Should e-book Data Guard Concepts and Administration be useless for us?
I think The Data Guard Broker is an easy and efficient way to manage a Data Guard configuration. The Data Guard Broker provides us with two efficient tools: EM Console and DGMGRL. We can do everything we want for Data Guard system.
Why we spend so much time to read Oracle e-book Data Guard Concepts and Administration? I think it is useless. Only Broker is enough?
Frank,
The thing is GUI tool itself is also program that need some one to manage. The developer of such tools cannot take care unlimited possibilities in the real world.
Just check how many threads in this forum about why emca, dbca and EM console not working.
Being a DBA, we should understand the underlying technology that driven the system. It's like driving a car. A regular customer could say I don't care about mechanics of a car. As long as it's running, that's enough. But we are not regular customer, we suppose to be the auto repair mechanician in Oracle world. We could enjoy driving a car, but at same time we should know why and how it's working.

Should I just keep Logic Pro and forget Pro X for now? ...
Should I just keep Logic Pro and forget Pro X for now?
Have Mavericks.
Have not been recording/using Logic since getting Mavericks, but getting ready for new projects.
How is old Logic Pro (not X) working with Mavericks? And X?
Are the upgrades in X worth the hassels I'm reading about on this forum?
LenaAs long as you have Logic 9.1.8 it will run fine under Mavericks. If there is no impending need to go to Logic X then don't bother. Updating for the sake of it when everything is working ok is not something I do. I only went to logic 9 from 8 about 7 months ago. Had the box install of 9 for a couple of years before moving to it because I had no need.
If you do decide to go to Logic X make sure you have 64bit versions of any 3rd party plug-ins.
There are some good features in Logic X but do you need them and do you need to move? -
Hi,
I've been reading about data guard in oracle 9i, and there some concepts not still clear at all to me, could anyone explain what is it really the data guard broker? is it a process, a daemon, a tool? What is the DMON process, is it the same as the DRMON?

Data guard: OMF and directory structure
hi everybody,
i guess this problem is not too complicated, but maybe i´m missing something.
assumption:
- 10.2.0.4
- data guard with physical standby (primary: node_a, standby: node_b)
- primary db_unique_name=primary, standby db_unique_name=standby
- using OMF, primary db_create_file_dest=<myDir>/oradata
- standby_file_management is set to AUTO
- want to use same directory structure for data files on both nodes (<myDir>/oradata/PRIMARY/)
data guard is working as expected so far, data files on both nodes are created in <myDir>/oradata/PRIMARY/datafile/
next assumption:
- failover is initiated
- physical standby is recreated on former primary node (node_a)
from now on, data files are created in <myDir>/oradata/STANDBY/datafile/, old data files remain in <myDir>/oradata/PRIMARY/datafile/.
is there a way to avoid a second directory (and still use the benefits of OMF)? at least at the current standby node it´s possible to avoid this by setting db_file_name_convert, but what about the new primary?
thanks for your input,
peter
Edited by: priffert on Sep 14, 2009 3:07 AMI have a similar setup with the exception that I'm using ASM for datafiles. The issue I'm having with OMF is that if I create a datafile within a disk group that is not in the location specified by db_create_file_dest then on the standby it's created in the db_create_file_dest. Apparently this will not give me the ability to maintain the exact configuration on both primary and standby without requiring modification after role changes.

Data Guard Broker and Cold Failover clusters
Hi,
I wanted to use Data Guard Broker to control primary/standby systems on AIX clusters but found that without Oracle clusterware it is not supported on failover of a database to another node (unless you drop and recreate the configuration which in my opinion is not support at all!).
The 11g documentation states that DG Broker offers support for single instance databases configured for HA using Oracle Clusterware and "cold failover clusters".
Does anyone know whether this support for cold failover clusters in 11g means "proper support" i.e the configuration detects that the hostname has changed and automatically renames it so it continues to work?, or is the support in 11g the same as that in 10g?.
Thanks,
AndyHi Jan,
We already use virtual hostnames.
When I set up the configuration the hostname for the databases default to the server name. The only way I know of changing this is to disable the configuration, then use the "edit database...set property" command but when I enable the configuration again it reverts back to its previous value.
regards,
Andy -
Data Guard Transport and Real Time Apply Configuration
Hello,
I'm configuring a Data Guard configuration using Oracle 12.1.0.2 and I have observed that in a máximum perfomance configuration, that is the default.
The system upgrade to a SYNC configuration.
DGMGRL> show configuration
Configuration - DRSolution
Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Members:
orcl - Primary database
STBY - Physical standby database
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Configuration Status:
SUCCESS (status updated 53 seconds ago)
SQL> show parameters log_archive_Dest_2
NAME TYPE VALUE
log_archive_dest_2 string service="stby", ASYNC NOAFFIRM
delay=0 optional compression=
disable max_failure=0 max_conn
ections=1 reopen=300 db_unique
_name="STBY" net_timeout=30, v
alid_for=(online_logfile,all_r
oles)
However, if I insert 1 row in a test table at primary database and commit, immediately I see the change in the standby database.
If this behavior new in this versión?
How can I revert to the classic max performance configuration, where only send the archive when it is full.
Thanks
Arturo>How can I revert to the classic max performance configuration, where only send the archive when it is full.
That is ARCH shipping. The default in 11.2 and above LGWR shipping. So LGWR ships the redo immediately. The only thing with ASYNC is that it doesn't wait for the Standby to acknowledge before it returns a COMMIT to the user. In a low-load environment, if the standby can apply the redo fast enough, ASYNC is virtually the same as SYNC. That is MaximumPerformance becomes the same as MaximumAvailability. Only when the redo load is higher than the available bandwidth or the speed at which the Standby can apply it , will you see a lag in the Standby. (To force an explicit lag, there is a separate DELAY parameter).
ARCH shipping is deprecated. -
Schedule line delivery date on saturday and sunday its confirm for monday

and sales org and plant i assign calendor
Please guide me where i miss and how can i solve this issue
thanks in advanceHi,
Check "OVLY" and "OVLZ" and If the sceduling is active for he shipping point /sales document type. Check "OVXD" and see If the Loading time/ Pick/pack time is determined from it. If they are getting determined from shipping point check the shipping point calender in "SCAL" .If it has saturday and sunday as holidays ,then you may have to change them. And check If the customer has goods recieving hours assigned to him (In customer master unloading point). If he has only 5 working days and If he accepts only goods at 8 am in the morining then system would propose like this.Kindly please let me know If you need any more Information on this.

Oracle Data Guard: Physical and Logical
I have a Primary database and have created a Physical Standby on another node. The physical standby is kept in synch via REDO Aply - online redo logs.
QUESTION: is it possible to create a Logical Standby off of the Physical Standby? I dont think so since the logical is kept in synch from a primary via SQL- Aply. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM.
I thought that a logical standby MUST be created from a Primary and not a Physical.
Thanks!!Documentation is your friend,Orace does not not hide the information, how to create a logical standby:

Hi.
os is RHEL 4U2
db: primary and standby 10.2.0.1
I want to set a broker to manage a dataguard config.
The documentation is always talking about Entreprie manager grid control.
Is it possible to use entreprise manager (not grid control) on the primary to set this broker and how?
I am asking this because grid control will need more resources.

How should I partition data across 2 hard drives to make for less latencey?
Hello all!
I am using a Dual 2.7 G5 Power Mac and I just bought the Hitachi 500GB internal hard drive to supplement the stock 250GB drive that came in the tower. I mostly want to orient my computer for the needs of a home recording studio. I am Logic Pro user and I want to streamline data retrieval as efficiently as possible.
Now, I also have a good deal of other junk on my computer (video and iMovie projects). I would love an organization solution on how to partition everything that I have filled my 250GB drive up with across both hard drives. I'm aiming for a solution that will be good for the long-term as I continue to add more and more stuff (audio/music related and non) onto my hard drives.
Here are a few of the primary concerns which have held me back from just diving in:
I have several DVD's worth of audio samples (for use with software sampler) that I have yet to load onto this computer. Should I load/move all of my samples onto the secondary 500GB drive or would the streaming retrieval of all of that content from the secondary drive add extra latency and slowdown when the host application running these tasks and retrievals is ran off of the primary drive (the 250GB drive on which the OS is installed)?
Or should I just move Logic to the secondary 500 GB drive as well as all of the audio samples and run all things having to do with audio production off of that secondary 500GB drive? Would running such a CPU intensive app from the secondary drive make a performance difference compared to running it off of the primary drive? Does it matter whether or not a program is run off of the hard drive where the OS is installed?
Or should I find a way to have all apps running from the primary 250 GB drive WITH all samples (streaming and non-streaming) also on that drive and just have my project files and audio recording sessions (which eat up large portions of space) located on the secondary 500 GB drive? Or would I run into a noticeable latency with having the recorded audio sessions ran off of the secondary hard drive when I am running the application that retrieves them (Logic) off of the primary drive?
Where do I put my pro apps? Where do I put my audio samples (mainly for EXS24, SampleTank, and BFD)? Recording sessions? Everything else?
Please, experienced users, what should I do to garner the best performance out of my Mac?
Thanking everyone in advance,
Matt!
P.S. I am running OS 10.4.6 and using 4.5 GB of memory. Thanks you guys. X, that is interesting to read. Chap, I see what you are saying. But I just found these two FAQ's from BFD's website. How do you feel in reference to them? Is it me, or do these questions somewhat contradict each other? :
Is it a good idea to put BFD on its own partition on my audio drive? [top]
In general, no. If your harddrive is partitioned and you are streaming from both the BFD partition and your own tracks, this will lead to the hard drive read head jumping back and forth between the two partitions, which may reduce performance. Also, if you are streaming non-BFD audio from the same drive, this reduces the bandwidth available for BFD streaming.
On which hard drive should I install my BFD data? [top]
FXpansion recommends, in order of performance preference (first is best):
1) A dedicated SATA or IDE internal drive, 7200rpm or above
2) A dedicated external firewire drive (do NOT chain the firewire drive with a digi002 or other firewire audio interfaces!)
3) A dedicated external USB2.0 drive
4) An internal drive shared with the data from other heavy disk-accessing programs, eg the operating system (virtual memory swap files), or another disk streaming application such as your host sequencer (audio tracks) or Kontact etc etc.
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.7Ghz 2.5gigs of RAM Mac OS X (10.4)
So it sounds like they recommend BFD having its very own hard drive. I dont have the resources for that right now. So I wonder what would be better: Sharing the OS drive with BFD as mentioned by X and used as the last resort from FAQ #2, or split my second drive via partition into Samples (including BFD audio) and Storage for projects and raw, recorded audio sessions.
If only I wasn't such a perfectionist. I would get so much more work done! Thanks again guys. I am indebted. -
I used Firefox for more than 10 years (actual version 27.0.1). Since2-3 days Firefox crashes and slows down. I have already blocked all the additions, without any results. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, the situation remained the same. I can’t really use Firefox support, because I had to wait more than 5 minutes to open the page. I made 2 virus research (MS Security Essential, and MS anti malware) I did not have virus.
I returned to the base state of Firefox, It fonctioned, but after the restart of Windows, it started again slow down.
I tried IE it function well without any problem, but it’s slightly strange for me, but I have to work, so I must use another one if Firefox is dying on my computer.
Unfortunately I have more than hundred important bookmarks in Firefox which are necessary for my daily work, so I can’t simply uninstall Firefox and use IE.
My question: If Firefox is not reparable how can I migrating all my bookmarks to IE?
Thank you in advance for your help and instructionsFirst of all thank you for your response
I saved all my bookmarks to a library (I have created a library) and I used the importation function of IE, but it was partially successful, more than 70 % of the bookmark has disappeared. I suppose it was a mistake of the conversion made by IE. So I uninstalled and reinstalled again Firefox, thereafter I reinstated the bookmarks.
I suppose, that I found a reason for the crashes and the freezing, probably it was a consequence of the adobe flash player 12. It seems Firefox has a conflict with adobe flash player.
So as conclusion I have trapped between Firefox and IE, Firefox does not work well on my computer, IE work, but without my bookmark and without my usual comfort and customization of my Firefox…
Just a note: during this letter writing, Firefox has slowed down 2 times.
Thank you in advance for your help. -
RDBMS Version : 11.2
Platform : Solaris 10
I've joined this new company. On Data guard related design documents I keep seeing FLASHBACK related stuff. Things like extra disk space requirements for setting up FLASHBACK DATABASE. What is this all about ?
What has Flashback got to do with Data guard setups ? I just need a high level overview.
Regarding extra disk space requirements for setting up FLASHBACK DATABASE : Is this at Primary of Standby site ?Hello;
Flashback is not required for Data Guard. However if you ever need to do a failover it may play an important role.
During a failover it is common to use flashback to recover the old primary to a point where it can become the new standby.
Flashback may also be used with DELAY on a Standby, and with Snapshot database.
I would enable it on both the primary and standby databases.
For additional information see :
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration 11g Release 2 (11.2) E10700-02
And these sections
7.2.2.1 Using Flashback Database as an Alternative to Setting a Time Delay
8.4 Using Flashback Database After a Role Transition
8.4.2 Using Flashback Database After a Failover
13.2 Converting a Failed Primary Into a Standby Database Using Flashback Database

How to access Data Guard option in Oracle 10g OEM
Hi All,
I have Oracle 10g ENTERPRISE EDITION on Unix envoirement. I want to setup logical standby Database through Data Guard technology. But when I brows through OEM I do not find Link for DATA GUARD????
1) How to access Data Guard option from oracle 10g OEM.
2) Does It come with Enterprise Edition OR I have to install it separately.
Regards,
DarshanI am managing almost everything through EM Grid Control. It is easy to setup and configure.
Anyways, if you have read the documentation on
Oracle® Data Guard Concepts and Administration and setup your environment accordingly then you should not have any problems. Atleast I can assure you that your production database will not be affected by it.
Just make sure that you follow each step and read thoroughly. If you have spare machines then you can test and record your configuration before performing it on your production db. This link will provide you with the information on DataGuard.
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14239/concepts.htm
If you think that way then you will never be able to do any new stuff since you will always fear that something might go wrong. Go ahead pal, try it on test machines and you will know that it is not that difficult.
There are real experts who help people like us in this forum and I know that they are doing a pretty good job.
All the best.

Problem with logminer in Data Guard configuration
Hi all,
I experience strange problem with applying of the logs in DataGuard configuration on the logical standby database side.
I've set up the configuration step by step as it is described in documentation (Oracle Data Guard Concepts and Administration, chapter 4).
Everything went fine until I issued
ALTER DATABASE START LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY;
I saw that log applying process was started by checking the output of
SELECT NAME, VALUE FROM V$LOGSTDBY_STATS WHERE NAME = 'coordinator state';
and
SELECT TYPE, HIGH_SCN, STATUS FROM V$LOGSTDBY;
but in few minutes it stoped and quering DBA_LOGSTDBY_EVENTS I saw the following records:
ORA-16111: log mining and apply setting up
ORA-01332: internal Logminer Dictionary error
Alert log says the following:
LOGSTDBY event: ORA-01332: internal Logminer Dictionary error
Wed Jan 21 16:57:57 2004
Errors in file /opt/oracle/admin/whouse/bdump/whouse_lsp0_5817.trc:
ORA-01332: internal Logminer Dictionary error
Here is the end of the whouse_lsp0_5817.trc
error 1332 detected in background process
OPIRIP: Uncaught error 447. Error stack:
ORA-00447: fatal error in background process
ORA-01332: internal Logminer Dictionary error
But the most useful info I found in one more trace file (whouse_p001_5821.trc):
krvxmrs: Leaving by exception: 604
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
ORA-06512: at "SYS.LOGMNR_KRVRDREPDICT3", line 68
ORA-06512: at line 1
Seems that somewhere the correct privileges were not given or smth like this. By the way I was doing all the operations under SYS account (as SYSDBA).
Could smb give me a clue where could be my mistake or what was done in the wrong way?
Thank you in advance.Which is your SSIS version?
