Shorter Document Body on First Page?

I am tryiing to understand how Pages decides to make the Document Body shorter on the first page of a document.  Do this in Pages 5:
File→New.
Reports→Project Proposal→Choose
⌘-A.  Delete Everything.
You will see that the resulting Document Body does not occupy the entire page.  How would you make it occupy the entire page?

Hi, Yves. How's Belgium?
You don't want your page number showing on your first page, but you do want it on the second page and thereafter, correct? Here's what you do.
Click on Inspector. Then go into layout inspector, which is second from the left. See the "configuration" section? Click on "First page is different". Now, in your document, on your second page header (or footer, whichever), use the insert dropdown and click on "Page Number". You should see a "2" in your header on page 2 and nothing on page one.
That should do it.

Are you sure?   I believe the mail program only previews the first page for you, but sends the whole attachment.  Try opening the attachment (e.g., select and hit spacebar for a preview of the whole thing, or by double-clicking it, or control-clicking then "Open...")  You should see the whole document.

It's sounding like you are having problems with PDF in Adobe Reader on a Macintosh. Is that correct? If so, you should ask in this forum:

  • Everytime I go back on document to the first page I get a "Document Expired" message. This a ROYAL PITA; how can I fix this?

This problem occurs on most every website I use and is now getting to be very maddening. Is there anyway to fix this other going to another browser, which I would prefer not to do.

It sounds like you have chosen a publishing template rather than a word processing template. There are two basic modes in MS Word: word processing and publishing layout. Word processing mode (and all word processing templates) have a continuous text box in the page for writing text. The publishing layout mode (and publishing templates) are documents that have text boxes placed for articles, titles, pictures, etc. Be sure to choose the word document template and you’ll get what you expect. Do not choose the word publishing document.

  • Open to the first page in a document

Adobe Acrobat, reader and creator, both default to open a multiple page document, showing the page that was highlighted at the time that the document was saved. As a result, the next document viewer will see a page somewhere in the middle of the document when first opening that document. If that next viewer is not aware of where this page is in relation to the rest of the document he will not scroll up to the top to view the document from the first page. We have this happening on a regular basis with users who are not aware of the page thumbnails view option. Is there a way to set Acrobat (reader and creator) to default to always open to the first page in a document regardless of what page it was on at time the document was saved?

For Acrobat X I went to Tools - Pages - and the delete choice was grayed out.  I thought I could get the same result by using the Print to Adobe PDF command.  From any other application I can print to Adobe PDF, just not in Acrobat.  Does Acrobat X not let you do this, or is it just on mine?  And if it is only on mine, what do I do to fix it?  By the way, I am able to delete pages from other documents, just not the particular document I am currently working with.
    Any other suggestions anyone?

  • When I attach a PDF document in mail only the first page appears. How do I get the whole document to work

Title says it all. I go to attach file add the fild and the first page shows up in the body of the email. How do I get the whole document to show up?

You can't get the whole document to appear on your side.
When you send it, the entire document will be sent.  Normally, clicking on it will open it in preview where you can see all pages.  If you want to see it in this way, just cc: or bcc: yourself on the email when you send it.

  • In Pages '09, how do I remove the header from the first page of the document in a page layout document?

Working Pages '09, I am trying to set up a multi-page document using page layout  (not a word processing document, because I'll be using lots of graphics and text boxes), with headers and footers, but no header on the first page, as this will be the title page. The layout>section pane has the 'First page is different' option  greyed out (because it's a word processor only option). Help tells me that each page is it's own section in page layout, but there is no way to have one page without a header and all the others with, as far as I can tell. Am I completely missing something or is there a way around this?
Also, I want to do this again for additional chapters in the document (or else, I believe, be forced to manually start page numbering for each chapter in a new document).
    Cheers.

Hi, Barry. I don't know why this solution didn't work for me :-\ Does it matter that my page numbers are in the footer and not the header? When I follow your direction, the pages do get numbered differently. My problem occurs with the last step.
    1. Open the Inspector. (Check!)
    2. Click the Layout button (second from left). (Check!)
    3. Click Section. (Check!)
    4. Make the two settings shown: (Check!)
    5. Go to Page 1 and delete the contents of the Header. (When I do this, the content for all footers is deleted...)
    I really appreciate your insight.

  • How to delete the first page from a large number of documents

    Hello all,
My company has migrated from Adobe Acrobat pro 8 to 11. In version 8 we had
used Document Processing to remove the first page from all pdf's within a
directory (5000+). This process took about an hour.
Now my research has led me to use Actions in version 11, however it appears
that the action require each document to be open and saved (one after another)
in Acrobat in order for the first page to be removed.  This thrashing has made this process very
slow to the point where it's useable.
Is there any way to run actions from the command line
so time isn't wasted opening up each document in Acrobat?
Is there another way to quickly remove the first page
    from a PDF in bulk?
I'm outside my expertise area here, so if you need any additional
    information let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

Indeed, batch processing in Acrobat XI is inferior in many ways to what it was previously.
    To answer your questions:
    1. No.
    2. Yes, it can be done using a stand-alone app much more quickly and more efficiently, but it's somewhat more complicated to develop such an app than to set up an Action in Acrobat.

  • How can I remove the page number from the first page of the document that is the cover page?

How can I remove the page number from the first page of the document that is the cover page?

If you open the Pages panel, (Window>Pages) you will see thumbnails of your master pages and your document pages. In new documents, there is usually a master called A-Master and one called None. If you drag the thumbnail of the None master onto the thumbnail of a document page, it will apply that master to that page. Presumably, you have made your page numbers on A-Master, so this will usually do the trick. If you have elements on A-Master that you need on the first page, but just not the page number, you can duplicate A-Master (which, by default will give you B-Master, but you can change the names if you like) and remove the page number on the duplicate and apply that to the document page.
It might also be worth noting that you can apply master pages in the fly-out of the Pages panel. Go to the fly-out triangle and go down to Apply Master to Pages…, then select a master to apply and the range of pages (1-8 will give you all 8, 1, 3, 5, 7 will be the odds, 1-3, 4, 6-8 if you want continuous ranges and individual pages).

  • How do I delete just the first page of a document?

A long time ago (2005) I made a document over 200 pages long - and now I need to edit it, specifically to delete the first (empty) page of the documet, so when I add a separate cover, the first page will be on the right, where it should be. I shall also need to edit/change the page numbering and TOC to match. It has been so long since I used Pages that I don't remember how to do this.
I tried selecting the first page in the sidebar vertical list of the pages and hitting the Delete button (or using the menu option) but this seems to want to delete the entire document, not just the selected page.
I know this sounds simple, but I can't figure out how to do it. Pages Help just says to delete the content, but there is no content on the page.

Either you have a lot of Pages breaks which you can delete or you have aded a Pages break which you also can delete. Turn on the invisible characters View > Show Invisibles. You will see blue characters.

  • How do I print the first page of numerous documents?

    Computer setup:
Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.10 on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
    User experience:
I consider myself proficient in office (Excel, Word) and software use in general (Windows XP). The extent of my Adobe Acrobat experience is creating custom dynamic stamps. I have little to no javascript programming knowledge.
    Problem:
Numerous pdf files in multiple directory locations must have the first page of each document printed.
    Current (and time-consuming) solution:
Copy the files to a single directory
Use Acrobat Pro to combine files and individually select the first page for each document
    Combine and print.
    Tools
Filename Extractor (can be used to extract the filename OR filename and path of documents)
    Bonus Points
An index of all documents exists in Excel format. Documents are selected for printing by filtering this Excel index. The Excel index will have a column containing the path of each document. A solution that can utilise this path information to shortcut the time-consuming "copy and paste" method currently used will attract bonus points.
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

Create a batch process the executes the following JavaScript code:
    this.print({nStart:0, bUI: false, bSilent: true});
It will silently print the first page of any file you batch. Be careful not to overload your printer's queue by sending too many files in one go.

  • In my portfolio, one document of 6 pages, only the first page appears and i can't move to the other

    Am making
up a portfolio of different pdfs. 1 document has 6 pages, but I can only see the first page. When I worked on it at home, an arrow
appeared at the  bottom of the first page by which I could move to the other pages. Now here at work, there is no arrow and it is just stuck on the first page. I am working with Acrobat X.
    Many thanks for any suggestions.

    Bernd,
We saw an "Attach Files" button on Laura's page the other day, though others of us could not figure out how to display it.  It is apparent to me that Laura and Cathy have this "Attach Files" button showing up in their reply pages, but it sounds like this is happening in error.  Laura provided this screen capture:

  • How do I print only the first page of multiple PDF documents?

I have about 1,500 PDF files (scientific papers) that I need to print only the first page of... Any suggestions on how to do this as a single job or as a few jobs? The files are organized in a bunch of different folders, so if there was some way to do this folder by folder, that would be ok too. Thanks!

Make sure that in System Preferences Printing & Fax pane you set the default printer to the one you want to use, then put all of these PDF files into their own folder, then open terminal and type the following (without hitting return afterward):
    lpr -o page-ranges="1-1"
Then drag one of the PDF files into the terminal window (it will add it's path to the end of your command) and replace the file name with *.pdf, so it will look like this:
    lpr -o page-ranges="1-1" /Users/todd/Documents/My\ Folder/*.pdf
    Then hit return.
