Shockwave Slim vs. Full Installers?

I have searched all over the internet and on the adobe website and cannot find out the difference between the slim and full installers.  some websites say that the full version has backwards compatibility and the slim doesn't, and other sites say that the full installer is for offline use and that the slim is for online use.  I just want to know what the difference is so that i install the correct version.

The full version contains (all?) the auto-downloadable xtras published by Adobe - you should install the full version and save some time/bandwidth later.

  • Shockwave Slim Download Has a Problem

Helllo. I am writing to give a complain that the download link for Shockwave slim have a mildly serious problem. The problem is when I wanted to download Shockwave slim which should be the file size of 3.33MB, but instead gave me a huge file of 1.06GB of absolute nothing in the file, and it was a utter waste of time to download the file, mind you. Can it please be repaired immediately?

  • Why can't you post direct links to the full installers?

    Not a tough question:
Why can't you just post direct links to the full installers instead of forcing people to sign up for "Distribution" EVERY DAMN RELEASE!?!?
Why do I have to fill out that form and wait a day after EVERY, SINGLE, RELEASE just to update more than one system? I have 150,000 nodes to upgrade. Why does Adobe go out of their way to make this difficult? Why the hell don't you inform people who already signed up about the new installers BEFORE they go to auto-update so system administrators could actually distribute them beforehand?
How could this possibly be a good thing for Adobe? I just had 50,000 nodes try to upgrade on their own, ALL OF THEM failed. That's 750 GIGABYTES of bandwidth you just wasted Adobe, yours and mine.
No more Flash updates I guess. There is no reason this has to be so terrible.

The download links for the offline installers are posted multiple times in this forum every day: http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player- windows.html#main-pars_header
And if you have signed up for a distribution license, you can always go directly to http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html for your corporate downloads.  There is really no need to sign up again.

  • Shockwave Slim Install doesn't download SWA Streaming Xtra

Hi all, I'm having a frustrating time trying to fix this
problem, hope someone can help. I have a Director project (MX 2004,
10.1.1) that ends up as a Shockwave movie on a website. It makes
heavy use of Shockwave Streaming Audio and is therefore
dependent on the SWA xtras (namely: "SWA Decompression PPC Xtra"
and "SWA Streaming PPC Xtra" and their efficiently named Windows
alternatives) that have been removed from the default Shockwave
    installer (the "Slim Install"; re:
    http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_19523).
I've been getting lots of reports of "Xtra not found..." errors
lately, mainly from people installing SW for the first time, and
are thusly installing the new "slim install" version.
Now, supposedly this shouldn't be a problem, as the movie has
the "Download if needed" option checked in the
Modify->Movie->Xtras dialog and for a while I thought it may
have been an errant thing or a PEBKAC but after reading the above
referenced tech note I've been able to reproduce the error by
uninstalling SW (I had a full install, so I already had the xtras
on my system) and reinstalling via the "slim installer." The movie
loads, the status bar says "Downloading Xtras..." or some such and
then looks to be working fine until a streaming audio file is
loaded at which point the "Xtra not found" error pops up and then
    the movie bails from errors.
So I look in my Shockwave plugin's Xtras folder (on OS x:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Macromedia/Shockwave
    10/Xtras/Download/MacromediaInc/SWA - phew!) and there I find...
The decompression Xtra but the streaming xtra is nowhere to be
found. Nothing I've tried has worked to get it to correctly
download the "SWA Streaming PPC Xtra" automagically.
    I realize that
from now on I can direct people to install the full version
if they haven't before installed any version, but if they've
already installed the "slim install" and it won't download these
Xtras it means they have to call and I have to tell them they need
to install the full version... This, of course, means telling them
    to
    uninstall Shockwave and then
reinstall with the full version to which they all smile and
respond, "Oh, ok, cool! That sounds like fun." :-[ That's a less
than ideal solution, in my opinion, so I'm trying to find a way to
get it to download these Xtras correctly.
So I looked in the "Activity" window in Safari while the page
with the movie loads and, sure enough, one of the resources it
requests is the SWA.carb file located here:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/shockwave10.1/xtras/SWA.carb
and it downloads it without error or fail, but only one of the
accompanying Xtras is actually downloaded and installed in the
    user's Xtras folder.
In the tech note about the slim installer, it mentions this:
    quote:
...the 10.1 version of the Shockwave Player now includes its
own copy of all Macromedia Xtra package download URLs. Therefore, a
given Macromedia Xtra only needs to appear in the movie's Xtra list
in order to participate in the auto-download feature of the player.
    Which sounds like it
should download the 2 Xtras whether "download if needed" is
    checked or not (it
is), but it doesn't download the streaming xtra.
Is it possible the download URLs in the Shockwave Player are
    incorrect?
Has anyone else had this problem and/or have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the length - just trying
    to be thorough,
    pete

Hi, I don't know very much about computers, so this may be
all junk but I was successful today in downloading a version of
Flash Player 9. I had tried everything but at Flash Player Support,
    http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer,
way down the page on the right side I saw "Flash Player Downloads:
Flash Player; Additional Downloads; Archived Major Versions of
Flash Player; Other Players." I decided that since I have older
equipment and software maybe my machine could not handle Flash
Player 9 and I would try downloading an older version. After
selecting Archived Major Versions of Flash Player, I was surprised
to see Version 9. I download the zipped file to my computer and
then used "Run" to unzip and install. So far so good. I have all
the functions I need and everything is working great. The download
page warned "You can download these players from the Adobe website.
They are available specifically for Flash developers who are
examining their sites from the perspective of users with earlier
versions of Flash Player. Adobe has made these archived players
available for download at the request of the Flash developer
community. Adobe Technical Support does not provide support for the
installation or use of these old players" I have no idea what that
means and maybe the whole thing turns into pumpkins at midnight.
But I have Flash Player 9 for now. If this is all nonsense, please
be kind when you tell why this will not work. Hope it helps and
    Thanks

  • What's the defferent between OEM Grid Patch Installers and Full Installers?

There are two type of OEM Grid zip file on the Oracle's download site, one is Path Installer and another is Full Installer, what's the defferent between them during installation?

    If I remember correctly...
The FULL installer will allows you one of 4 options.
-- Full install of all components including creation of a new database
-- Full install of all components with an existing database.
-- Install of additional Management Service ( OMS)
-- Install of additional Management Agent ( OMA)
The PATCH installer allows you to patch any of components depending on which $ORACLE_HOME you select.
** If you wanted to Install Oracle Grid Control 10.2.0.3.0, you would most likely ( depending on OS) install the FULL install of 10.2.0.1 and then apply the PATCH install of 10.2.0.3

  • IE Shockwave Full Installer Link is wrong

    1. The link for IE Full installer on this page is wrong:
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
It doesnt actually download an executable, but instead goes to the standard SW installation page.
    2. The link under Netscape Full Installer does download a standalone installer. However, when I use that to install the full version of the SW player, it still requires a secondary installer when it encounters a SW file which was created by earlier versions of Macromedia Director (just as SLIM version does.) Shouldn't the Full version install everything SW player requires to play any SW file?

I had troubles too, but solved it. Adobe has just put the wrong link, they put the slim version for both slim and full.
    To get the full version:
Change the word "Slim" in the URL to "Full", but I'm still not sure if it is as I see no difference.

  • Silent installation of Shockwave WITHOUT GOOGLE BLOATWARE and WITH ActiveX

I believe a lot of corporate admins are looking for the answer to this question from Adobe...
    Q. How do we silently install Shockwave player on our coporate machines WITHOUT installing the GOOGLE BLOATWARE and at the same time ensure that the ActiveX is embedded with the browsers?
At this moment in time we are downloading and installing Shockwave centrally using the SLIM installers because the Full installers install the Google Toolbar bloatware. This is a dark road and Adobe going down this route is in my eyes no different from e-mail SPAM (We don't want it!).
However the issue with this installation is that the users still get prompted to install Shockwave and the associated Google Toolbar bloatware when they vist Shockwave enabled websites, even though Shockwave is successfully listed in Add/Remove/Programs. I believe this is because it's trying to install the ActiveX? This is no good if the users isn't an admin. Perhaps this is because we are using the Slim version?
Anyhow, Adobe, the question still stands....
    Q. How do we silently install Shockwave player on our coporate machines WITHOUT installing the GOOGLE BLOATWARE and at the same time ensure that the ActiveX is embedded with the browsers?
    P.S. Here's our current command line installation:  sw_lic_slim_installer.exe /S _?=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Adobe\Shockwave 11
    Thanks,

If you use the MSI installer, you don't get any bloatware.
All you need to do is fill out the licensing info on this site: http://www.adobe.com/products/players/shockwave-player-licensing-distribution.html
Then you can download the MSI installer and just install it with a command like like this: msiexec /i sw_lic_full_installer.msi /qn /log c:\support\logs\applogs\ShockWave_12.0.0.112.log
If you don't use something like SMS or SCCM you could do it through goup policy or whatever mechanism you're using now.
Also, IIRC, the exe downloaders you get from the license distribution page are different from the regular downloads, and also lack any bloatware.
    Hope that helps!

  • Adobe Flash/Shockwave Problems

for some reason Adobe Flash is Crashing Every day for the last 2 weeks with Firefox i'v reinstalled it and it didn't help one bit and not sure whats going on. my system is a Win 8 (64bit) Firefox version is 25.0

Download the following files (Right click and "Save Link as"):
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    Shockwave Player Uninstaller
    Flash Player Uninstaller
    Shockwave Player 12 FULL Installer
    Reboot.
Run the Uninstallers from your Downloads folder, to remove BOTH Flash Player and Shockwave.
Go to: C/Windows/System32 and delete the Macromed folder.
Go to: C/Windows/SysWOW64 and delete the Macromed folder.
Open your Windows Registry Editor (Start>Run or press the Windows key+r. Tpye "regedit" [minus the quotes] and click OK.
In the Registry Editor, go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE and delete the Macromedia folder.
Go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software and delete the Macromedia folder.
Close the Registry Editor and empty your Recycle bin.
Run the Shockwave FULL Installer first, and THEN the Flash Player Installer. These are offline installers and will require no connection during the process.
If problems persist, try disbaling other plugins and extensions for Firefox, to determine if one or more is conflicting with Flash and Shockwave.

  • Problem with Adobe Shockwave plug-in

I've been trying to use the Shockwave game site and none of the games that use the Shockwave plug-in appear to be working. I've attempted uninstalling and reinstalling the plug in numerous times using various versions (slim and full) but the results are the same - the page begins to load but then hangs on the "connecting" message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Download the latest version (v.11):
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/10724399
open the disk image and use the uninstaller before you do anything else to get rid of any old version. (The comments on VersionTracker are from users who didn't!)
Now install the new version and, as is always required after installing anything from Adobe, repair permissions.
    Post back with results!

  • I need the download for the Security Update for Shockwave Player Active X 12.0.3.133

    To Whom It May Concern,
I need the download for Adobe Shockwave Player Security Update for Shockwave Player Active X 12.0.3.133.  So far all I have got is the run around.  Please can someone help me get this update for my laptop?
    Sincerely,

Is there a reason you need this SPECIFIC build? Because I was unable to locate it in three different places I looked.
There are FULL installers here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp (version 11)
    12.0.4.144 is here: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/

  • Have the installers for Flash x64 bit and Flash x32 Bit been combined?

Up until just recently there were always 2 different installers for Flash. The 32 bit version and the 64 bit version. Has Adobe now combined the two separate installers in to one? Or do I still need to find separate x64 and x32 bit installers? I seem to be able to find the installer for 11.3.300.265 but it no longer says it is for 32 bit or 64 bit.
I have been searching for some sort of a message or update put out by Adobe Flash announcing that they have combined the two installs, something that should be on the download page in big bold letters so that we know about the change and know we can stop keeping 4 separate installers and reduce it to two.
I am an IT support professional and one of my jobs is to keep up to date with the full installers for things like Flash, Adobe Reader, Shockwave etc so that we can supply our customers with the latest updates, no spam involved and no tricks to install additional UNNEEDED and UNWANTED junk ware such as the MacAfee Security Scan Plus or Google Tool Bar that they try to trick you into installing, by pre-checking it, AN EVIL THING TO DO TO UNKNOWLEDGEABLE USERS, and the main reason we have to find and download the FULL INSTALLERS sans the crap ware ourselves and cannot trust Adobe to provide us with Crap Ware Free installs etc. ( For Shockwave we have to manually install it ourselves, a very time consuming thing since it ALWAYS tries to trck the user in to installing EVIL CRAP WARE such as Google Tool Bar and Norton's Security junk. If these were not EVIL programs and crap ware then they would not need to pre-check their installation, but they must obviously be EVIL CRAP WARE since they have to resort to tricking usurers in to installing them via a pre-check.

recently completed a fresh install of Snow Leopard but i cannot install shockwave player; stating

Does anyone know of this or has a solution?

Quick fix if you want to install Shockwave Player on 10.6 before Adobe has released a fixed version:
Download Shockwave Slim Installer and mount the disk image.
Open Terminal.app (in the Utilities folder), then run the following command (it's a oneliner):
    cp -Rp /Volumes/Adobe\ Shockwave\ 11/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg ~/Desktop/ && cp /usr/bin/false ~/Desktop/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg/Contents/Resources/InstallationCheck && open ~/Desktop/Shockwave_Installer_Slim.pkg
Worked for me, and it should work for you, but I take no responsibility
