Shortcut on desktop defaults to tile view not columns view

I dragged some folders from my hard drive into the far left-hand column ("PLACES") to create shortcuts. All of the folders (shortcuts) open in Column view, which I like.
Unfortunately, one of the shortcuts opens in Tile view, which I dislike.
I tried recreating / redgragging the folder into PLACES many times but it always defaults to Tile view.
Any thoughts on how to get it to open in Columns view?
Thanks

when you click on the folder you will see on the top bar of the finder there is a gear click on that then go to show viewing option then in the viewing option check if the columns view is checked or not

  • View always opens in Icon view, not Column view

    Hello,
    I open Finder and it always opens in Icon view. I set it to open to Column and close Finder. When I reopen Finder, it opens in Icon again. I've tried trashing the Finder plist, repaired permissions, but nothing. Is there anything I can do to keep it opening the same way? It's pretty frustrating.
    Thanks.

    Hi Danielmak,
    This Terminal command is not specifically related to Column View I'm afraid...
    I don't fully understand what it does, but what I can tell you is that the script - for me & a few others - got rid of the common problem where the Finder-window only for the Macintosh HD (i.e. double-clicking on the Mac HD icon) always re-set back to Icon-View after a re-start, despite changing the window to List View and un-checking 'Always Open in Icon View' in View Options (Cmd+J).
    I'm not sure I fully understand your problem, but..... You can have separate Finder-windows in different view-types (icon/list/column etc), BUT, the view-type does not automatically change between different types as you drill down into the folders in that particular window.
    If you want a particular view-type & window-size to stick for each drive or folder on the desktop, you have to make your changes at the first level, then close the window... When you double-click again on that same drive, the view-type (don't forget to un-check the 'Always open in icon view' in View Options) & window position should be the same. If you drill down into the folders in that hard drive, & THEN make changes to view-type & window size, they will not stick (i.e. the next time you double-click on the HD icon, it will re-open in the originally-set position & view-type.)
    Hope that helps. Apologies if I've misunderstood the question.
    All the best,
    Jason

  • Column view not Icon View?

    This is most annoying. Every time I restart or startup my Mac Pro and I open my MacHD, the default Icon view appears. Once I have the MacHD window open, if I click on View/Show View Options I can click off "Always show in iCon View". Then I change the view to Columns and, under View/Show View Options I click on "Always show in column view". This works until I need to restart or shutdown and startup. Then it goes back to the default Icon view.
    *How can I get this option to always show the column view after a restart or startup?*

    Easy enough to do that (at least in Tiger):
    When I first got it, I did click on the HD icon and then proceeded to drag the applications I frequently use, important folders, etc. into the dock. I organized the applications by "type", i.e. all web stuff together (browsers, Mail, etc), word processing, movie making related, photo related, utilities (Onyx, Disk Utility, Super Duper, etc). My important folders (to the right of the dock separator) all have custom icons for easy identification. All in all, I have 63 small icons in the dock (I just counted them!), set to magnify when I mouse over them and I've done it this way for so long that I pretty much know where a particular icon is located.
    You might to give it a try - it should work in Leopard?
    I use a similar idea. It is called DockFun! It provides me with unlimited number of docks. Each one is categorized like your folders. I still find that sometimes when I save a file or move a file(s) from one place to another and, with my feeble memory, forget where it is or the name I used (more often than I care to admit!) , like to search folders by opening the HD via column view.
    Back to the problem - I even tried it in "Safe" mode but I got the same results. Here's another oddity.
    The setting on my MacBook Pro, with the same OS 10.5.6, works perfectly. If I set the view to column view it remains in column view. Very Strange!!
    *Any friendly geeks out there that can maybe provide me with a Terminal command or two that will do the trick?*

  • Finder: Changing from thumbnail view to column view takes me back to the root folder.

    Hi,
    I was hoping someone could help me with this as it's getting a bit tedious having to re-navigate back to the folder I was in. This problem is only occuring when I am working from an external NAS Drive.
    I need to switch between thumbnail view and column view regularly, but whenever I change from thumnails to column - finder jumps back to the root folder, meaning I have to work my way back to where I was.
    I can't figure out how to stop this happening! It doesn't happen when changing from column to thumbnails, only the other way round..
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Sarah.

    Hi Barney,
    Thanks for your reply Unfortunately though I already use AFP on the NAS drive and still have the problem, so it seems this is an issue with both AFP and CIFS..

  • Finder doesn't remember (always view in column view"

    When i click on macintosh HD on my desktop, it always opens in icon view. I want to open it in column view, but it always opens in icon view. I go to "show view options" and deselect "always open in icon view", which then changes to "always open in colum view" which i then click.
    The, if my macbook goes to sleep or turns off, when i restart it, it opens again in icon view. nothing major, but soooo annoying!
    Any ideas? When i click finder in the dock it remembers to view things in column view, but not the macintosh HD from desktop

    I do not have the solution because I checked my hard drive icons in the desktop and they open in column view in Finder as I would like them to. In FINDER:VIEW:SHOW VIEW OPTIONS I have all three options clicked on the bottom (SHOW ICON, SHOW ICON PREVIEW, SHOW PREVIEW COLUMN). The option on the top says ALWAYS IN COLUMN VIEW which is unchecked even if I check it. So maybe it is a bug.

  • Renders front view, not camera view in 3D

    After Effects CC 2014
    I have 1 composition that is rendering the front view instead of the camera view.  The camera is on and active.  The ram preview is the camera view.  This seems to be a bug, and it does not happen to other comps in the project.
    Further clues:  If I drag the comp into another comp, it will show the camera view, but still render the front view.
    If I create a new comp using this comp as the only selection, it will show the front view.
    Is there any way to reset the view for render.  This is a busy 3D comp that I don't want to re-create.  Thanks for any help

    Fast Draft seems to be the culprit.  Turning on fast draft gives me a different cropping on the active camera, and it is incorrect.  This comp's fast draft may have coincidentally looked like it was front view.  Sorry for the post.

  • Retrieve JTable display view / not model view

    I currently have a JTable that has a custom model. This model writes out to a delimeted text file every time the user enters text and moves to another cell.
    I also have a sumbit button that then should take the model/text file and submit it to the database. This happens 3 times a day. (Once per shift).
    The problem is: If a user enters data into a cell and never moves off the cell...it is not written to the model or text file. Therefore, it does not get written to the database.
    Is there any way to retrieve this value or tell the model to update somehow when the submit button is clicked to ensure all values have been accounted for?
    Thanks,
    Sean

    //before submit
    TableCellEditor editor=table.getCellEditor();
    if (editor!=null) {
    if (!editor.stopCellEditing()) {
    // deal with this nasty CellEditor who does not want to quit
    submit();
    CellEditor's partial values need special attention. It is quite some work to make sure all active CellEditor are stopped before doing anything else. Things get more complicated when the input focus moves out of the top level container which the table/tree resides.

  • Bug in Column view?

    I’ve found that in services that I create anew not ones that are available from Apple, I can’t use keyboard shortcuts that I’ve created for those services in column view but can in list or icon view. For example, I just created a service called ‘create clean archive’ using Automator and I could not use the keyboard shortcut I assigned for it in column view but could when it was in list or icon view. Can anyone confirm or is it just me?

    Need to know what shortcuts you're using to test, no?
    Column view has a few unique keyboard shortcuts using Shift, Tab (also Shift-Tab) and arrow keys.

  • Sort files in Finder column view for the current folder only?

    Hi,
    I don't really understand how finder sort settings work, even after using OS X since it first came out. Maybe someone can give me a hand.
    I'm trying to sort files inside one specific folder according to their name decending. In general I have arranged them by label and sorted by file name ascending. Every time I try to use the settings in the "display options" (cmd+J), this applies also to several other folders. Even if I right-click on that particular folder to enter the settings.
    Isn't it possible to apply different sort/arrange options to individual folders?
    p.

    For column view, there is only one arrange/sort, no matter where you are in the hierarchy. It is based on what the arrange/sort was set on the original folder opened.
    In the View Options, the Brows by ??? view checkbox controls what happens when you open a folder from that view. If it is set, then the folder opens in the same view as the enclosing folder. If unchecked, and you have set a view on a folder, that folder will open in the desired view.
    Again, this does not apply in column view. Column view has only one arrange/sort for the entire hierarchy.

  • Always open in "column view"

    I would like the finder to always open in column view, but whenever I make a search using spotlight, it opens in icon view and column view is greyed out in the
    finder>view menu

    I believe column view is not an available feature in Search function; possibly because it already shows you the individual files (rather than folders with their contents opening in another column). I prefer column view myself, but have never been able to set it in the search function.

  • Resizing Column View width

    So here's the issue I'm having that sounds like it might be the opposite of what most people are looking for.  Basically, I want to resize a column when viewing in "Column View" but I don't want the subsequant columns to adopt that size.  Right now in 10.8.3, if you resize a column, then click a folder, the new column will be the same size as the one you resized, regardless if it needs the space to display the filename or not.  I've tried right-clicking on the resize button and have choosen all three options, but none seem to change this.  Apparently in Snow Leopard, it did not behave this way.  Any way to bring it back?  Here are some pics of what I'm describing:

    Yes, I can confirm that in ML, I don't remember SL.
