Short pause between choosing a song and iTunes playing it

Hi there,
I recently swapped out my old hard drives in favour of four 10,000 rpm VelociRaptor drives in RAID0, to help with HD video editing and rendering.
Before I did so, I made a complete system backup using Carbon Copy Cloner, and also a Time Machine backup.
Needless to say, the Carbon Copy Cloner backup was somehow corrupted, so I had to resort to do a full system restore using Time Machine.
The system's back up, and has been fine so far except for a few preference file crashes related to Final Cut Pro.
However, one little annoyance I have is, there is about a full second or two of lag between me double-clicking a song to play in iTunes, and it actually playing it.
I didn't have this problem before, and you would have thought that with 4 x 10,000 rpm, latency would be a thing of the past.
When creating the RAID0, I had left the block size at default (32K). Not sure if that would make a difference, but I thought I'd keep it the same value as I had when I backed up my system.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Cheers,

HAHA!
Oh god I feel stupid.
I was sending the audio out to an Airport Express as well as the Mac's speakers. There was indeed a buffer delay, but turning that off fixed the issue.

  • Why IPod skips songs and ITunes plays them

I loaded the songs from CD and have played them several times over 2 or 3 years.  Recently, I tried to play them on my IPod Classic and they just skip to the next track.  I have restored my IPod and reloaded it.  Still, the songs won't play.

Is it only a particular group or tracks or just any of your tracks loaded from CD at random?
It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

  • I preordered the One Direction FOUR album deluxe and they have been releasing songs and itunes says i need to purchase them

i preordered the One Direction FOUR album deluxe and they have been releasing songs and itunes says i need to purchase them

The standard process for pre-orders is that you're not charged at the time, but as and when individual tracks are released these are charged at the standard single rate and when the full album is released you pay the balance between what you've paid so far and the full album price.
Has your previous payment method expired or been removed since you registered the pre-order?

  • HT3819 What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

What's the difference, other than the 24.99, between Home Sharing (free) and iTunes Match (24.99)?

Home sharing allows you to share content between computers and devices on your wifi network - so if you have your library on your computer's iTunes and you want to access it on your iPad then both your computer and iPad have to be turned on, iTunes open on your computer, and both need to be connected to the same wifi network.
iTunes Match will upload your music library to the cloud (including music copied from CDs and from other sources) allowing you to accces it from your computer or iPad without requiring your main computer to be on - and if you have access to a network when not at home you can download or stream music from it. It's also acts as a second backup of your content (you should still maintain your own backup of your library).
    iTunes Match, from http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/ :
Once your music is in iCloud, you can play it from any of your devices. Just browse the complete list of all your music stored in the cloud and tap to play to it. You can store up to 25,000 songs in iCloud (more if songs are purchased from the iTunes Store), but only what you play or download is stored on your device. Tap the iCloud download button to download music from an artist, album, or playlist. So you have immediate access to a huge music library without having to worry about the storage space on your device.
But whether it's worth it only you will know. Personally I don't use it, I keep and maintain my own backup of my content and sync it to my devices so that I don't have to rely on being online to access what I might want to listen to,

I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

If just one song on an album is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

after finish installing an update, the the status light keeps blinking and a picture of the connection between the micro USB and iTunes shows up - what is this about?

The update failed - using a USB to microUSB lead (that Apple annoyingly don't include!), try to restore the AppleTV software to current version software using instructions here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4367
Pay attention to differences in power connection depending on whether or not you have AppleTV2 or AppleTV 3.

  • When I try to play a song on Itunes, it has an explanation point next to every song and wont play.

When I try to play a song on Itunes, it has an explanation point next to every song and wont play.

The usual reason for missing files is that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes.
When you get things fixed make a backup.

  • Accidentally erased songs and ITunes ignoring iPod

Not knowing very much on how to work computers and such i made a very big mistake. A couple of years ago i got my iPod, i installed iTunes into my computer (windows), works out perfect no problems, songs are still in the library at this very moment. I just got a laptop and i installed itunes into it too (hoping to transfer all the songs there from the first computer) that went well too, except when i connected the ipod to the laptop it asked something weird like "switch the library songs to the ones you currently have" or something like that and within seconds all the songs from the ipod are GONE! I then go to hook the iPod up to the main computer hoping to replace the songs and iTunes won't recognize that the iPod is hooked up.
If anyone can offer any advice on how to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks
    iPod Third Generation   Windows XP

    Melissa,
Is the laptop you purchased a Mac or Windows machine?
If it's a Mac, that explains why the original computer doesn't recognize the iPod any longer.
As for returning your music, try restoring using the iPod Updater--on the original computer. Then reload your music from iTunes.
If all goes well, switch your iPod to manual update, instead of automatic.

  • HT1725 I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down.

I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down. It says I've purchased a song but it isn't in my purchased playlist, but it charged me for it. How do I get the song, or get my money back?

You've tried the Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option on your computer's iTunes, and does it show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes ?
If not then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Discrepancy between playlist on iPod and iTunes

**reposting this here as I don't think this problem is specific to iPod Classic**
I've selected all the music I want and put it into a playlist in iTunes. This list contains 16127 items and is 145.79GB (so, within the capacity of the iPod classic). I now want this music to copy, via sync, to my device. The problem is that it doesn't seem to believe the playlist is as big as it is. Whenever I go to "Music > Sync Music > Selected playlists > [my playlist]", "16082 songs" appears next to "sync music". If I do a full sync, which takes a while, obviously MOST of the music copies. But 55 items are missing somewhere. Weirdly, if I look at the playlist as it appears on the iPod (under "Devices"), rather than in iTunes, it is shown there as containing only 16082 items as well.
Since the list is so big, it's not practical to scroll through and compare both to find what is missing.
But does anyone have any idea what is causing this problem? How could I fix it?
To be clear, here is what I see in the status bar when I click on the playlist in iTunes:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ly1rn982vl2s5is/Screenshot%202014-05-28%2002.51.30.png
And this is what appears when I tell it to sync with the iPod:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1lyvspyagkbrhls/Screenshot%202014-05-28%2002.51.58.png

There are a few reasons why this might happen.
You could create a Smart Playlist in iTunes that includes anything not in your iPod Playlists. It would look like this:
and it should have all the missing items.
Note my use of the word "items". You may find that the missing items are:
    Podcasts
Unticked items. Notice that my Smart Playlist does not have the "match only ticked items" turned on. So the Playlist will includes items that are not ticked. You may have put unticked items into your "iPod" Playlist, but if you have Sync only ticked songs and videos checked (turned on) then those unticked items would be in the Playlist but not on the iPod itself.
    So start with the above.
What is in the Smart Playlist? Are they Podcasts or are they all unticked?
Alternatively, is there anything else common about the missing items?

  • HT3702 how can i get rid of the link between my credit card and itunes?

i initially linked my credit card to my itunes account as i thought it would be easier to download songs. but now whenever i go to update an app on my phone it tells me i need to support billing details so i re enter them and it tells me that i am wrong and i cant update my apps? even when they are free?
is this because there is no money in my account or what? and how do i get rid of the assosiation with my card and itunes?

You have to create a new Apple ID by following the steps in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2534.

  • Just purchased song, and itunes has eaten my credit and crashed.

I have just added a gift voucer to my itunes account, I purchased an album, and Itunes downloaded the first three songs, An error message appeared saying the connection had timed out (i have read other posts about this message !) Itunes then hung, I had to force quit the appliction. When I started Itunes again it took me to the store and asked if I wanted to download my album, I said yes,
In my 'purchased' folder I can see the three songs that itunes downloaded but not the other 10 on the album, My account has been debited the full amount for the full album !
When I click to view my purchased itunes network connection times out again,
Will I get the songs that I have paid for ?
    Thanks
    Leigh

I am having the same problem. I just kept hitting the button again if there was an error. Eventually I was able to report my problem. I bet alot of people are having trouble today. It is irritating since I am trying to download over 400 songs.
