Shooting HD CAM Offline DV PAL

I'm about to offline a job shooting on HD CAM and want to edit DV PAL for offlin e purposes
I've looked into using a Sony J-H3 HDCAM with optional firewire port.
The spec sheet tells me it's got a downconverter built in.
But just seeing if anyone has used this?
Matt

yes it works provided the option is installed on the deck. be aware that it behaves like dv thus only 2 channels of audio ch1 and ch2. Never used it in pal only NTSC so have no pal experience with it

  • 3 multicam shoot - one cam shot in NTSC, 2 others in PAL!

Ok so i go to make a multiclip in FCP7, 2 cams in PAL, 25fps, the other is ntsc 29.97 fps - frame rates have to match to make multicam - how can i remedy this? BOth shot using AVCHD and encoded as APPLE pro res 422
In log and transfer tool, is there a way to specify for it to convert 29fps to 25fps? how can i convert current clips to 29.97fps?
Ive only done a small amount (encoded) so can just edit old fashioned way what ive already done.
    ARGHHHH

If you used ProRes there will be minimal loss. Your other option is to use ClipWrap2 to rewrap it as a QuickTime file without transcoding it and taking that to Compressor to recompress to ProRes and change the frame rate. There might be a slight improvement. I'd be much more worried about having to change the frame rate. That's really hard to do well in software and depends a great deal on the content and the motion.

  • Panasonic High Definition Video Camera HC-X920 (PAL System)

I want to download files from the above camera.  I have shoot the clips in the highest definition (1080/50p).
When I go to load into Premiere Pro CS4 the only options I get, under the new sequence window are:
    AVCHD 1080p24 Anamorphic
    AVCHD 1080p24
    AVCHD 1080p25 Anamorphic
    AVCHD 1080p25
    AVCHD 1080p30
Is there an update to allow AVCHD 1080p50 to be loaded or is there a work around without loose of quality?
I am using version 4.2.1 on an iMac.
Looking forward to any help/advise on my problem.   I will not be in a position to reply to any questions for a couple of days.
    Best regards,
    Stephen Terry

    Thank you for your help.
I have looked at making a custom version.  But under the options of AVCHD 1080p anamorphic or square pixel there are only 23.976 or 25.00 or 29.97 frames per second.
But under AVCHD 720p there is the option of 50.00 frames per second but only square pixels.  If I use the 720p setting I am going to lose quality (I do not know if the Panasonic HC-X920 (PAL system) is anamorphic or square pixel).  What do you think?
To get AVCHD 1080p at 50 frames per second do I need to upgrade my Premiere Pro above the CS4 version?
    Best regards,

  • NTSC camera using in PAL region via projector

    Hi,
let me start off for apologising that this is probably a stupid question, but cant seem to get my head around it!!
ok, so i want to get a camcorder to use in the UK (prob hf10) and its almost half the price in the USA (depending on xchange rate! **** credit crunch!).
so...when i record video, i know it will be ok to import and export into FCE as NTSC. but when i show it, it will be via macbook into a projector. will this work? and can projectors display both ntsc and PAL material?
    thanks for all your help!

The latter is the problem. As I hit the capture button, the tape in the camera rolls, I can see (and hear) the PAL movie in the view finder and on the LCD screen of the camera, but the capture window stays black (though the frame counter works) and nothing is captured. (This is true whether I use an NTSC or PAL project set-up in Premiere). Again, I know there is a solution. I have done it before but forgot the necessary set-up steps in Premiere.

  • Help me capture stills from mov files of kodak camera created in pal format

I did not know the difference and saved movie files on my kodak digital camera as pal format - it was top of list - i need to capture some stills as single photos from those files. I have switched to NTSC format for future and will want to capture stills from movies in that format also
does anyone know if quicktime pro 7 will di what i want or what i need to reach my goal?

Even the free version of QT Player allows you to "copy" frames. These could be "pasted" into a new blank using any image editing software.
What ever frame is showing when you stop playback will be the one copied. More control by using the right left arrow keys.
The Pro upgrade can export a frame to many image formats. It doesn't matter that the format is PAL. NTSC and PAL are TV playback settings. Your computer doesn't care.

  • Tethered shooting - more camera controls?

It's great to be able to shoot tethered in Lightroom 3, but could more camera controls be included in the tethered panel? At the very least an image rotation tool would be useful; and controls for camera settings like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc would be great.
Right now I keep having to revert to the kludge method of using my camera's capture tool and having Lightroom auto-import the images from a watched folder when I need these controls.

I have the exact same problem using Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit dual-core system with 4G memory on an Acer laptop running Lightroom 4.2

  • Shooting Digital Camera Tethered

I am a photographer and need to shoot occassionally tethered to the computer via firewire cable. My main camera is a Kodak DCS 760 which was discontinued 3 years ago. I was in deep shock when I received my new MacBook Pro and discovered that the computer would not connect to the camera.
The host driver for shooting tethered is called Camera Manager. The last time the driver was updated was 4 years ago. Hoping for a solution I installed Parallels Desktop, Window's XP and the Window's version of Camera Manager. My thinking was that the Window's version was written to run on the Intel chip. That too was a no go.
Because Kodak no longer sells professional level digital cameras they have no plans for future driver updates. I am looking for options short of dumping the Kodak cameras for new Nikons or Canons. Anyone have any ideas?
Can anyone out there update Camera Manager for me? It should be possible. Even iPhoto can detect the camera and download files via the firewire cable. It just won't let me shoot tethered so that the images pop up on the monitor as I shoot. Aperture supports tethered shooting but only through a host software such as Camera Manager. Lightroom? Does not support Kodak cameras.
My wife wishes to thank you in advance for your assistance. She is not looking forward to me spending the family fortune updating my cameras.

You were in deep shock when you discovered that a new
computer produced by Apple didn't support third-party
software that hasn't been updated or supported for
four years because the third-party left that
    particular market?
Yep, I was deeply shocked. Had I known of the issue there is no doubt that I would have opted for a new camera and a used Powerbook. I would have postponed the purchase of the MacBook Pro until mid-2007. No sour grapes though. I am sure that I am going to love my MacBook Pro with the new camera!

  • Camera offline in capture window

    Hi
I'm using Premier Pro CS3 on Mac os 10.5.6 (G5 pro intel) I've followed the intstructions on http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb406205&sliceId=1 (and yes I know this is for windows but I have assumed the set-up details are the same. It was the only knowledge base answer I could find) and found the settings for the Sony DCR TRV-900e camera but it still says it's offline. I am using a firewire cable direct into the Mac from the DV in/out socket on the camera.
I am sure I've missed something but I can't work out what it is.
    Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Chris

Also with 'firewire' the software can control the camera.
I would try using a USB connection with iMovie but I can't find the lead and anyway the instructions from Adobe say it should work with the firewire lead.
I am waiting for a reply from Sony support and will post if it's of any interest when I get it.
    Cheers
    Chris

  • Tethered Shooting issue: Camera Control Bar disappears

When I start to shoot with the tethered capture bar, the bar disappears after 1-2 shots.
    It's not hidden - there's slight "artifacts" left on-screen.
    Example:
Before starting to shot tethered - see the bar properly displayed
Here's the problem - after taking a tethered shot, the bar disappears, except for the black square to the right of the menu bar (above the top right corner of the photo). That black square is actually the animated progress indicator that spins when processing a new photo.
When I pass the cursor over the black square, or over a few other completely hidden areas, the cursor changes to a hand to reposition the tether bar, it's just not visible.
Control-T  (hide/show tethered capture window) does not help.
Stopping & restarting tethered capture makes it visible again, until I take a photo.

  • Sony HDD SR45 video camera offline status

OK, I'm a newbie at this...
I bought a Sony Handycam camcorder and Premiere Pro CS3 software and need some direction getting started with the initial setup windows with the camera's specs. I can't seem to get Premiere Pro to recognize my camera even though I have properly connected the camera to my computer with the supplied cable. When I click File>Capture a window appears in which I'm supposed to make sure the camera is recognized by the software. In the check status window, it always says OFF Line.

I am not generalising against Wedding videographers at all.
It is just in Jims case...he happens to be one and has built his videography business around tape based MiniDV workflow that he can not see past.
(This is not about HD vs SD or price of cameras or type of camera)
Jim continually reiterates about MinIDV in a tape workflow being "best". Maybe he is saying it is "best for him" but it comes across as "best for everyone" because Jim says so... "I normally recommend..."
Obviously John T Smith agrees with him
    > have to agree with Jim... anything other than DV-AVI just isn't designed to be edited, and therefore won't edit well in Premiere
This statement, like Jims constant assertions in this regard are simply wrong and misleading. Why would Jim even consider other cameras if he truly believed what he is saying (eg. The Scarlet Camera, Pannys).
Point is....its not "best for me" and the work I do and I have no problem editing material other than DV-avi.
No wonder Premiere is considered by many Film Company/Organisations to be a Non Professional Editor when the actual Premiere Users have such limiting opinions of their NLE.
Thankfully there are others that have moved on.

  • No video when trying to capture PAL dv tape w/Sony HVR-V1U camera

    Hello there,
Im attempting to Log & Capture a DV tape with "DV SP PAL" content from a Sony HVR-V1U camera using an iLink FireWire.
I have deck control, timecode, and audio but no video. Instead I see bars for video w/the ominous "preview disabled" band. When I attempt "Capture Now," I receive the follwoing message "this operation could not be completed as there is no video." For Easy Setup, Im currently in "Format: PAL; Use: DV-PAL FireWire Basic" (ive other combinations, and again best I can get is deck control but no video).
The DV PAL tape plays fine in the camera's LCD screen. Also I had no issue capturing HDV NTSC tapes using the same Sony HVR-V1U camera.
I've checked my settings and the usual obvious stuff but no luck.
If anyone has any ideas on what Im doing wrong or things I could try it would be much appreciated.
    Many Thanks,
    Sam

are you sure this camera is fully pal compatible?  Some cameras/decks will play back certain formats but will not output via firewire.  Can you shoot PAL with this camera?  If not, I'd guess you can't use it to capture PAL via firewire.  Might check the camera manual.

  • How to capture a dv shot on an NTSC camcorder,  now played thru a PAL cam?

I borrowed a dv tape shot by someone else on their camcorder and am trying to capture the content in iMovie 6 by playing it through my videocam. Specifically, the tape was shot on a new Sony dv camcorder in NTSC format, but now running thru my older Sony dv handycam that I purchased in Europe and which is a PAL machine.
When I attempt to capture in iMovie 6 just a few frames are captured and then everything stops. I've set the menu on my camera to output in NTSC format but no luck.
I know it's not an iMovie problem because tapes I've shot on my own PAL camcorder are captured perfectly.
    Any suggestions for a workaround?
    Many thanks,
    Roger

Sorry, ...... borrow a NTSC cam.
Your cam is a PAL. Although, it has a NTSC output feature, in its guts it still remains a PAL cam. So, if you stick a NTSC filmed tape in it, it will play in black & white. No color, because it cannot read NTSC color coding. There is no workaround this. Your cam can export to NTSC, but cannot read from NTSC as almost none of PAL cams can. Except of universals, those have PAL/NTSC in/out. Expensive and uncommon.
I had the same problem while I was in Europe.
Borrow a different cam. All I can tell you.

  • Can I import both from NSTC and PAL cameras in one project?

    Hi there.
    I have a question.
I am going to start on a project, a music video, and import video footage recorded from a SONY HVR-Z7U in America, that is 29.97fps NSTC.
I'm also going to film in Europe, with a Canon HV30, that is PAL.
So I wonder if there will be any problems importing both HD NSTC and HD PAL footage to a project? Or how should I do.
I have already opened a 1080i30(60) HD project in CS4 and started playing with the NSTC footage. Is it correct?
    Thank you

Why not shoot a trial clip in PAL and test it in your project?

  • SONY HDR-PJ430V on Premiere - camera shows ''offline''

I am under Mac OS X 10.8.5 (Mountain Lion latest update).
As I had issues with my ''old'' Canon Vixia HV30 (tape-based) under CS6 (no way to capture without crashing...), I slowly switched to Final Cut Pro.
Now with a brand new cam, the SONY HDR-PJ430V, I am trying to get back to Premiere, but my 3 trials faced the same issue: no matter which format I choose to start a new project, either the program does not see the camera (''offline''), or may eventually crashes.
Any of you using that cam ? What are the settings you are using ?
Please note that under Final Cut Pro, the program ''sees'' the cam and can capture, soi I would guess it is not a matter of incompatibility with Mac...
Or is really the only way to go will be to first transfer on the Mac (maybe through Sony's app ?) and import within Premiere ?
I can capture with the SONY app... then import into Premiere.  But I'd rather go direct !...
(This is my first ''non-tape'' cam.... first reason for switching was ''time saving'' in capture...

  • White balance setup error on multi-camera shoot. Help!

On a three-camera shoot two cameras had white balance set to auto, one was misset to daylight. Footage was shot both exterior and interior. How do we (newbies) correct or minimize the damage in Premier Pro CS6 for this short class project if reshooting is not an option?
