Shortcut to change power plans

Everytime I want to change the power plan I need to enter in the power manger. It takes 3 seconds until it loads completely and then I need to select the power plan. I would like to know if it would be a way to change the power plans with a shortcut on the keyboard or something similar without entering the power manager.
Also, I noticed that entering in the power manager makes CPU going very high for some seconds.
I have a T400 2.53Ghz 4GRam and Windows 7 64bits

Fn+F3 is a good idea.

  • GS60 2PC changes power plan itself and always gone back to default

    Hi all
I bought this laptop from Taiwan so that is probably one of my power plan is random code.
The main problem I would like to ask is that when I changed to another power plan, it automatically changes back to this random coded plan. Why I want to change is because this random coded plan has PCI management as moderate power saving and maximum cpu as 70%, so when I am playing game it is very laggy with this plan. Even though I change the setting to higher performances, it automatically changes back to its default setting.... I tried to delete this plan but eventually it comes back as it changes automatically.
However, I found out that if i close the SCM programme it does not change the power plan automatically any more. But all my function keys will be disable if i close the SCM programme.
So I am wondering if anyone had the same issue as i do before could give me some helps. Because this really annoys me.. I have already tried recovering the system back to factory default.
Another problem is that my Sound Blaster Cinema does not change the sound effect even i open and close it.
I would like to show you some images for better understanding but somehow i am not able to upload them.
Thank you so much for your helps!

    How about this:
Switch ECO mode in SCM to OFF.  Then go to windows control panel set "High performance".
As for Sound blaster Cinema, have you enable sound effect in its control panel?
Hi, It actually stopped changing if i change it to ECO OFF mode! But why if i put in gaming mode it keep changing back to that random code mode and start lagging? Somehow i feel like not understanding what these modes are for. I thought it is same as changing to high performance in the battery option?
Also for the Sound Blaster Cinema yes i did turn on the sound effect.
    Thanks for you reply!

  • W540 Changing to Airplane Power Plan

Recently my W540 is changing to Airplane Mode Power plan automatically which I don't wont to occur.  It is plugged into a normal 240V wall plug.
How do I stop it from changing power plan mode which dims the screen and doesnt maintain charge.  I have tried disabling and deleted the power plan but it keeps coming back and changing!!!
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Tyron

I had the same issue.  Are you also using another software tool to control the power plan?  e.g. TuneUp utilities.  If yes, look for a software conflict, and disable the TuneUp optimization of the power plan.
Be careful with add on programs, many have redundant applications that interfere with the native OS drivers.

  • Power Plan in Power Manager keeps changing by itself

I have the latest 3.61 Power Manager installed in my T420.  I have deleted all the custom old power plans and recreated a new one from scratch.  However I notice at times from going to the dock, or removing from the dock or powering it via AC adapter or not, I dont know exactly when but it just randomly changes the Power Plan.  I go to Power Manager and notice no Power Plan is selected (nothing highlighted on the left when in Advanced mode).
If I go to the Power Options in Windows Control Panel I notice that its somehow on a different plan, just now I noticed its on "High Performance".  Not sure how that happens.
Is there something I need to do to have it sit on my custom plan that I have selected in Power Manager at ALL time and never change?  I cant delete these default plans that are in the Power Manager like Video Playback, Timers Off, Power Source Optimized, Maximum Battery Life.  I just want it to stay on a selected plan and never deviate from it as I have custom display brightness, sleep times, etc.

Seems like this seems to be a known issue on Windows7 and no fix to it from all the scouring I did on the internet searches.
This is one thread I came across on Microsoft where a ton of folks complaining about similar issues.
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7performance/thread/ea33e9aa-c98d-417e-bdd1-60a462...
So I guess this is "normal" function that it randomly changes settings and plans.  I guess I could go into all the windows plans and set them all alike that way if it does change a different plan, its still the same.  But if you read that thread above, you will see people actually complain the settings itself change as well, which Ive noticed as well.  I have the brightness on my custom plan set to 7 and somehow it always keeps magically changing to another value of like 4, 3 or anything.  Same with the Dimmed Brightness setting, randomly changes.

  • How to change power settings?

My G series Windows 8, 64-bit laptop keeps going to sleep after about 2 minutes while plugged in.  I changed the power settings via Windows 8 (by personalizing desktop and / or clicking on battery).  But it still keeps happening.  Is there another setting I need to change specific to Lenovo?  It's annoying as all get out, and frankly a little ridiclous I need to waste time tracking this down.
    Thank you.

There are a couple of free utilities that purport to intercept the power key, but neither of them work for me with Mavericks and a 15" Retina MacBook Pro:
    PowerKey
PowerBlock – I thought it might work with Mavericks contrary to what the site says because someone posted in another forum implying that it works with Mavericks.
AFAIK, Keyboard System Preferences cannot change the keyboard shortcut for the power key.
It'd be great if Apple gave us a way to prevent accidental Sleep, which can be a killer when doing something mission critical. I'm pondering removing the physical key altogether…

  • Power Plane Problem: Only one layer as an option.

    Dear all,
I try to use Create Power Plane tool as usually, but for some reason bottom layer is already selected and it can not be changed. I am using dual layer board, so there should be also top layer. I can draw traces and everything except the power plane on the top layer.
I have made many dual layer boards without any problems with Power Planes. I can't figure out what I am doing differently from the previous boards.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
    Try this:
    1.  Select Edit>>Selection Filter, disable all filters except for "Enable polygon", the default toolbars should have the filters option so you don't have to go back to the menu.
    2.  Select Edit>>Select All to select all copper area and power plane on the work area,
    3.  Press Delete,
Now try placing the power plane again.  If this doesn't work, please send me the file, I will see if I can fix it for you.  Create a service request at:

  • Shortcut for changing "from" field in Lion Mail?

I manage a number of email accounts from Mail, and frequently need to send messages from one account, and then another account, and then another account ... In Snow Leopard, I enjoyed creating shortcuts to change the "from" field of an outgoing message.  For example, in the keyboard system preferences pane, I assigned the command "My Name <[email protected]>" the shortcut of "SHIFT+CMD+X".  That way, while writing an email, if I noticed that it was about to send from the wrong account, I'd just hit the keystroke instead of grabbing my mouse.  Mail apparently knew what I was doing, because on the drop-down tab for "From", each of my mail accounts also showed the custom assigned shortcut.
This ability seems blocked in Lion.  Whenever I try to re-create these shortcuts in the preferences / application-shortcuts pane, they won't work!  What's worse, whenever I quite and re-open System Preferences, I find that my shortcuts have been re-assigned an extra open-bracket, such as: ">My Name <[email protected]>".
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Is it possible to re-create these shortcuts in Lion Mail?

    MOE O wrote:
So Entourage can go to the previous message?  How do you do that?
I can't stand that Mail always goes to the next newest message after deleting.
Every other email program I've ever seen (including Entourage - see below) can do this.  Why can't Apple?  I don't want to touch the mouse most of the time because it really slows down work to move ones hands back and forth.   I did a quick web search and found these shortcuts for all the major programs.  If you know of any other program besides Apple Mail that doesn't have this, let me know.
Until then, if Outlook, Outlook Express, Entourage, Sparrow, Postbox, and Thunderbird have had this, what's Apple's problem adding it?

  • Bug with currently selected and customised power plan.

I have reproduced this twice now. I customised my power plans (the balanced and power saver but not
the high performance). My personal settings are to never sleep and for sleep not to be an option. On two occasions I have returned to the PC and found it "shut down". The only way to reboot was via the main power on/off switch (its a laptop).
Checking the power plans shows that the "sleep after" settings have reverted to the Windows default on the in use and active power plan. The inactive plan retains its custom settings as can be seen.

    Hi Shivraj,
From your description, my understanding is that you want to change the power plan setting to high performance, right?
The benefit to set the server power plan setting to high performance is for SQL Server to have consistent, predictable and high performance.
According to the test in this article:
Windows Server Power Management Effect on SQL Server, when the Windows Server power plan is changed to High Performance, CPU core speed ramp
up, SQL Server parse and compile time and SQL Server execution time reduce, which will make SQL Server queries run
     faster.
However, if power savings are more important than fast, predictable performance, then you might leave the power plan as Balanced.
    Thanks,

  • Can I prevent a user from Deleting the Group Policy deployed power plan?

I have Power Manager version 3.20 installed and am using the Group Policy template to deploy a customized power plan.  I do not want my users to have the ability to delete this custom plan, but I cannot find the option in the Group Policy to change the setting that would grey-out the Delete button in Power Manager.
I have located the registry value that changes the function of Power Manager, it is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Lenovo\PWRMGRV\PowerSchemes\42617646-BC99-48E2-B3AF-C562C25F4098\ProhibitModification.  If the value is 0, then the delete button is available.  If the value is 5, then the delete button is greyed-out.
The problems is that the Power Plan ID number (the 42617646-BC99... part in the reg key above) changes from computer to computer.  That ID string seems to be tied somehow to the specific computer.  So, I cannot just create a Group Policy Preference to change that value in the registry, because that value is always going to have a different name.
The computers are all ThinkPad T400 model and are running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit.
Can anyone suggest a different method to change this setting?  If not, is there any chance that the Power Manager application can be upgraded to include this control?
    Thank you!

    welcome to the forum!
to add to what gan said, page 6 of the power manager deployment guide covers this policy over active directory.

  • How to edit Power plans (SCM power plans)

    Hello!
Like topic here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=250101.0 (where it's left unanswered and with error link)
I'm interested in, how to edit these power plans to get each time the same personalised power plan. I have noticed the EPS file but i can not edit it.
    Please help.
    Thank You

    Hi spam,
Don't bother with custom or "personalized" power plans as long as the SCM is running because the SCM overrides them.
The SCM uses the built-in power plans that come with Windows (balanced, high performance, power saver, etc.). They can be edited from Windows Power Options area. Use the "advanced" settings for full control.
We didn't want our power settings to ever change, so we manually configured all of the built-in power plans that came with Windows. They are all the same now and, regardless which Eco mode is selected in the SCM, our power plan settings stay the same.
    Kind regards, David

  • Is it possible to set GRoup Policy to prevent users manually changing Power Options?

    Hello,
We use Dell laptops and there is a very well known issue that certain models freeze when they are docked.
I have adjusted the power settings under high performance plan, and updated this in the group policy, which I have tested and is all fine.
Basically, on the laptops now, the users can still change it from the GPO plan to balanced or power saver if they want to.
Is there a way of setting group policy so the other power options are greyed out or cannot be used?
    Thanks!

    Hi!
If the user is a local administrator on the client they will be able to change the plans. (They changes will be reverted when logging off though)
But if they are standard users, it should be grayed out already.
Check this link for more information, if there is a step that you might have missed when configuring the GPO. (Three pages/Parts)

  • Power manager predefined power plans......

I really appreciate the Energy Star power plan but it disappeared after I apply it after " maximum performance"
and then both of them became " maximum performance" option.

How can I fix it? Thanks.

    Hi,
you can copy a content of one power plane <of registry folder> by using following steps:
    - export that particular key by right-click on it and selecting "Export"
    - save it on desktop or any other location
    - open this .reg file with Notepad and change the path from :
    HKEY_USERS\ S-1-5-21-2392-445047-1770621573-793653143-1000\Control Panel\PowerCfg\....
    to
    \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies\...
    - save the changes and doble-click the .reg file
    - this will pop up a window saying, if you want to save the registry change, just say yes, and you have it now imported in the correct location.
In case you want to have all the TVT applications installed on your system, then just download it from lenovo.com , or start ThinkVantage System update, which will update you system with some of them.
In case the Win7, that you are currently using was installed from the set of Recovery CDs, or it was delivered originally with the machine, then you have in the start menu, or in "My computer" the option, to create a set of original recovery CDs.
In case you have installed WIn7 with some of your own DVD (not Lenovo image), then there are multiple ways on how to get the image of your system:
=> one of the options would be Ghost or similar imaging tool, that will capture the whole system configuraiton of your system
=> the other option, that is also Lenovo related would be to user Rescue and Recovery. Just install it, and create a full backup of your system. You can store it on USB HDD, or on Network share, or on any other place.
Please feel free to ask any additional question to this topic.
    Cheers

  • Power Plan Hotkeys

In Windows 7, I can just click the power icon in the taskbar to choose a power plan. The ThinkVantage Power Manager works better, but I cannot adjust the power plan on the fly. Each time I have to open the Power Manager then change the power plan.
How could I add power plans to either
    a) a Windows hotkey ie CTRL+ALT+H ...
    b) the right click on the Power Manager icon in the taskbar
I like to reserve FN+F3 to shut off the display.
    T61p T7500, Quadro FX 570M, 4GB, 60GB Patriot Pyro, XP Pro
    X61t Tablet, L7300 Centrino vPro, Windows 7 Home 64-bit
    tpfancontrol installed on all systems

Unfortunately, I don't believe Power Manager offers the functionality you're looking for.  The closest thing you could do is to use Fn+F3 to switch power plans and use right-click on the Power Manager toolbar guage to Power off display.

  • Powercfg sets power plan with never sleep but system goes to sleep and locks the screen

I created a command (.bat) file that executes 'Powercfg -s 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c' where '8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c' is the class name for power option (HighPerf) that sets sleep to never. Then I created a scheduler's task to execute
this command file at specified time. The goal here is to switch at this time from power option that has sleep in 1 hour (Balanced) to the power option that never sleeps.
At the designated time the power option changes from Balanced to HighPerf but after some time computer both goes to sleep and locks the screen. I do not know whether this happens at the same time or not. It is just that when I get to my computer some time
(2 hours) later, it is in the sleep mode (the light on the power button is amber), I need to press the power button to wake it up and when it comes to life I find out that the screen is locked and I need to enter the password. When I open Control Panel it shows
that HighPerf power option is selected. Yet, the computer went to sleep and the screen got locked.
All this does not happen when I set HighPerf power option from the Control Panel.
I am using Dell XPS 8500 desktop with Windows 7 Home Premium, so battery and closed lid settings do not apply as they do not exist on this computer, so those settings are not at issue.
    Thank you
    Isa Ten

    Hi Isa,
Based on your goal "The goal here is to switch at this time from power option that has sleep in 1 hour (Balanced) to the power option that never sleeps.", why didn't you set the Balanced option to never sleep?
If you just ant it at one time to switch, you need another task to change back. Otherwise, it keep "never sleep" and "high perf"status.
Meanwhille, check your hibernate status of these power plan under sleep tab:
Power Options->Change Plan Settings->Change Advanced settings, you see a tap "Sleep"

  • Board outline / power plane clearance

How do I set the clearance between power planes and the board outline to 0?
I have tried setting options > pcb properties > copper layers > board outline clearance to 0 and changing the "clearance to copper areas" in the design rules to 0, but STILL there is a small space between the two. How do I correct this?
    thankyou
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi PGO,
There are two places you need to change:
    1.  options > pcb properties > copper layers > board outline clearance
    2.  Double click on the copper area then select the "General" tab, change the "Clearances" spin box to 0.
You should talk to your manufacturer, many of them do not recommende doing this
