Short url options for iweb '08 & godaddy HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

I have a new website up. I used iweb 08 and Godaddy. I just want the name only. I want this to show up ---->Example www.sitename.com and the then according pages to follow. Example www.sitename.com/media, www.sitename.com/store, www.sitename.com/shirts, etc. Is there any possible way to make my site have the short url without to much complication? I have searched high and low and most iweb users have the long url. Is this worth the time to figure out. I dont really care about RSS or anything like that. Any answers will be greatly appreciated!!!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you only want the domain name to show up then you'll have to use the URL domain name forwarding with masking. This is how I setup my tutorial site, toadstutorials.info, with GoDaddy:
If you set up the domain name forwarding using CNAME you'll have to remove that type of forwarding and redo it with the standard URL forwarding. Here are some pages on the subject that will be of some help:

  • What are our options for iWeb sites, in relation to iCloud? Is Apple dropping this type of hosting service?

My husband and I have relied upon iWeb for our web sites for years....what now?
Apple needs to address this issue soon! What are our options now, Apple, with iCloud?

Great. Now really, what about iWeb Steve? http://twitpic.com/583j3k
But seriously, it seems like many people are just trying to seed these discussions (about how upset people are over the unknown fate of iWeb) with suggestions such as; Try this or that web site building alternative, or Apple isn't obligated to you, or "you can easily publish your site to another server" blah, blah, blah. The fact is, thousands of people (or more) have learned to count on iWeb and Apple's one click publishing AND hosting to make their web sites. They have learned to make great looking web sites quickly with iWeb. They like iWeb. Some of us have used it for years. Apple is likely pulling the rug out from under ALL of these people. Many Sites, Blogs, Podcasts, Business Sites etc. will now simply cease to be if Apple stops supporting iWeb during the transition to "iCloud".
The most frustrating thing of all is that Apple has not (as of yet) even said one thing about what will happen to all of the web sites already created with iWeb. They are just ignoring it so far. They have only given the press releases about MobileMe going away. It is rude in my opinion. Trying to "spin" the dialog about it now is not what is needed. I agree that Apple needs to answer the many legitimate concerns all the iWeb users are raising. And the sooner the better.

  • New Qos and Firewalls URL Options for gamers for Win10

This is more of a gamer thing.
I'm wondering if there's a way to implement URLs ( instead of IPs ) with ports into Firewalls and QoS? Naturally I don't want to open ports for all IPs and determining all IPs for some sites, when there exist are multiple worlds, can't always be determined.
It would be nice to say, for all *.SomeGame.com allow this port to be open.
Additionally, if this rule is active, give it higher priority than video or voice....
I have seen some gamer systems where their router and firewall have an open port for their games :\ Also, usually most gamers will have Skype/Twitch/Netflix/Hulu open whilst gaming. Naturally, they don't want lag for their games, and would prefer their gaming
to have priority over any voice or video.

You do not need to setup anything like that in any windows for gaming application...even if I running torrent + dc++ client I have no lags or freezes so on. So if you want to setup QoS just find appropriate guide for specific application. And
btw URL's doesn't match game server IP's & port's ranges, so it is never been released under QoS development. Cause QoS is about how to manage your existing LAN bandwidth for applications on your OS installation.

  • Does Mac Mail's "Quick Look URL" option for links prevent software from being downloaded onto my computer?

I received an e-mail from a friend that had a suspicious looking link embedded in it. I did not navigate to the link in my web browser but I did do a "quick look" in Mac Mail. Does this open me up to any vulnerability? If so, is there a way to check to see if any malicious software and/or viruses were downloaded onto my MacBook?
    Thanks!

    Hi Dave,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
It's possible (more likely the drive is dead) that the drive's directory is damaged. If that's the case, Disk Warrior may be able to fix it. At $80US for Disk Warrior, I'd be more inclined to replace the drive. If your patient and can wield a few small tools, you can replace it yourself.

  • Slideshow option for iWeb.

    Hello, all.
Anyone knows if there is a away to create a slideshow in iWeb with slides moving sideways as in several other popular websites such as Yahoo ?
The slide is set to a large size taking almost the entire width of the website or page, and has arrows or triangles on both sides so that one can click on them and either move forward to the next slide or backward to the previous one.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks.

There are a number of methods. The the examples on these demo pages:
Jalbum Examples - Jalbum offers over 100 themes/skins, one of which should meet your needs. It's free and can be found here: Jalbum.
    SimpleViewer and Flash Album Exporter
Flash Album Exporter Postcard and AutoViewer Slideshow Themes
iWeb has a slideshow that you can use. It's associated with a Photo page or an Album page. You can hid the photo/album pages you don't want to have in the site and only show the slideshow photo grid page like on this demo page: PhotoGrid .

  • IWeb short URL "trick"

I've been reading a number of posts about how to arrive at a shorter URL for iWeb sites; many seem to involve either using some other site or registering a domain name - I administrate five already, I don' need no more steenkin' domains. Anyway,... I came up with the following "trick"; alright, so it's not much of a trick, but it seems to work for me. For those used to short URL's like:
    http://homepage.mac.com/membername/
as your "site", you CAN have:
    http://web.mac.com/membername/
if you publish to a folder instead of letting iWeb publish to .Mac on its own. On your iDisk, you'll find a "Sites" folder which represents your HomePage sites, and a "Web" folder which represents your iWeb sites. For my test, I published to a folder called "iWeb" (didn't matter - could have been "foo") and gave it the "short" URL as a reference (not that it needed it; it was only the canned "Welcome" page). I then copied ONLY THE CONTENTS of that folder directly into the Sites folder within the Web folder on my iDisk. I then went to the "short" URL:
    http://web.mac.com/membername/
and it worked. Hope this helps; hope Apple also makes this a direct option within iWeb for those that only want to use their account for "a" site instead of multiple.

    Well,
it's up to you. The first part (Mcit-Project-ViewController-context-root) is the context root which you define in the view controller project. 'faces' is the name the servlet filter reacts on. You can't omit it but shorten it in web.xml. The rest is your directory structure. I'm not sure how to shorten this other as to move the jspx files back into the web root folder.
By the way an ADF faces app never uses the .jspx at the end of the url. If you specify '.jspx', you only render the page but don't start the work flow.

  • Best options for life (gulp) after iWeb...

    Hey Gang,
Been using iWeb since its inception. I've learned to love it.
Well- with the begining of iCloud and the transition away from MobileMe I see the writing on the wall. I realize alot of people will continue to use iWeb but I want to be proactive as I have several business websites created on my iMac.
About 2 years ago I had a strange backup issue and lost everything. I nearly switched off of iWeb at that time but I just loved it too much.
I want to start making the switch sooner than later as I know that Apple will eventually not support iWeb. It's only a matter of time before there is some quirk with a new OS version and it probably just won't open or whatever it may be...
So- yesterday I spent 12 hours and tried out each of these sites: Wix, Snappages, Webs, Intuit Websites, Weebly, Yola, Google Sites, Jimdo, Roxer, Neosites, Vistaprint, Moonfruit, and Squarespace.
They all left ALOT to be desired except Squarespace. I think it has potential.
As an alternative, I also downloaded Adobe Muse and did not like it at all. I used Rapidweaver in the past and didn't think much of it. I see their new version is packed with tons of extra costs- no thanks!
I'm left with Sandvox which I am going to try today.
Here's my question: What do you folks suggest? Moving away from actual software (Sandvox)? Transitioning to web-based (Squarespace) ? I really like the drag/drop functionality of iWeb but realize I might have to make some concessions!
A concern is working on multiple sites that reside on my comouter and constantly having to backup. I might be creating 2-3 more sites for friends so that would mean I have close to 10. Do I really want to do that and essentially become a webmaster? No so sure.
    I welcome all suggestions!
PS- I'm not a newbie but I also have not created and uploaded via an ftp/host. I do however have domains etc...
I'd like to do what is easiest and makes the most sense in the long run..

A few months ago I had a look around at what was available in the way of software and you can download a PDF from this page under "Alternative Website Design Software"...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Why-iWeb.html
The main alternatives to iWeb, such as Sandvox and RapidWeaver, were not an option for me since they suffer from the same restrictions and cost a lot more. The other available drag and drop style software is either flawed or like, Freeway, antiquated and badly designed.
The online site builders do seem to offer a good alternative but they can be just as restrictive, cost a lot more and still produce huge ammounts of code. Some claim to be free but you need to look at the real cost - especially if you have more than one site. They do offer portable versions of the site suitable for iPhone etc and this has become a necessity - at least for a business site.
I chose to move on to a code entry style software and this has proved to be fairly easy since the one I use is WYSIWYG and I can see the changes in real time in the preview window. Its also cheaper than RapidWeaver and Sandvox and doesn't require add ons to optimize and upload the files.
HTML5 will allow us to build better, more efficient websites but its not quite there yet. If I hadn't made the move to code entry software I think I would have been tempted to stick with iWeb for the time being and use one of the online site builders to create a separate portable version for cell phones as a stop gap.
There has got to be a better way to create websites using drag and drop and I believe something will come along that will make apps like iWeb, Sandvox and RapidWeaver redundant. After all, why did Apple quit on iWeb?
iWeb does offer two alternatives for publishing...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
... and there's any amount of hosting out there...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Website-Hosting.html
The  MobileMe only features can be replaced with alternatives if you need them...

  • ?? Techniques for shorter URL's

    QUESTION:
I have an outstanding request for shorter URL's from my Management Team. We use
    the full Portal functionality.
I am looking for possible solutions/techniques to achive this goal.
    Thank you in advance.
    Tony McClay

    Hi Nicolas,
I see several ways to handle this, each with their own pros and cons.
The simpliest is a static solution that place on the webserver redirection pages. The cons is that it's not managable (for each redirection, you have to create your redirection page)
The dynamic solution could be to incorporate a "Filter" at the portal server level. Using a Filter, you intercept each request on the portal server and you can redirect to the appropriate resource. All your redirection could be managed in a external storage (db) and a caching mechanism with expiration time can avoid request to the datastore. This solution is really flexible but requires to incorporate a additional filter on the portal server. This solution has to be implemented very carrefully because of possible side effects with portal filters.
I stay at your disposal for any additional information
    Best regards,
    Patrick

  • Is out there any option to create free forums for iweb?

Just that: Is out there any option to create free forums for iweb?
This is also related to this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=565482&tstart=0
    Thaks a lot.

    Pablo,
I think the best choice for what you are trying to do is 1&1 Webhosting. You will like the pricing, the domain options, and they offer a forum/blog app that works great. You also mentioned something about third party ftp in your other post; you will enjoy the flexibility that can be achieved if you are using something like GoLive or DreamWeaver. Getting and putting files is not an issue, and you can also set up password protection with 1&1 as well.
