Shooting GreenScreen using P2 - FCP Workflow?

Hi all,
Okay then. I have a green screen shoot using the Panasonic HVX 200, and we are OFFLINE editing in FCP Studio 2. We will be shooting 720p @ 30fps
I am looking for a little reassurance that I am not setting myself up for a nightmare of incompatibilities.
I need to get the footage from the camera to a Hard Drive at the soundstage, then bring the HardDrive to my edit suite and import into FCP Studio 2.
I understand the import process from within FCP but beyond that, I need tips regarding workflow INCLUDING sending the project to an ONLINE facility where it will be edited using Flame/Smoke.
Any pointers, links, or just kind and reassuring words would be tremendously helpful.
Thanks a bunch,
Matt

DvcProHD100 bring in the cards, set them in a sequence to the appropriate length ie 30 min if HDSDI to HD130/150 or up to an hour using HD1200 or 1400. This should be done before the edit so you are using the same numbers as the flame/smoke artist.
the workflow for offline/online if the online machine cannot ingest P2 (DS,EQ,Flame/Smoke) is to import the footage layoff to tape, reingest , cut, make ref movie clean up sequence for edl prep and export EDL. I've used Automatic duck successfully for 29.97 and 59.94 exporting for DS as a project. footage aquired at 23.98 becomes 59.94 on reingest with pulldown in place cause the frame flags are lost going out to tape. Maybe the IO HD having an LTC out will allow the tape machine to see UB coming at it and finally be able to preserve frame flags

  • Projecting Super 8 and shooting for use in FCP

We have some Super 8 footage which to save costs, are going to project on a wall to shoot using a HVR-V1E, in HDV, to match the project it's being used in.
Just wondering if there are any tips/things to consider for optimum results when doing this.
    Any advice welcome
    Cheers
    Hugh

Not going to look too good... problem is frame rates. You shoot 24 or 30 with HDV... problem is that the frame rate of super 8 is neither of these... (not sure but I think it's 18fps) You really need to transfer to video via a telecine for any sort of result that will be truly acceptable (unless the look you're after is bad of course). There are places around that do this and it's not all that expensive. In the old days, we used to use a consumer device that gave an OK transfer as long as we used tubed cameras... they aren't made anymore. They had a lag and would smooth out the frame rate problems. Big cheap vidicon cameras... but today's cameras don't exhibit this lag and so.... I doubt it will look very good.
Hey if this was easy and cheap, everyone would be doing it, right?

  • AVCHD lite to FCP workflow

I'm using a Panasonic DMC-TS2 camera to shoot AVCHD lite video. I need to get this video into Final Cut Pro (version 5.1.4) to edit. I'm using OS X 10.5.8 and have iMovie 8. I've looked into various transcoders so that I can get the .mts files into my Mac (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo), including Handbrake, Mpeg Streamclip, Voltaic, and various ones of the seemingly million options. At this point I can't use iMovie as Panasonic suggests, since I don't have version 9. To upgrade to that I need to upgrade my OS, and the snowball effect begins...Even more frustrating, my lovely husband who uses a PC was able to load videos on his computer no problem (of course, couldn't change them to a format that I could use in FCP).
Before I start upgrading and buying new programs, has anyone found a current and good workflow for AVCHD lite to FCP? (Many of the posts I read on online forums are dated prior to 2010).
    Thanks.

ClipWrap has a very good reputation and should do the trick. I've used it and it does a great job. Try the trial download and see if it works for your media.
I prefer ClipWrap over anything you've listed. Handbrake is the wrong tool, that's for going the other way.

  • What is the proper Codec to use in FCP 7 with T3i footage?

I have a question regarding Codecs to use in FCP 7.
My footage comes from a Canon T3i or a Canon 5d.
I always encode/transcode my footage in Compressor before editing in FCP.
I have been using ProRes 422 but doing some quick reading on Apple Documents ... I'm thinking that ProRes 422 might not be the highest quality possible.
I want to have the BEST looking footage I can.
Can someone help with which Compressor Codec I should be encoding to?
    thank you

ProRes 422 is fine. Yes, there are higher end ProRes codecs...HQ and 4444. But they won't garner any better results.  Your footage won't look any better if transcoded to ProREs HQ or 4444.  The biggest compression has already been done...when you shot and recorded as H.264.  Going to a higher ProRes format won't make it look any better than ProRes 422.
Saying that, lots of people shoot with the Canon DSLRs to H.264, and it all looks fine. I'm just saying that nothing will improve on the quality...higher ProRes won't make it better.
There...I've said that a good half dozen times now....hee hee.
Those formats...the higher end ones...are meant for higher end camera formats...ALEXA, RED, F5...the BIG guns.

  • Grassvalley Turbo iDDR to FCP workflow

Anybody have experience with a Grassvalley Turbo iDDR to FCP workflow. We need to bring recordings from the Turbo (all SD) into FCP, and finding it hard to get an export format from the Turbo that doesn't s**t itself when dropped onto the timeline in FCP.
    cheers

I do a lot of projection design with the iddr's and man, let me tell you, worst technology ever! Well, not worst but very clunky to be sure, but gets the job done I suppose.
Iddr --> Final Cut, we've used streamclip simply because it works. I believe (don't quote me) that the turbos do mpeg2 but in some proprietary way. I know that anything you throw into the iddr that is pristine going in, gets mashed about by the turbo into it's own playable mpeg-ish thing.
so, digital files from iddr -- mpeg streamclip -- final cut. But lately i've been simply having the ddr operator take the signal out from the ddr to final cut via a blackmagic intensity or mxo and recapturing it. clunky and not realistic if you don't have a ddr at your disposal, but better picture because of the signal coming out rather than another round of compress/decompress.
my thoughts, hope they are helpful.

  • Reccommendation for non-overkill MacPro for my FCP workflow

    Hey-
Looking for a reccommendation on minimal Mac Pro specs I need to pull off my FCP workflow.
So I’m working on a big HDSLR-heavy documentary project, using FCP 7. Guessing 75-80 total hours by the end of it. At least ¾ of the media is Apple Pro Res 422 LT, transcoded from 5D/7D shot 1080 30p AVCHD footage. Remaining majority is also 422LT, transcoded from AF100-shot 1080 30p AVCHD; remaining minority is SD-original tape capture & SD res quicktimes.
So it’s a lot of relatively beefy, digital original files living on 4 FW800-connected Gtech 2TB drives. I’ll probably have all drives up at anyone point, but not necessarily all the var. individual projects open all the time (it’s a web-only series focusing on 10 artists, so at least 10 individual projects.)
Currently using a 2.93 “Nehalem” Dual Quad Core Mac Pro with 12GBs of RAM for the project – and though I’ll I’ve really done with it is transcode and media manage thus far, and very little actual editing or exporting – don’t have any complaints about the machine.
Thing is, I’m getting kicked off this particular machine and need to buy another. I originally bought the 2.93 Nehalem to meet Avid Media Composer 5 specs – I know FCP7 specs are a lot less exacting, or at least a lot vaguer.
So big question is – do I really need 8 cores? Can I go for something more modest (read cheaper) and still get the same performance? I bought that Nehalem thru Apple Store refurbished and would love to do the same thing.
Check out this link for the current offerings (they change daily):
    http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/mac_pro?mco=MjEwNzU3Mzc
Let me know if I’m leaving anything out that’ll help.
    Sincerely,
    Nick

There is no reason to go deeper into debt than the work can support.
The current version of FCS is 32 bit - which means it can only address 4GB RAM. (1.5 for the system frameworks and 2.5 for the program directly). RAM beyond this amount will be useful when running other programs or when you run Motion. It will not have any effect on FCS.
Still, I beg to differ with my esteemed colleague, but extra cores can make a difference even in day to day use. If you multi-task (multiple apps open and active), the OS spreads the work across all available resources. More cores + more ram = more work accomplished. Whether this is a measurable speed increase over the course of a day or simply gives you more time to think is something only you could answer.
    Good luck,
    x

  • How to use SAP Business Workflow along with Interactive Adobe Form

    Hi Experts,
I am working on SAP Business Workflow since last couple of years.
Now i have got a new Project where client wants to use SAP Business Workflow along with Interactive Adobe Form.
I am new to Interactive Adobe Form and Portal thing and i really dont know from where to start.
We have one central system and 2 local systems. when we do create a Material document using adobe form workflow should trigger and notification should go to group of users who can approve or reject it, once they approve it document gets created in central system and replicated to 2 local system through ALE.
In the Local system they do extend the document to different plants, again workflow triggers and notification will go to Managers inbox for the approval.
Once the final approval done data should go and store in SAP.
Now here i have couple of Questions.
    1. In SAP R3 Business workflow when i execute the workitem from the inbox i do get the application screen ( i.e. MM01 MRP View ) , what is going to happen if the same case i have with Adobe form?? is it possible or do we have to design a adobe form and we will have to map the fields with backend application??
    2. Do i have to maintained 3 separate Org Structure for 3 different system or using UWL  i can manage the show
    3. Untill final submit is not done, where the application data is going to be, is there any kind of buffer that we will have to keep it or its there with XML file??
    Please help me out.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
    Manoj

    Hi Manoj,
Welcome to ADOBE Forms related Workflow Development. Well, here are my answers.
    1) You can go for either go for ISR based development or WD development with Adobe form. In both the cases you can achieve your requirement. Yes, you will have to design the Adobe form and bind the fields to backend.
    2) Am not clear or your System landscape to advice you in these regards.
    3) Until final Submit/Approval is done, the data can be stored in WORKFLOW CONTAINERS or XML FORM(If you go for ISR based Development).
    Hope this helps.

  • Create Multiple tasks for Single Item in List using state machine workflow in sharepoint

    Hi,
I want to create multiple create tasks for Single Item in List based on Assigned to column using state machine Workflow through visual studio
Here Assigned to column allows multiple users. so i have to create task for every user based on column .
I'm trying for this but i didn't got any solution
    Please provide solution for this.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to allow multiple users to approve.
There are some articles about creating parallel tasks in state machine workflow, you can have a look at them.

  • Upload a value in read-only field using Webservices or Workflow

Can you please let me know if is feasible to upload a value into a read-only field using webservices or workflow
If so, can you please provide an example?
    Thanks

Using WS, you cant update the field value, if it is set as "Read-Only" @ the object - Field definition level, but you can update that using WS if it is set as "Read-Only" @ the layout level. Same applicable to Workflows too

Hire a designer who knows how to use CS3.
Just make sure she understand video's unique color spaces and pixel aspect ratio requirements or you will be using those Apple applications to correct her mistakes.

  • Using loop in workflows

    Hi All,
Can any one help me how to use loop in workflow.
Initially i will send workitem to agents.
if the loop condition fails i need to send the workitem again to the agents.
    Thank you,
    Harsha

    Hi,
Just try it. Open the workflow builder, create a new workflow and enter a loop into it. It is really straightforward. You just need to enter the condition into the loop. Basically you need to check some value in the container. Let's say you have a container element APPROVED. If it has value X, the loop will end, etc.

  • Seeking a DVR Recommendation that I can use with FCP 5!!

I am looking to purchase a DVR, not a Tivo!! I was looking for someone who is currently using a DVR, that has Firewire out, that they are using in FCP to edit content to send to DVD. I am open to any any all suggestions!!
As always thanks in advance for your the courtesy of your to read and reply to my Post,
    Sebastian

Motion 2.0 was paired with FCP 5. Final Cut Studio 1 included both. When Apple switched to Intel processors, they released FCP 5.1 and Motion 2.1 as an Intel compatible "cross grade". FCS2 had FCP 6 and Motion 3. FCS3 is Motion 4 and FCP 7.

  • Convert vob files for use in FCP X

I need to convert VOB files for use in FCP X on my macbookpro in OS X Lion (10.7.5) I use Clipwrap to convert other formats, but it does not seem to accept VOB for conversion (or if it does, I have not figured out how). In searching the web, I've come across several products that tout themselves as the best, fastest, easiest VOB to Prores converters etc., some that advertise as "free" when actually only a watermarked trial version is free. I have no idea of the actual quality of any of these (some examples are Brorsoft video converter for Mac, and Acrok HD Video Converter...), and would like some input from folks w/ experience in these things before dropping $ on the problem.
In another thread on this site I read something about MPEG Streamclip, & something about needing to separately download an MPG2 converter for it w/ Lion or Mountain Lion - the process sounded confusing and I couldn't tell if it applied to my situation or not...
Thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed.

MpegStremclip is THE Swiss Army Knife, when it comes to conversion, a 100% reliable, it IS absolutely free (any download a dollar = Stefano would be a millionaire!), I dare to say it is THE most recommended 3d party tool in the editor community ....
How & why you need to install the mp2 plug-in does Signore Cinque explain in simple words on his website:
