPI Flash Player for Chrome is totally encapsulated -- it doesn't even share settings.
SO... malware aside, the next most likely culprit is graphics drivers.  Each of the independent Flash Player installations attempts to use a hardware accelerated feature (like video playback), but the driver crashes.  Typically updating the graphics drivers would resolve this, or you can experiment with disabling hardware acceleration.  How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration? Windows: how do I update the device driver for my video/display adapter?

  • Shockwave flash is crashing as soon as I start playing anything online. And if the video somehow plays, it crashes as soon as I try to watch fullscreen. Help

I am using Firefox 34 and shockwave player 16. Both are the most recent updates available. But shockwave player crashes as soon as I try to watch any video online. I hAve tried all the suggestions in Adobe and mozilla forums but nothing helps. Recently, I cannot even watch the video fullscreen. A window pops up saying security error #2152: media cannot be played fullscreen. Earlier this was occasional but now it is regular and every time I try the same happens. I have tried creating profile and restarting firefox. The hardware acceleration mode is unchecked and firefox is running in safe mode. Real player is also disabled. Please help.

Note that Shockwave Flash player and Shockwave (director) player are not the same thing. In this case you are referring to the Flash Player.

  • How can I stop Shockwave Flash from crashing?

For the last few days I have been experiencing a problem viewing videos on web pages. The error message "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash" appears across the top of the page and all the videos are black with a white logo in the middle. This is an intermittent problem throughout the day - so sometimes I can watch a video and other times not. Needless to say this is very frustrating.
I have the latest XP version and also the latest version of Google Chrome. Today I unistalled all Adobe programs (problem still continued) and then reinstalled them - so they are all the latest versions.
I have browsed through all the help pages and tried some of the suggestions - but the problem still persists.
To be honest, I had never even heard of ShockWave Flash until Friday last week when this first started happening!!
Does anyone have an answer for me..... please?

    Hello all,
I understand the frustration and we hear you loud and clear.  We are actively working on this problem with Google and hope to have this resolved soon.  For those that are crashing, could you navigate to the following, windows only, page in Chrome:  about:conflicts
Once there, look to see if you have an software entry with the name "Rooks/Dolomite"  If so, you might require an update to Trusteer's Rapport.  Here's more info from Trusteer:
    Dear Rapport users,
Thank you all for your feedback about our Beta version, regarding the Google Chrome Plug-in crashes.
It indeed seems we have successfully fixed the issue and so we have now finished uploading a stable version of the software that contains the fix you have been using.
This version is now available for download in the following link:
    http://download.trusteer.com/Gcur4Wtnu/RapportSetup.exe
You do not need to uninstall the current version, you can simply install this version over the existing one.
Please make sure to restart your computer after the installation process is completed.
    Sincerely,
    Nitsan Bleiberg
    Head of Technical Support
    Trusteer
Additional details can be found on the following Google Chrome thread (see page 10):  http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=0d782f19a7a1a9ec&hl=en
Another thing to note, after reading through that thread it appears that the latest Chrome beta might also be helping some users out.  It's something to consider trying to if you're finding Chrome release is to unstable to use properly.
    Thanks,
    Chris
