Shockwave issue

Have installed shockwave player, made shockwave default for swf files, but file not opening. It does not show in programs listing either. Enabled in IE & Chrome.

Why have you made the Shockwave Player default for opening SWF files? You shouldn't have to mess with the default at all, but now that yuou have you should make your browser the default - assuming you don't have a standalone Flash Player on your system.
FWIW Flash and Shockwave are not the same thing, despite the name clash around Shockwave Flash (== Flash, not Shockwave)

  • Flash/Shockwave issues. How to deal?

    Hello,
So I was using Opera web browser for a while now. As soon as the new version of flash player came out, it is not recognizing it. I have been prompted to download the latest version of Flash over and over. So, I uninstalled OPERA and installed Google Chrome & tested a few others . The issue was that this and all other related Google web browsers were having Shockwave/flash crashes. This happens every time a you tube video is played.....
Hope there is a solution to this. Thanks 2 anyone who would be able to assist!

Here's the FAQ with a link to our archived Flash Player versions
Where do I find previous versions of Flash Player?
I'd recommend following the "clean install" procedures listed out in this FAQ

  • Vista shockwave issue?

I've been unable to install and run shockwave on 2 vista
machines. Both display the same error as follows:
    “Unable to open file
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/dir.dcr
    because it is
already open with write permission by another user.”
The same type of error occurs for me at the following
    location:
    http://knowledge.elementk.com/ek_content/cp30/global/banner.dcr
All the tips I've found so far seem to imply a change to the
file settings on the server! This has only happened to me on Vista.
    Any clues?

As regards the error for url
    http://knowledge.elementk.com/ek_content/cp30/global/banner.dcr,
I have managed to resolve the issue by adding
https://knowledge.elementk.com to my list of trusted sites in
    internet explorer.
I had previously uninstalled flash and shockwave, and then
installed shockwave using the standalone installer, then installed
flash using adobe's online activex installation procedure.

  • D11 Cross-Platform Shockwave Issue

I just did a build of a Shockwave version of a freeware game
    that I created in Director.
I'm using the DCR and HTML page generated by Director 11, but
while it loads and works just fine on a Mac, it doesn't load on my
Windows computer (or on my Mac under Parallels or BootCamp). On
Windows, it just hangs there with an empty progress bar. Forever.
You can see it in action here:

Thing is, I've done a Shockwave build of another freeware
game of mine and it works fine on my Windows computer. You can see
    it here:

hmm, not the right place i guess - but as it seems that for

    20000 lines of lingo...
hmm, maybe a silly question, but i definitely have to look
for an alternative to director. and any information is very much

  • Flash / shockwave & facebook issue

    Hello all,
Im writing this part because I have a problem with either shockwave or flash & facebook games.
Using the facebook link ( http://apps.facebook.com/playcastleville/?fb_source=bookmark_apps&ref=bookmarks&count=30&f b_bmpos=2_30 ) in my account ofcourse. ( would suggest using your own because dont see facebook differing in customers delivered service aka the game ).
So in facebook i start the application shochwave / flash while playing castlevile on the facebook.com.
I can play random times and flash stops working providing a error " flash has stopped working ( ! ) .
Chrome forwards a popup with the note adobe shockwave plugin has stopped working.
This started 5-10 days ago ( give or take ) with no other software installed by user.
Automatic updates were on and installed, i backtracked system restore to a date before it stopped working. This didnt help.
I downloaded / installed newest versions of flash / shockwave. issue still occurs.
I placed the "use xx amount of HDD " to undefined aka use what you want more less. issue same
I turned back to internet explorer, setup'd and ready to use armed with the newest versions of flash / shockwave and internet explorer issue still occurs.
I turned to mozilla firefox the game doesnt load.
I saw a sligh increase in mem usage over the time, meaning it could run out of mem ( maybe ) so increased paging file just to be sure. to 2K above the advised lvl.
minimum system requirements quad core proc / 2010 mobo / nvidia 9800 or better 6k or ram. windows 7 64 bits running smooth and flashy.
Personally i like it stripped and bare / classic, but then again it isnt my computer so.... flashy.
hmm its a Asus n55s laptop i think ( writing this down from memory )
Avast anti virus <-- deactivated issue still occurs.
windows firewall <-- turned off issue still occurs.
computer usage : facebook <-- watching movies <-- basic image editing <-- surfing the web
no extra devices attached ( appart from a powerusing cooling fan pack ) and a wireless mouse from logitec
usage of flash / shockwave ( im not sure which does what ) youtube music / facebook games / onsite radio ( as far as i know ).
laptop bloatware ( i believe its called ) is on and active. but was before the 10 days as wel.
No auto update funktions on that. And if there was an update it would have been uninstalled with the system restore.
Every install is covered with the admin rights question ( as far as i know ).
is there some list of someway to find out for what combination of software its written?
for example, it works normally on xxx computer with shockwave version x and flash player version x with windows 7 64 bit. and chrome version x or IE version x or firefox version X with extension pack version x.... for the game castlevile ran of facebook?
or is there some way to find out what is wrong in the line of apps that are needed to run this game?
and / or what free media is needed etc etc.
( internet security is still set to the same low to normal as usual. and no other virus / firewall software is being used.
network was the same as it was.
does someone have idea's, about what is the cause / solution?
    please let me know.
Hope to hear from you soon,
    Robert.

Yeah, Firefox and Flash Player isn't a super stable combination on Windows 8.1 at the moment.  We're collaborating closely with Mozilla to improve that, but that effort is going to happen over several months.
In the meantime, you might want to take a look at the other options.  Microsoft invested a lot of time and effort into making the Flash experience on Win8.1 really good in IE, as did Google with Chrome.

  • Shockwave MSI GPO install creates Programs folder?

    Hi guys (and gals),
I've been working for the better part of a day on getting a GPO set up to update Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash, and Shockwave to the latest versions.  I've sorted the Adobe Reader 9.3.1 part, but I'm now having Shockwave issues.
Shockwave 11.5.606 installs properly, but in doing so, sets up a folder I've never seen when using the .EXE installer manually:
    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Adobe Systems, Inc"
Within the folder, is a sub-folder, "Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5" and within that is a shortcut, "Launch SWDNLD.exe".  I do NOT want this folder created during the install --does anyone know how to prevent it from happening?
Any help would be appreciated.  I'd really like to make my systems more secure, but it seems Adobe doesn't make it very easy for those of us who need to patch on a large scale.

    Hi,
I have posted an MST file which fixes this and other issues to the following thread here:

Please post any feedback to that thread!

  • I'm using FF 2.0.0 and Windows ME. Is there a more recent FF version compatible with my system?

    1: I can't update Firefox automatically
    2. Adobe shockwave errors show up frequently.
What is the latest version of Firefox that runs on Windows ME and can I download it? Will the shockwave issue go away?

No sorry the last version to work on the old Windows ME was the Firefox 2.0.0.'''20''' that you have.
As of Firefox 3.0.* and newer the earliest that Firefox ran on was Windows 2000.
The KernalEX may be able to work on your WinME in patching it so it can run some programs like it was Win200/WinXP though the newest you may be able to run will be the Firefox 3.6.* (3.6.20 is current).

  • Director courseware wont run on new win XP PC

    Help,
Our training school has a courseware package built in Director in 2005. Unfortunately the company that built it for us is no longer in business so we have no support from that end. The package runs on an intranet of Win XP PC with IE 6 browser. We have just purchased replacement PCs, still with XP as the OS, however the Director courseware will not run. The windows open, but no content is displayed. We assume this is a shockwave issue, but not being IT experts we are pretty much in the dark. Have tried the obvious browser settings and the shockwave online trouble shooters but to no avail.
Can any one suggest an approach to solve this problem?
    Mick

Afraid we only have the installed version of the training package. We intentionally specified Win XP for the new PCs, as the package already runs in that OS. Clearly things aren't that simple!!!!! Just want to be sure we eliminate all possible quick fixes before we pay for some expert help. Many thanks for your advice.

  • Issues with Shockwave 11.5.2.602 / 11.5.6.606 MSI installer

<UPDATE 8/3/09> Nearly all of the issues mentioned below are still present in the MSI installer for 11.5.6.606 - the only one that Adobe have fixed is the one where the MozillaPlugins 'Version' value is left blank by the MSI by default - this is now created correctly, but all of the other issues remain.
Personally I have given up trying to use this MSI package to deploy Shockwave until Adobe get their act together - instead I am using a wrapper to wrap the Shockwave executable inside an MSI file and deploying it that way, although this is not ideal.
I have created an MST file which will fix the MSI installer for version 11.5.6.606, which I will post to another forum shortly, but I am not planning to keep it updated for future versions as I don't really have the time.
    Hi,
I've tried submitting the following via the Adobe Customer Support portal and via the Feature Request/Bug Report form, but the first told me that I needed to 'get in touch with Adobe Enterprise Solutions team for getting help' and that 'to get in touch with them you have to purchase a contract', and the second resulted in a bounced email address saying that '[email protected]' 'does not exist at the organization this message was sent to'.
In short, attempting to contact Adobe to report issues with their installers sucks, and I am posting this here in the vain hope that someone at Adobe might read this message and possibly forward it to the relevant people. Some of the issues have already been reported here on this forum, but some of them are new, and I guess others might be interested in them too.
    Hi,
I would like to report some issues with most recent version of the Shockwave installer, available in MSI format from the following location:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?k=4E6102EB-DA7C-2795-C744826EFDE2A098&l oc=en_us
This is the installer for version 11.5.2.602, with a digital signature dated 06 November 2009 10:52:21
When downloading this version of the installer in Windows Installer (MSI) format, the following issues manifest themselves, most of which are not a problem when using the Full EXE installer available from the same page.
First of all, when installing the MSI file using Group Policy Software Deployment, if you log on to the computer after the MSI file has been deployed and view a web page that contains Shockwave content, you receive the following errors in the Windows event log:
    Event Type: Warning

If you are logged on as an Administrator, then the computer will immediately attempt to 'repair' the Adobe Shockwave Player installation in order to create the missing folder 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\systemprofile\Application Data\Adobe\', which leads to a significant delay in the initialization of the Shockwave content on the web page. If you are logged on as a non-Administrator, the errors will still appear, but the 'repair' operation will fail due to insufficient permissions to create the above folder.
I have done some testing and it seems as if this problem can be easily resolved by removing the code from the installer which tells it to create an empty folder in the 'Application Data' folder called 'Adobe\Shockwave Player 11'. This code seems to be entirely unnecessary, as no files are created inside this folder as part of the installation, and I have removed it successfully from my own copy of the MSI without it causing any issues. I have found some other people who are also experiencing this problem in the following forum post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2379350 (post number 8)
and since this 'repair' operation causes all customised registry settings to be reset back to defaults as part of the repair, it would be very helpful if this 'feature' could be removed from future versions.
Secondly, there are a number of registry keys which are created incorrectly by the MSI installer when the above 'repair' operation takes place, which need to be corrected to prevent further issues from occurring:
Under '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{1F3CB77D-D339-49e0-B8E4-FECD6D6F8CB8}\LocalServer32]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\SHOCKW~1\SWHELP~1.EXE"
(Please note that there is a double quotation mark at the end of the value, but not at the beginning)
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\SwHelper_1152602.exe"
According to a forum post (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2379350, post 15), this causes DCOM errors when Shockwave is launched, if the MSI 'repair' has taken place as described above.
The above registry value should be set to the following in the installer's Registry table:
    "[INSTALLDIR]Shockwave 11\SwHelper_1152602.exe"
so that the MSI installer works the same as the executable one.
Under '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{6EF568F4-D437-4466-AA63-A3645136D93E}\1.0\0\win32]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    Adobe\SHOCKW~1\SWHELP~1.EXE
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\SwHelper_1152602.exe
Also, under '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{6EF568F4-D437-4466-AA63-A3645136D93E}\1.0\HELPDIR]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    Adobe\SHOCKW~1\
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11\
Once again, the above registry values should be set to the following in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue:
    [SystemFolder]Adobe\Shockwave 11\SwHelper_1152602.exe
    [SystemFolder]Adobe\Shockwave 11\
Under '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000}]', the 'default' value is NOT SET by the MSI by default:
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    Shockwave ActiveX Control
This value should be set in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue.
Under '[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\location\common]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    Macromed\common\
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\common\
Also, under '[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\location\coreplayer]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    Macromed\Shockwave 10\
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\
Also, under '[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\Shockwave 10\location\coreplayerxtras]', the 'default' value is set to the following by the MSI:
    Macromed\Shockwave 10\xtras\
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\xtras\
The above registry values should be set to the following in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue:
    [SystemFolder]Macromed\common\
    [SystemFolder]Macromed\Shockwave 10\
    [SystemFolder]Macromed\Shockwave 10\xtras\
The MSI installer does not create '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dcr]', '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dir]', or '[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dxr]'
Wherease the executable installer creates all three of these keys and populates them all with the following 'default' value:
    "Content Type"="application/x-director"
These keys and values should be set in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue.
The MSI installer creates a value under the following registry key:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OptionalComponets\SwDi r]
However this registry key is obviously misspelt (missing an 'n' in 'OptionalComponets') and should read as follows:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OptionalComponents\SwD ir]
This key name needs to be changed in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue (also pointed out in the following forum post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2379350 (post number 10)).
Under [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com/ShockwavePlayer], the 'Version' value is left blank by the MSI by default:
Whereas the executable installer creates the value as follows:
    1152602
This registry value should be set to the correct version in the installer's Registry table to fix the issue.
Finally, the MSI installer creates a number of registry values under the following path:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com/ShockwavePlayer\Mime Types]
These values are *in addition* to the values created under the following path:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MozillaPlugins\@adobe.com/ShockwavePlayer\MimeTypes]
(Note there is no space between 'Mime' and 'Types' in the second key path)
The executable installer *only* creates registry keys under the 'MimeTypes' key, and it seems as if this is the correct formatting for the key (also pointed out in the following forum post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2379350 (post number 11)).
The unnecessary 'Mime Types' registry keys and values should be removed from the installer's Registry table to avoid any potential issues.
I am sorry that this is such a long list, but it seems as if a number of things have been changed in the transition from 11.5.1.601 to 11.5.2.602, and it would be very helpful if these changes could be put back to how they were before, so that the MSI and the executable installers function in the same way as much as possible.
Message was edited by Borgquite - added 11.5.6.606 update

Have posted an updated version of the MST to my webspace here:
    http://homepage.ntlworld.com/minkus/shockwave/shockwave115606mst2.zip
This new version fixes the following issues (changes to this version in bold):
MsiInstaller repair & errors on first run as non-admin (removes 'AppData' directory entries)
DCOM errors once Shockwave is installed (adds double quotes to the beginnning of LocalServer32 value)
Incorrect TypeLib paths in the registry (fixed to use built-in [SystemFolder] property)
Default CLSID description value missing (set to 'Shockwave ActiveX Control', as per the executable installer)
Incorrect Shockwave 10 paths in the registry (fixed to use built-in [SystemFolder] property)
Misspelt 'OptionalComponets' registry key (renamed to 'OptionalComponents')
Missing .dcr, .dir, .dxr Content Type registry values (included in the executable installer)
Fixed incorrect AppID registry key (set to use installer's [VERSION] variable)
Removed 'Launch SWDNLD.exe' shortcut created in Programs subfolder (people don't want this - see here)
I have tested this on my network and it all seems to work fine. Unfortunately my original plan to use the executable installer didn't work out as it does not include the Shockwave 10 compatibility components described here and here, so it looks like I'll have to keep this MST file up to date with the latest versions until Adobe fix the problems themselves...
If you want to see the changes that I have made, load up Adobe's 11.5.6.606 MSI file in Orca, then use Transform / Apply Transform to apply the MST, and look for the entries in green.
Please post any feedback to this thread, and I will try to respond if I can help!

  • Issue with cursor(200) in an IE Shockwave movie?

Has anyone else encountered or fixed this issue before?
I have my cursor hidden with cursor(200) and am using a
custom piece of art to follow the mouseLoc in its place. This workd
fine in Firefox and the executable version of the movie, however in
IE the -1 cursor will blink in over the piece of art on mouseDown.
When the cursor's position is updated or on mouseUp the cursor
resets to 200 and all is good again.
    I've tested placing:
    on mouseEnter me
    sprite(me.spriteNum).cursor = 200
    end mouseEnter
in the behaviors of my sprites to no avail.
I've gone back to some older movies created at my company
using the same code I am using and now they have this issue too,
when they did not before. Is this a known issue with the Shockwave
player? or IE? (I happened in IE6 and IE7)

  • Unresolved/Unresolvable Shockwave Flash Compatibility Issues - "shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding..."

As an early adopter (and champion) of Firefox, it is with great sadness that after more than 10 years I find that I will need to un-install Firefox and move to another browser due to your ongoing compatibility issues with Shockwave Flash (a page freeze with an eventual pop-up message saying "shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding..." on any and every page that has flash content). It has made my browsing experience horrible for more than half a month, and I've invested more than a week trying to address it. I started with all of the tweaky recommendations from your support site, Adobe's support site and many 3rd party sites; then a Firefox reset, and then eventually moved on to complete clean re-installations of Firefox and Adobe. Nothing fixed the issue. And it is an issue that doesn't occur on other browsers like IE, Opera and Chrome. Frankly it just shouldn't be this hard, and I believe you should be addressing it head on. I see from many online forums and your support site that I am far from alone. Do a quick Google search of "Firefox, shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding" if you actually need to confirm this. I am using modern hardware (HP laptop with an i7 processor) and a major, supported OS (Windows7 64-bit). I hope for your sake you get it figured out. If you do, feel free to let me know... I might consider coming back, though frankly this may just be a sign that the Mozilla of old is no more. It makes me sad for both of us.

Strangely I tried all the suggested fixes for the problems of Script errors especially related to adobe. In addition when I clicked the firefox icon it took a long time to load. None of the suggested fixes in the forum has changed or fixed either of these 2 problems.
Yesterday I entered services.msc and changed all of my microsoft network services and services related to my adapor that said manual to automatic. I did this unrelated to firefox but because my network/wifi was connecting slowly when I booted up my computer. I then rebooted my computer.
To my surprise not only did my wifi connect faster but firefox now loads normally and all the script error messages related to adobe have disappeared. Firefox has worked perfectly now for 2 days.
For my individual situation my firefox problems were all related to network services being set to manual rather then automatic. How this effects firefox is unknown to me but must somehow be related to how firefox is accessing the network.

  • Why do I always get a shockwave flash issue?

I'm running windows 7 on a dell and whenever I go to a website such as YouTube or espn.com, I get a "Shockwave flash may be busy, or it may have stopped responding" message. This is actually happening on other browsers as well. I've reinstalled, uninstalled & tried An older versions. Nothing seems to work, any suggestions?

In the about:support, what version of flash is running?
You can manage your plugins on your android device as well please see: [[Why can't Firefox for mobile play Flash on my device?]]
However since you are talking about your desktop:
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

  • Firefox 22 keeps crashing after I updated it. Scripts keep freezing. I also updated shockwave, etc. (addons). Did not have this issue before updating.

After the latest FF update every page seems to freeze up and I get script error pop ups that cause the FF browser to hang forever. Only happened after updating FF and shockwave, I have had to disable shockwave flash which seems to fix the problem, but I can't watch videos. I had to add the NoScript addon just to see browser pages... not very good as it kills pretty much everything. Also I noticed that the newest version of java deployment kit has been rendered UNSAFE by FF. Why, and what to do about that issue also? Thanks.

The combination of a recent Windows update and the Flash player plugin's protected mode caused pages to hang for me with the eventual script error.
    * You can disable protected mode following the steps in this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
