Why does Shockwave Flash shut down my Chromebook?

I play an internet game that uses Shockwave Flash.  I use an Acer C710 Chromebook I got in March 2013.  In the beginning, it was pretty good with few shockwave problems.  I would receive messages saying that shockwave was unresponsive and I could wait it out, which I would, and it would usually start responding again.  I learned how to clean the cache and delete the websites stored on the computer.  That helped.  Shockwave would sometimes crash and I would have to reload the page.  Around 7 December, a new update came out for the Chromebook.  Now, Shockwave does not even tell me that it has become unresponsive, it just shuts down the computer and restarts it. (If I play the same game on a PC, I use Firefox because it is faster and I don't have these problems.  If I use Chrome on the PC, Shockwave will become unresponsive but will not shut down my computer.)  Someone told me about extensions (User agent switchers) for Chrome so that I could run Firefox or another browser on my Chromebook.  If I choose to do that, I can sometimes play longer without problems--with those I sometimes get an "unresponsive" message or sometimes I get a shut down.  I talked to a Chrome Ninja this week and did a Recovery.  If I do not update my Chromebook, I'm back to getting the "unresponsive" messages instead of getting the shut down.  I believe something happened with the 7 December update.  I have asked the Ninja but have not heard back, which is why I asked the question here.  I appreciate any thoughts.

  • Flash shuts down after start up screen - please help

    I had a strange problem develop yesterday. Whenever I start
    Flash 8 the start up screen shows for a moment, then disappears and
    the program shuts down and never starts. I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot,
    HijackThis and even did a file search by date to see if anything
    appeared on my computer that would cause this but I found nothing.
    I have Flash MX installed as well and it was doing the same thing
    when I tried that. I repair/installed Flash 8 - didn't work, then
    uninstalled Flash 8 and installed again and it's still doing the
    same thing. I suppose I could uninstall MX too and try again but I
    suspect that's not the problem. Any thoughts?

    Your capacitors are leaking, this is a known issue with Rev A G5 iMacs, and they should be replaced, along with the logic board. Take it in and if t stays up long enough, try to clone it to an external drive to save your data. I use SuperDuper! to do this.

  • Flash Shuts Down IE7 - Any fix?

    I'm sorry if this is already the subject of a thread - I looked and couldn't find it.
    For the past month or two I suddenly and without warning of any kind get a message that IE7 has experienced a problem and must shut down.  A couple of seconds later all windows and tabs that are open close and a message appears to tell me that the culprit was an add on - Flash10.ocx (or words to that effect)  I'm running vista home premium on a new HP laptop with plenty of memory and speed.  Internet Explorer and all other microsoft and hp programs are set to update automatically so I am completely up to date.  I didn't have the problem before a couple of months ago but now it's irritating.
    I disabled the flash reader but I don't know if that's successful or not since some sites won't load unless I enable the reader.  That means I'll go a few days without a problem but then have to enable the reader again and then get the problem again a couple of days later.
    I realize the reader is free and I don't like to complain but - it seems Adobe may have taken over the world.  That means, whether I like it or not, I've GOT to use the reader in many cases.  Therefore, it seems Adobe should do something to fix the problem.  Unless, of course, I'm the only one having the problem.  I doubt that, though - I've got a pretty good computer and no other problems.
    Any idea a non-nerd might put to use?

    no it only does it when I have some content. it doesn't have
    to be much, a few picture files and text. I can't export to
    quicktime either but I can export to avi.

    I installed the Flash Player 10 and have Vista. Using IE, any game or video using Flash shuts down my Dell laptop. I have tried all the fixes in the tech forums I can find and nothing works.     I have not updated any drivers. I thought it had to be a Flash issue, but have been told that perhaps the games/videos are overheating something (can't remember what it was) LOL I think my best bet is going to be to take it to someone who knows what they are doing cause I'm not sure how to even find what graphic card is in this laptop...

    also, make certain your Mac OS X software is completely up-to-date. There is a Trojan Horse that pretended to be a Flash update, and installed Flash with malware included. The latest security updates removes the malware and all older versions.

  • Applications shutting down then menu bar starts flashing

    ive had the macbook for 5 days and 2 days ago, aim started shutting down out of nowhere and i just restarted the application, took a few times, but then it stopped. Yesterday,oh, and one note, i set my macbook to open aim, itunes, and stickies when i turn it on. Well when i turned it on yesterday, aim quit then the menu (the top bar) starts flashing and wont work at all. So i tried opening up another application like garageband, then it quits that and anything else but the window doesnt go away then the mouse pointer turns into that rainbow spinning thing and doesnt stop so then i just turn off the computer

    1. Boot from your system CD, run Disk First Aid and repair your permissions.
    2. Trash these preference files and reboot.
    User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.systemuiserver.plist & com.apple.ATS.plist & com.apple.BezelServices.plist

    i have been unable to use my iphone for going on a week. It started by shutting down when ever I'd try to use it. Now it has just a dead black screen. If i plug it in it doesn't charge And the flashing apple continues every 2seconds never charging or turning on. I'm frustrated because I can't even get in to troubleshoot. I bought an iphone cuz I thought it was the best phone at the time. My contract isn't up til Aug. and I'm stuck with a bill and no phone. I do not own a computer but I have an ipad4 which I love.     Make an appointment at the genius bar are your nearest Apple store. At this point there is nothing you can do without a computer, so if you don't have one and don't know anyone who has one that you can use the Apple store is a good fallback.

    That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the Operating System data on the hard drive is somehow corrupted.
    Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
    When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Just press the Return key on yourkeyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. When it comes up is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
    If it is then click on the Mac OS partition of your hard drive in the left handlist. Then select the First Aid Tab and run Repair Disk. The Repair Disk button won't be available until you've clicked on the Mac OS partition on your hard drive. If that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
    If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

    You need to resync you applications or redownload them for free via app store. They may be read by your phone, but they are really not there. Re downloading will fix this.

    If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.
