Shot/edited in 16:9 - TV want 4:3

We have been shooting and editing weekly shows in 1080i HD 16:9 - the TV station was supposed to have cut over to 16:9 but they haven't yet.
I have quite a few shows "in the pipe" edited down to 16:9 - can some kind souls tell me how to use Compressor 4 to produce (non-cropped) output that will not be distorted when broadcast in 4:3 please? I accept we'll get the black bands top and bottom.
I have got as far as the geometry pane but all my effort so far stay in 16:9
Is there something about the (presumably square) pixel ratio I'm not doing I wonder?

But the Library is not a program. I use SuperDuper, and it is smart enough to treat Finder Packages (such as the Library) as a whole bunch of files and folders, and overwrites only those that have changed. Can't CCC be set up the same way?

I already own the Student/Teacher Edition CS6 Photoshop Extended and want to buy the Design Standard Student/Teacher edition in order to add In-Design and Illustrator to my Mac. My concern is that, since Photoshop is included in the Design Standard collection, will my pre-existng copy of Photoshop keep me from getting a serial number/license on the other two products since I know you can only puchase one product per student? I was just hoping someone could clarify this for me before I spent money on something that I may not can use. I really want In-Design and Illustrator and this is my cheapest route as a student.

There will not be any issues, while you are installing the Adobe CS6 Design Standard, you would not have an option to install Adobe Photoshop CS6 as its already installed.
Alternatively, You may de activate and uninstall the Adobe Photoshop CS6(curently installed) and keep it as a back up and use the Photoshop which is a part of Adobe CS6 Design Standard.

Can you ripple tool multiple shots/edits in FCP7?

i'm editing a few weddings and it's driving me a bit nuts!
they're just picture montages to music, audio removed, so no sound synch to worry about
i want to put 1 second dissolves on every shot but to do that i have to make the shots shorter at the in and out of every shot, as without doing this the shots don't have enough footage at the start and end
but if it's every cut that means i have to manually ripple the in and out of each shot before i apply the dissolves - literally hundreds!
is there a way to select every shot and then make the in/out of every shot shorter by the same amount?
that would help sooooo much
this is the way i edit these weddings, for speed:
pull every shot, uncut, into the timeline (they're shot pretty well so not much stuff to cut out), then i shorten the shots at the top and tail to add dissolves, and then time it/finesse it to the music from there, then done
finding a way to trim all the shots together would save me sooo much time so i hope someone can help!

Thanks Shane was just wondering if there was a way round, the weddings are shot pretty slick so I don't even open them in the viewer, just pull all the shots into the timeline and add dissolves there, as there are hundreds of them.
Was just hoping there was a way to select every shot in the timeline and then ripple the start/end of every shot so I could add dissolves to all of them.
When you've done it manually on every shot (or opened each shot in viewer like u say) it's v time consuming and wrist heavy!
It's a real production line situation, rather than a very creative edit, was just hoping for a way to do it that would save me literally hours!

How do I make 16:9 quicktime movies of footage shot & edited in widescreen

I just finished editing a project that was shot in Widescreen. I want to export a 30 second clip from it to put in a DVD SP menu Drop Zone
When I go to File --- Export ---- Current Settings I export it and it makes a quicktime movie. No problem.
When I open up that file using QT on my desktop, it is still in 4:3 mode.
When I put that quicktime into DVD SP menu that is 16:9, it plays in 4:3 mode.
How can I make a Quicktime Movie that is widescreen, plays in Quicktime Widescreen, and when I bring it into DVD SP plays Widescreen in a Drop Zone of a menu that is widescreen.

You can either make the dimensions of your export 16:9 or export an anamorphic 4:3 qt and make sure the anamorphic flag is turned on for the qt. Not sure how consistent fcp is in doing this, but you can always open the exported qt in qtplayer and change the display aspect ratio.

Edit Templates With Multiple Languages (want to see all templates)

I have the following problem:
I want to edit this template:
On my old windows pc I can see all three templates (German, English & French) one below the other! Which is important, because I need to edit each one, how ever it is only one file!
Now, with Dreamweaver CC for Mac I can only see the following:
The two anchors indicate the two other languages. I can see the underlying code, yet I can't see the template. Now on my old version of Dreamweaver I would not see the anchors, I would see the same template in English and then in French.
I hope this describes the problem enough to understand and help me.

E.g there might be sophomores,seniors etc.Then I have to add these levels to every member department like math sophomore,math senior etc..
That's why I think is better to create another dimension for sophomores,seniors etc. and you memorize the data in the combination of all this dimension (faculty_dep, key figures, etc.) without an huge increase of the combinations.
I already used it.However, I must be able to use property instead.
To do this use a combination of EVPXR, EVSET and EVENE as I wrote before, please see the application help for details

You have to use your credit card and make a few purchases before you can get the "None" option.

Every time i try to edit a pic Elements 11 wants me to install a trial version.

I installed Elements 11 using a fresh version bought at West Chester Univ book store. Now every time I run it it wants me to install a trial verison and then it locks up.

Photos as well as video can be included in a video production in Premiere Elements. Although some adjustments can be made to photos in Premiere Elements, significant editing of photos is done in Photoshop Elements (the photo editor). Likewise, in Photoshop Elements (photo editor), there is essentially no video editing done there. One exception, you can do freeze frames from video via the Photoshop Elements Full Editor/File Menu/Import/Frames from Video.
Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are standalone programs. Each comes with an Elements Organizer. When both these programs are on the same computer, they share the same Elements Organizer catalog. Elements Organizer has a slideshow feature (Windows) which allows for the creation of slideshows which can include photos and videos. But, any photo editing done, then Photoshop Elements and any video editing done, the Premiere Elements. Many program tasks can be integrated if the same version is used for Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements.
And, when and if you need help with either of these programs, best not to refer to it as Elements or PE or PSE, but rather by its full name to avoid confusion. Many a Photoshop Elements thread questions have been answered with a Premiere Elements answer and vice versa because of the loose naming of the products.

Unable to edit an Audio Region (just want to change gain)

Hello,
In a particular audio region I am unable to change gain in that the "Change Gain" command (as well as all the other functions) are Grayed-out FOR THIS REGION. I am in Sample Editor>Functions>Change Gain.
There are over 200 audio regions in this file. Most of them have NONE of the edit functions grayed-out.
A few other regions have all the edit functions Grayed-out except for Change gain.
Almost all of the audio regions are from apple loops. I have not edited any of the regions except for some regions ending points, and volume automation added.
Why would this one particular audio region ("Country Night") by un-editable?
(NONE of the tracks are locked.)

Is it a file in .caf format? If so, note that compressed Audio formats can't be edited destructively. Convert to aiff/wav before.
Btw, there is a Gain function in the Region Inspector since Logic 9, so there is no need to change the gain in the sample editor anymore.

I don't think it's possible to edit a slideshow and the accompanying thumbnails and caption/labels through in browser editing. Does anyone else want that?

Does anyone aside from me see this as a valuable new feature? Not sure it's possible...

You can edit slideshow hero images with thumbnails and captions through In browser editing. Are you facing any issue while editing those ?
Please provide details and screenshot which will help us to identify the issue.

I accidentally "formatted" a text edit document, and didn't want to save it - but that's no longer an option How do I retrieve the previous version?

I created a list of emails on a text edit document that can be easily inserted into an e-blast. I accidentally did something that cause most of them to form a narrow column - up/down rather than right/left, if that makes sense. With the very annoying way documents are automatically saved, I'm now stuck with this. How can this format be un-done?

Well, you need to try to remember what it is you did. If you have not closed the document or saved it manually since you did the formatting, then it should show up under the Undo. If it is not showing there, then it may have been a setting you changed. Did you change your margins? In the ruler on top, where are the left and right margin indicators? Is the right on really far over toward the left?

HDV output to 16:9 ratio QT file

I've finsihed a small project on FCP5 shot & edited in HDV. I want to get it out of Final Cut and create a QT file (download or streaming) that retains the aspect ratio 16:9 and has full motion (much like the film trailers you can watch on the Apple site). Is there an easy way to do this? Everything I try ends up being a stretched standard TV frame ratio or something that looks terrible with jerky movement. There should just be a thing you can select in compressor to give what I'm looking for. Any help? Thanks.

Bob -- try this workflow on a small piece and see if it doesn't work for you...
File - Export - Quicktime Conversion - make sure it's set for Quicktime Movie export.
Change compression method to BROADBAND HIGH. THEN click OPTION and then SIZE... change size to 480x270 and click out to save.
Let it run.
Then, open THAT in iTunes and using iTunes, select the video file and right click (control-click) and choose 'convert for iPod.'
That's always worked for me.
When you are done, do another right click on the video file in iTunes and do a SHOW FILE IN FINDER (or something like that.) Look for the .m4v file... that's the iPod video one. Open it up and see if it isn't 16:9.

Pops, beeps, general slowness/choppiness, random crashes, oh

first off, thanks beforehand for the help.
I just got the audigy 2 zs (not platinum or anything, just the plain one) and after having installed it and the software, I'm getting strange beeping sounds, pops, and real sluggish performance when I play games. Let me clarify; by games, I mean really low tech 2D sort-of games - DROD if anyone knows about that, and stuff from Popcap.com mainly. Also, I've had the system lock up completely (which is something that I have never experienced ever with XP until I got this card in) at really random times. Once, I wasn't doing anything and it just froze; the next time was right when I started a game, and the third that I remember was after my mom played a game for about an hour. An aside: Winamp works fine; I've played mp3s and cd's with no problems. Videos work OK for the most part, but I do get occasional slowdown and beeps/pops etc. (so it seems like something is really wrong with any kind of video+sound combo.)
i probably won't know what all specs you'll need for a diagnosis, so I'll just give some of the basics. Windows XP Pro SP2. Pent III 933 Mhz. 384 megs ram (not any of the fancy DDR or anything.) I've got a PCI Radeon 7500 which I'm sure is doing something. I have onboard sound and video, but my BIOS only lets me disable the video; I've only disabled sound through the device manager. I would like to use some 2. speakers and headphones with this card once I get it to work right. Oh and I meet all the said system requirements for the card. I'm sure I forgot something, so if needed I can supply a dxdiag or whatever.
what i've already tried:
. moved the card physically as far away from everything else in the box. it's now in a corner all by its lonesome. the pci graphics card is 3 pci slots away, which I suppose isn't ideal, but I only have 4 slots, so it's all I can do. I also cleaned up the wires as much as I could (I didn't mess anything up by doing that because there were pops and cracks before I cleaned the wires up.)
2. I cleansweeped and reinstalled just as the instructions in the faq said.
3. I lowered hardware acceleration of graphics one notch and nothing happened. I can try more, but it didn't seem to have an effect.
4. under the "Essential Troubleshooting ... Static, noise, humming, etc." article in the knowledgebase, I wasn't able to do many of the suggestions for various reasons (don't use onboard graphics, don't have agp, bios doesn't let me fiddle with a lot of that stuff, or I wasn't sure how to do what they recommended.)
5. tried getting latest drivers off of this site, but no difference.
6. I've used two sets of speakers (one set of speakers and one pair of headphones) so it's not that.
7. checked that dma access was on.
What I didn't get to do:
. turning off acpi
2. reinstalling windows
3. updating bios (I've tried but cannot find any info on what mobo I have)
4. and like I mentioned, I couldn't disable my onboard sound other than by disabling it in device manager. My bios might not let me turn it off unfortunately.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to answer as many questions as I could before they were asked.

well I don't mind too much if they take a few days to answer, but I do know that there ought to be an answer and a fix. i never saw any mention on the system requirements or any of the other research i did before buying this that said "will not work with a pci graphics card." basically, I don't want to have shelled out 80 bucks for a card that can't even match the quality of my onboard sound.
also, a quick update: after having turned hardware acceleration all the way down, I noticed that this only fixed the problem with a few programs. strangely, music started popping and beeping where beforehand it had not. also movies were acting strangely as well. so basically that "fix" didn't fix the problem so well after all. this weekend I'm going to try a thorough defrag, but first I'll need to free up some space. it still seems strange to think that my sound card would only work if my hard dri've wasn't fragmented, but I'll give it a shot.
edit: oh yeah, and I want to email tech support too and tell them to look at this thread, but I don't know where my model number is printed, and the "help file" on this site that says where to find it has the audigy 2 zs conveniently left out. also, it says "no technical problems please" on the tech support page. what does that mean?
