Should Arch have a common input method ?

Should Arch have a common input method ?
Arch is a really great distro,so I think there are a lots of arch users all over the world.
And I believe that more and more people will know Arch, use Arch,Love to use Arch
But I am curious about that : everyone use english only? Just input English only?
For me I need a input method to input Chinese in gedit,gnome-terminal,openoffice and so on.
I guess some users( in particular for non-English users) also need it for their own language.
So I eager hope Arch will  official have common method support.
And SCIM is a good choice--Smart Common Input Method.
Old Homepage    http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/scim
New homepage  http://www.scim-im.org/
And http://sourceforge.net/projects/scim/
SCIM is the defaults Chinene input moethod in SUSE Mandriva(formerly mandrake),and included in Fedoa's Repo.
Tt also is the defauls input moethod for CJK(Chinese/Korea/Japanese) users,SCIM  supports a large
number of input methods in a bunch of languages, and trying to enumerate all the input method
engines and their corresponding languages.
scim- scim is the core package, which provides the fundamental routines and data types
skim - An input method based on SCIM library and KDE/QT.
      scim-{anthy,canna,prime,skk,wnn} -  IMEngines for Japanese
scim-chewing - IMEngine for  Tranditional Chinese
scim-pinyin- Currently contains a Smart Pinyin IMEngine for Simplified Chinese.
scim-fcitx - fcitx ported to scim for Chinese
scim-tables - Contains many table based input methods.
scim-uim - A wrapper to use uim as an IMEngine of SCIM.
scim-m17n - A wrapper to use m17n library as an IMEngine of SCIM.
      scim-qtimm - Qt-immodule support for scim.
scim-hangul - A Hangul !IMEngine which is ported from imhangul project.
scim-input-pad - scim-input-pad is an OnScreen input pad for SCIM used to input some symbols very easily

cactus wrote:@dibble: in fact, I would. Then i would set out to make the packages myself so I could use them, or try to form a group of like minded individuals to create a language specific port.
i don't want to start a massive fight about this cactus because you know I respect your views but i wonder how a group of people that require internationalization support can collaborate on a project without a common language?
We can already see that miracle is doing his best to get his point across with varying sucess, i can't imagine trying to achieve many harder things in the internet environment, never mind establishing a project.  Of course this is well within the users power but i really think that in this instance non-enlgish speaking users would greatly benefit from the support of experience Arch Users who have english as first langauge.
miracle - if the PKGs are in the AUR you need to contact other arch users, possibly on the other languages forums, and tell them to vote for the scim pkgs

  • Newbie: Method should or should not have side effects

    Hi experts,
What does it really mean when I read for the InputVerifier class that the method 'shouldYieldFocus' can have side effects but the method 'verify' should not have side effects.
    Thanks for you comments.
    tuckie

I am but a newbie only asked to learn and maintain. The reason I ask about side effects is that the shouldYieldFocus() method is invoked twice for the same tab key event. When the tab key (or mouse click) wants to move focus to another input the current input's shouldYieldFocus() is invoked, it in turn invokes verify() which validates data returning true or false and checks to see if a warning should be issued that the data is legal but high. If the data is not high it also returns true and the focus is yielded. Also shouldYieldFocus() is only invoked once. It is when the data is high and the showConfirmDialog() is put up that I get the second shouldYieldFocus() invocation. The previous coder put in a de-bouncing mechanism and I think this is where/how the problems with the next field are created. Sometimes the next field's focusLost() is invoked without the operator making any input. The focusLost() does some fill in the blank things that are reasonable only if the operator really wanted not to fill in any data in the field.
Back to my original point, I was wondering if the fact that the verify() method may have a dialog box put up before it returns to shouldYieldFocus() is the kind of thing that shouldn't be done - no side effects. If so then it could be the likely cause of the problem with the next field sometimes being automatically filled in as if it had received a focusLost() event.

  • Bootcamp, Windows 7: EN option not showing up in input method selector

    Hi,
I added a Japanese and a German input method on my Bootcamp Windows 7 install.
For some reason only JP (Japanese) and DE (German) are shown as options in the input method selector - but no EN, which should be the default...
In the settings the EN entry is shown however:
      EN English (United States)
        +-+ Keyboard
            + United States (Apple)
      JP Japanese
        +-+ Keyboard
            + Microsoft IME
      German (Germany)
        +-+ Keyboard
            + German (Apple)
When starting up, the German keyboard is activated and there is no way to switch back to the English one.
When adding another English keyboard, US for example, an EN option is shown - but it selects the normal US keyboard and not the "United States (Apple)" one...
Any idea how to solve the problem?
    Thanks, Dietrich

  • How to STOP OS X from automatically changing between language input methods

I want to know if there is a way in OS X Leopard to stop the system from automatically changing the language input method. I use English and Japanese on my computer, but this would apply to anyone using more than one input method.
For example, when I click on a Japanese-language file, the system automatically changes input to Kotoeri (the Japanese-language input method). When I then click on an English-language file it usually, but not always, changes back to English input. But I almost never want to TYPE in Japanese. I just need to be able to read Japanese and to cut and paste from Japanese language files. It is very annoying when I start typing in an English-language file and find the input method has been changed to kotoeri without me realizing it—everything comes out in meaningless Japanese. When I want to type in Japanese, I want to manually change to the Japanese input system. That is, I want English to always be the default input method even if I am manipulating Japanese-language files.
So, I’m wondering if there’s a way to set the computer so that it never AUTOMATICALLY switches between the input methods. I want to be able to switch only manually. In the old days of System 7, 8, and 9, there was a third-party control panel you could get that would do this (I think it was called Stay There!) and I don't remember this being a problem in Tiger or earlier versions of OS X. Is anyone aware of any way to do this in Leopard?
    Thank you!
    Colin

Well, I do have it set that way, and I can look up there to see where I am, but in the work I do time is critical and I move back and forth between the two languages frequently. It is really a pain and a waste of time to have to look and make a change that should be unnecessary. The problem is not so much that I don't know where I am. It's that I don't want to ever have to think I MIGHT be in anything but English input unless I specifically want to be. In other words, I need to be able to forget about this problem even being a possibility.

  • How can I keep my original keyboard mapping in different input methods?

    Hi!
i have a question about my keyboard mapping. my powerbook has a german keyboard. and i switch frequently my input methods between german and simplified chinese(ITABC), which was all fine. but after upgrading to Leopard, when i switch to ITABC input method, my keyboard mapping changed along with this input method to chinese keyboard mapping! which annoys me a lot! this did not happen before when i was in Tiger!
could someone please tell me how to keep my original keyboard mapping (at least the alphabets) when i switch to ITABC?
    Thanks a lot!

in german input, the key "Y" and "Z" are opposite comparing with normal english keyboard. and in chinese input method, the "y" and "z" are mapped just as normal english keyboard.
what happens now is, in ITABC input method, "y" and "z" are mapped as normal english keyboard, which is not like that before when i was using tiger.
Thanks for the info! You should definitely ask about this on the Chinese-Mac list. Keyboard mapping with the Apple Chinese IM's has long been a problem, and is one reason many people are moving to QIM:
    http://www.yale.edu/chinesemac/pages/input_methods.html#other
I suspect something has changed in the Chinese IM with Leopard to mess this up for you, and it may not be fixable.

  • Follow Up Post - Input Methods Win2K

Just a quick note - I discovered that Windows 2000 (English version) does support input methods in Chinese AND it works with Swing. :)
There was some talk of using third-party software like njstar, but I guess it seems to be only needed in NON-Windows 2000 environments.
To activate Chinese Input methods on a pure English Windows 2000 -
Go to Regional Settings - Input Locales
    Add: Input Language: Chinese (PRC)
    with Keyboard/layout: Simplified@Chinese - ZhengMa
Now, your ready to type Chinese in Swing Windows too ...
    I have'nt discovered 2 things yet -
---- Why should the keyboard/layout be set to:
Chinese (PRC) - Simplified Chinese Zhengma?
    Why does'nt
Chinese (PRC) - Chinese (Simplified) US Keyboard work??
Because the fact is I am using a US keyboard.
----- What the encoding of the text generated by Windows 2000 is and how do I read it?
When I go to IME Setting for: Chinese (PRC) - Simplified Chinese Zhengma it pops a Chinese window with GB2312 and GBK ... are these encoding methods? I thought Win2000 used only Unicode?
Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks Martin for some of your previous posts - they were helpful.
    TIA,
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
Correct, NJStar is extremely useful if you aren't in Windows 2000.
I'm pretty sure Win2K's support of Unicode is bog standard at best. It certainly isn't up to Java's standard where everything being stored internally is in Unicode. As far as I'm aware that statement of MS's only covers flat files and databases at this point in time, and will take another two OS releases before it occurs across the board as it does in Java. But don't quote me on that! :)
GB2312 is a Chinese encoding. Java will be able to read in this form of encoding, and then convert it to Unicode once it's being stored internally. Hope that doesn't sound too confusing! The important point here is that GB and Unicode are two entirely separate encodings. You may need to convert between the two in places, especially if you're dealing with HTML and/or JSP.
As for the keyboard, no idea. I can only assume that:
    1) The US version is laid out differently
    2) There's a bug in the JDK for this keyboard layout
    3) It refers to a keyboard that lets Chinese people type in English characters (though I'd doubt it!)
    Hope that helps!

  • Why do I get "Select Input Method" dialog when trying to open tabs on some sites?

This is what I'm experiencing with Firefox mobile on an Android tablet.
On some sites, when I click a button which should open a new tab, I get the "Select Input Method" dialog box. First, I don't know why this dialog is popping up. Second, it is an empty dialog; there is nothing to select, only a heading that says "Select Input Method". When I touch the heading, I get another "Select Input Method" dialog, this time with "Android Keyboard" as the sole item to be selected. It is already selected. Touching it or backing up to dismiss it leaves me on the page I started on. Touching the original button which should open a new tab simply repeats the entire dialog sequence. Backing up from the original, empty dialog, does the same thing.
Once or twice, by magic or something, I was able to get the page to open the new tab. But I cannot confirm what sequence of selecting or backing up out of the dialogs may have led to the correct behavior.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    kbrosnan,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
My wife is working on a project so I'm a little light on details. Apparently she figured out that her Javascript is calling ShowModalDialog and this was what was causing the Select Input Method dialog to open. I don't fully understand the details but she's looking for a different way to do this. I believe she said she subsequently found out that the Firefiox mobile browser doesn't support ShowModalDialog.
She's new to mobile web development (and I know nothing about it) so she's kind of feeling her way. If you have a good resource for how the FF Android mobile browser differs from the normal desktop browser, that wouldbe a big help, I think. Otherwise, thanks for you reply and she'll keep plugging away discovering what she needs to change in her program to make it work for mobile.
    Thanks.

  • Criteria to use batch input method in lsmw

in lsmw we hav batch input method, direct input, idocs, bapis, what is the criteria to use them?

    •     Decide whether it makes sense to use this tool with respect to the data volume to be transferred. It may be easier to transfer very small data volumes into the SAP system manually. In the case of a very large data volume, batch input or IDoc techniques may cause extremely long runtimes. A rough landmark for estimating the required time: 10 000 records per hour where this value may vary considerably depending on the hardware available.
    •     Identify the transaction(s) in the SAP system via which you want to import the data into your SAP system. It may be relevant whether you need the data for statistical analysis or for further processing in the system.
    •     Run the relevant transaction in the SAP system manually with test data from the legacy system and see which fields must be filled. There may be required fields that do not correspond to data fields in the legacy system. In such a case, you should better assign a fixed value or establish an optional field for data transfer.

  • Input Method selection broken in Emacs?

I just installed Emacs through "pacman -S emacs", but I can't get the selection of input method to work.
When I hit "C-x RET C-\" or choose "Options/Mule/Select input method" in the emacs menu I get
"Select input method (default rfc1345)" as usual, but when I hit tab to get all the alternatives, usually about 100 alternatives, I get "no match".  I also get "no match" if I write "japanese" which should be an alternative, and even if i hit RET to get the default value.
Any idea what could be wrong?

I found an old newsgroup discussion about a similar issue, and it seems I will need leim, as in the package emacs-leim which is in unsupported. I guess all emacs packages I have used in other distributions had this already.

  • LSMW direct input method - Equipment BOM

    Hi Experts,
We have already written program for equipment BOM master in LSMW direct input method. I do not know about this direct input method.
Here they have maintained 2 source structures and relavant source fields. one for BOM header and other for BOM items. The first field they maintained is LINK in both the source fields. I really do not know what that field is all about. I checked in step specify files and found that they have previously mentioned two files, one for BOM header and other for BOM items. but when I tried to save in this step it gives me error that " No logical path specified". Can anybody tell me what is this error is all about. Please heip me to get out of this problem.
    Thanks and best regards,
    Praveen

    Hi praveen,
LSMW does not accept two files.
In the step create source strcture
crte one structure with BOM header like with ZBOM_H.
Under that create another structure for item ZBOM_I.
    ZBOM_H
ZBOM_I like this structure will will be.
    In the step source fields.
crate onne variable with indicatoe header. While creating the variable we have field 'identify field content ' field in pop up screen 'H'.
assign all header files under identifier 'H'.
then under ZBOM_I create identifier with 'I'.
Assign all the item fields to this.
    then map the fields.
In the file should be H header fields.
                                  I item fields.
                                  I
                                  I.
Then Header .It should be like this.
in saptechnical u will get the examples go though them once.
