Shortcut for "select visible pixels"?

CS3 had a command when you right-clicked on a layer in the layermenu: "Select visible pixels", but it's gone in CS4. A Mac-user showed me how a command-click on a layer selected visible pixels, but it doesn't work with cntrl, alt or shift on my Win7/CS4-PC. There is neither any choice for this command on the select-menu. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Ah, many thanks, it was the "click on the layer-icon"-part the other explanations didn't mention.

  • Keyboard shortcut for selecting clips

I'd like to program a button or buttons on my control surface to select clips in the timeline. Are there keyboard shortcuts for selecting clips? (it's not "x")

    Thanks RedTruck.
The problem with x is that it seems to mark every clip, but I think you may be on to something. Is there a keyboard command for selecting the target track? I could possibly add that command to the macro to make this work....trying to get to mouse-free editing.

  • Keyboard shortcut for selecting point on curve?

Before CS4 you use to be able to hold down the command key, at least I think it was the command key, while you have a curve open and you could see where you were on the curve, then click with the mouse to select that point. Now you have first click on the little finger with the arrow icon in the curve pallette to do that. So is there a keyboard shortcut to select that icon?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi
I'm afraid the short answer appears to be: no.
There is still no way... unless someone can correct me and I'd love them to... to highlight a panel (cycle through them till the required one is highlighted) and then simply tab through the various parts of that panel. I've just had a play. Nor is it amenable to setting up an action for it which I've found to be a solution before now... just tried it. Nor is there a custom shortcut opportunity.... I've drawn a blank on all the ways I'd try.
I beleive you're talking about the Window > Adjustments > Curves panel and the little tool at the top of the list.
    I am sorry.

  • Shortcut for selecting non-default button in dialog boxes

I seem to remember that there was a keyboard shortcut many OSs ago. I can't seem to find it or replicate it. Particularly, I would like to choose the non-default button in a dialog box in Acrobat Pro for productivity's sake.
    Thanks, Jon

Hi Jon, and a warm welcome to the forums!
No way to tell if Adobe follows the standard, but TAB generally moves through the Dialog buttons & Space Bar selects that choice where Enter/Return chooses the default blue button. Sometimes the CMD key + the first letter of the button selects it iirc. Sometimes the esc key passes for Cancel.
If it's not, in Sys Prefs change if the “Full keyboard access” under keyboard shortcuts is set to use text boxes and lists only, switch it to “All controls”.

  • Any ShortCut for selecting Tracks in FCP?

    Hello,
I wonder if there is any ShortCut to select the Tracks in the Timeline?
I googled, and I asked friends nobody seem to know!
Thats the only moment I need to use my Mouse/Pen, while making a rough cut.
There is a ShortCut for everything else
like moving the Tracks up and down...but for selecting them?
    I dont know!
    PB 1.5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

As mentioned, no keyboard shortcut to select whole tracks.
You can select clips in tracks with the keyboard, if that's what you want to do, but it's cumbersome. I'm all about using the keyboard when possible, but it's the one things that using the mouse is best for.
To select clips with the keyboard, you must really think ahead, about Ins and Outs, and AutoSelect. If, say, you wanted to select clips on Track 2 with only the keyoard, you might need to take these many steps
    Mark In and Out
Or, if you need an entire track, press Command-A to select all, then X to Mark In and Out, then Shift-A to Mark Selection
Toggle Autoselect Off for all Video Tracks (Command-Numeric Zero, that's Zero on the number pad)
Toggle AutoSelect On for select video tracks (Command-Numeric Two - you guessed it, 2 on the number pad)
Toggle Autoselect Off for all Audio Tracks (Option-Numeric Zero)
Toggle AutoSelect On for select Audio tracks (Command-Numeric [track #] (for each track)
    Select In and Out (Option-A)
In other words, learn to appreciate your mouse.

  • Shortcut for selecting the options bar?

So after I select a tool in Photoshop or Illustrator, I would like to be able to access the option bar ( that second bar just below file, edit, etc ) with a keyboard shortcut.
Does anyone know what the shortcut key is for accessing the options bar instead of using your mouse every time?
    Thanks,
    Ricky

I wrote that there are none that the option bar changes for each tool.  That some tool have shortcuts keys and modifier keys.  Active tool  keys should work for the tool your using and other tools shortcut key when held can temporarily switch tool.
Example the brush tool there are shortcuts for changing brush size, shortcuts for hardness and softness, shortcuts for Opacity.  click and shift click for straight,  etc  So you can use the options bar and or  tools shortcuts  and modifier keys shift, alt, ctrl, space bar.... Read Adobe help for Tools like brush end about shortcuts

  • Why is the keyboard shortcut for 'Select next input source' disabled when using Safari?

I'm using Safari 6.0.5 and am running 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro 13" from last year.
I've been using Chrome and Firefox heavily recently, but switched to Safari to give it a chance. It's really nice and lightweight, which suits me.
However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the keyboard shortcut 'Select next input source' is disabled in Safari, in all windows/input methods.
Since I constantly switch input methods, this is incredibly frustrating.
It persists after quit + restart.
    Any ideas?

Yes, just Safari. In Chrome, Firefox and all other applications it works as expected.

  • Shortcut for selecting multiple files within folders

I'm archiving a load of work on to CD and deleting the files off of my server but keeping the folders on there for reference.
Currently, I am having to SHIFT + click / COMMAND + click &drag to select these files and it is taking me forever.
Is there a keyboard shortcut that allows me to select all files within folders rather than just a select all which will select the folders aswell?

I would switch to list view, then click on the "Kind" column which will group the folders together.  Now you can click and drag to select a large range of files, excluding the folders, or you can click on the first file, the Shift click on the last file to select a large range of files.  At most you would need to do this twice.  Once for files listed above folders, and once for files listed below folders.
If you want to use the Terminal, there are powerful Unix commands that can do this, however, that same power when misused can wipe out your disk :-)

  • Keyboard shortcut for select tool when in text tool

I'm trying to figure out the best way to use keyboard shortcuts in Motion 5, but I've come across
    a little issue:
Let's say I've been using the text tool adjusting text in a text box.   Then I want to go to the Select/Transform tool.
If I type Shift+S (the keyboard command for the Select/Transform tool), a capital "S" appears in my text.
The only way around this I've found is to enable the Select/Transform tool with my mouse, which I find kind of slow and annoying.
Any ideas?  Hope I'm missing something obvious.
    Thanks.

The escape key will take you out of text entry mode. See the "Text Tools in the Toolbar" Section

  • Keyboard Shortcut for Selecting between volumes?

How do I select between volumes without having to use the mouse to select the upper left hand section if the finder window? It seems like I can only navigate the folders contained within the drives using the keypad, but not between the drives themselves. Anybody know if this is possible?

iKey is a front end program that simulates typing and mouse movements. I use iKey to remap the Function keys.
"iKey is an automation utility, a program that creates shortcuts to accomplish repetitive tasks. In essence, an iKey shortcut is a little program in its own right, but you don't need to know the first thing about programming to create an iKey shortcut. All you have to do is put together three necessary parts of a shortcut: One or more commands that give the shortcut its functionality, a context in which it runs, and a launcher that defines how the shortcut is activated."
    http://www.scriptsoftware.com/ikey/
iKey has a little more function then the previous free version called youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported.

I have the common programs that I use assigned to function keys. I have F4 assigned to Firefox. When I want to start FireFox, I press F4. When I want to switch to firefox, I press F4! Starting & switching to an application in Mac OS are the same thing in Mac OS.
Here is an example of to assign volumn control to a function key.

Here is my script for listing my application folder. I have it assigned to function-key 6.

    tell application "Finder"
set windowNames to windows whose name contains "Applications"
       repeat with wNames_ref in windowNames
          close wNames_ref
       end repeat
       activate
       select window of desktop
make new Finder window to startup disk
       select Finder window 1
set target of Finder window 1 to folder "Applications" of startup disk
       select Finder window 1
       set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
    end tell
The second portion of this script was generated in the script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some editing, I copy the script to ikey/youpi key.
I have all of my frequently used applications set to function keys.

  • Selecting the Pixels of a Shape. It use to be easy now it's not!

    Hey Guys,
    I use to use CS3 on a PC. Now I use CS5 on a Mac OSX 10.6.3
I believe the shortcut for selecting the pixels of a shape was CTRL-R. I've tried various ways a Mac might do it like Command + R and Option + R etc and nothing works. All I want to do is select the pixels of a Shape and it doesn't work. The magic wand tool doesn't select shapes, I get an error about "cannot select because the area is a target filled layer". It never use to be like this.
So does anyone know how to select the pixels of a shape? What is the shortcut?
    Thanks a lot!

    No. Do twenty push-ups!
Mastering Photoshop is not easy, all of us (well, at least me) sometimes click on the wrong spot, or hit the wrong shortcut, especially when we change the OS or the version of Photoshop we work on (or even the keyboard layout, FR Vs EN!).
And learning from one's mistake is very effective (it was for me )

  • Keyboard shortcuts for text selection not working in Flash CC

In the new Code Editor in Flash CC running on Mac OS X, most standard Keyboard Shortcuts for traversing through the text work as expected (as the Operating System works globally) but there is one that doesn't and it's I think the most important one.
Hitting "OPTION + SHIFT + [right or left arrow keys]" to select words doesn't work. Hitting "OPTION + [right or left arrow keys]" works as expected, moving the cursor to the next word or break point, but adding shift doesn't do the selection.
I don't understand why this changed since it's a basic OS global shortcuts, and every other program behaves the way it should. Flash CS6 running on the same system behaves fine, but Flash CC doesn't. If you have ever written code, you know that any second that a programmers hand doesn't have to leave the keyboard to search for the mouse is invaluable, and this has forced me to stop using Flash CC and use Flash CS6 to edit my Action Script classes becuase it's unusable otherwise.
These shortcuts are also not listed in the keyboard shortcuts for the program, so I can't change the default behavior. Does anybody know if there's a way to set it back to the way it was before, or just disable special text shortcuts so that selecting text behaves like any other application in the operating system?
    System Configuration:
    Flash CC
    Mac OSX 10.8.5

Amy~ Yep the lasso tool was what I verified with another user. 'L' seems to be bound indefinitely to loop through different types of lasso tools and it was annoying them because they just wanted L to be the regular freehand lasso. I removed 'L' from being an option on the polygon lasso and even set it explicitly to SHIFT+L as well as set the lasso tool to a completely different keyboard combo. 'L' still cycled through lassos haha. It needs some fixes.
fertolg~ At least you have a workaround for now. I'd go nuts if I couldn't use keyboard text selection writing code, oy! You're welcome and if you're all set please mark correct so we can filter unanswered. Good luck!

  • Set keyboard shortcut for Acrobat DC tools (highlight tool, selection tool)

It seems that this new version Acrobat DC does not have keyboard shortcut for these tools?
How to set shortcuts as the old versions (e.g. U key for highlight, V key for selection)?

Might this link be what you are looking for? https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/keyboard-shortcuts.html
I can't find anything on creating your own shortcuts. Actually, you may want to go to the online help and download the manual in PDF form.
