Shortcut Remapping: Show Current Song

I've been able to navigate to the currently paying song just fine. But one of my FAVORITE shortcuts in iTunes is Cmd-L, Show Current Song. It shows me the song that is playing, in whatever venue it is playing it in, be it playlist or album or whatever. As the current Mac shortcut for Focus on the search bar has 2 Keymappings, would it be possible to remap Cmd-L to Show Current Song?

  • How do you turn off show current song?

hi does anyone here know how to turn off "show current song" in the Edit menu?
    its driving me crazy!!
    thanks

drat ... i should have checked over there anyway.
hmmmm. i've played with that a bit (now that i've found it), and i'm not sure precisely how to do that, or if it's possible. (other people feel free to leap in at this point.)
if you're doing a serious information-editing run while you're playing music in the background, you could try this workaround. create a temporary ordinary playlist, and drag in to that the songs that you want to edit info on. do the editing in that playlist. a song change going on in a different playlist (or the main library) won't adjust your view in the playlist that you're working in.
once you've finished the editing, you could just delete the playlist (or empty the contents of the playlist).

  • Can you automatically "Show Current Song"?

I know that you can select the song that is playing by choosing File>Show Current Song...
but is there a way to do this automatically? So that the current song is automatically selected thereby showing the artwork of the current song?

At the top of the Artwork box, click the arrow and it will change between Selected Track and Now Playing.

  • ITunes screen automatically scrolls to show current song - how to disable?

Whenever a song starts playing in iTunes the screen instantly scrolls to show the song details. This is very annoying when browsing the library while listening to music as you have to scroll back to the spot you were at each time a new song starts.
Is there a way to disable this pointless 'feature'?

Here is an update. Actually what is happening, is the view of the album (in the top with the pictures of the albums) switches to what is playing after a few seconds of inactivity, and the list of songs below that stays where I left off. But when the song is over, the list also switches to the new song that is playing. How do you keep this from happening?

  • Show Current Song

When I try to see the current song that is playing I am taken to the album view, when I open the album I still can't see the song that is playing, any ideas?

I'm using version 9.0.1 and experiencing the exact same problem.
    Anyone, is there a workaround?

  • How do i get the current song to show in the system tray?

    howdy y'all,
the system tray icon for itunes USED to show the current song when you hovered over it. now it only shows "itunes". not very useful ... [*grin*]
how do i get the silly thing to show the current song?
    take care,
    lee

    howdy y'all,
53 views and not one idea from anyone. [*sigh ...*] i suppose that means the nitwits in charge at apple have once again stripped a function away for no rational reason.
i'm beginning to seriously wonder if i ought to switch to another music manager. i _really_ like the way smart playlists work in itunes, so i am _very_ reluctant to switch.
anyway, if anyone has a suggestion, please post it! [*grin*]

  • How to view current song in MiniPlayer?

How do you see the name of the current song that's playing when in MiniPlayer mode? If I click the button to show the "up next" list, it shows the songs that are coming up next (obviously) but how do I see the name of the current song? More importantly, why isn't the currently-playing track at the top of the "up next" list shown in some kind of different shading to give an indication that there's something different about it?
I'm pleased that there is now only one button click required to get between the main window and the MiniPlayer, so that's an improvement at least. But why there's no way to see the name of the current song I don't quite understand. It's unfathomable, really. I know it's only 11.0, so perhaps this slipped off the radar, but seems like a very obvious thing to leave out, IMHO.

For me, in System Preferences -> Keyboard, I had "All controls" selected at the bottom of the "Keyboard Shortcuts" tab, instead of "Text boxes and lists only". As a result, whenever I activated the MiniPlayer, it had one of the control buttons already highlighted (generally, the Rewind button).
iTunes behaves as if the mouse is hovering over the player in response. The solution I originally found in this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/20438584#20438584) was to just press Tab a few times, until the Playback controls weren't highlighted, and the track info appeared. The other option is just to turn off "All controls" tabbing in the Keyboard Preferences, though this will require you to restart iTunes to get the MiniPlayer to behave properly (otherwise, some other function will be highlighted, and the space bar won't work for Pause and Play).
    Hope this helps.

  • Viewing Current Song in iTunes 10?

Is there a command for iTunes to show you the song that's currently playing (show it highlighted in a visible list in the browser window)? Suppose it's on shuffle and you are separately doing stuff in iTunes like making a different playlist. Can you somehow say, "hey, get me back to the current song and show me what it is"?

From iTunes Keyboard Shortcuts (in the Help menu):
Show where a song file is located
    Shift-Command-R
Show the currently playing song in the list
    Command-L

  • ITunes on mac shows stream songs on ipad which are not there

I use iTunes on my MacBook Pro to sync ratings and playlists with my iPad and iPhone.  After syncing I like to verify that the total count of songs matches that on the iPad and iPhone.
If I look at the number of songs on my Mac, and also look at the Music app on the iPad, they both display the same number of songs.
However...if I look at the Music "folder" under the iPad device in iTunes on the Mac when they are connected, I see a different count for the iPad.  After looking, it appears this is due to a number of "duplicate" listings for the iPad songs - all of which are grayed out, and are shown as "Stream" under the Size heading.
I am unable to delete those listings on the Mac iTunes side, and multiple reboots and syncs of both machines has failed to clear it up.  It appears to me this is a bug on the Mac iTunes side, since the iPad has the correct number, but it would be nice to clear it up.  Makes me nervous about syncing between the Mac and the iPad.  I am running OSX 10.8.5 on Retina MacBook Pro, and iOS 7 on iPad 3rd generation.
    Any ideas?
While I'm at it...does anyone know if I were to use iTunes Match (I don't currently) would it automatically sync BOTH ratings and playlists across my Mac, iPhone, and iPad??
I use ratings a lot in order to build playlists of top songs by genre, and currently the only way I know how to do it is through sync from the master database on the Mac, but I seem to have had a number of issues with the sync over the last couple years.
    Thanks!!

No, I never really found an easy solution.  I believe it is an issue with some corruption in the iTunes database on the specific device.  In my case, both my iPad and iPhone now show duplicate stream songs if viewed through iTunes on my Mac, but they show different songs.  A couple years ago I had a similar issue on my iPhone, and Apple support suggested I back up the phone, completely reset it, and then restore it from the backup.  It did work, so I imagine it would probably work for my current issues with the iPhone and iPad.  But resetting and restoring an iPad or iPhone always makes me a little nervous that something will get lost.  When I did reset/restore the iPhone, I do have to say, the restore process was 100% perfect and I did not lose any data at all even though Apple support said I might.  If you try to go that route, I would suggest backing the device up both to a computer through iTunes, and to the iCloud so that you have a double backup.
None of this really resolves the issue with how the iTunes databases are becoming corrupted on the apple devices though, so it is very likely to happen again until they fix it.  I have been unable to determine if there were any specific actions or conditions which caused the corruption to happen in the first place.
Might be worth another call to Apple support, or dropping in the local Apple store if you have one near by.

  • Go to current song

Why can I not 'go to current song' in a smart playlist anymore? Also why has the total amount of songs/time display gone?

Hmmmm. There does seem to a bug here.
If I have the Side Bar showing and start a playlist, then the CMD-L doesn't work properly. But if I turn the Sidebar off and use the PLAYLISTS pane, then it does work.
I have complained (a lot !!) to Apple about the obvious sloppy testing of this release. There are many examples of a lack of uniformity which need to be addressed and the only way to get them fixed properly is tell Apple about them.

  • "Go To Current Song" appears broken for playlists

"Go To Current Song" should take me to the current track and give it focus (i.e. highlight it). If I'm playing the song straight out of my library, it does the right thing; but if the song is in a playlist, it jumps to that playlist but does not highlight the track. Focus remains on the playlist in the left column (i.e. if I hit the arrow keys up/down the playlist changes).

In the last version of itunes, you could simply click the arrow next to the song to immediately jump to it, leaving all of your layout grid intact. As it stands now, it goes to the song playing, but jumps to a new layout and the playlists go away (if they are showing).  This is my problem.  I think i found a workaround for this. It's not as easy as pressing one button, but it works.  Here's what i  do:
    1. Go to "View" in the dropdown menu and toggle "Hide Sidebar" (cntrl-s).  This will put your layout back to what it used to look like on the last version, where your playlist is on the right side of the screen with the "Music, Movies, TV Shows, etc" all stacked up like they used to be.
    2. When you want to jump to a song, mouse over the song in the upper-middle window until the arrow appears.  Right Click on it (PC users), and select "Go To Song."  Voila, your layout stays the same and in the song list, you pop to your currently playing song.
Again, not as simple as one click of the arrow, but it works.  i still agree this is annoying and wish the old functionality worked.  i am a Dj and make a LOT of play lists and jump around to tracks quite a bit.  Apple, please fix this.  Thanks.  It might not be everyone's fix on this thread, but I hope this helps somone.

  • Go to current song (command L) is not working in itunes 11

Go to current song (command L) is not working in itunes 11, anyone having the same issue?

    Thanks for figuring that out.
I thought that command-L was working when I first switched to iTunes 11, but then it wasn't working anymore. That's the ticket: I changed the display to show the sidebar.
Still, I'd like to be able to use the command-L feature whether I'm showing the sidebar or not.
I'd also like it if iTunes would keep showing the currently playing song when in Grid or Artist view modes. It doesn't, so I have to keep using command-L to see the current song info.

  • Is "Go to Current Song" supposed to flash the song?

Since upgrading to iTunes 10.4 about a week ago, whenever I use "Go to Current Song", iTunes jumps to the current song and then flashes it (the background color changes from blue to gray and back a few times). It didn't do this before iTunes 10.4.
Does it happen to everyone else? Is this supposed to happen? Is there any way to disable it? It is annoying; I preferred the old way, especially since now, after the song flashes, it will sometimes have a blue background and sometimes a gray one, so it isn't even consistent with its design.

    Thanks for figuring that out.

  • Where did the current song listing go for iTunes Internet Radio?

I listen to internet radio on iTunes all the time, and I always loved being able to check the title and artist of whatever song was playing.  I just upgraded my iTunes to 11.1.3(8) and now the internet radio no longer shows me the title & artist of the current song.  Is there a way get that feature back?

Thank you Frederick! Now, a further question: for example under classic rock it shows 383 threads but in the list there are only 11 showing up. The stations I like to listen to are missing. Any light to shed? Thanks, Mark

  • Itunes 11 "go to current song" not working?

New layout in "albums" is cool.  However I want to let iTunes shuffle my library while I'm working with other things, and I expect iTunes should "go to current song" to display the album song list (and artwork) in which it's playing.
Now I have to press "command-L" to do that for each song, very annoying and unproductive.
Any things can do so that iTunes 11 will auto switch the display to the "current song"?

Found it. Right click on the up next menu to the right of the song name in the player window and select "Show in Playlist.
