Shortcuts in Numbers 09

Does anyone know how to make a shortcut for ex. the keystroke sequence for opening a Formula Cell ?
I'm doing often and it is a lot of keystrokes in large sheets. The operation in Numbers is:
Alt+Return then Shift+Left arrow then Alt + Return and right arrow !

As you know, I never use PC products.
So the keyboards which I know are Apple ones.
If I remember well, on US keyboards you have _option ⌥_ key .
In Europe we had these keyboards for years but since about six years the Apple keyboards have no longer this key but a _alt ⌥_ one.
So, for European users reading a question about _Alt key_ doesn't send us on the bad old PC track

  • Shortcut using Numbers App

Is there a shortcut for entering today's date in Numbers spreadsheet?

    THanks, but no go.
when I open spreadsheet attachment, only option is in lower right hand corner-- a box with arrow. When I touch this icon it gives me a choice to open in Safari or Cancel. No white dots.
PLs be really basic with your response to me. I thought I am pretty computer literate but this has be baffled.
THanks. I'm sure there is something "simple" that I'm missing.

  • What happened to shortcuts in numbers

There used to be short cut keys displayed when you went to Numbers - Table -  Add Row Above.   I didn't memorize at the short cut keys, so where did it go?  It is still there for many of the other items, like Edit - Undo.   It appears that everything under the TABLES drop down no longer shows the short cut keys.  I just updated my numbers, so perhaps its hidden somewhere I am not familiar with.  thanks!!!

In your menu Help > Keyboard Shortcuts you'll find an extensive list.
If there is a menu pick that isn't on the list and you'd like to assign a shortcut to it, you can do so in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts.

  • Application Shortcuts for Numbered Keyboard

I just replaced my wireless keyboard with a wired one that had a number pad and extra F keys (F13 - F19).  Im trying to make these F keys shortcuts for opening applications.  Ive used the obvious "application shortcuts" in the keyboard control menu, but it doesnt seem to do anything.
Am I missing an obvious step?
    Thanks!

You might try one of these keyboard remapping programs.
    Glad you like it!
Here is my other most favored application. Of course, I haven't checked these out in newer OS's. I'm a Tiger man myself.
iKey is a front end program that simulates typing and mouse movements. I use iKey to remap the Function keys.

All you have to do is put together three necessary parts of a shortcut: One or more commands that give the shortcut its functionality, a context in which it runs, and a launcher that defines how the shortcut is activated."

iKey  has a little more function then the previous free version called youpi key. For many years, I used youpi key before switching to iKey.  It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported.  The youpi key download is hard to find & no longer here.

( Send me a message for a copy of youpi  key. )
    *Examples:*
I have the common programs that I use assigned to function keys. I have F4 assigned to Firefox. When I want to start FireFox, I press F4. When I want to switch to firefox, I press F4! Starting & switching to an application in Mac OS are the same thing in Mac OS.
Here is an example of to assign volumn control to a function key.

Here is my script for listing my application folder. I have it assigned to function-key 6.
    tell application "Finder"
open folder "Applications" of startup disk
       select Finder window 1
       set bounds of Finder window 1 to {-3, 44, 691, 545}
       --set position of Finder window 1 to {33, 44}
       set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
       activate
    end tell
The second portion of this script was generated in the script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some editing, I copy the script to ikey/youpi key.

  • Numbers ignores previously defined custom keyboard shortcut

I used the System Preferences->Keyboard to set a keyboard shortcut for Numbers. I defined ^; to insert the current date: "Date & Time". It worked fine, until the next time I started Numbers. The short cut was shown in the menu, but it would not respond to the keyboard. I went back the to the Keyboard Preferences and set it again, while Numbers was running, and it worked. I repeated a few different ways, essentially I have to redefine the Keyboard shortcut after each time that I start Numbers, even though the menu shows the appropriate shortcut. Is this a known bug or do I have another problem?

  • How to edit content in a cell - how can u set a shortcut to do that

so i have been left clicking to change the content. how do you do that on the keyboard? i found a list of shortcuts under some menu in numbers, but i couldnt set the shortcuts myself
thanks alot, this will save me soooo much time

There is a partial solution to this that will allow you to enter the formula editor for any selected cell from the keyboard:
    1. In System Preferences, select the "Keyboard Shortcuts" section of the Keyboard & Mouse" preference.
    2. Click the plus box button below the list to add a shortcut.
    3. In the drop down sheet, from the "Application:" popup that defaults to "All Applications," choose Numbers if it is listed (it probably will not be) or if not, scroll to the end of the list & select "Others..." & navigate to Numbers in the Application folder & choose it. (The basic idea is to create an application-specific keyboard shortcut for Numbers.)
    4. In the "Menu Title:" text box type "Formula Editor" (without the quotes)
    5. Select the "Keyboard Shortcut:" box & press the keys for the desired keyboard shortcut. This can be anything that includes one or more modifier keys (Command, Control, Option, etc.), but to prevent conflicts, choose something not already in use & not something that would be a character you would want to enter in a cell.)
    6. Click the "Add" button, then scroll down in the shortcuts list window to the "Application Keyboard Shortcuts" section, click the triangle to show them, & check that the shortcut is listed, & that not yellow warning triangle appears, signifying a shortcut conflict.
    7. If Numbers is running, quit & relaunch it so that the shortcut will take effect.
As noted above, this only helps with cells that have, or will have, formulas in them. It works exactly like the menu command Insert>Function>Formula Editor: If the cell does not currently have a formula but some literal value, the formula popup will not include it, & if you then click the "Accept" button, type a return, tab, etc., the literal value will be replaced. If the cell already has a formula, the formula popup will not replace it but instead will move the insertion point to after the last character in the existing formula.
The same technique will work for adding keyboard shortcuts to any other Numbers menu item.
Had there been an "Enter cell editor" (or something like that) menu command, presumably this would have allowed a complete solution, but there doesn't even seem to be an official name for doing that -- the documentation refers to it only procedurally, as in 'click again' or the like. Obviously, there is no need for the menu item other than for this, so a complete solution will have to wait for a new version of the app.

  • Keyboard shortcuts... cum pad doesn't work like it should

    hello.
i'm on osx using indesign cs4.
in indesign all the shortcuts involving numbers like fit spread to window, etc do not work. i can assign shortcuts to the numb keys but no modifiers. but also when i enter the key instead of "1" showing up, it says "Num 1". illustrator and photoshop work as expected, but not indesign. this has been an issue since i maybe cs2, i just never bothered to inquire about it. several years later, different computer different version and i'm still having the same issue.
if anyone can help, i highly appreciate it.
    thanks

In ID the keys on the number pad are reserved for style shortcuts. You must use the numbers on the top row of the qwerty pad for everything else.

    Hello,
I have done a similar business scenario containing serial no.
    initial requirements:
Hopefully you are maintaining all this.
    1) Material should have serial profile assigned.
    2) While craeting stock for material in MB1c create serial nos
    3) Pass the same serial no in Outbound delivery .
Your IDoc Should contain Segment E1EDL11 (this is for serial nos)
in outbound as well as the same nos are been passed to inbound Idoc automatically
and if you will ,open the inbound delivery . you will find the same serial nos.
Try this way, if have any further questions please get back to me.

  • Help with a keystroke shortcut

When I am editing fields, I would like to be able to move to a field using tab or enter, etc... and then edit the field without having to click on it or delete the current entry. In Excel, I click F2... Is there any such shortcut in Numbers?

    Sorry,
I need to clarify my question. I understand how my tab and arrows move me around a worksheet. But, if I have a cell that has in it "sum(b1:b8)" and I wish to change that to "sum(B1:B10)" then I can get to that cell using my arrows, BUT, how can I edit that cell without having to either A) Delete (or overwrite) the cell and start anew or B) Use my mouse to click in the cell and thus only delete the term that I wish to change.
In Excel, you can click F2 and immediately have the cursor at the end of the field where I can then make alterations without re-writing the whole field.
    Thanks,
    Keith

  • Keyboard shortcuts to get at the start/end of the line

    Hi everyone!
I'm looking for a keyboard shortcut in Numbers that will select the cell at the start of a line or its end, not only moving the screen. But there is no mention of such a shortcut in the user's guide. Did I miss something ?
Also, is there something similar for a column ?
    Thanks

    Hi TheMoose,
I've looked in Help > Keyboard Shortcuts, User guide, and the Numbers 291 page PDF file for those shortcut keys but cannot find them.
Let's hope someone smarter than I will jump in to assist you.

  • Z10 Product Improvement Ideas: Peak, Flow and Navigation

Note sure what the best way to get some ideas across to Blackberry but since I've been using my Z10, there are a few ways that I think that navigation and application access can be improved. Sometimes I feel that you need to perform one too many swipes to get to something, often used features are hidden, navigation techniques are inconsistent (i.e. Accessing the hub, calendar and phone) or you have to make one more button press than necessary.
I've been a BB fan for years and have had many models. Want to see Blackberry succeed. Own stock. Got the Z10 first day. Got 4 coworkers to get the Z10. Big promoter.
Here are my suggestions and maybe with enough support, we can get a few adjustments made that improve the overall user experience and make us way more efficient. I also think that Blackberry can retain its innovation in peek and flow while still giving us alternative access that we are used across different devices such as our Ipads, playbooks, Desktops, etc. A couple items will be repeated depending on the suggestion type.
    1. Calendar needs to be a core feature and should always be open and accessible instantly at a click or a swipe. Access to the calendar is not easy as I think it should be. Four ways that Calendar could be more accessible:
    a) Have a calendar button next to phone, search and camera buttons
    b) Support a swipe action of some sort (perhaps upwards and to the left (opposite of the hub))
    c) Add calendar button to the mini-swipe/scroller menu that is available in the active apps or application screen
    d) It should be clickable and launchable on the hub either on the bottom menu or as a hub filter item. Having upcoming events appear by scrolling to the top of my hub items is convenient but not what I am talking about.
    e) Directly from the lock screen. I should be able to click and hold on the calendar event to launch my calendar.
    2. Phone calling is a core feature and needs to be launchable from the hub, the mini-swipe/scroller bar, the applications pages (as an icon) and also from the lock screen similar to the calendar (ie hold the button down). In the hub you can filter on missed/all calls but it only acts to give you a call log and not any other phone feature. Launching through the hub should provide full features.
    3. Phone and Hub should both be accessible from the applications pages as an application icon. This allows me to access hub and phone in a similar manner to my other applications and also reduces the learning curve for those used to the iphone (easier adoption). I can create logical visual organization of my applications and I can essentially put the calendar, phone and hub next to each other. I really like consistent access and behaviour and this would help.
    4.  Hub should be available in the active applications like everything else is. It is the only feature that isn't.
    5. I dislike the fact that the Hub filter opens and closes after I make a selection. I would like to be able to click on the BBM icon and see my BBM messages, then quickly click on my Texts, then my mails. I think the filters should always stay open in the mini mode unless I shrink it. i.e. Click to open filter mode with icons only, drag again to stretch and see the icons with names (I think most of us know what the icons represent anyway) and click or swipe to close the filters menu. With the menu always open, I can view all content types by themselves very quickly.
    6. Hiding the delete button  in the extended menu is not efficient. If I'm looking at a photo, reading and email, reading a text just let me delete immediately. It is an action that I do enough that it should be as available as the back, forward, reply to all buttons. Save me the additional clicks.
    7. When I launch the phone, I want the number keypad open. I don't want to launch the phone and then have to click again to get to the phone pad. The speed dial screen should not be shared with the missed calls. There should be a new screen with a dedicated button.
    8. I've found that once you set up your speed dial or world clocks, you can't edit the order. This means you are stuck with the order that you added the items and have to start from scratch if you want to re-order. This is frustrating. I don't have the ability to think about order that early. Anyone notice that when you add a phone number to speed dial, it might use a different contact than you selected if that other contact has the same number?
    8. We should be able to shortcut phone numbers to the application pages the same way we can shortcut web pages. This gives me the ability to create folders, organize phone numbers and make calls quickly. Again, learning curve for iphone converts and consistency.
    9. Alarm needs to be accessible easier. It can be an application icon accessible in the applications menu. Clicking on the alarm clock icon on the top should open the alarm clock, similarly, clicking on the wifi should open wifi menu, battery should give me percentage, and maybe a quick Bluetooth on and off. Potentially support a notifications quick menu too.
    10. We should be able to put the phone to sleep with a long swipe from the top. I don't get why you need to get to sleep mode by first locking with the top button, getting to the lock mode and then swiping down the curtain. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?
    11. When searching in the hub, I have to clear the search to get back to an unfiltered view. Why not a quick swipe to the right? Why when I'm searching in the hub does the bottom menu disappear? I should be able to interact with those items the same way without opening the items.
    12. On the lock screen, I want quicker access to different things through three swipe actions. A swipe up opens my applications page, a swipe left opens the hub, a swipe right opens my applications page. I need to be able to open the calendar from the lock page (long press on the calendar event) and I need to be able to launch the phone (add an icon for the phone (like the camera)). Long press of the voicemail, notifications, emails, bbm or texts opens those screens.
    13. Why iis there no email or missed calls preview from the lock screen like the good old days of the torch. I want to know if I should even need to unlock the phone for the new events (is this a security issue?).
    14. The mini-swipe/scroller bar should appear in the hub, active applications and application pages (currently it is only on the latter two). It is a cool features. As per above, it should include calendar and phone.
    15. Active applications should allow pinning and re-ordering. i.e. I lock an open application in place and then I can re-order through drag and drop. Pinning isn't my idea but I like it a lot.
    16. Cool idea. If we allow users to save the layout of an active applications page, they can essentially launch 8 applications in one go in the future. i.e. You save a layout with a name and then you close the entire layout and reactivate it when you want through a list. Very powerful.
That's it for now. Would be super happy to see these adopted and interested in seeing who else has ideas, likes these ideas and hopefully with enough support maybe BB will look at these seriously. Hope they look at them.

    Hi Meredith,
Thought we had everything solved, however the failure to merge to HDR is solved. But the fix causes many problems. Now you can get to the final HDR picture however making small modifications will slow the computer to a crawl. The hourglass blinked for 5 minutes just to make a small highlight change.
What were the preferences restored by deleting the preference file and having Photoshop reload the defaults. These are the ones I am sure about.
    my settings                           default
    memory usage was 80-85%   now 49%  (834 -838 mb)
animated zoom was off            now on
save in background off             now on
graphic processor on basic      now off
    cursors others precise            now standard
transparency grid size small    now medium
By turning up memory to 50% or higher increase (1% or more) the merge to HDR screen opens as a black picture. Progress bar disappears and reappears as loading but Merge to HDR finishes with exception of black picture to start with. Click on 32 bit and.the picture appears. Local Adaption doesn't work !
Turned ON graphics card on NORMAL ,..memory back to 49% .  Merge to HDR works and local adaption works. Appears not to be slow (graphics card helping now) Process bar turns on and off during Merging to HDR
Resetting all my preferences except memory (at 49%  838 MB) Merge to HDR works with the exception of a progress bar that disappears and reappears.
In conclusion with Windows XP 32bit and 4g installed (windows seeing 3g):
Memory over 49%+ GPU on =fail and progress bars turns on and off
Memory 49% + GPU off= black window and Local Adaption fails
Memory 49% + GPU on = Everything works but process bar turns on and off
    GPU On= process bar failure
GPU off= process bar works but slow
Memory over 49%=Merge to HDR failure
Interesting note is that at a 40% memory setting Merge to HDR failed too
    Thanks,
    Meredith

  • Add a new cell

add a new cell in a column before other cells that have content in them.  In excell it is very easy to do.

In Excel you can add a cell to the left because the whole sheet is an endless number of cells. In Numbers the number cells is defined by the width and height of the table (columns and rows). If you could add just a cell to the left the would be a lone cell sticking outside of the table. So if you need to add a cell to the left you are adding a column to the left.
The shortcut (in Numbers 3, I'm not sure about earlier versions) is to click in the cell where the number you want to move to the right is, hold down the option key and hit the left arrow on your keyboard. You can also click on the column and add row before.

  • How to Enter Today's Date?

    Hello,
In Excel, "ctrl-;" enters the current date. Is there such a command in Numbers? I haven't found it yet. . .
    Thanks!
    Michael Morrison

    Michael,
you don't need to enter a character. Just double-click in a cell and then choose "Insert/Date & Time".
Well, actually you click once to select a cell and then click once to edit the content (according to Help/Keyboard Shortcuts).
    To add a keyboard shortcut:
Open System Preferences / Keyboard & Mouse
    Choose Keyboard Shortcuts tab
Scroll down to Application Keyboard shortcuts
    Choose Add (the plus symbol)
In the drop-down box at Application, scroll down and choose Other…
Navigate to the iWork '08 folder and choose Number
In the Menu Title: field enter "Date & Time" (without ")
    Add you desired Keyboard Shortcut
Restart Numbers and check the Insert menu for your shortcut
Now, just double-click a cell (or use option-Return on a marked cell) and apply your shortcut.

  • Editing characters in cell

How do we edit characters in a cell without double clicking with the mouse. In Excel F2 key allows editing of characters within the cell. Is there a keyboard shortcut in numbers to activate the cursor within a cell

    Hi Santaklawze,
    Welcome to discussions.
The answer to your question is: Option Return or Option click in the cell. Yes not the same as Excel. Your question has been asked numerous times.
The above information is taken from using the Search function in these discussions. Being as you're relatively new to Numbers discussions please accept my suggestion to do the following:
    1. In the upper right of Discussions, just below Search Discussions more options, click in the Search box type your request such as, in cell editing or some such.
    2. Press Return
    3. Change Restrict by Category or Forum: to iWork > Numbers,
    4. Change Restrict by Date Range: to All,
    5. Click search; you'll receive many hits. That's where I found the answer to your question.
Looking through them would have solved your issue. Prior to posting a question use Search, many other questions have been asked, their answers will provide direct solutions, tips, or workarounds.
Also use the regular Apple Support as well; http://www.apple.com/search/support/. Also, then click Help > Numbers User Guide, it contains much useful information. Also use the regular Numbers Help as well.
After doing all that if you cannot find your question or an appropriate answer to your question then by all means ask your question. Truly we'll be pleased to assist you.
These Discussions are user helping user, not Apple employees answering the question. Questions will be answered when a user such as yourself finds time, desires to, knows the answer along with the time to respond.
Again, welcome to Numbers Discussions, have fun here.
    Sincerely,

  • Repeat Function Key (F4 in Excel)

Is there a repeat function shortcut in Numbers?
For instance, if I insert a row and then want to move down a couple of rows and insert another, is there a shortcut key? Or do you have to use the mouse and table menu?
In Excel the shortcut is F4. It repeats the last function. It is incredibly useful if you are doing a lot of spreadsheet manipulation.
It seems that Numbers is not designed for heavy spreadsheet use, unless I am missing something. I have been trying to adopt for my accounting work for six months. Everything just seems to take longer than in Excel. I am being patient since I have been an Excel guy for 20 years.
    Thanks for your help!

For instance, if I insert a row and then want to move down a couple of rows and insert another, is there a shortcut key? Or do you have to use the mouse and table menu?
    Hi Michael,
Although I can see where 'repeat action' might be a useful addition in some cases, 'Insert row' is not one of them. Insert row may already be accomplished with a simple key combination—option-down arrow (to insert below the selected row) or option-up arrow (to insert above the selected row). Not much would be gained by substituting a 'repeat last action' keyboard command.
For your second example, Delete Row, Jerry's suggestion is an example of creating a personal application specific keyboard shortcut. Such a shortcut can be created for any top level menu item for which a shortcut does not already exist, using the method outlined in Jerry's post. Restriction: you can't use a keypress combination that has already been defined.
