Should either one ethernet or coax broadband always be connected in an actiontect 424 rev.g?

I was reviewing the Verizon FIOS post titled "Entering DNS settings in the Actiontec MI424WR router to opt out of DNS Assistance", when I noticed a difference with my actiontect 424w rev g settings. In my case, I do not have any broadband connection with the status "connected", either the coax or the ethernet. My fios setup uses coax from the ONT (Verizon installation) to the router. I have disabled the wireless router section and use an apple airport capsule for the wpa wireless. I also have a couple of actiotects in bridge mode for providing ethernet ports to two tivo boxes and a desktop. Everything works but I wonder if by miracle not by design...Based on my reading, if the coax input is connected to the actiontec, then by definition the connection to the internet is via coax to the ONT, and the settings should indicate a "connected" broadband connection. Am I correct? I have assumed that the other two bridges are neither the network controller for my installation. TY for the help

Hope this is of help to you.

  • How do I add an airport extreme to a cable modem with only one ethernet port, while keeping that port connected to my Mac?

I have a mac pro connected by ethernet to a cable modem via ethernet.    There is only one ethernet port on the modem.
I want to keep the Mac connected via ethernet for speed.    Is there a way that I can add an airport extreme to this set up - for my ipad and roku, and for guests to use - or do I need to buy a router to put between the modem and the mac?
If I need a router, what kind?
    Thanks.

The modem connects to the WAN "O" port on an AirPort Extreme router.
The Mac Pro connects to one of the three LAN <-> ports on the AirPort Extreme router.
Or if you do not need the ability to connect a hard drive to the USB port on the router, you can save a bit by using an AirPort Express.
The modem connects to the WAN "O" port, the Mac Pro connects to the LAN <-> port
Either the AirPort Extreme router or AirPort Express router will allow up to 50 wireless device to connect.
There are many other wireless modems offered by other manufacturers as well.

    Hi Anthony,
Try to connect the table with the "save FM". This FM should only execute, if it contains a text (via formula). After saving it should call the FM for displaying the selected record of the table. For initializing you can call the FM for displaying directly (use a guard condition).
    Best Regards,

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines
    - Meanwhile User 2 opens test.css as well (opens as 2000 lines as User 1’s edits have not yet been saved) and adds in code to bring it to 2300 lines
    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.

  • Question about ethernet over coax?

I was wondering if anyone has any advice.
Here is my setup, I have
    1)  MI424WR   router installed at one location. I have an ethernet switch  connected to the router to carry ethernet all over the house. The  MI424WR is connected to fios with a coax cable.
    2) I have a coax cable  ( connected to the fios)  at a location where I cannot get an ethernet cable and where I have a computer that I would like to connect to the network. . I was wondering if I can connect something to that coax cable that would connect it to the network and allow me to connect the computer at that spot?
    Thanks in advance

below are some ways for you to do what you would like to do. just keep in mind that those are advanced set ups and not supported over the phone or by technician at verizon, so you can do them at your own risk type of thing, and the only support you'll really have is from online users. .  If your a DIY (Do it yourself) kinda guy, then these should work,

Speficially look at Can I get an ethernet connection in a room with only coax?

That should make the G4 look like a big FW drive to the iMac.

  • Sharing one ethernet cable with two macs using a USB Ethernet Adaptor

I have two computers running Mac OS 10.6 but only one ethernet cable in my office. One ethernet cable goes from the wall to Mac #1. I have a cisco USB Ethernet Adaptor USB300M that I like to use as OUTGOING ethernet cable from Mac #1 to plug into Mac #2. Does anybody know how this works? Simply plugging it in does not work. Thanks for any suggestions!

If either of these computers is a Mac Pro (65 lb.) tower, all of which have two Ethernet jacks, Internet sharing is crisply supported with any additional Hardware. Cable the wall jack Ethernet to the first Ethernet port, then cable the second Ethernet port to the second Mac. Configuration is described in this article:

  • How do I manage Lightroom photos when using 2 computers, keeping all edits made on either one?

Based on http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1308132?tstart=0 I decided to add each question seperately:
Hello, I'm quite interested in buying Lightroom 5.2. I tried the RC which ran out now. Yet, I have a several questions that I can't really find good conclusive answers to, that I'd like to get answered before buying LR. Please don't write maybe like this or that (assumptions), since I don't want to start my whole workflow and then realize that I have to change everything around, so please answer, if you know for sure that something works and you are, preferably, using that method too.
This is the biggest question, where I mainly want a conclusive answer:  How do I manage Lightroom photos when using 2 computers, keeping all edits made on either one of them, using the same photos for editing. I won't use DNG. Details: I mainly use my older MacBook Pro, but would like to be able to use my PC as it's way better (Specs: i5 2500K, 16GB RAM, SSD, USB3, nVidia GTX 560 TI etc.). I have 2 external HDs that I could use, one for Backup and one for the actual Photos/Edits. I'll probably need to use it as my internal HDs are quite full, and I can't just delete stuff or move it to an (Developer programs, Lossless music, etc.).
Based on this, how do I back up the whole thing e.g. Photos folder (all photos and edits, and preferably presets too)?

I believe it should be possible to work cross-platform without having to relink files each time, or without having to keep exporting/importing the catalog, by keeping the single catalog and the image library on the one external drive which is then switched between systems as needed.
Obvious first requirement is an external drive that is formatted in such a way (e.g FAT32) that it can be used on both platforms in read/write mode. Given that, if the catalog AND the images parent folder are both established at the same level in one overall parent folder, then it should be possible to take advatage of Lightroom's ability to use relative paths rather than absolute paths to detect the images, no matter if the drive is named (Mac) or lettered (PC). This is how "export as Catalog" works, i.e. it creates a "package", aka a parent folder, containing the catalog and a replica of the exported images folder hierarchy alongside the catalog. Take that "package" to another system (same OS or not) and "it just works" even if the drive letter is different or the OS is different....because the relative path from catalog to images is still the same.
I haven't tested this cross-platform (though I have between different PC systems with different drive letters) so for me it's still just a theory, but there may be others who have done this successfully.

  • Show the company I work for that we should have one cluster

The company I work for have several projects where we are going to use RAC. The issue I'm having is they want each database to be in its own cluster hardware. I'm trying to show then that we should cluster all the hardware together and make small RAC database in the one cluster.
Does any know of anyone that has written a go doc how why you should have one cluster versus multiple clusters.
Example of what they are thinking of doing note this is all separate hardware cluster1 will not be cluster with cluster2 I'm try to show them if we cluster it all together we get more power and may not need so much hardware:
    Project 1
    cluster1_dev
    2 nodes
    cluster2_qa
    4 nodes
    cluster3_prd
    4 nodes
    Project 2
    cluster2_dev
    2 nodes
    cluster2_qa
    4 nodes
    cluster2_prd
    4 nodes
What I’m proposing is the following setup:
    Cluster_dev
    3 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 3 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 3 nodes
    Cluster_qa
    6 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
    Cluster_prd
    6 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 6 nodes

I am always impressed by choosing rac without having expressed what types of failures to be covered.
maybe you really don't need rac ...
moreover, rac is imho really not 2 nodes oriented but well grid oriented.
a lot of small server in the same cluster is for me the way to go or the the way to think.
Services features were introduced to allow one rac db to be shared by multiple applications.

  • Using more than one Ethernet port

So I just brought myself another pair of TP link wifi adapters as I already had some, but the ones I had only had 1 port and these have 3. So I set it all up and try to use 2 ethernet ports as I want to use my xbox one and Laptop through these adapters. So when i set it up and pluged the ethernet cables into the router the broadband light on the hub goes orange and the broadband is lost unitl i take out one of the ethernet cables and reset the hub it works fine with just one.
I just really want to know why i cant have more than one ethernet cable plugged into the hub.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You can only connect one broadband extender to the home hub. This must be designated as the Access Point. All the rest need to be slaved to that Access Point. These need to be individually "paired" to the AP one connected to the home hub.
You can still use the other ports on the home hub for direct Ethernet connections.
If you try and connect more than one extender to a home hub Ethernet port, you will create a loopback, which will crash the home hub.

  • Ethernet over coax question

I have a coax cable running from the front house to the back house and want to connect my router to the iMac back there that serves up music and movies etc to the rest of the house. It's currently connected via wifi, but there are dropouts etc.
I've been pointed to a few different devices that can run ethernet over coax, such as this one:
    http://www.netsys-direct.com/proddet...NH-310C&cat=27
there are a variety of them, and they all seem to say they have speeds in the 100mps to at the most 500 mps. My questions is this. How fast are current Airport and Ethernet speeds? I know they speak of Gigabit wireless, so does that mean 1000mps and up?
If I'm currently using wireless in this case, do you think switching to coax would slow things down a lot, or would it work ok?
    thanks!

    802.11g aka "wireless-g" has a maximum theoretical speed of 54 megabits/second.
802.11n "wireless-n", has a maximum theoretical speed of 300 megabits/second, but to attain that it requires near-perfect conditions. It's normal to observe less than half that in actual use.
These vary according to many environmental phenomena that influence radio propagation. Observed speeds tend to be considerably less. "Gigabit Ethernet" isn't so influenced, but may also be less than 1000 Mb/s due to other network factors.

  • Tcpip.sys related BSOD in Vista at either wifi/ ethernet network connection with my university

    Dear all,
    laptop:: Lenovo X61s 3G L7700
OS version: windows Vista business Sp1
    tcpip.sys version: 6.0.6001.22167
wifi: Intel 4965AGN. Standard Gigabyte intel ethernet 82566MM
system drivers and BIOS are the most updated driver.
At my 2 homes using ADSL routers, there are absolutely no problems with network connection by wifi or ethernet. However, blue screen occurs when I bring this laptop to university and connect to the network via either ethernet or wifi. This happened to me a few months back. It crashed EVERY TIME when a network connection was attempted. It did not matter whether I updated my drivers on both wifi or ethernet cards. Whenever I bring it to either of my2 homes, no blue screen ever occurs.
It also happens when I attempt to connect to free wifi network in the airport. It crashes again with EXACTLY the same problem. I have to admit that I do not even where to start looking for the problems. System restore did not solve this either. I ran the WinBug analysis. It pointed towards tcpip.sys. My sys ver is at the top of this message.
Would appreciate if someone can point this to the right direction. I am seriously thinking of downgrading this to XP, since it had NEVER happened to XP.
    thanks,
    VIncent

    Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken

    Per my original post:
"When my ATV is connected via ethernet, and I attempt to play some internet radio stations, some will work just fine while others won't.  For example, when connected to my home network via ethernet, some internet radio channels (I can't give a percentage because I haven't tested all of them) will play just fine, however, others won't.  The ATV will attempt to connect, but the spinning progress bar just goes and goes and goes until it eventually errors out (no error number is provided, it just says that there was trouble loading the content).  The funny thing (or not so funny thing actually) is that if I unplug the ethernet cable, and connect my ATV to the network via wifi, those same stations that didn't play when ATV was connected via ethernet, WILL play when ATV is connected via wifi.  So, in short, some stations play just fine when ATV is connected to home network, through wireless router, via either wifi OR ethernet, yet some will only play when ATV is connected to home network via wifi.  I have found this to be the same when it comes to downloading or refreshing the photos in my photo stream.  If I throw new photos in my photo stream on iCloud, and the ATV is connected via ethernet, they won't refresh to the ATV, however, if I unplug the ATV and connect via wifi they begin to refresh."
There are dozens of original threads out there that report of similar - if not exact, issues.  I have contacted "Roy" per his request and not heard back from him (if such a person exists).  I have "restored" my ATV and rebooted all equipment to no avail.  Until Apple gets with it, acknowledges their problem, and fixes it, I am resigned to just having to deal with switching back and forth from wifi to ethernet, and so on.

  • I have a G5 and iBook with PowerPC/iTunes 10....just recently I can't bring up the preset Internet radio on either one. Is this a glitch, or have they been permanently disabled for older versions of iTunes?

I should have posted this for you a while ago. My apologies for not doing it sooner. This was passed on to me by another user R C-R
He deserves the credit for this workaround. This is his post from an area in the forum where you have to be level 6 or higher in which to participate.
I am getting the same (global) error using iTunes 10.3.1 on a 2008 MacBook running 10.6.8.
A really, really awkward workaround that works for me (for now) is if you have the URL of the Internet radio server you can go to Advanced > Open Stream... (in iTunes 10.x) or type command + U, enter it there & click OK. The station should play fine in 10.x.
You can get the URL from any version of iTunes that still supports the "radio tuning service" (which I gather is an Apple server thing Apple is no longer supporting for 10.x). Play the station normally from the newer version & type command + I to open the info window. At the bottom of the "Summary" tab you will see the URL. (Annoyingly, you can't copy the text so you will have to write it down.)
Once you have that, you can play the station in 10.x & add it to a playlist for future use.
To check this out, maybe try http://198.27.80.37/stream/mbarsott.pls -- it is a European Jazz station that works fine for me with iTunes 10.3.1.
This workaround does work, but is a bit cumbersome. I'm still holding out hope that it is just a glitch.

  • Not sure if i should get one

I want a macbook,i really do. But its getting closer and closer to the time that im planning on buying one, and im not sure if i should get one yet. Im a sophmore in highschool, and i need a computer for highschool. I know im going to end up getting some bias answers but--Should i get a macbook now, or should i get some other computer? The computer that im going to get is going to have to last from now till--hopefully--the end of collage. So is there another computer that i should get, and get a mac sometime in the future? maybe even before collage and just have some cheap thing for highschool. I just want your opinions, im not trying to starts some kind of mac v. not mac arguement. I just didnt know where a good place to ask would be so i decided to ask here. Thanks Alot.

I used both Mac and PCs during college.
As a recent graduate, it was very important that I paid attention to my major and class requirements. Several classes I had required Internet Explorer, MS Project, and Visio.
At the time the best choice for me was a PC. However, as a owner of a MacBook, I now dual boot and have the best of both worlds. However, dual booting does require a Windows XP Pro "SP2" disc.
    *Getting Windows XP*
Around college you should not have a problem getting this. A single XP license actually allows you to install the OS on (1) PC and (1) Notebook. Finding another copy shouldn't be that difficult. And if worse comes to worse, you just call Microsoft (some place in India) and activate the copy over the phone. Just tell them the copy is on one PC to make it a quick phone call, they can't understand much more let alone any explanation of the license and if it was uninstalled off another computer.
    *Word Processor*
I use Word 2004 for Mac. It functions well, but I feel Word 2003 is still better.
    *School Software*
I would also check with your school and see what software you get with your tuition. Some schools just give out AntiVirus crap, others provide entire Office Suites. So if you are going for broke, keeping software cost in your plan is a good idea.
    *Final Opinion*
If it were me, I would go with the MacBook. Because I know how to hunt for software, I don't figure it paying for any. The MacBook is actually a very competitive price. Since Apple provides the option to run Windows, why not get a MacBook to take advantage of both OS X and Windows environments.

Removing cookies does not work, either one at a time, or remove all. I tried from history and from the options screen. They appear to go away but when I go back in they are all back again. This is happening in the latest version that was automatically updated.'''bold text'''
