Shockwave plug-in incompatibility

My Director 11 shockwave files will not run on a Mac with OS
X "Tiger" 10.4.11. With the older plug-in (10) I get an alert that
the browser cannot open the "new" format, and it asks if I want to
install the newer version. Yet when I install the most recent
plug-in (11), I get this alert: "The page [xxx] attempted to load
an internet plug-in named "Shockwave for Director", but the plug-in
failed to load successfully."
What gives? Adobe's right-hand (Shockwave plug-in 11) does
not know what its left-hand (Director 11) is doing? Am I to assume
that any and all Director 11 shockwave files will henceforth only
run on Macs with Leopard, and not with Tiger? This is
unacceptable!

That's odd, Rob. I can get the shockwave file to run okay
with Leopard, both on an Intel and a Power PC machine. But neither
plug-in will work with Tiger.
I echo your frustration. I was happy with MX and MX 2004, but
then discovered that the latter wouldn't open or properly run its
shockwave files on Leopard, so I paid hundreds of dollars to
upgrade to Director 11 --only to discover numerous bugs and
incompatibilities. (See my previous post about disappearing text in
fields!)
It is more than obvious to me that Adobe has not done its
homework upon taking over Macromedia. They need to issue a serious
update to fix all these problems! It has been months now!

Problem with Adobe Shockwave plug-in

I've been trying to use the Shockwave game site and none of the games that use the Shockwave plug-in appear to be working. I've attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the plug in numerous times using various versions (slim and full) but the results are the same - the page begins to load but then hangs on the "connecting" message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Download the latest version (v.11):

open the disk image and use the uninstaller before you do anything else to get rid of any old version. (The comments on VersionTracker are from users who didn't!)
Now install the new version and, as is always required after installing anything from Adobe, repair permissions.

My website is telling users to install a flash/shockwave plug in but my site does not use either.

Like I said in the title we are getting the pop up bar asking users to install a flash plug in but there are not any flash objects on our site. I did an experiment and I found when I disable the shockwave plug-in on a machine that has it installed I get the pop-up and when I enable it on a machine that has it installed the pop-up goes away. I think I might have pin pointed the problem to a tracking script because when I remove the script the website does not ask for a plug-in. I contacted the people who made the script and they told me their script does not use flash in anyway. Does anyone have any idea why our useres are being asked to install the plug-in?

Do you have any advertising on the site that could be using shockwave? If not the script you mention must somehow be using it somehow, you have even confirmed this removing it and there is no prompt.
What happens if you try it using another browser such as Firefox?

Shockwave plug-in failure on old material

I have a number of small little animations made in Director long ago that now generate "Plug-in failure" responses when I try to open them within Safari or Opera on a Mac running 10.9 with the current version of the Shockwave plug-in (12.1.3.153). I can't even open the .dir files under 10.9 in Director 11.5. I saw that Helvetica has been a problem recently, so I modified one (on a 10.6 machine that will still open the .dir files) to drop Helvetica, but the plug-in still fails. This is driving me nuts as these are little things we use from time to time in teaching and not things I want to rewrite (if I have to rewrite them, I'll go to Flash, which it seems Adobe pays more attention to). Anybody have an idea if there is a simple workaround, or even what to look for to identify why the plug-in fails? I use these quite intermittently so I'm not sure at what rev of OS/plug-in they started to fail....

Thanks, but I can open these in 11.5 on my older (10.6) machine, so I don't know that the D10 to 11.5 route from your end would do much different (unless the Windows version of Director generates a different .dcr file)--the MagVector animation was saved out of 11.5 on that 10.6 machine with D11.5, but I can't figure out why it won't work with the current plug in (won't show in Safari on the 10.6 Mac, but does work in Camino under 10.6). I will either have to compare with the one animation that does work to see what clues are there or just move everything over to Flash (nothing I do is complex enough to require Shockwave--it was just what was handy 10 or 12 years ago when I made these). Had hoped somebody out there might have known a likely cause.

Shockwave Plug-ins failed to load successfully?

I am going crazy tryin to figure out why safari hasn't been able to load shockwave plug-ins, it never use to have this problem before and now every time a new page opens, safari pops up a window saying that the plug-ins haven't loaded success fully. This effects the video and audio features that usually work. I have already checked the security preferences and everything is enabled. If any one knows anything about this or how i can solve this problem, PLEASE let me know! thanks!

Have you tried reinstalling the plug-in? To do so, go to your Internet Plug-ins folder (either in your main or User Library) and remove NP-PPC-Dir-Shockwave. If neither Library has Shockwave, then you've found your problem. In either case, a fresh version is available here..
Also, sometimes, two Shockwave plug-ins are unintentionally installed, one in each Library. If so, remove one of them, as they would conflict. Then try a Shockwave site again. If no go, reinstall as above.

Shockwave Plug-in unresponsive or just crashes? Help (I have tried almost everything that I know of)

Hi, I am sure you have heard this a million times but I'm going to ask because I have run out of options and have never asked it here. I like to play Facebook games on my computer which is a 32 bit windows 7 version operating system. Anyway it crashes on me constantly! It can be up to 5 times within a half hour! Well actually it goes Unresposive on me around 5 times and crashes around twice an hour or half hour time.Then I just quit because i am so fed up!. Sometimes I wait it out.That is if it say's that the plug-in isn't responsive. It will then usually snap out of it but when it doesn't it decides to crash all together.Then it works just to turn around and do it again. Then I have to go back to the main Face book page and start the game all over again. This has been going on for as long as I can remember. Gradually getting worse as I try to fix it. Not sure what changed to make it happen in the first place because I am the only one using my computer for the most part and I do not change or download anything. Occassionally, my son might use it but he is pretty computer savy. I am not that good with computers, I mean like a computer nerd or something, but I definitely know my way around one for the most part. I have been looking this problem up forever on the Internet and have tried most everything that I have read and it has only made my problems worse. Right now I am trying to uninstall it so I can then reinstall it but the Uninstall program from Adobe won't go any further than the part where they tell you that you have something else running in the background and they can't go forward until it is closed. Problem is, everything is closed that I can tell. They say my Internet Explorer is running but it's not. Not that I can tell any way. Like I said in less there is some secret that I don't know about I would know from my desktop, downloads, or task manager among other ways if it were running. I remember trying this before as well months ago and it said the same thing. I have already tried the double file thing under Chrome// Plugins and disabled my second copy that is once I had one. At first I didn't but I keep a close eye on it because of my son so as soon as there were two copies running I disabled one.It didn't make any difference.So that isn't the problem and never has been.So please no need to bring that one up. I of course tried other things, suggestions from other websites but can't remember them now except that one of the suggestions I followed literally wiped out my entire Chrome Favorites Bookmark List. Argggg!! Years and years of websites were gone just like that. When I set my computer back to before I did that it still didn't give them back to me. O.K. so maybe I don't know what the hell I am doing or maybe they didn't. I don't know. I was trying anything. I was desperate and they sounded like they knew what they are talking about. But it still irritates me even though it was over 6 months ago or more.. I tried then everything to get my bookmarks back in Chrome and I couldn't. Any help out there about fixing the Shockwave crashes and Shockwave Unresponsive warnings? Please!Thanks, Ellen

Ok you got to post more information then that of the crash can you post more information about it like the frequency it happens, the code that pops up the id so go into the reliability history and post the info about the last crash

Shockwave Plug in problem

I am trying to access a page that contains a game.
When trying to naviagate to this page it comes up saying this:

Now i believe i have downloaded shockwave ( if someone can help me check please) but still won't work...

Well, this won't help Josh because he's on an Intel as Dick M pointed out.
I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 PPC and Shockwave 11 DOES NOT work on my machine.
I can run Shockwave 10.1.1r16 Slim PPC and these two games play just fine (and others).

How to disable checking for updates for Shockwave plug-in?

SOS: how can I disable checking for updates (and reporting
that there is one) for a Shockwave object on a web page?
I have a client with an older Shockwave version, and it's a
royal pain for each user to be told there's a newer veriosn and do
you want to download...
Any help gratefully received.

I have zero experience of macs.
Can't you install Silverlight and the plugin for all users rather than a specific one?
I would guess/hope/expect there'd then be one plist file for everyone?

0n the Verify Plug in page of Firefox, it says that Adobe Shokwave Flash is not up to date. I've just doanloaded the latest version and tested it, all is fine. The problem seems to be with firefox!

What version of Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat do you have? Updating that should take care of the plugin automatically. If it doesn't, we can detail how to track down the old plugin and remove it.
To update your Adobe product, open it directly (outside Firefox) then on the Help menu, choose Check for Updates. If it claims to already be up-to-date, could you re-open the Help menu and choose the "About" item to check your current version number?
After updating Adobe Reader/Acrobat, you may need to exit and start Firefox up again before the change is detected. Any improvement?

Safari says i need shockwave plug in

i opened safari and it said that it tried to open the shockwave plugin but it couldn't. how can i fix this? is this somewhere that i can download the plugin?

Firefox crashes on some web sites because of Shockwave Flash plug-in

I have the latest Firefox running on updated Windows Vista SP2. Each time I go to my Google+ site, FF opens it and then crashes. I have located the problem for this crash to the Adobe Flash plug-in. When I disable the Shockwave Flash plug-in, crashes would stop. The Shockwave plug-in is updated to the latest version, and I even re-installed it, which didn't help. I have similar crashes on some other sites during searches. It becomes rather frequent and irritating. Please suggest some options how to deal with that.

Thanks for reply. I do have the updated version of Trusteer Rapport. It is really interesting - I disable Shockwave Flash, and the crashes would stop. Then I would enable the Shockwave and stop the Rapport, the crashes would also stop. However, when they both are active - Firefox crashes all the time on Google+ web site. I do not have the same problem with Google Chrome and IE-9, only Firefox. I will try to ask Trusteer forums, but doubt that they would be able to offer something. It looks like Firefox specifically does not like something.

Shockwave. cannot install

Like everyone else I jumped right into the 10.10 upgrade. Actually I did a clean install from USB.
My son went to do a lesson for school that requires the Shockwave plug-in and when I went to install Shockwave, I get an error telling me "Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1 can't be installed on this disk. Adobe Shockwave not supported on this OS version."
Any ideas? My son needs to get this lesson done. The school tech folks are telling me that this is a problem with the Beta 10.10, but as far as I know, I do not have the beta. I downloaded it directly from the app store.

I had the same problem on an iMac but managed to download and install shockwave 11, see Adobe - Webplayer
There appeared a notice for incompatibility, but I was able to continue installation. Apps (not requiring sw 12) did run after.

Firefox crash with Shockwave plugin

I recently switched to Firefox since am having much troubles with G Chrome, The problem is that when my Shockwave Plug in is enabled, Firefox Freezes when it's loading a page, untill i disabled Shockwave and it doesn't freeze anymore but i can't do anything that needs Shockwave to run since it's disabled, i have tried restoring and everything, can someone help me please?

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash update and/or a malfunctioning browser plugin such as Real Player.

Adobe Shockwave Player download catch 22

When I try to download the newest version of Adobe Shockwave Player (from Adobe - Adobe Shockwave Player) it doesn't work. After clicking the 'download' button, I get this error: "This page contains a new Shockwave format movie that the current Shockwave plug-in cannot handle. Would you like to download the newer version of the plug-in?" with the options "Yes" or "No". If I click yes, it sends me back to the last page I was on, creating a catch 22. To download Shockwave, I need Shockwave. If I choose no, it does nothing and only shows me another Adobe product. Is there a download link that does not require me to use Shockwave before downloading and installing it?

Nevermind, it works now. I uninstalled my current version and installed the newest version and it works now. Problem solved!
