I am having a hard time installing flash player onto my new computer. When I tried to install i was coming up with a drop box that said safari cannot find internet plug in MIME type plug in application/ x-shockwave flash. I went to the apple support and did find a plug in for flash but that was only for windows. I checked safari and the plug ins are activated. How do i install the plug in and then the flash program?

It is just possible that you may have come across a Trojan.
    From MacWorld Aug. 8, 2008:
Fake CNN news malware spreading fast
Over a thousand hacked sites are serving up fake Flash Player software to users duped into clicking on links in mail that's part of a massive spam attack masquerading as CNN.com news notifications.
The bogus messages, which claim to be from the CNN.com news website, include links to what are supposedly the day's Top Ten news stories and Top Ten news video clips from the cable network. Clicking on any of those links, however, brings up a dialogue that says an incorrect version of Flash Player has been detected, and tells users they needed to update to a newer edition.
One distinguishing feature of the attack, Masiello added, is the endless loop it uses to frustrate victims. If user clicks "Cancel" in the dialogue that prompts for an update, another pop-up appears, said Masiello, that tells the victim that they have to download it to view the video. Clicking "Cancel" there returns the user to the first dialogue.
"It puts you in this perpetual loop, so your only options are to kill your browser session or be brow-beaten into installing it,"
Adobe is aware of the malware posing as its Flash Player, and on Monday warned users to ignore any updates that didn't originate on its own servers. "Do not download Flash Player from a site other than adobe.com," said David Lenoe, Adobe's product security program manager, in an entry on Adobe Product Security Incident Response Team's PSIRT blog. "This goes for any piece of software (Reader, Windows Media Player, QuickTime, etc.). If you get a notice to update, it's not a bad idea to go directly to the site of the software vendor and download the update directly from the source. If the download is from an unfamiliar URL or an IP address, you should be suspicious."
People who okayed the download of the bogus flash.exe file, said Danchev, instead received a Trojan horse -- identified by multiple names, including Cbeplay.a -- that in turn "phones home" to a malicious server to grab and install additional malware.

If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

My macbook pro says Shockwave Flash plug-in has crashed pretty much every day.  I have to shut the computer down and restart to fix it.  Is there any way I can keep this from happening?

Download the latest version from here ONLY:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
also, make certain your Mac OS X software is completely up-to-date. There is a Trojan Horse that pretended to be a Flash update, and installed Flash with malware included. The latest security updates removes the malware and all older versions.

  • Firefox crashes on some web sites because of Shockwave Flash plug-in

I have the latest Firefox running on updated Windows Vista SP2. Each time I go to my Google+ site, FF opens it and then crashes. I have located the problem for this crash to the Adobe Flash plug-in. When I disable the Shockwave Flash plug-in, crashes would stop. The Shockwave plug-in is updated to the latest version, and I even re-installed it, which didn't help. I have similar crashes on some other sites during searches. It becomes rather frequent and irritating. Please suggest some options how to deal with that.

Thanks for reply. I do have the updated version of Trusteer Rapport. It is really interesting - I disable Shockwave Flash, and the crashes would stop. Then I would enable the Shockwave and stop the Rapport, the crashes would also stop. However, when they both are active - Firefox crashes all the time on Google+ web site. I do not have the same problem with Google Chrome and IE-9, only Firefox. I will try to ask Trusteer forums, but doubt that they would be able to offer something. It looks like Firefox specifically does not like something.

  • According to Firefox 6 my Shockwave Flash plug in needs updating but it won't let me load the adobe site properly

Addon Manager tells me that the Shockwave Flash plug in needs to be updated but the Adobe web page does not load and just hangs.
It also tells me that the Quicktime plug in is out of date but altho' it will connect to the Quicktime web page it does not complete the loading process.
I have also had problems accessing my Youtube channel adn have had to use a fix I found somewhere in support.mozilla that suggested using https instead of http. This works but why on earth have I had to do this? What has gone wrong with FF6?

Here I am replying to my own question. For the 8 people who apparently also have these problems I have solved the Adobe Flashplayer one. Or at least I am assuming that there was a causal connection between what I did and the result but, then again, who knows?
If you have IE on your system, make sure that the Flash Active X extension is installed and up to date. Then go through the rigmarole with Firefox and updating the Shockwave Flash. It should work.
    Still no idea about Quicktime.

  • Shockwave Flash plug-in missing

I'm having a problem with both Safari & Firefox that says I'm missing my shockwave flash plug-in. I have reinstalled the plug-ins from Adobe, but still...no luck. Any suggestions?

I only wish I was destined for an upgrade. Until Adobe can get their software up-to-par with the new Intel processor (which I hear is coming soon), I'd prefer to function faster on my G4 than to use a 3rd party software to resolve uncompatible software issues. Anyway...that's not the problem I'm dealing with right now .
I have uninstalled, repaired permissions, installed, restarted, etc., etc. and I still am having plug-in issues. I've even gone to downloading Camino and Opera browsers to see if it was a browser issue, but each time it tells me the plug-in is missing, so it is definitely a plug-in issue. You've been very helpful with possible solutions. Anything else up your sleeve?

  • Australian News Video Website Freezes Safari, Camino and Firefox

    http://video.news.com.au/ freezes all 3 browsers -
The main news website www.news.com.au renders and when you click on the video link it freezes Safari, Camino and Firefox -
You can't scroll or do anything but Force Quit -

The Engine that powers the video does set cookies if it set to "always" the site crashed my Safari once more.

  • Shockwave Flash Object add on causes websites to freeze, asks to recover webpage

    Hi there
I am experiencing issues with browsing websites with Shockwave Flash Object add-on for IE11 enabled.
I have a Remote Desktop server (2008R2 sp1) with 50 users. When enabled, browsing to websites becomes almost impossible - the sites i browse lock up and a message appears saying the webpage needs to be recovered.
I have found a work around - enabling ActiveX Filtering, however, it is annoying having to add pages to the exceptions list for ActiveX filtering each time I hit a page that requires activex controls.
I have attempted to uninstall/reinstall Flash, upgrading to latest version, and even downgrading to previous versions, all without success.
I have tried resetting IE settings, and gone to the extent of creating additional users to test, however, no matter what I have tried the issue is still present.
Are there any other options I can try to help resolve this issue?
    Warm regards,

Is nobody able to assist me at all?

  • Shockwave flash plug in crashes in every browser on my mac

I have been posting about this problem on the Apple forums and think that the problem is the flash player.
After a recent Apple security update, I am unable to play the game "Serpentine" on games.cobradragon.com.  The game is a free boggle like game, a very simple platform that isn't heavy on graphics or anything.  But for some reason, I cannot play the game on any of my browsers.  They are all up to date and the Adobe Flash player is the most recent version : 11.2.202.235
    My OX is OSX 10.6.8
I know this is related to the Apple security update from around May 14 because I haven't yet updated my MacBook with that Apple update and am not having any problems playing the game on my Macbook's browsers.
I have gone through all of the steps on the Adobe website that it suggested to get Flash to work properly but I still get the error message:  "The following plug in has crashed:  Shockwave Flash."
I haven't noticed any problems on high media content sites like Facebook or Youtube, it seems to only create a problem on the one game site that I use.  As I said, the game site is a simple boggle game, no big adverts, etc.  It is free to register and play there if anyone here wants to try it on their iMac with the latest Apple security update and see if their browser gets the same error.
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
I'm not sure that Adobe can do anything about this because it seems like it's an Apple security thing.  I'm not a complete technical moron but I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.
    Thanks.

I gave this a try on my 10.6.8 test system but was unable to reproduce the crash.  When the plugin crashes, do you receive a crash log report?  If so, could you paste the contents in a reply?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Shockwave Flash plug-in crashing

Lately, I've been getting the following message:  "The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash" in a yellow bar near the top of my browsers.  I get the same error in chrome, IE8, Firefox, etc.
When I go into control panel --> Flash Player --> Advanced Tab, the Updates portion, Plug-in Version:  Not Installed,  ActiveX Version:  11.1.102.55.  I suspect it has something to do with the plug-in version.  When I check for updates at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ it says, "You have version 11,1,102,55 installed".  I've tried uninstalling all "Adobe Flash Player..." programs and re-installing them to no avail.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Chrome with no luck.
    Here's my stats:
    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Intel(R) Core(TM2)2 Duo CPU
    e6750 @ 2.66Ghz
    3.48 GB of RAM
    IE version 8.0.6001.18702

Could you please go the uninstall/reinstall route again, but do it according to my instructions in this post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4081633#4081633

  • "Shockwave Flash plug-in has crashed" in Google Chrome Web Browser

    Hi,
I keep getting the following message when using Google Chrome web browser:
"The following plug-in has crashed: Shockwave Flash"
When I start using Google Chrome, Flash is working fine but normally after about 15 minutes usage I get the message.  If I close down Google Chrome and start again, Flash is working fine again for a little while and then crashes again.  I have to say it is now getting quite annoying as I do prefer to use Google Chrome to Internet Explorer for various reasons but it never crashes in Internet Explorer.  Is there anyone that can help me with this please?
I am using a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ38M laptop and my operating system is Vista.  I am also using the latest version of Google Chrome.
    Thanks
    Sue

    Thanks for your comments eidnolb.
I have gone to the test site for each of the browsers I use; Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.  For each one, they display the animation and the correct, most up-to-date version of Adobe Flash Player.
With regard to the adblock/adblock plus for Chrome, I do not know what you are referring to as I cannot find any reference to adblocks in the tools menu.  It's certainly not something that I have intentionally turned off or on so it will be at whatever default setting Chrome comes with.
The Shockwave Flash plugin is enabled for all 3 browsers which is, I guess, why I am seeing the animation.  Unfortunately, with Chrome the Shockwave Flash will eventually crash whilst I am using it.  Do you have any further thoughts on why it might be crashing please?
    Cheers
    Sue

  • Adobe Shockwave Flash plug-in keeps getting 'Disabled'

I have all the latest versions of Firefox and the plugins...yet I have experienced this problem with the last several versions of FF - every 2 days or so the Flash Plug-in gets set to 'Disabled'.
To correct this I simply go in and re-enable it and the browser works fine again for several days.
I have done all the updates, the Flash update is the latest etc.
    Any tips?

You appear to be running Firefox 16. The latest version is 18.0.1.

You appear to have Flash Player 11.4.402.### installed. The latest version is 11.5.502.146.

  • The Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 plugin check says "VULNERABLE" and suggest an update for Adobe flash player 10.1. It may disable my antivirus. Is this safe? Is it the right update?

    I have Firefox 3.6.10.
When I checked for plug-ins updates, it opened the "plug-in check" page and showed the Shockwave Flash 10.1 r82 as "vulnerable", explaining a potential security vulnerability and suggesting to update to latest version if existent, or if not, disable the plugin.
The Adobe security advisory suggests to upgrade to the newest version Adobe Flash Player 10.1.85.3.
When I click on it, it says Adobe Flash Player 10.1 only. It also says: "You may have to temporarily disable your antivirus software". Is this safe? Also: how do I know that the 10 . 1 version is the same as the 10.1.85.3 version?

The [http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ Adobe Flash Player] page refers to 10.1, but the full version details for the latest release is 10.1 r85 which is a security update. You can get it from the above link, or use the manual installers available from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller
You should not have to disable the Anti-virus software in order to install Flash, only do that if is is interfering with the installation.
