Shockwave Flash & Firefox 34.0

I just updated to Firefox 34.0, yesterday, and since then my Shockwave Flash add-on has crashed multiple times. The add-on is up to date, so there is no reason it should be failing so often. Anyone else having this problem?

I'm also having a problem with searching through Yahoo! Images that sometimes the outline inset/insert for the photo loads, but not the photo, itself. I'm not sure what the heck is wrong with Firefox's rendering of graphics. Just now, I had to end a session when my tabs I opened wouldn't close out.
Did my information for my system not post in the origainal post? I thought someone would have been able to tell me by now if I'm having errors with my graphic card or something it's compatible. Again, no other browser seems to be giving me this problem.

  • Shockwave Flash, Firefox RC1, MSN Video

    Since installing Firefox 3 RC1, 3 b5, and 3 b4, MSN Video
crashes Firefox. I waited until Firefox was out of Beta but
unfortunately it still occurs with RC 1. I also cannot get MSNBC
videos to play but they do install and don't crash Firefox. I get
no error report in Firefox when the crash occurs. Other videos play
without problems. (You Tube, Google, National Geographic, AOL,
    etc.)
I uninstalled (Using Adobe uninstaller) and reinstalled
Shockwave Flash 9.0r124 just in case and that didn't solve the
    problem.
I am running a similar forum question on MozillaZine but the
only reply I received was from one of the moderators claiming it
    sounded like a Flash Problem.
    System - Dell Dimension 3000 XP SP3, 512 Ram, 160 GB HD,
Kaspersky Internet Security, Firefox is Default Browser
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Yea, I have Firefox set to do that every time it closes, but
I also did it manually just to make sure. Not quite sure where to

  • How do I fix the "shockwave flash" error, causing firefox to lock up, slow, or crash?

continous errors about "shockwave flash", "script has stopped working" etc, causing numerous slowdowns, lock-ups, and crashes. have tried several fixes, but none have worked.....please advise

Is it a permissions problem? Here's another way.
    (1) In a My Computer or Windows Explorer window, open this folder:
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
If that folder does not exist, then you are using 32-bit Windows, and you can open the following folder instead:
    C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
''(Note: This folder exists on both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, but on 64-bit Windows Firefox uses the Flash player in the SysWOW64 folder instead.)''
    (2) Check for a file named mms.cfg:
    (A) ''If mms.cfg exists,'' drag it to your '''Documents folder''' where you can edit it without being bothered about administrator privileges
    (B) ''If mms.cfg does not exist,'' open your '''Documents folder''', right-click > New > Text File and name the new file mms.cfg
    (3) Open mms.cfg from Documents into a text editor such as Notepad. Add this on its own line (I put it last):
    ProtectedMode=0
Save the file and close Notepad.
    (4) Hold down the Ctrl key and drag the mms.cfg file back to the Flash folder to make a copy there, keeping the original in Documents
This change should take effect the next time you restart Firefox.
Hopefully that works around the permission issue.

  • Firefox Plugins lists Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 but Adobe lists this as Adobe Flash Player, and Version 12.0.9.149 as Adobe Shockwave Player, so wtf is going on

Flash causes us all immense confusion, and Firefox is adding to the problem.
My Firefox Add-ons page lists (under Plugins -- isn't there a difference?) that I have:
Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 which is set to "Always Activate".
    Adobe websites list:
    Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.9.149
-- so what on earth is the Firefox-listed "Shockwave Flash"?
This simply adds to the utter confusion already surrounding Flash Player -- which I cannot find anywhere amongst my Programs -- but which I can find under "Uninstall or change a Program" where it is listed as "Adobe Flash Player 12 Plugin".
There is also the thorny issue of FlashPlayer vs. FlashPlayerDownloader......
I need a flash of inspiration to get me out of shock -- I'm not waving, I'm drowning!

In the internals of the plugin it is still referenced as Shockwave Flash. That hasn't changed as it would break websites that check for a specific plugin name. You can see that on the about:plugins page and in the properties of the Flash plugins file.
You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and paste this JavaScript code in the command line to see how the Adobe Flash Player plugin identifies itself:
    <pre><nowiki>console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].name);
    console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].description);
    </nowiki></pre>
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
On disk you will also see Macromedia for folder names used by the plugin.
    *32 bit Windows: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *64 bit Windows: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
    * C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

  • How do I set my default Shockwave Flash object viewer to Firefox 4 RC?

In the previous version of Firefox, I set it as my default Shockwave Flash viewer (these were offline objects) by selection the application in my program files.
When I upgraded to FF 4 RC, I was no longer able to view these files, nor was I able to find the application to default to (it was no longer in program files).
I tried setting the default viewer to the FF application located in Local Roaming but it won't appear in either the 'recommended' or 'other' when selected.
I can however still view these SWFs by clicking and dragging them onto the FF window. This isn't a major issue but I'd like to know if and how this can be fixed.
    Thanks

    # Open Windows Explorer.
    # Right-click a Shockwave Flash file (.SWF) and select '''Open with''' then '''Choose default program...'''
    # Click the '''Browse''' button in the lower right corner of the window and choose the Firefox executable. If you've installed Firefox in the default location, its path is ''C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe''

  • In Firefox 4, how do I change the order of plugins on the Add-ons Plugins manager page (I turn Shockwave Flash on only to see videos - having it off prevents screen freezing - and so I want it stay at the top of the list)?

In Firefox 4, how do I change the order of plugins on the Add-ons Plugins manager page? I turn Shockwave Flash on only when I want to watch a video and then turn it off to prevent screen freezing, and so I want it to PUT it and KEEP it at the top of the list.

Hit Ctrl+0 (That's a zero, by the way). I'm not sure if it will work, but hey, that's the first thing I would try.

  • I can't seem to properly open saved Flash (.swf) files with Shockwave in Firefox.

I have saved .swf flash files on my computer. I can view flash files when part of an internet page, but when I try to open the saved ones on Firefox, it asks me if I want to download them. I have tried to change the settings in the 'options' and 'applications' thing in the 'Tools' part of the menu bar, but while the SWF file(application/x-shockwave-flash) content type is automatically set to use Shockwave in Firefox, I can't find a way to do the same with the SWF file (application/download) content type, which seems to include saved swf files.

Just out of curiosity, try playing the song in a different program . . . maybe Windows Media Player to see if it works. I wonder if it's corrupted....

  • Why Does Shockwave Flash Keeps Crashing In Firefox?

I've been using adobe shockwave flash player with no problem for the last six years. Recently I brought a new computer, windows vista and downloaded the adobe reader and shockwave player.
Everytime I go to watch a video on the internet flash player would crash and a message would pop up saying, "Adobe Flash Player 11.5r502 Has Stopped Working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I'm using the latest release shockwave 11.5.502.149 and my computer doesn't have any malware or viruses on it.
I would appreciate it greatly if someone could help me with this problem as it means I can't watch any videos at all and because the flash player shuts down everytime I go on adobe.com or youtube, I'm force to disable the program just to stop the constant error messages from popping up.
Really would appreciate any help or advice on how to fix this problem.
I using firefox 19 if that helps.
Does anyone know what data execution prevention is? It keeps popping up after I close adobe.

  • The Firefox plugin page said I needed to install a new plugin for Shockwave Flash, but after doing the installation I checked back to see if the installation took place and the "action" column still says "update now" and potentially vulnerable."

After downloading the new version of Shockwave
flash the message in the box said the download was completed; however, the information on the Firefox plugin page keeps saying "potentially vulnerable" and "update now" as though no download took place. I repeated the download 2 more times and got the same results.

Your plugins list shows outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.

  • Sites using flash/shockwave cause Firefox to hang.

If the shockwave flash plugin is enabled on version >22, visiting a site that contains flash content will cause Firefox to hang/react extremely slowly. I've tried disabling all add-ons with no effect.
I'm using shockwave flash 11.2.r202.310 but it doesn't seem to matter when version of flash I use.

    Thanks for the replies guys.
ComputerWhiz: No firewall or AV installed on my laptop.
cor-el: Nothing works. It is the shockwave flash plugin + >=v23 that is the problem. I've tried safemode, I've completely deleted everything eg moving the .mozilla directory and started a virgin firefox with the same results.

  • Why does Firefox list of plugins show "Shockwave Flash" when what is installed is really Adobe Flash Player; they are different .

Adobe; various websites; and now seemingly Firefox seem to continually confuse and obscure things regarding the two different Adobe Players (Adobe Flash Player AFP and Adobe Shockwave Player ASP). According to this security alert web article ASP is far less secure than AFP which itself isn't great. The article http://krebsonsecurity.com/2014/05/why-you-should-ditch-adobe-shockwave/ indicates:
Mozilla Firefox users should note that the presence of the “Shockwave Flash” plugin listed in the Firefox Add-ons section denotes an installation of Adobe Flash Player plugin — not Adobe Shockwave Player.
    ==========
My Firefox is working, but this confusion of calling things by their proper (or at least a unique name) seems crazy to me. If this is accurate can someone get Firefox to name things correctly, AND if article is accurate let this be a warning to others that they NOT use ASP, but as needed rely on AFP. There are Adobe test pages for each so you want to make sure that AFP succeeds and the other ASP fails to play.

hello, "Adobe Flash Player" and "Shockwave Flash" are the same thing - the latter is the technical term of the plugin that adobe kept for compatibility reasons after it acquired the technology from another company (macromedia)...

  • I have both versions 10 and 12 of shockwave Flash on Firefox OS 26.  I wish to delete or remove V10

I have both versions 10 and 12 of shockwave Flash on Firefox OS 26.  I wish to delete or remove V10 but can't from any process I know including Windows\system32\macromed\flash  path.  This deletes both of them .
    What next?

    Flash Player Uninstaller
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
I recommend keeping BOTH ActiveX and the regular Player Plugin installed, even if you don't use IE.

  • Once I put the Firefox Icon in Apps, it shows up as a white circle/slash (as in "no" or "stop") NOT the standard Firefox Icon. I checked plug-ins."Shockwave Flash" shows up Vulnerable. When I update, I get download warnings. (more below)

Downloaded Firefox and put it into my Apps folder as instructed. Its Icon in my Apps folder is not the Fox/Globe but a white icon of papers with a white circle&diagonal slash (like a white "stop" or do-not-enter sign). When I pulled that to my dock, it transferred there as the Fox/Globe; but I'm concerned about opening Firefox because that Icon in my Apps isn't right. I assumed the circle/slash icon telling me something's wrong with the App. So I checked the PlugIns.
The PlugIn tells me "Shockwave Flash" is "Vulnerable, Update Now." But there are warnings about that download. When I check that, showing I'm a Mac, it gives me warnings for Windows!- but no warnings for Macs. What's going on?!
Why am I not getting the standard Firefox Icon in my Apps folder?
I don't want to corrupt my HD by opening Firefox if that Icon is telling me somethings wrong... (which seems the point of its circle/slash).
    This is all so unclear!

  • Shockwave Flash above version 11.2.202.235 not compatible with Firefox 14.0.1

I am using Firefox 14.0.1 with Shockwave Flash. If I use any version of Shockwave Flash later than 11.2.202.235 I can not watch videos such as Youtube. All I get is a white screen. If I roll back to SF Ver .235 the videos play fine. I do not have this problem with Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.
Are the 11.3 r300 versions of Shockwave Flash not compatible with Firefox?

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 14 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.
