Shoot in RAW but to import JPEG and RAW

im using Nikon d7000. i just shoot in RAW only but i want to import both the JPEG thumbnail (which contains camera adjustments) and the RAW file, is it possible?

Hello Heny,
by the way, what do you mean by appropriate import settings?
Sorry for being somewhat sketchy, I simply meant the "Raw&Jpeg Pairs" brick in the" Import Settings" panel, also set the Adjustment Presets to "none", if you want to see the original camera settings in the Jpeg.
If you import pairs, you need to tell Aperture, which of the pair you want currently to be the master - that you can change in the "Photos" menu: "Set Raw as master" or "Set jepg as master", for each selected image individually.

You actually don't need to make a flipbook yourself. There are paid and free, ready-to-use flipbooks in Flash or HTML5 available which you just need to configure and then put all images into a specific folder and the flipbook runs them.

  • Importing JPEG and TIFF

I have some jpeg and tiff images on a disc. I saved the images to my desktop and then imported them into FCP. The problem is that some of the files seem to be bad. Some have a red horizontal line through them and some have blue lines through them. I checked it on another computer and they read fine. I tried saving the images to the desktop a second time but now different images are bad. FCP will not read the bad files.
    Any thoughts?

Bad quality when looking at the pictures via the

The RGB check is a really good idea. I would also consider putting the images on an external media file. The fact that FC is looking on the system drive could be causing some of the problem.

  • After RT offline, media manager imports DV but timeline imports JPEG qualit

After RT edit I use media manager to re-import seclected full rez footage into a sequence w. DV presets. Afterward when I play the sequence, all the video is a 320x280 jpeg size inside the larger, black 720 frame. Sequence has DV settings but each clips brought into the viewer shows jpeg settings.
Two questions: 1) what am I doing wrong with Media Manager and
    2) can I use "reconnect media" somehow to connect 720 timeline with the 720 video. The which is on hardrive - it was imported during media management operation. Just didn't make it to the timeline. I dont want to reimport a second time. Thank you.

Captured in Offline RT initially, finished the sequence then used media manager to reimport the footage used in the sequence. Defined DV settings for the sequence but even though media manager had me insert all my tapes and captured DV quality footage - which I can see on my drive - the new sequence (which has DV full frame settings) plays 320 jpeg sized video.
I had done a test of media manager before I started the project and it worked. So I may be doing something wrong with a setting somewhere. FCP Help is a little light on explaing the steps.
Also, since media manager DID import the DV footage I need, can I connect the DV seqenece to this footge without having to import again. I tried highlighting a few cuts in the sequence and selecting "reconnect media" but that just reconnected me to the JPEG material.
    Thanks.

  • Can "jpeg+raw" imported single file be split into jpeg and raw files?

I manage to choose to import my jpeg and raw pictures as single jpeg+raw files accidentely. What means with this format? can I split this "jpeg+raw" pictures into jpeg and raw again? If you edit a jpeg+raw picture are you just working with the raw file, I mean I saw that I could change the exposure on the file which you only can do on raw files. Is it a bad idea to import jpeg and raw pictures as a single file? I really don´t understand the properties of this "jpeg+raw"-file
    /Magnus Lightroom rookie

With RAW+JPEG, the JPEG is only used for the initial Library view, prior to generating previews from the RAW file. Once you have generated previews and/or developed the image, the JPEG is unused. The edits you make won't affect the JPEG at all. It is, however, still tied to the RAW as metadata, so deleting the JPEG will flag your image as having problems (and list it as "missing" even though it's very clearly in your catalog). Tuning off the option to handle RAW+JPEG together in preferences won't fix past combo images, but it will avoid making this idiotic mistake in the future. After turning it off, export your metadata to the RAWs, then delete them from the library (not the disk) and then reimport them without the JPEGs. Peace will rule the world.

  • JPEG and White Balance

When Aperture imports JPEGs it offers the same white balance options as it does for RAW files.
My understandiing from using Lightroom which does not use temperature in it's white balance Develop module for JPEGs, is that there is no data associated with a JPEG that tells the program where to start with white balance.
I'm curious as to what assumptions Aperture makes with regard to white balance when importing JPEGs and what goes on in the background as you change the temperature with a JPEG.
    Thank you.

Aperture assigns a temperature of 5000k to all jpg and tif files.
I don't know what goes on in the background but the temperature changes are useful, if not correct.

  • Jpeg and gif images are not fuzzy

    Carl,
the only drawback with #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# and #APP_IMAGES# is that it doesn't get cached by the browser. So each page request will transmit the hole file again. A caching option for the "Static Files" in the Shared Components would be nice :-)
About lazy loading with the #WORKSPACE_IMAGES#. I could think about a mod_rewrite rule which translates the additional file request of the JS library into a valid request for APEX.
    Carl Backstrom
In 3.1 we emit a last modified header now for uploaded files so that should help with browser caching.
I wonder if anything's changed since then.

Than LR should have brought in the RAW files as well. ACR is the RAW
processing engine used by LR under the covers so anything not supported by
ACR would not be supported by Lightroom.
Are you shooting RAW plus JPEG? By default, Lightroom will stack then
unless you tell it not to. Check to see if there is a small badge on the
preview that looks like two sheets of paper with a number. That is how
Lightroom indicates a stack. You can unstack them by clicking on the badge.
There is also a menu item to stack/unstack photos. Otherwise, I would have
to research but not sure why Lightroom would ignore the RAW photos but
    still import the JPEGS.

  • How is the Raw data used in iPhoto. I currently shoot both jpeg and raw and import them both into iPhoto.

How is the Raw data used in iPhoto? I currently shoot both jpeg and raw and import them both into iPhoto. What do I gain by collecting Raw data?
    Thanks

You get more parameters for making adjustments to the image. This is not really an iPhoto question but more a general photography one. In rather simple terms here's how a digital camera works:
You expose an image. A lot of data is gathered in by the sensor. But it's just a bug lump of data and not very useful in that form.
In cameras that shoot jpeg that mass of data is interpreted/processed into an actual image, and the image is stored in a jpeg file. (that's a process broadly analogous to developing a film). The decisions that go into making that interpretation are all made by an engineer somewhere, back when the camera was developed.
If you shoot Raw, then what you do is take that mass of data, and rather than working to the decisions made by that engineer, you develop the shot - you run the digital darkroom.
Why would you do this? Take on all this extra work? Well one of three reasons: a: you think you can do a better job than that engineer. b: you just prefer the result you get when you develop yourself or c: you're a hopeless shooter and raw means you have more options to fix the mistakes you made in the camera. (That's why I do it.)
Here endeth the two dollar tour. So, basically, if you're happy with what your camera produces in Jpeg then there's really no need to shoot Raw.
There's no need at all to shoot Raw+Jpeg as iPhoto creates a jpeg preview when you import, so you're just wasting space.

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.

  • In L/R 3, is there a way to import JPEG's only when you are shooting RAW + JPEG?

In LR3 is there a way to import JPEG's only when I am shooting RAW + JPEG -- say in the case of being on-location and I want to create a quick slideshow without importing the large, slow RAW images?  (Shooting only in JPEG is not an option -- wedding photography.)

The answer in short is no....but...if you separate your images before import then they will be imported as desired. You could import to LR and rename or resort or put in quick collection and separate jpeg from RAW and then put them into a separate folder. As an aside, shooting jpeg +RAW seems duplicitous since LR "sees" both formats.  To my mind...I work as a professional retoucher...just shoot RAW since it is just as fast as jpeg in capturing images, and you have the freedom to adjust the images uncompressed.  Then import the images as RAW into LR...if you truly need jpeg for something like sending to a client, simplt export them as jpegs via the Export dialog. Your original RAW images are unaffected!

  • Shooting raw+jpeg and replicating treatment

If you shoot raw+jpeg and happen to like the jpeg treatment of a given shot, is there a way to precisely replicate or transfer the jpeg pp parameters to the raw? Not by eye, but precisely.

    Jao vdL wrote:
The only way to get perfectly the same rendering is to use Canon's software.
While technically true, in practice, not so much...
The first and most important thing one must grasp (and accept) is there is no such thing as "correct" when it comes to rendering raw files...the raw sensor data is something that is subject to interpretation...it;s like shooting a color neg–the best interpretation may not be the most "accurate" nor "technically correct".
If you fall in love with the JPEG rendering, you will find life somewhat frustrating if you use Camera Raw or Lightroom because as pointed out above, if you are trying to "match"" (as in accurately replicating the exact tone and color) the rendering produced by Canon or Nikon, you're life will, essentially suck...because matching the EXACT rendering in ACR/LR is not going to be a pleasurable experience–it's doable but the question you gotta ask, is it worth it?
Shooting Raw & JPEG is an exercise in futility...you either get quick and easy JPEGs you can use (with zero chance matching them in ACR) or raw fles that you can control the rendering on (but pretty much forget matching the JPEG exactly)...
You would be better off shooting raw and learning how to render out JPEGs quickly that WILL match the raw files (cause they are based from the raw files).

  • Importing geotagged jpeg and raw photos with xmp files issue

I had a folder of photos (all unique, no dupes) from two different cameras. Some were .jpg and some .cr2 (raw). I used an external app on my Mac 10.6.x called PhotoLinker to geotag the photos based on gpx track files. I wrote the metadata out to .xmp files, done by that app. So then I had a folder with .jpg, .cr2 and .xmp files I then moved them to another volume and did an Import Move operation in LR3.  For the raw images, all went fine.  The images were pulled into LR and they each had the geotagged data for location. But for the jpeg images they were imported into the catalog in LR but none of them had any geotagged data for the location.
Can someone let me know if they have encountered this problem and what they did about it?  Is this a bug?
I even selected one of the JPG files in LR grid view, then did a read of the metadata from a file. The upper left corner displayed that the metadata file was being loaded from XMP.  But again, no geotagged information. If I load that same .xmp file back into PhotoLinker it shows the geotagged data still there.
What gives?  Why is this happening?
    What I am using...
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    PhotoLinker 2.2.9
    Lightroom 3.4.1

Thanks for the response and answer, Ian.
That strikes me as really odd. I realize that jpgs can have metadata within the image file and maybe the issue for LR is which does it consider to have priority. However, if so, why not present a dialog asking the user?
I would suggest Adobe plan on filling the gapping hole LR has when it comes to geotagging support. It currently provides very minimal support.

  • LR4 Importing random jpeg and raw

I've had LR 4 for a week now and have a serious problem with the import.
I am usually shooting raw+jpeg so I quickly can send my clients some of the photos on location.
When I get to my office and start importing from the memory card the first 200 images or so will work fine, and show up in LR as raw+jpeg.
After that LR starts importing some of the files as jpeg only - seems to be completely random.
The biggest problem is that earlier both jpeg and raw would be copied to the library. Now that's not happening. If a file is imported as jpeg it is not copied to the hard drive.
They're just gone - and I deleted the memory card for another job before I found out about this. Nothing to be done about that, and luckily I still have enough shots to get the job done.
I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem.
    I'm using a 5dMKII and a 7d - same happens with both cameras.
I use an iMac with OSX Lion.

I'm having the same problem, and I'm curious to see if there will be a solution. I am also working with a 5dMKII and OSX Lion on a MacBook Pro.

  • Shooting in Raw and JPEG

    Hi,
I am really new to Elements, and am having trouble using the Editor!
My camera shoots in Raw and JPEG (Sony A100), so I have to go through one by one and delete the JPEGs after uploading. I have looked at all of the Help function in Elements, and can't find a way to delete the JPEGs as I upload them, without having to do it the long way!
Can anyone suggest a quick way around?
    Thanks v much

I tend to disagree with the statements about the Downloader. In terms of resources it consumes they are neglibible - 8Mbytes from total system memory of 1Gbyte in my case. They are not active until invoked.
I have found no easier way than using the Adobe Downloader once setup.
    1. Plug card into reader
    2. Click on Get Photos
It also allows me to choose which Adobe Program the download should be to.
I can't see that using Windows Explorer is more efficient.
    1. Open Explorer
    2. Set up Folder
    3. Drag and drop images from reader
    4. Startup Elements
    5. Get Photos
However, as always the choice is ours and should be whatever we're comfortable with.
