Shortcut for going to beginning or end of a line in document

As a previous pc user (but no more! yeah! I love my iMac!) I used to be able to hit home or end to go to the beginning or end of line on the document. Doing it with my iMac actually moves me to the end or beginning of the whole document. What is the shortcut for just wanting to go to the beginning or end of the line on a document?
Thanks for your help...
Steve

Here's a few more, Steve.
option-up arrow moves you to the beginning of the current paragraph; option-down arrow to the end of the current paragraph.
Adding Shift to any of the command-arrow or option-arrow combinations will select the text that the insertion point moves over.
So to select a word, you could press option-left arrow then shift-option right arrow.
To select a whole line press command-right arrow then shift-command-left arrow.
And to select a paragraph...

Barry

  • Anyway to Disable Backspace as a shortcut for going back?

Sometimes, when posting on a forum like this ... or really anywhere on the web, if I accidently leave a text field (after spending way too much time writing something really witty of course) or accidently hit backspace, Safari 5.03 goes back. I know it's my fault for screwing up, but losing my work over a stupid mistake really *****. Anyway a cluts like me can disable BACKSPACE as a short cut for going back in Safari??? It's driving me nuts, but I don't really want to use IE or any other browser.

yes (i should have been clearer), with that option set hitting backspace puts you back in a text field (if there is one) instead of going back one page. it should work properly once you've reloaded any pre-existing pages but do let me know if there are cases* where it doesn't.
*it obviously doesn't work where safari extensions are disabled, like on extensions.apple.com.

  • Shortcut for going from Tab to Tab in Safari 4.0.3?

    Hello folks,
Is there a shortcut to use for quickly going from open tab to open tab in Safari 4.0.3 without using the mouse to click on the open tab?
    Thanks

You're welcome. This tip has nothing to do with the keyboard, but its graphic effect is kind of neat:
To open a tab in a different Safari window, place the pointer over the tab and drag it to another Safari window or to the desktop.
...So a tab can be removed from a Safari window by dragging it out — and then later, in the same way (by first dragging it out of its new Safari window), put back into its original Safari window.

  • Safari preferences: keyboard shortcut for going from pane to pane

Is there a keyboard command that allows to go from pane to pane in Safari 7.1 preferences?
I looked and didn't find any. That would be quite handy indeed…

Well, that's what I feared, Dominic. It solves my question anyway, I'm afraid.
It would have been a darned good thing though. You know, I've been a power user on Mac since the very beginning. And all that time, I've asked myself why there was no consistency in keyboard commands, and why there was no keyboard command at all. I've added a lot of shortcuts using System Preferences, but you can use this trick only if there is a Menu command to begin with. Same thing with Mail, and no doubt with a lot of other Apple apps. But it's such a wonderful machine that I can live with that! :-)
Thanks a lot for taking the time.

  • Keyboard shortcuts to get at the start/end of the line

    Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a keyboard shortcut in Numbers that will select the cell at the start of a line or its end, not only moving the screen. But there is no mention of such a shortcut in the user's guide. Did I miss something ?
Also, is there something similar for a column ?
    Thanks

    Hi TheMoose,
I've looked in Help > Keyboard Shortcuts, User guide, and the Numbers 291 page PDF file for those shortcut keys but cannot find them.
Let's hope someone smarter than I will jump in to assist you.

  • SQL loader for empty field at the end of the line

    Hi,
I have following data file for sql loader. I am using Oracle 11.2. The table structure is table_a(id number, name varchar2(32), nbr number).
    1, zzzz, 123
    2, bbb,
    3, ccc, 33
    4, ddd,
Currently, I am using "TERMINATED BY ',' " in the control file for SQL loader. However row2 and row4 were thrown into the bad file. Any suggestion for me to load row2 and row4 into the table as well?
    Thanks,

Two of three columns in your table are named with reserved words.
My first suggestion is to run this query:
    SELECT keyword
    FROM v$reserved_words
ORDER BY 1;My second suggestion is that your read the FAQ and learn how to use tags to post listings to these forums so we can read what you post.
My third suggestion is that you go to my SQL*Loader Demos page of my website:
    http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/sqlloader.html
    and look up "TRAILING NULLCOLS."

  • Javadoc Comments Begin and End Offset, Line number etc...

    Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if there is a method that return the begin and end offsets, and line number of source code comment. I know this is possible to get the line number for Doc, MethodDoc, ConstutorDoc etc... with the position() method. I was unable to get the locations of comments corresponding to the actual source code. Also, I found that when asking for the position of constructors the value returned was that of the class, is this a known bug?
    Thanks in Advanced,

Just out of curiosity, what do the folks at sun use for Java Parsers? They didn't need to go too far. The Java Parser must be a part of any Java compiler itself! Therefore, it is a part of any JDK. Obviously, they have some internal API of their Java parser and, I guess, Javadoc uses it to build the Java code model provided via the Doclet API. But Sun had never published the full API to their Java parser. (At least, I don't know such.) Although, it would be very useful indeed...
FYI, a parser for a high-level programming language (like Java) is a software module that inputs a program written (by humans) as text in that language and converts it into some object representation (model) "understandable" to computer. That object representation must be a sort of tree representing all the language constructs found in the program. Typically, that tree is accessible via a certain API, which I call here a Parser API (although, other terminology may be used).
Other software modules may use that object representation of the program for various purposes, for instance:
    - To generate an executable machine (or byte-) code by it
    - To transform the initial program in order to optimize it (this is used by compilers) or to do other things (e.g. refactoring)
    - To generate documentation (that's what Javadoc does)
Besides generating the program object representation, another job of a parser is to provide diagnostics about various syntactical errors found in the initial program source (a well as possibly some semantic warnings).
A parser is rather sophisticated piece of code. To develop it properly, one needs to learn first some theory about this, e.g. a formal grammar that describes the given programming language and how to deal with it. I know, there have been attempts to create some universal parsers that can be adjusted to parse any programming language (within a certain range) by specifying to them some formal grammar of that language. That topic was particularly beloved by university guys, so there must be many scientific articles about this.

Well, if you are developing an Eclipse plugin, have you considered working with Eclipse' Abstract Syntax Tree (basically an object model for Java code) instead of the Doclet API?Interesting stuff... Looks like this might be that very Java parser API I am talking about here.

    Hello everybody,
Sorry to trouble you with such a simple problem, but I can't find it in the "Help" menu. What is the key board shortcut for going back one window. From a folder window, I can click the left arrow (upper left) but what is the short cut? I thought it was holding the command key and clicking the left arrow key, but that does not work. The error that you are receiving indicates that it happened on line 113 of your code, so you have obviously left out a whole lot. The portion of the code that you posted works fine, as long as you have all of the correspoinding pieces. I don't know if sdistruct is a package or a row of a cursor or what and I don't know your table structure, so I have just made something up, in order to demonstrate below. In the future, it helps if you include things like complete code and table structure and Oracle version.

  • How can I disable the touchpad and mouse shortcuts for go back a page? I keep accidentally going back a page and losing tons of data because of it.

I've looked in both Windows 7's system options and Firefox options for ways of disabling this autoshortcut for going back a page, but there doesn't seem to be one. I'll be using the touchpad, sliding my fingers across, when I somehow activate a shortcut for "Go Back a Page" and end up losing tons of data on a form or chat or game.

You can set mousewheel.with*.action pref(s) like mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action to 0 to perform a scroll.
    mousewheel.withcontrolkey.action
    mousewheel.withnokey.action

Not sure about Pro, but on my MacBook (Leopard 10.5.6):
    In Word
= fn + right or left arrow keys only take me to the "home" or "end of the particular line I'm on.
= fn + up or down do the same as the MS "pg up" or "pg dn"
= fn + command + (arrow keys) take me to the very beginning or end of the document (Word or Excel).
    In Excel
= command + right or left jumps to the next cell that has info in it (skips empty cells)
= command + up or down jumps to the beginning or end of adjacent cells with info in them.
    = fn + right doesn't do anything
= fn + left takes me to the beginning of whatever row I'm in.
= fn + up and down are the same as pg up and pg dn. So is command + up or down arrow.
= fn + command + left arrow takes you to the beginning of the document (same as "Cntrl + Home")

  • Function or BAPI for material's Beginning Inventory,Receipts, ending inven

    HI all,
Is there is a function or BAPI for material's Beginning Inventory,Receipts, ending inventory?
Just like t-code 'ckm3',we can see the material's Beginning Inventory,Receipts, ending inventory ,include quantities and price, and we can see the corresponding details documents.
But I want to see this for many materials at the same time ,not for one material. Especially for the material's Receipts(for adding inventory quantity, I do not attention the price value) during the current period.and the total of Receipt is ok , not for details documents in this period.
So ,is there a function or BAPI for it ? I want to use it to develop customizing inventory report.
    Best regards,
