Should a Mini Ipod retain its battery charge even if it's switched off?

I charge my mini ipod until it's fully charged. Unless I use it right away, it loses its charge. For example, if I charged it, and then didn't use it for a day, when I switched it on, it would have lost some battery already - even if I've made sure it was switched off and the Hold button was switched on.
I've spoken to friends who have ipods and they never have this problem - one friend hasn't used her nano for over two weeks but it still has the same amount of battery left as when she first used it. I would never be able to do this. Essentially it means for me that whenever I'm not using my ipod I would have to make sure that it's charging otherwise when I did use it it might have lost some or all of its battery charge.
I'll admit I'm not amazingly technically savvy with my ipod but I was surprised that the battery didn't last. After all, if I charge my mobile phone and then switch it off it keeps the charge.
Is there something wrong with my mini ipod? Or something wrong with me!!!!
Thanks everyone

All iPods lose some amount of charge from the battery even if switched off. Depends on how much charge to say whether, in your case, it's normal or not.
I wouldn't compare your mini battery with your friend's nano battery. There have been lots of improvements to iPod batteries since you got your mini.
Why not have a read through this, and see if your battery is performing as it should. Don't take too much notice of the battery meter. It's well known for being inaccurate.

Yes.  The battery appears to be shot and in need of a replacement.  This can either be done by Apple or a third party repair company.

You can Google "iPod battery replacement" for third party service centers.

What is you question? In one place you ay "How many monte should a new iPod 5g kepps it charge" and in another "How many minutes should a new

What is the iPod doing during the time period?
    Apple say:
Music playback time: Up to 40 hours when fully charged
Video playback time: Up to 8 hours when fully charged
    However, uses report less time.

  • Can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button

can I lock my 6th generation ipod nano whilst listening to it as it keeps switching off if i knock the sleep button?

Okay, I apologize, belay my last posting :/
This evening after a whole day of working fine (again), I had the same problem, but this time my idea couldn't fix it.  One point I'd like to make is to NOT listen to your ears when troubshooting your ipod.  When your ipod is turning off, try tuning into the radio.  Mine tells me that it isn't recognizing my earbuds and won't even turn on the radio.  I'm going to try to clean the connection out, but really?  This is freakin' new, Apple people!  Maybe its a way for the company to make you purchase new accessories for the ipod they replaced with the recall :/

My iphone 4 won't switch on unless I plug into charge - once I unplug it switches off again and is only charging upto 78% and not letting my option for WiFi either - any ideas?

Make an appointment at the genius bar. More than likely, either the battery needs to be replaced ($70) or the phone does ($199).

    Hi robfromkinglake west,
Try and isolate the issue.  Check if it's only with this drive.
Check the drive with Disk Utility
Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

I've never seen a drive take 20 minutes to mount.

  • IPod mini serial number and battery charging

This is a weird question that I hope someone can help me with. I purchased a refurbished mini (silver) on eBay for my daughter, because I love my mini, but I couldn't by a new one. I'm having battery charging issues (it won't hold a charge even after being on the charger (USB to Mac iBook) overnight. I wanted to see if there was still warranty available on it, but when I typed the serial number on the back of the iPod into the "check warranty" box on the Apple support home page it said it wasn't a correct serial number.
The back of the iPod (from top to bottom) has the apple logo, an HP logo (I wonder if it was originally packaged with an HP computer?), a weird holographic sticker of some kind, the size (4 MB), then the serial number. The serial number does look significantly different than the one on my blue mini.
Could it be that apple handed the warranty support on this iPod to HP?
iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   iPod mini (blue)

    Kyle,
Thanks for your help. I will check the Hp website for warranty information for her iPod.
I keep my iBook set to never go to sleep when it's on the power adapter (I regularly charge my iPod overnight on it, and always use the power adapter when charging).
I reset her iPod and it seems to have solved the charging problem. It may have been an indicator problem — I saw some posts about that. I am having my daughter listen to her iPod all day today and see how long the battery lasts.
    Your post was very helpful!

  • My iPod says its battery is charging but it really isn't

    I have a dilemma.
I know my USB is 2.0, I'm using a Fifth Generation iPod (iPod Video), and it's plugged into a working USB port.
But my iPod will no longer charge when I have it connected to my computer.
Don't suggest a wall charger, I got one but I'd much rather use my computer to charge my iPod because my desk is organized that way.
It used to charge but since 7.0.2 came out, it no longer does it. Anyone know of a fix for this or a place where I can download an older version of iTunes?

    filehippo.com has older software versions.

  • IPod Won't Hold Charge - Even With New Battery

I apologize in advance if this question has already been asked, but after a search, I could only find questions about similar problems, but not my exact issue.
I have a 5G 30Gb iPod that I purchased in November of 2005. The battery never has given me any problems, and I would charge it on average 2 or 3 times per week. Then, about one month ago, it suddenly stopped holding a charge. I remember leaving it charging via USB cable one night, then I uploaded my daily Podcasts the next morning, and after unplugging it, it would die within 30 minutes of use. I would have to plug it into the wall to build up enough charge to reboot as it wouldn't ever get enough charge from USB to reboot (it would always say "Very Low Battery" no matter how long it was connected to the USB).
Fine, since I've had it for nearly two years, I figured the battery probably needed replacing, so I purchased a replacement battery and replaced it myself thinking that would solve the problem. The thing is, the new battery behaves exactly the same way. I can leave it charging all night and the iPod will say "Charged" when I unplug it, and then it will be dead within just a few minutes of use. I'm wondering if it is some sort of firmware issue preventing the battery from charging properly. I have noticed for the short period that it will run off the battery, there is a "plug" icon showing up in the battery indicator so I'm wondering if for some reason the iPod always thinks it's plugged in whether it is or not.
I have also Restored the iPod to its factory settings to see if that would help, but it still behaves the same way. If I've eliminated the battery as the cause, what else could it be? I'm kind of frustrated because the problem seemed to happen all of the sudden. Anyone else experience an issue like this?

From your description I would say a part failed in the charge circuit. This would cause behavior in a new battery as you describe. You should consider having a technician look at. There are some good places on the net that will give you a quote before repairs.

  • Ipod 3rd Gen battery charge issue

I have various 3rd gen ipod's and logic boards. parts n pieces etc. here is my issue.... i recently purchased a new battery for 1 of these 3rd gen ipods to repair. when i first plugged everything in and connected usb cable ipod fired up no problems but the battery was not showing any charge. i even tested battery as it was charging with a multi meter. the voltage was slowly discharging. Now... i disconnected the battery and plugged it into a 2nd gen ipod mini and did the same thing. The battery showed a slow charge as tested with the meter. once the battery charged to full 3.7v i then put it back into the 3rd gen and powered it on only to the same effect with no battery charge indication and also a slow drain with the meter test. i've tried this on 3 or 4 different 3rd gen logic boards that i have and with the same results. I'm confused *** is goin on here. any replies please. thanks.

Just how its logic board is programmed I guess.
They make splitter cables which is a firewire and usb cable in 1, so if you have a wall charger you can charge and sync via USB at the same time.

  • LG Cosmos 2 phones lose all of its battery juice even after charging?

    Hello.
Very rarely, this happened a few times already and quite annoying since I have seen a couple LG Cosmos 2 phones show this same problem/symptoms. My m(o(m/ther)/a) and I have the same exact phones from a local Verizon Wireless retail store as a family package about two years ago. In my past experience, I have seen my phone lose all of its battery juice the next day even after a full charge at night even though I did not use the phone. Basically, the phone doesn't turn on because of no battery power. Connecting to its power charger will make it work again, but charging fully takes a few hours to be portable again. This happened twice so far for me.
Yesterday, the same thing happened with my m(a/o(m/ther))'s phone. She said she charged her the night before it ran out of battery power (dead as well) in the day time. She was able to turn it back on when she plugged a power charger (her SUV and at home). It also took hours to fully recharge and no problems.
We both use our own chargers and phones. We did not change any hardwares like batteries, chargers, etc. They are the same ones that we got when bought our phone as a family package from a local Verizon Wireless store. We don't know when the next incident will happen again, but this is annoying and concerning since there seems to be no exact patterns to see when this happen again. Why is this happening? Is this a known issue?
    Thank you in advance.

For me, it is mainly an emergency phone since I rarely talk on the phones (maybe a few times a month for a few minutes). My phone only turns on when it is being charged. My mom uses it almost daily though. As you can see, very different phone usages but same rare symptoms.
When you say idle, do you mean the one that turns off automatically? I never manually turn mine off. Is being far away or no signal the one show in the signal bars when the phone is on? If so, then I don't re(call/member) seeing it being very low or unavailable but then how often do I use my phone?
