Shortcut keys disappearing on reboot

Guys
I'm using to putting things on the desktop and if you right click on a desktop icon, properties, you can define a shortcut key like ctrl+alt+k. However, on every reboot, these disappear for me. Has anybody heard about this happening on 8.1

Though it's for Windows 7, causes and solutions are similiar to Windows 8.1, so please check whether this issue is related with "broken" shortcuts, temporarily turn off Computer Maintenance and other scheduled maintenance tool in your system.

Action Options (shortcut keys) disappear

I'm setting up shortcut keys for actions on a new Mac Pro (the garbage can model). When I close photoshop then reopen it, the shortcuts are gone. The action is still there but the shortcut associated with it is gone.
Any ideas?
It's really that simple. Create action. In the actions menu, select the action and "action options". Create shortcut. Run action with shortcut. Close Photoshop. Reopen. It's gone.

Have you tried repairing permissions?

Have you saved your Actions as atn-files? If you reliad those do they store the shortcuts?

SetAsFuncitonKey() and shortcut keys

SetAsFuncitonKey() seemigly provides shortcut key functionality -- but this
proves not to be the case as once you register a key as a funciton key,
anytime you press that key, whichever widget has focus will post an
AfterValueChange event. This creates a lot of conflicts once you register
a bunch of function keys and do some validations on AfterValueChange.
Workarounds might include the ability to register key+modifier with
SetAsFunctionKey() or to have a reason attribute on the AfterValueChange
event -- but neither currently exist in Forte.
Does anybody have any workarounds so that using SeyAsFuncitonKey() does not
result in the extraneous AfterValueChange events?
If not, does anybody have any good workarounds for creating shortcut keys
-- without having to use the menu bar.

If you didn't install the chipset and graphics drivers for your model you won't be able to change the screen brightness or adjust the screen resolution.
First, install the amd chipset drivers and reboot.

My Shortcut Keys are not Working

Hi everybody.
I was working on a project for the past couple of days. All of a sudden my "JKL" keys are not working. My "spacebar" will start and stop a clip, but the JKL keys have no effect. Also, none of my other shortcut keys will work.
The keys work when I go to another application.
I trashed my preferences and emptied the trash... no change.
Anybody have any ideas?

Have been unsuccessful uninstalling mywebsearch. Mozilla Firefox shortcut key takes me to mywebsearch. mywebsearch was apparently installed on 5/23/2010 when i thought i was accessing a cool screensaver website. I WANT MY FIREFOX BACK!

Anyone having trouble with full screen shortcut key?

For no reason, the shortcut keys for full screen window quit working. They started working after a reboot once but just quit again and restart did not correct this time. Quite annoying, any fix for this?

Spaces shortcut key still works in Lion

While I was still running Snow Leopard, I had set F5 to activate Spaces. Even though F5 doesn't appear to be listed in the Keyboard Shortcuts preferences, it still seems to work. Now that I've upgraded to Lion, strangely the key still seems to work, but I can't get to the Spaces pref pane since it's been replaced by Mission Control. Not a major problem, but ideally I'd like to assing Launchpad to F5, doing so doesn't work while the old Spaces shortcut key holds sway.
I got it to stop working once I set them all of the categories to defaults, but after a reboot it still seems to be set to F5.

com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist also contains these settings:
Control+right and control+left moves from desktop to desktop
Control+1, Control+2, and so forth, go to the specified desktop
Option+Command+D shows and hides the dock
Control-Up shows Mission Control
F12 (or Fn F12) shows the dashboard
If any of those work, it's mystery. Maybe the file is invisible. Not likely. It can't be a bug in Lion, or lots and lots of people would have this problem. It can't be a corrupt installation file, because the problem is too specific. It could be that reinstallation or recovery would fix it. You have an Apple Store in München, so you could ask a Genius there. I think that is the best bet.
This is a system file. If it doesn't exist at log in, Lion creates it. It should not be missing. It occurs to me just now that the Preferences folder might have the wrong permissions and that could prevent Lion from creating the file. Your user account should own the Permissions folder and have read and write privileges. The everyone group should have no access. There should not be any other entries in the name column beyond those two.
Don't apply to enclosed items just yet. The plist files have the same permissions, but the lockfiles have an additional entry granting Wheel read-only access.

Nokia E61i shortcut keys problem

I have Nokia E61i and have a problem with shortcut keys.
My contact, mail and own key stops working after some time. I need to reboot the device to get the functionality back. Does any one know how to fix the problem? It is very annoying to reboot the device every time the keys stop working.
I have the latest firmware loaded

In my case, I have the latest firmware. However, I think I found what is causing my problem. I read in another thread somewhere that 3rd party alarm programs cause the problem. Sure enough, when I disabled my 3rd party alarms, my buttons remaind usable. When I set a 3rd party alarm off, the buttons became nonfunctional.
Whether this is a bug in the alarm program or in the system function calls of the Symbian OS, I don't know; however, I do at least know how to keep my buttons functional. Now only if this bug could be fixed...

How to Open a Specific Folder in the Finder via Shortcut Key

I'm sure this has been covered elsewhere, so sorry for not finding it...
Is it possible to assign a shortcut key to open a specific folder with Automator or AppleScript? There are 4-5 commonly used folders buried 10-11 levels deep on a server and I'd love to have a shortcut key to open those particular folders in the Finder.

QuickKeys may work, or you can look on http://www.versiontracker.com or http://www.macupdate.com for other alternatives.
Another option is to create aliases to those folders and store the aliases in a local folder which you can place on your Dock, the Finder window sidebar or toolbar.

ok, I found the keyboard viewer, it only shows the traditional symbol 'return'. something like a sideway u-turn continued with the arrow under. This is the Canadian or US keyboard.

I don't believe there is a keyboard shortcut available for that feature. But I believe if you click-select the topmost chapter, and Shift-click the bottommost chapter, it should select them all.
Other shortcuts for books can be set up in Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts in the Panel Menus product area. There are no default shortcuts in that area.

Satellite U400-12P - Multimedia Shortcut Keys illuminates 24-7

Hey everyone,
I am new to this forum and I hope someone will solve the problem I have.
I own a Toshiba Satellite U400-12P (been a year now). Past few days I have noticed that the multimedia keys (PLAY/PAUSE/FFD/RWD/) isn't functiong (doesnt respond to my touch) + multimedia keys illuminates 24-7;that is even if the computer is switched off the shortcut keys are shining brightly. I have no clue why this is taking place.
If someone has a solution to this. I shall greatly appreciate it.

How to grab global shortcuts keys in a java application?

Does anybody know if it's possible to get the focus to a Java application, when it is not selected, using a keyboard shortcut key?
I've written a java application that provides shortcuts keys (like CTRL-M...) for accessing to some operations. For using those keys combinations my application has to be focused between the other opened applications on the operating system (Linux 7.3), as it should be in a normal behaviour... but, I would need that the operation associated to the shortcut key could be executed even if another application had the focus...
Is it possible? How this could be done?

There are multiple ways to do similar things. One, built into the system, is to use text replacement. See:

There are other programs you can buy that can do the job in different ways, such as TextExpander. You could also just create a clipping file by dragging your e-mail address to somewhere like the desktop, and then you can simply drag that file to wherever you like to insert your e-mail address there.

Shortcut Key in JInternalFrame

I have an application that has multiple JInternalFrames displayed within split panes. I am trying to set shortcut keys to cycle through the visible JInternalFrame. I have a Menu Item oCycleWindows, on which I called setAccelerator() with Ctrl+Shift+M. In th emenu handler for this item, I have defined a function that checks the current focussed internal frame, and accordingly picks the next one to get the focus.
My problem is as follows: on clicking Ctrl+Shift+M, I am able to see that the next window has focus (the title bar color changes), but when I use the up/down keys to navigate within the newly focussed window, actually the navigation happens in the previous window....
I have a tree view at the left, and two views at the right, and going from the tree view to any of the right views sometimes works correctly, sometimes doesn't (in fact i believe this happens every alternate time I shift to the non-tree view). Here, I have tables in the right views, and I try to select different rows using up/down keys once the right view has the focus, but the navigation occurs in the Tree view, with previous/next node getting selected instead!
The funniest part is, the problem isn't there if the shortcut defined is 'F6', but for any other shortcut (F12, F11, Ctrl+M, Ctrl+Shift+M, Ctrl+K, CTrl+Shift+K etc.) this problem is seen.
Does anyone have ANY idea why this happens? I tried to look up the bugs DB, but couldn't find anything specific to this...
