Short term lock server issue
Hi,
I have installed MSA and the workbench (4.0 SP 12) locally on my laptop. When I try to start the Mobile Workbench I get the error "unable to initialize short term lock server". Does anybody have an idea why? I have ensured that the repository ID is in synch but I still get the issue.

Thanks for the hint. It is a bit strange. I found out that the SAP MAR service uses port 1002 in my case. If I put that in the ars_systable, I can't restart the service. It tells me the port is busy. If I update ars_systable after starting the service, it works.

How to display a short term lock in a view?
Hello,
I discovered recently the two checkin/checkout modes in sharepoint.
The long term ckeckout that the user choose explicitly to have and the short term check out when the user open an office document for modification.

The short term checkout is perfect for my client needs. He doesn't want to checkout a document every time he opens it + a lot of user doesn't understand why to check-in a document when they have done their works.
Here is my problem: I would like to display the short term lock in my document library the same way the long term lock information is displayed.
By code I'm able to see who has acquired the lock and if it is a short term or long term lock:
SPFile.SPCheckOutStatus
The column "CheckedOutBy" in by document library does not display anything for the short term lock. The document icon is not change to display a lock on it.
So I'm searching for an idea, how to be able to display this information in my view?

Theoretically you can do the following:
Create a custom web service based on the object model to get the value of vti_sourcecontrollockexpires metadata of a file remotely.
Create a custom field that display the information in edit and display view based on the of vti_sourcecontrollockexpires metadata using the object model in a label. Create a RenderPattern for the list view that contains a JavaScript block that calls your custom web service to display the short lock information.

Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues
Hi all
I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
The error messages are :
"Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.

Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.

I was able to create the project fine and was able to activate the session, no issues. But when I tried to update the queue name or delete the project itself, this error gets thrown:
[ConfigFwk:390105]Unable to create WLS change list due to a short term automatic lock obtained by user null. The user has no pending changes and the lock will expire in 600 seconds. Please try again after the lock has expired.
Retrying after those seconds takes me back to the same error but the time get's reset to 600 sec.
I can change the code in that project and activate the session without any issues but if I change any configuration for proxy/business services or delete the project itself, i get this error. the only way to get around this issue is to clone the project and make changes to the cloned project. But, that is not the solution i am looking for as I don't want to keep a old version of the project and don't want to keep creating new queues everytime (since no two proxies can point to the same queue).
Oh, and this happens only with the projects which deal with JMS queues.

Backup system aimed at short term small local backups
I was wondered if there are any backup systems aimed at short term backups for usually small changes. A few times in the past I've done boneheaded things to a single or just a few files and OS X's Time Machine has been amazingly helpful here.
If I go Google'ing for backup solutions what i find are solutions aimed at locking large amounts data in cold storage at a remote location for all eternity in case of a hardware failure or a datacenter burning down. Those systems obviously have their place and I do use one (or well, I'm working on learning to use it effectively) but what I'd also like is something that addresses problems that exist between the chair and the keyboard. Is there a good way to have a sort of "undo button" for the last few second to an hour? I'd be plenty happy to trade hard disk access speed for this ability.
As an example, Vim's recent persistent undo feature is something that I've found incredibly useful (although I do worry that I'm starting to rely on it as a crude version control system).

I've used lots. rdiff-backup and rsnapshot used to be good - they're mostly the same, just one pulls backup to a central server (rsnapshot) while the other runs on each client and pushes to your backup location (rdiff-backup). Each has it's place. Back-in-time -- eh, I'm not a fan of GUI backups. Duplicity was too complicated for backups (personal preference, I don't need 90% of what it is capable of). Dar doesn't really seem to provide much over tarballs. Obnam was quite good, but I ended up with attic which seemed 'cleaner'. Bacula is wayyyy too complicated. I'm rather fond of urBackup for certain environments, particularly ones with Windows laptops.

This is the one thing I keep showing people about attic that is damn impressive. I'm backing up a Synology NAS (over CIFS) using attic. The data is our design department. Here are the stats for our last backup:

I do not need to repeat the issues that this community is identifying. I am impressed by the astute observations and good ideas that are coming from this group. While 6.0 may be a decent program for the casual user, the problems caused for professional users is profound.
I am not sure whether Apple's audiences is us anymore---the presentation professionals, and the uber-users. IF their market is not the amateur, then we may find the end of very good era, where there was a powerful tool for persuasion and storytelling. As a professional, I have moved organizations from PowerPoint to Keynote, but for the first time, are having them reconsider. While those working on a MAC can continue to use 5.3, those recently purchasing an iPad have no choice. That lack of choice is Apple's greatest insult, and I am recommend that those who agree with the text below send feedback to allow the iPad (like the MACs) keep both, and allow those with recent iPad purchases to download 5.3 (at least until the problems are remedied).
While I understand the need to make a product that works across a number of devices, the removal of 5.3 (on the iPad) has created problems with horrid financial and business consequences for many of us.
Some of the problems that I am encountering:
6.0 will not create a presentation that can be opened in 5.3, either on my computer or a client computer. (My large corporate clients are NOT going to upgrade for a while, so work I (or anyone else) would create for them on 6.0 cannot be used.. It would be suicide for me to insist that my client's IT department upgrade a product across their organization. I cannot also open anything created on the iPad, so Keynote as a creation tool on the iPad is useless.
6.0 removed features and corrupts the showing of 5.3 presentations---fonts are unavailable and corrupted, some moves are not supported, actual content displays are changed. Therefore programs look terrible if created on 5.3 and converted
6.0 automatically upgrades (without any warning) any 5.3 presentation opened if both 5.3 and 6.0 are on the MAC. If both 6.0 and 5.3 are loaded, clicking any file will open and convert it. The only option is to make sure that the file is opened via OPEN AS, but if the file is accidentally clicked, the file will be forever lost t 6.0.
There is not away to globally set 5.3 as the default option (it is supposed to work on the folder level but is broken).
Since many of us have 100s of active presentations on our computers, and since many with features are no longer supported by 6.0, it would be a mistake to upgrade to 6.0 while there still exists the problem of accidentally converting when clicking on a file.
I understand that these problems may be addressed, but it could weeks.
A recommended easy fix....
We all recommend to the engineering department to let people put 5.3 back on the iPad, at least until the fixes can be made to 6.0.
Put a SAVE AS 5.3 function on 6.0, especially on the iPad
Fix the bug that does not allow CHANGE ALL to default the opening to 5.3
Talk to national leaders (there are a few hundred) in presentations, to create a program that as good or even better than 5.3.
Again, my suggestion for a short term fix would be reinstating the ability to use 5.3 until the fixes are addressed and full featires are restored. Give us, the user, the option of which one to use. If you agree, pehaps we can get some traction by sending this recommendation as feedback.
By the way, do you realize that KEYNOTE is not even listed in Apple's pulldown menu of products..... our favorite product is considereed an "other."Thank you Keith for your information.
In this case I am not worried about the origin of the idea and some compensation to the creator. If this modification will lead to happier costumers of Apple and more efficient use of material and thus better for the environment (as Apple claim they are always improving ) then I am satisfied.
It is good that Apple has this Policy and I agree that they can use any idea submission to them as their own. This Idea is so basic and easy to carry out that I believe that many others have thought of it.
Sometimes it can be good to get a pair of extra eyes or brain to spot were you can improve.

My company has several clients (publishers and libraries) that use the Adobe Content Server and Adobe Digital Editions. I would like to Know if Adobe will release new versions of these products in the short term. Our customers are asking us for new features that might be interesting for new versions of these products.
Adobe Content Server:
- Possibility of eBooks streaming (for sale and lending of ebooks), to view the eBooks in the browser (online and offline).
- Facilitate the process of acquisition and eBooks loans so that the user is not registered 2 times. (On the platform and adobe)
Adobe Digital Editions:
- Become a air application to be multiplatform
- Text to speech in epubs with Dtbooks
What other improvements to propose to adobe?

Here is the output of part of my thread dump on Linux with WLS 10.3.4 on JRockit on startup. The server is not hung up at all. Make a request on the server and take another thread dump and you'll see the lock change.

Short term Production/Inventory Changes feed to S&OP
Hi all,
We all understand that S&OP is long term planning with monthly cycle and results of S&OP will feed to my short term planning /detail scheduling.
The issue that I am having is, how we can get the short term production/manufacturing changes feedback S&OP. Should we allow S&OP Supply Plan keep changing it based on changes to Production/Manufacturing ?
Within our S&OP process we start to plan supply planning on 20th of this month for next month onwards plan. But my Inventory/production might change for current month after 20th as well and that will affect my plan for next month. Should I allow that changes to get into S&OP and allow my supply situation changes accordingly?
Any thoughts based on what we had seen at other customer/industry?

We are considering buying an iPad 2. We will be traveling in Scandinavia and the Baltic area for five weeks this summer, staying in short-term rental apartments that all have free wifi. Livecache lock server not accessible after system refresh
Hello,
I have performed a refresh of SCM + livecache from production to QA when starting the livacache from LC10 i get a message Livecache lock server not accessible. The livecache is started but when i look at the status there is a warning SQL access not possible.
I did an export of the config table and reimport and the server named are correctly defined for:
LCA
LDA
LEA
From the administration report of LCA
Initialize livecache
Follow-up Processing: /SAPAPO/DELETE_LC_ANCHORS
Start Livecache
Follow-up Processing: SLCA_LCK_SYNCHOWNERS
By running those program in se38
SLCA_LCK_SYNCHOWNERS (Livecache lock server not accessible)
SLCA_NON_LC_RELEVANT_CLIENT (Could not create a connection to livecache)
I checked and the relevant client is selected.
When i check the alert monitor from livecache - lca - connectivity - dbmrfc and native sql is in red with the following message:
SQL Statement Execution Instance Online, but no SQL access possible.
Also from SM21 i have errors saying Database error -4025 at CON
Let me know if you already encountered this issue and how it was resolved.

1. Connect. test with "dbmcli db_state" Successful
2. Connect. test with command mode "dbmrfc db_state" Successful
3. Connect. test with session mode "dbmrfc db_state" Successful
4. Connect. test with "native SQL" ( LCA ) No connection

How to detect "Overload of Lock Server"
Hello,
how knows a possibility how to trace or detect an overload of lock server.
Problem is that the users get this message but we can not detect when this issue comes up.

To configure thread detection behavior:
If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit.
In the left pane of the console, expand Environment > Servers.
On the Summary of Servers page, select the server instance for which you will configure overload condition parameters.
On the Configuration > Overload tab, update as necessary:
Shared Capacity For Work Managers -- Total number of requests that can be present in the server..
Failure Action -- Specifies the action taken should a server instance detect a failed state.
Panic Action -- Specifies that action taken should a server instance detect a panic condition.
Free Memory Percent High Threshold: -- Percentage free memory after which the server overload condition is cleared.
Free Memory Percent Low Threshold: -- Percentage free memory below which the server is considered overloaded.
For more information about overload conditions, see Configuration Options.
Click Save.
To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediatelyu2014some require a restart.

Help!Electronic noises,server issues,console messages,ethernet -PowerPC G4
I've been searching the internet as well as the Console and Activity Monitor for answers to this scenario, and it looks as though there is some kind of relationship between recent strange sounds I have been hearing over my speakers and server issues (my IP? Apple servers? spyware? )
Immediately below, are some of the log messages I have copied (for terminology examples).
Below them will be the description of the sounds I've been hearing, and potentially related details.
The first of the log examples documents something that happened when no one was home to use the computer. The second describes some kind of process that might be suspicious. The third describes what is happening a lot lately, and it seems to correspond with the sounds I referred to as well as with simultaneous increases in network activity shown on the Activity Monitor

I have recently been getting both a tapping and a buzzing sound through my speakers. Both kinds of sounds come together, intermittently and repeatedly, and each time, the volume rises, peaks, and fades away again (or stays faint until it starts to rise again). Today, once, there was a squeal-ish sound (not like a fax) as well, paralleling the other sound. These episodes vary in duration.
The Activity Monitor has shown increases in the Network window when these sounds have occurred, but I don't remember whether the greater increases were incoming or outgoing--I think, incoming.
When this first started happening, I was also seeing a lot of "Network Transition Occurred" messages in the log. Now I am seeing mostly "Macintosh mDNSResponder: Couldn't read user-specified Computer Name; using default "Macintosh-000000000000” (or “Macintosh-00112474A206)” instead" messages.
It all started happening after I uninstalled a trial version of ProtectMac (at the end of March), as well as set up a separate log-in for my grandson to use (major changes for the first time in years, which also caused me to lose a lot of things like bookmarks, saved music in iTunes, home movies in camera related software, pictures in iPhoto, etc...). Somewhere along the line I also lost iSync and just left it off.
Are these noises servers trying to communicate with my computer, which I somehow happen to be hearing as transmitted static/feedback/or signaling?
I have a 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4. I use a DSL, ethernet.

What are the pros and cons of using tape (VTL) for short-term backups in DPM 2012 R2?
The reason this might be an option is that we are using a Virtual Tape Library (EMC DataDomain) which provides great deduplication rates.Hi,
I don't see any real cons except that the virtual tapes cannot be taken offsite, however that VTL does allow for replication to another DD VTL offsite, so that is a good option if $ is not a problem.
As mentioned, it does do dedupe, so if you backup the same data you get incredible dedup savings. Speed and reliability are other pro's for VTL since dirty tape drives are no longer an issue.

Short term tape based protection
hi,
I am taking short term protection using tape for file server. and retention period is 2 weeks. so it is weekly full backup (which is defined in short term protection)
i can see that after 7 days it is taking new tape for full backup and for incremental backup.
i want to minimize usage of tapes. how can i do that? since a lots of space is wasted on tape.

Short-term tape "full and incremental" option
The full backup will require a free tape for each scheduled job, and the incremental backup for all data sources will be appended to a single separate tape.
As tapes fill up, new free tapes will be allocated.
When the next full backup occurs, it will require another free tape, and subsequent incremental backups will be appended to another free tape.
