Shockwave player end-of-life

Secunia PSI tells me that I have two instances of Shockwave Player 10x Version 10.4.1.26 that are end-of-life programs and pose a threat. Locations are:
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\SwInit.exe
and
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\SwOnce.dll
I have the newest version of Shockwave installed so I don't understand what is happening here.
On PSI forum something was said about Adobe inserting some elements of V10 into V11 for backward compatibility.
So, is this something that was automatically installed by Adobe and should I tell Secunia PSI to ignore these items, or do I need to uninstall and reinstall?
If I tell PSI to ignore, does this mean I'm putting my system at risk? Please help because I am lost.

One of those instances of Shockwave has disappeared from my Secunia psi scan, but one still remains and it is
C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Shockwave 10\SwOnce.dll
I assume that update mentioned must have gone through but why is there still this once instance?

  • Allowing Shockwave Player to run for non-admins

Hi all, I see the following problem on and off for years now, with Adobe Flash and in particular Adobe Shockwave Player.
I have a school that has a Windows 7 lab. Shockwave Player 11.6 is installed as part of the base image. It shows up in "Programs and Features"
After it was initially installed, I tested the plug-in by going to http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome and it worked fine.
The problem I'm having is with non-admin users. Our students aren't local admins. Say they go to a website that has Shockwave content, for example, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aso/tryit/dna/index.html
When I (with a non-admin student account) click on the link to play the Shockwave content, a pop-up window appears. Then IE 9 displays a message "This webpage wants to run the following add-on: "Adobe Shockwave Player 11.6" from Adobe Systems Incorporated. Allow/Allow for all websites?" I don't want to see this again, so I click Allow for All websites. Then I get another window: "Adobe Shockwave Player is now installing....Installing compatibility components." So far, so good. The problem is, once the installation progress bar gets to the end, Windows User Access control pops up prompting for an admin user account and password to complete the install. Since they don't have an admin account, the install can't complete.
How do I get Shockwave Player to "just work" for non admin users? I see for Flash there is this document at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/987370 about registry permissions, etc. Is there a similar solution for Shockwave Player?
    Please help, thanks,
    Sir_Timbit

If SW is trying to install compatibility components, be sure to run the full installer before creating your base image

  • Huge IE7-Flash/Shockwave Player Problem

i just installed IE7 (7.0.5730.11) and wanted to try it out
on some demanding pages, like those with flash animations,
shockwave games and integrated media players. everything worked
fine until i went to www.miniclip.com and started the robot rage
    game (
    http://www.miniclip.com/games/robot-rage/en/).
signing in was successful and also the choose robot page had no
problems, but after i chose a robot and got to the workshop every
single click caused an "iexplore.exe - Application Error" - The
instruction at [eg.] "0x77ec3593" referenced memory at
"0x00000010". The memory could not be "read". OK>terminate,
    CANCEL>debug!
i tried it several times, set all possible IE security and
advanced settings to lowest possible, everywhere "enable" where
possible, ran ccleaner (cleaned temp, cookies etc.), restarted my
notebook and the problem still occurs. sometimes it just hapens
when i get to the first page where the shockwave application starts
(there the "send error report" window comes up and the MS crash
analysis tells me that Macromedia has published a new version of
the flash player (i definitely have the most recent one), but
mostly i manage to sign in, choose a robot and then when i'm on the
workshop page every single click anywhere leads to the application
    error.
since the latest flash player/shockwave player issues are
from july 21, i supose the problem is indeed caused by the flash
player, not IE7, since it's not been updated after the end-user
version of IE7 had been released.
if anyhow possible, this issue should be reported to Adobe (i
am not a commercial Adobe customer, so i cannot do that) so they
can fix that and release a new version of flash/shockwave
    player

i apologize, i didn't see that i posted it in the wrong
forum; should be in the flash/shockwave player forum

  • Adobe shockwave player crashing or hanging continues

This is still prevalent and I have had to disable the plugin for shockwave player. Similar was happening with adobe flash player but since the Firefox update it isn't happening as much. Is there a solution to solve this or is it a Adobe issue that they need to fix.? When it hangs or crashes it sometimes takes out downloads. I rolled back to the older dowload box because if I closed the browser it took the downloads out. Downloads don't crash as much with the older download box but with Firefox 20 ( with the new download style) the downloads died quickly with an error message the "file could not be read"
Also, is it okay to enable my add ons now, they were accentuating the problem as well.

Hi ezio.lucenti, I'm sorry your post at the end of this long thread hasn't been answered. What operating system do you run?
This is some standard guidance that addresses the most common issues with Flash on Windows. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) Make sure all recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode (Windows Vista/7/8)
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
Please note that from time to time, there are problems with specific sites, e.g., YouTube, related to specific add-ons, e.g., AdBlock Plus. So if you can narrow down the problem, then hopefully someone can provide a more specific solution.

  • Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1 and forced reboot

Hello I work for a company with 8k computers and we use IEM (IBM Endpoint Manager) distribution tool. We started Adobe product patching in January and we encountered unexpected forced reboot on some Windows 8 computers. IEM creates installation scripts automatically and I have noticed that there are two installation files: sw_lic_full_installer.exe  and sw_lic_slim_installer.exe. I have performed some test with both packages and on one PC where I tried sw_lic_slim_installer.exe the FORCED REBOOT occurred. I have checked event viewer logs and found the following lines:
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: swMSM. Product Version 12.0.0.1. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Adobe Systems, Inc. installation success or error status:0
Windows Installer requires a system restart. Product Name: swMSM. Product Version 12.0.0.1. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Adobe Systems, Inc. installation success or error status:0
Ending a Windows Installer transaction: C:\windows\SysWOW64\Adobe\Schockwave 12\swMSM.msi. Client Process Id: 220.
The Windows Installer initiated a system restart to complete system restart to complete or continue the configuration of "swMSM".
Could you please explain me when Adobe Shockwave Player updates force a reboot? Unfortunately all updates are packed in exe files so I don't know any way how to suppress the reboot.
Additionally after the installation of the patch we see 2 entries in the control panel:
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1
Can you tell me how to get rid of the Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0 entry?  Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem on an iMac but managed to download and install shockwave 11, see Adobe - Webplayer
There appeared a notice for incompatibility, but was able to continue installation. Apps (not requiring sw 12) did run after.

  • Shockwave Player 10.2.0.023 Crashing IE

    Hi,
After deployment of Shockwave Player 10.2.0.023 using the MSI
    package (sw_lic_full_installer.msi), Internet Explorer continually
crashes when accessing Shockwave sites, such as
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/.
Disabling the Shockwave ActiveX Control (SwDir.dll) stops IE
from crashing, but obviously Shockwave Player no longer works.
    System Information:
    - Windows 2003 R2 with SP2
    - IE 6
Is this a known issue? If so, what version do you recommend
    deploying to Terminal/Citrix Servers?
    Cheers,
    Jeremy

I have a simular problem, have had it along time but until
now never bothered me, now i want it to work and it keeps crashing
    my explorer...
    windows xp
explorer 6.something (cant upgrade because of work issues and
    that ticks me off)
    details:
when playing a game online via yahoo or even when I
downloaded the trial version I can play for about 1-5 minutes then
explorer crashes and thats the end, no difference as to when I last
rebooted comp so not sure the issue solution.

  • Shockwave Player Backward Compatibility

Overview: Our Web Application uses Shockwave player to play DCR movies. At the end of the Movie, an event is raised by DCR movie which will be captured by VB Script functions in webpage. This event will be used to identify if the Movie has completed. This is very crustal information for our Application.
We have been using this method to capture the Movie end events in our application for over a decade.
    Issue:
In the latest version of Shockwave Player  V 12.0.7.148,  VBScript is not able to capture the DCR movie end event in Internet Explorer 9 and 10 Compatibility mode.
If we use Shockwave Player V12.0.4.144 , VB Script is able to capture the DCR movie end event in IE 9 and 10 Compatibility mode.
    Details:
The following “Lingo Script” is placed at the end of the page (Director Movie), which will generate an external event and can be captured by JavaScript (for getting the page completion status).
    on exitFrame me
    externalevent("")
    end
In our Web Application, the following “VB Script” is used to capture the external event passed in the Director Movie.
         <script language="vbscript">
              Sub LessonPage_externalEvent(str)
                  Call UpdateReviewStatus()
              End Sub

    </object>
Above code was working with Shockwave Player V 12.0.5.146.We have been using above code for over a decade without any issue.
But same code is not working on Shockwave Player V12.0.7.148
We understand that above lingo script will not work on Chrome and Firefox.

  • Shockwave player xtras error with rosetta stone

Im trying to use rosetta stone online with shockwave player but i keep getting two error messages, the first one i get is, "this application requires an xtra (FLT ear) that either does not exist or failed to load properly. Please make sure the appropriate xtras are in the xtras folder." then when i hit ok the movie player begins to load then the second error message pops up and says, " This shockwave movie has errors that have caused play back problems please contact the author of this content regarding problem, shockwave unable to continue." I have tried uninstalling the slim and full versions of both version 10, and 11 i have no idea what else to do. Im using a new macbook with mac os x version 10.6.3 thanks for any help you can give.

I figured out on my end that it was our Web Filter software blocking rosettastone.com. After adding this to our unblocked list it installed required components and ran successfully right away.

  • Why is my shockwave player always crashing while playing zynga farmville2 on FB?

while playing zynga farmville2 on FB, shockwave player continually crashes.  Sometimes it stops before the game finishes loading.  I usually end up killing the page.  I've used three different browsers and have problems in all three.  I've updated google chrome and that hasn't helped.  I have windows 7 starter edition.

I don't think these games are based on Shockwave Player; more likely Flash Player.
What is your Flash Player version?
What is your display adapter, driver version & date?

  • Shockwave Player download not in synch with displayed version

    Hi,
When I go here Adobe - Adobe Shockwave Player (via Firefox) and I select Windows OS I then get the choice between the full or slim files.
The problem is that today (but this has happened before many times) I can read for instance "Shockwave 12.1.6.156 Windows Full Other Browsers" while what I get after the download is version 12.1.5.155 instead of version 12.1.6.156.
I am fully aware that there other ways to get the latest Shockwave player, but I'd like this specific one to work correctly.
Is there a way to report this to the proper Adobe guys?
    Thank you
    Best Regards

The file name is always the same: Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe
The version number was given in my initial text: 12.1.5.155.
The digital signature of Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe 12.1.5.155 was somewhere at the end of 2014 (I don't have that file anymore).
Many times (if not every time) as soon as they update the drop-down menu item to "Shockwave x Windows Full Other Browsers" (where x is the brand new version) what you get after the download is complete, is the previous version of Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe and not the version x that was indicated in the drop-down menu item (what I detailed above with version numbers 12.1.6.156 and 12.1.5.155).
This situation lasts for some days; roughly I would say up to a week from when they update the drop-down menu item.
Only after that time what you get after the download is actually the proper version x.
This is not professional from Adobe.
    End of story.

  • Non-functional installs for Shockwave Player in Firefox

The online install for flash does not work for WIN XP-PRO SP 3, Firefox 31.0, in installing the Shockwave Player. It installs Flash Player, but not Shockwave Player. The manual install from the downloaded file :
       Shockwave_Installer_Full.exe
       version 12.1.3.153
Is also not fully functional for this.
The web page "https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/" says that I have Flash Player version 14,0,0,179 installed
However the page for testing the "Adobe Shockwave Player" (https://www.adobe.com/shockwave/welcome/) always says that I need to download a plugin.
Clicking the install link on the this test page for SHOCKWAVE PLAYER does not yield a functioning install either.
Eventually, after a lot of wandering our the Adobe web site, I went to the troubleshooting page and then on to the alternative installs page at :
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
    - note that NONE of the items listed on the alternative installer page, say that they work in FIREFOX!! None of them.
I had to go into the System Requirements link (http://www.adobe.com/products/shockwaveplayer/productinfo/systemreqs/) for a table that is about IE and Netscape installs, just to find out that "11" might ALSO work in Firefox. This is a large oversight. Most people will not click the system requirements for a browser they do not use, in order to get the browser they DO use to run SHOCKWAVE.
Adobe really needs to fix their onllne install to work better. I have been complaining about these issues (and others, with never-ending installs that don;t work) for over a year. They also need to fix the web page ( http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/ ) to state that it works in FIREFOX, not just IE.
    - again -  Most people will not click the system requirements for a browser they do not use, in order to get the browser they DO use to run SHOCKWAVE.

What exactly does that mean?  What happens when you run that installer?
I know that the Shockwave Player download page just mentions IE and Netscape; that is probably because most non-IE browsers are really based on the original Netscape architecture, and the plugins are still the same (NPAPI).
The page also says "Shockwave Player 11", although Shockwave has been at version 12 for quite a while.  I have tried to get Adobe to update that page, but it seems to be an impossible task!

  • Firefox Plugins lists Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 but Adobe lists this as Adobe Flash Player, and Version 12.0.9.149 as Adobe Shockwave Player, so wtf is going on

Flash causes us all immense confusion, and Firefox is adding to the problem.
My Firefox Add-ons page lists (under Plugins -- isn't there a difference?) that I have:
Shockwave Flash 12.0.0.70 which is set to "Always Activate".
    Adobe websites list:
    Adobe Flash Player 12.0.0.70
    Adobe Shockwave Player 12.0.9.149
-- so what on earth is the Firefox-listed "Shockwave Flash"?
This simply adds to the utter confusion already surrounding Flash Player -- which I cannot find anywhere amongst my Programs -- but which I can find under "Uninstall or change a Program" where it is listed as "Adobe Flash Player 12 Plugin".
There is also the thorny issue of FlashPlayer vs. FlashPlayerDownloader......
I need a flash of inspiration to get me out of shock -- I'm not waving, I'm drowning!

In the internals of the plugin it is still referenced as Shockwave Flash. That hasn't changed as it would break websites that check for a specific plugin name. You can see that on the about:plugins page and in the properties of the Flash plugins file.
You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and paste this JavaScript code in the command line to see how the Adobe Flash Player plugin identifies itself:
    <pre><nowiki>console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].name);
    console.log(navigator.plugins["Shockwave Flash"].description);
    </nowiki></pre>
    *https://developer.mozilla.org/Tools/Web_Console
On disk you will also see Macromedia for folder names used by the plugin.
    *32 bit Windows: C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\
    *64 bit Windows: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\
    * C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player\

  • Old movie will not play in new shockwave player

Hi, I have searched the forums, Adobe support and web in
general for help on this, but to my surprise have not found
anything. I created some Shockwave movies perhaps 5 years ago for
science education and have not used Director since then. I just
received a report that the movies are broken and will not play.
This is happening on WinXP in IE and in Firefox with the latest
Shockwave player installed, but the movies work fine on OSX 10.4.8
in Safari and Firefox, also with the latest Shockwave player
installed. I am not a Director developer anymore and do not own a
current version of the program, I am primarily a scientist and
educator. I'm hoping the problem is in the code that embeds the
movie, and that the movies are still compatible with the new
Shockwave player on Windows. Can anyone help out, please? One of
the movies can be found at

  • Shockwave player compatible with OSX 10.10.2?

Since updating to Yosemite, I am having probs with shockwave player. When on certain sites, i get the error "plugin failed." I have reinstalled adobe reader to the latest version, and when checking shockwave it says i have most current version. I have not found a place where i can uninstall shockwave, then reinstall. i also cant find it in my apps folder (shouldnt it be separate from Adobe Reader?) I have checked and it does this failure on the latest versions of Safari, Firefox and Chrome. I have also run disk utility and repairs.
If shockwave player is not compatible with Yosemite, could u let me know? I have spent HOURS on this prob, with no solution. Any help will be appreciated.

It sounds like you have an older AirPort Express.
Check the Model No on the side of the device. If you see A1084 or A1088 there, Mountain Lion 10.8.2 will not support these devices.
You might be able to use a workaround mentioned in this article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167965/mountain_lion_and_the_ancient_airport_ba se_station.html
This is not supported by Apple, but it does work for me. Unfortunately, there is no way to say whether it might work for you if you want to try it.
Other users may post with some other workarounds as well.
