Short grey horizontal lines?

My iPhone 5 was purchased less than a month ago. It has been great and of course I put it in a good, supportive case right after buying it... I love it!
EXCEPT... this morning I turned it on and there are short, grey horizontal lines at the very top of the screen. They do not interfere with the use of the touch screen, but they wont go away. I have tried restarting the phone and doing a hard reset and alas, they remain.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance of any advice of kind words!
Kate

  • Grey horizontal lines after dropping phone?

    I dropped my phone and when I picked it up there were and still are grey horizontal lines across the screen. I don't know how to fix it. Help? I looked it up online and somewhere it said that something could be wrong with the LCD? I have also tried resetting it and turning it off. Anything that could help would be great. Thanks!

    Your iPhone has a hardware issue from the drop.  The screen will need to be replaced.  Go to https://locate.apple.com/country to find service locations.

  • Confused about TM's 'grey' & 'purple' horizontal lines in timeline

    I have Lion OS 10.7
    Whenever I connect my LaCie external HD and click on TM, the Star Field timeline would show both Grey and Purple horizonal lines.
    Grey horizontal lines being TM's Snapshots
    Purple horizontal lines being my external HD
    I just downloaded software from the Apple and when I enter the Star Field, there are no grey horizontal lines.  If my LaCie is not connected, a pop up box says that my 'TM backup disk can't be found.'
    But, I have entered the Sar Field in the past without my LaCie connected and there used to show about a week of TM snapshots, all grey horizontal lines in the timeline.
    Has something changed?  Is TM snapshots still taking place when I am away from my external HD?
    Thanks for your help,

    You're saying you select Enter Time Machine from the menu bar and nothing happens? If so, proceed as below.
    Please try each of the steps below that you haven't already taken.
    Step 1
    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
    Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try again to enter Time Machine. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
    Step 2
    If you're backing up to an external hard drive attached to your Mac, open the backup volume in the Finder. You should see a folder with the name "Backups.backupdb". You should not see a file with a name ending in "sparsebundle". If you do see that, the backup was created over a network and can only be used that way.
    Step 3
    Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the backup drive in the pane on the left (not any of the volume icons below it.) At the bottom of the window, you should see this:
    Partition Map Scheme : GUID Partition Table
    If the partition scheme is anything else, the drive has to be repartitioned (with the loss of all data.)
    Step 4
    In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the Finder window open for now.
    Relaunch the Finder by selecting  ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar, then selecting Finder and pressing return. Your Finder settings will be lost.
    Try again to enter Time Machine. If you still can't, put back the file you moved to the Desktop, replacing the newer one that will have been created in its place.
    Otherwise, close the Finder window you opened and delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Recreate your Finder preferences.
    Step 5
    Boot in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime. Try again to enter Time Machine.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.

  • Ipod touch4 grey screen darkgrey horizontal lines

    well my ipod was in my backpack in the nice pocket with my phone then just like 2 hours later i took it out and the screen is grey and sometimes has darker grey horizontal lines i tried the reset stuff, tried pluggin it in to boot but nothing works! very frustrated just got it 3 weeks ago

    It's most likely nothing, espcially as it's not manifesting anywhere or any time else. My guess is that they're artifacts from resolution changes as your system boots.

  • Horizontal line on unlock in 9810

    I just bought a torch 9810 today, and after about 5 hours of usage, when I lock and then unlock the screen, a grey horizontal line appears for a maximum of a minute then starts to disappear. I tried removing the battery, resetting, and upgrading the OS. Nothing seems to work.

    Hi and Welcome to the Community!
    That does not sound good, but before we give up and recommend you go back for warranty evaluation, there's one thing more to try. When you upgraded the OS, did you do that "bare bones"? As in, leaving off all added apps and just putting on what was mandatory? While odd, it's possible that some add-on app (perhaps 3rd party) is doing this, so ruling that out would be one more step to take before you head in for warranty support.
    Good luck!

  • Horizontal lines on new PowerBook display

    Here is my experience with the new PowerBook display/horizontal lines issue. Please post any constructive advice you have that I can try - either to eliminate the problem or to pinpoint the cause more accurately.
    I used to own a 15" Powerbook from about 12 months ago, a 1.33GHz model. The display on this was fine. Much better, in terms of brightness and clarity, than my other HP & Dell Windows laptops. When the PowerBook was stolen, one of the main reasons for immediately buying a new replacement PowerBook was the superior display quality.
    At the start of November the replacement PowerBook arrived - a 15" hi-res 1.67GHz model. The faint grey horizontal lines covering the whole display were immediately visible. The display is substandard compared to both the previous PowerBook model and my Dell laptop.
    Apple Care telephone helpline suggested an NVRAM reset and a PMU reset. Neither of these made any difference.
    The PowerBook was then sent back for replacement and a week or so later the new replacement arrived. This also had exactly the same problems.
    Apple Care helpline this time said that they could not find any problems with the PowerBook and I should first try the PowerBook connected to an external monitor and secondly take it to an Apple Dealer to show the problem.
    I tried it on an external monitor, but unfortunately this is only an old Nokia 15" CRT monitor and though the lines appeared to not be there, the quality of the monitor makes the result inconclusive.
    Next up, I will take the PowerBook to the Apple Store. At the same time I have copied "Aqua Blue.bmp" onto my Dell laptop. With the two laptops side by side showing the same image, the defect in the PowerBook display is clearly visible. I hope to be able to take both machines to the Apple Store later this week. I will let the forum know the results...
    So, are there any other tips/advice from users as to other tests I can run or other methods to improve the issue?
    Many thanks!

    n2o2,
    I don't know what let you think that you will eventually receive an AluBook without stripe : Apple Care let you think that ???????.
    I have been reading the stripes topics each day since I ordered my new powerbook, late october. I did not see one single post proving that a "free line" 15" powerbook does exist.
    The real evidence would come from someone describing the difference between a "non affected" new powerbook sitting besides an affected one, coming from the same PB generation and with exactely the same LCD profile and screen / Colorsync settings.
    I did not see a single story like that among the hundred(s) of posts related to horizontal lines.
    I have read one post stating that the screen is "crystal clear" and "sharp". The one I received today could be described like that, but it displays those lines, except from the 8 or 10 upper rows of pixels on the menu bar.
    The pb15_problems.png file is a very interesting one to me, as it demonstrates that the lines could clearly be attenuated using a single filter without compromising the sharpness/Brightness of the image.
    If I compare side by side my 3months old previous generation powerbook and the new one, I must say that (except for the stripes) there is not much difference in daylight in terms of brightness but a perceptible better brightness in the complete darkness.
    Well, if someone could prove that some of the new powerbook do not display this "feature", this would certainly push me to return mine. But, seeing how it is difficult to get this organized, I may not want an exchange but a refund, or an upgrade for a 17".
    Please tell us quick if you win this battle.

Theres a grey and some times black thick horizontal line at the bottom of the screen, I cant see my programs at the bottom of the screen. Hello Armando
    Check out the article below for troubleshooting your issue with the display. There are a few things that can be done, like changing the resolution of the display and also to reset the NVRAM to see if that resolves that for you.

    Thanks for reply Carolyn,
    done the hardware test, no trouble found.
    The grey line persists, i think, from my observations in the last days, it becomes more and more visible (also thicker) while the temperature inside my iMac gets higher.
    When starting the iMac next day, the line is barely visible, still there, after some time it will get more and more visible till real annoying.
    Now what could this be? And what should/can i do? Ignore it? What if the problem gets bigger with time passing?

  • For every line item, I want to write horizontal line.

    Hello experts,
    In the main window of my sapscript form, I am displaying multiple line items. What I want to do is write a horizontal line so what I did is this:
    /: SIZE WIDTH '75.0' CH HEIGHT '0' LN
    /: BOX FRAME 10 TW
    /: POSITION YORIGIN +1 LN
    I was having a problem yesterday as to why my &ULINE& is always shorter than the width of my MAIN window. So I am currently experimenting with BOX statement. But the problem is, I want to write it after every end of a line item. I placed the code above where the original &ULINE& was placed(inside the main window).
    Hope to hear from you guys. Thank you and have a nice day to all!

  • White horizontal line on macbook pro retina display

    When I scroll through photos, sometimes a white horizontal line will span the screen for a short time. It will span the whole screen for less than a fraction of a second so it was difficult to take a photo of it. I managed to do it but here the line is only halfway across the photo I was looking at.
    Does anyone know what this line is and how I can avoid having it?

    Take the MBPr back to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs check it out while still under warranty...a graphics module problem will need their attention.

  • Horizontal line flicker on screen

    Lately I have noticed sometimes that I will see a horizontal line will flicker on the screen and then go away. Like when you turn on a screen and its adjusting because you just turned it on. But its been on the whole time. What to do?

    I've been seeing this for at least three or four months. I'm concerned because these things seem to get progressively worse, though at least until now I haven't noticed any increase in frequency or severity. Just as described above, a thin, grey looking, horizontal line will flash extremely briefly at a seemingly random vertical position on the screen. Sometimes it won't happen for a while, sometimes it will happen two or three times a day.
    I can't say for sure because it happens infrequently and I haven't been paying attention to it lately, but I want to say the lines only appear when I'm on the low-power 9400M graphics card, rather than the 9600M GT.

  • Re: gray horizontal line

    Gray horizontal line appears on any part of the screen when scrolling

    When I first saw that line on my original 20" iMac I thought it was another artifact of the screen controller on that machine that had a lot of problems (need to get it fixed now that I have my PB to fill in. However, I then saw the same line on my wife's 12" PB and now on my new 15". If you are seeing the same as I am (faint grey line dead center of the menu bar) then I think it is just part of the 3D effect in OSX.

  • Site won't follow CSS rule, horizontal line colour.

    Hi,
    I have made a CSS syle:-
    .hr {
      border:0;
      border-top: 1px solid #840017;
      height: 0;
      background: #840017;
    This makes a horizontal line to act as a break.  But in FF and IE it comes out grey and not claret (#840017)
    Any ideas what I have done wrong?
    page can be seen here
    http://www.thevillagers.co.uk/matchreports/1011/chinnor15holyport.html
    Thanks,

    .hr {
      border:0;
      border-top: 1px solid #840017;
      height: 0;
      background: #840017;
    This makes a horizontal line to act as a break.
    Unfortunately not.
    You've inadvertently defined a class of "hr" (which has no effect on the <hr> tag), rather than re-defining the format of the <hr> tag (which is your intention).
    Remove the leading period (full stop) from in front of the hr in the stylesheet to change it from a class="hr" to a tag selector <hr>.
    Change
    .hr
    to
    hr
    A subtle but important difference.
