Should I avoid the Yoga?

After looking at quite a few laptops, none of them stick out as much as the Yoga. I am in love with the vibrant IPS screen with the 1600x900 resolution display (because 1080p makes text too small and I don't believe in switching DPI). The design is sleek - it looks very simple and elegant.
But it seems that there are many, many issues with the device. I understand that the constantly-on fan and touchpad can be fixed with driver updates or BIOS updates but now there are threads popping up with physical problems such as the fan hitting the housing - thus making a rattling noise - and that the paint is starting to chip off.
Still it's impossible to tell what percentage of Yoga owners are having issues so I was just hoping that you guys could chime in and say what happened to your Yoga i.e. have you kept it, if you are keeping it - does it have issues that you are dealing with, or have you returned it because the issues were too much to bear.

I think you would be very happy with a Yoga 13. The day Windows 8 was released, I went to my Local BestBuy in search of a tablet with a Core i5 processor. I REALLY wanted a stand alone tablet that ran full Windows 8. At the time, the only tablet available at BestBuy was the Asus RT tablet with detachable keyboard. I played with it for a while to get familiar with the OS, but there was no way that I would spend $600 for a 32gb RT tablet. I initially had my mind set on an Acer Iconia w700 or a Samsung Smart PC Pro, but they hadn't been released yet . A blessing in disguise.
Then, I saw the Yoga 13. Honestly, before spending any time with the Yoga, I thought the ability for it to rotate from an ultrabook into a tablet was sorta "gimmicky". Once I got my hands on it, I noticed that this was not a gimmick, but instead, a very solid machine that I could see myself using on a regular basis.
Here's what lured me to the Yoga 13:
--Full Windows 8 installed
--Large nice display.
--Very sturdy hinges that rotate 180 degrees.
--Solid build quality. Nice leathery palm rest.
--Having the option to have a keyboard or precision pointing when needed without having to worry about misplacing a detachable keyboard. (Don't think I could use an on-screen keyboard full-time. Especially on a 10" or 11" display)
--Multiple USB ports without the need of a hub or docking station.
--Uses the same Standard SD as my digital camera
--Very upgradeable. (I learned this after making the purchase)
--You get all of this for $1000
I ordered my Yoga 13 from BestBuy on 11/2 and picked it up on 11/7. I could've returned it within 30 days if I saw something better. Fortunately, I didn't. I mean, this system is so upgradeable with the ability to swap out the 4gb memory card for an 8gb card, and add an EXTRA 128gb or 256gb mSATA card. Crucial.com has the 8gb memory card for $38 and the mSATA cards are $106 and $206. I purchased a 1 year warranty and 1year tech support through BestBuy. Once I get the 8gb memory card and mSATA card, BestBuy will install it as long as it's compatible.
As for the issues,
Yes, the fan is always on, but it's not overwhelming at all. You only notice it in low volume environments or when you think about it. You won't really notice it with everyday sounds such as TV noise, chatter, etc. Besides, I'd rather hear a little fan noise than having a hot ultrabook. I haven't had problems with it being hot or the fan hitting the housing or the paint chipping off, but I treat this thing like a baby. A $1000 baby. I have the Lenovo Slot-In case for it and I put that in another case for traveling. The Slot-In case also doubles as a keyboard cover for those that feel uncomfortable when the keys are resting on your palm in tablet mode.
The touchpad is hit and miss when bringing up the charms or menu bar, but I believe it will be fixed.
I recommend that you purchase a stylus as the 13.3" screen can be a lot of area to cover while in tablet mode, and it reduces finger prints on the screen. This also helps when the touchpad is as responsive.
My only gripe is the horrible partitioning on this device out of the box. As already mentioned, there is a hotfix that combines the C and D drives, but you will have 80gb free, not 100gb. The total C drive is 100gb using 20gb for the OS and apps. The rest must be hidden for Recovery. No worries. Pop in a 64gb SD card and you will have !40gb of free space, or purchase another 120gb or 256gb drive if needed. I was impressed that Lenovo made this fix in less than a month after it's release.

Most pages have layouts for pictures only or pictures with text boxes. Either select the same layout for that page but the one without the text box or put a space in the text box.
Putting a space in the text box will avoid getting the warning when ordering that there's an unfilled text box in the book. The box will not be visible in the final product. You can and should check the book before ordering by previewing it as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it

Should I change the Desktop Wallpaper to avoid pixel burning?

Hi there.
I noticed that my old 30-inch Cinema Display had pixel burning becasue I had the same Desktop Wallpaper all the time, now I have a Thunderbolt Display and I want to avoid this to happen.
Should I setup the desktop wallpaper to change every x amount of time? or is it just my imagination and anyway the pixels just dim and burn with the years?

Query to populate an alert message to avoid the duplication of Reference no

SUB:Query to populate an alert message to avoid the duplication of BP reference no.
In A/R invoice, BP reference (numAtcard) is used to enter sales Order no as the reference number. As human error, double A/R invoice is created to that particular Sales Order no.
So,I want a formatted search query in that BP reference field, so that when i type the sales order number and give tab, it should populate the alert message if it already exists.
Moreover i do not want to block it through store procedure method, only warning is required to my scenario.

Is there any way to have an ipad wifi 3G but not use the 3G (therefore avoiding the extra data plan costs) and just use the wifi?

i am looking to buy an ipad 2 or the new ipad (preferably 32gb) but dont want to buy the 3G version as i have unlimited data usage in my mobile phone plan, i know the wifi only ipad is generally cheaper, but i was wondering if there was a way to buy the ipad with 3G capabilities but not use the 3G and avoid the cost of paying the extra unnecessary data plan? The only difference between the one that gives the ORA-03113 and the above is the way the join is written. The ANSI way (INNER JOIN) fails, the old way (WHERE clause) succeeds.
I will open a SR with Oracle so that it may be recorded and fixed.

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

How to avoid the anonymous login using RIMLoginModule?

Hi everybody,
we have configured the RIMLoginModule on a WebAS to enable SSO on Blackberry devices. The login module works as expected when the Rim-device-email header parameter is available in the request. But without this header an automatic login occures using the anonymous user. How should we configure the module or the security provider to avoid this behaviour?
Note: if we lock the anonymous user, the problem is solved. But, we want to keep the anonymous user unlocked and configure the module to use a basic authentication when the Rim-device-email pamaeter is missed in the request.

You need to set up the anonymous user (via Admin). Add him to the
defaultRole and then you can assign the channels to the anonymous user as
per normal.

WLC cert to avoid the security warning page

Hi guys,
I am doing some tests with installiing a 3rd party cert on a WLC to avoid the security warning page when trying to access the WLC through https, and I am following the following configuration example:

I have followed the same precedures given in the above document, and I am using windows CA to sign the CSR just for a test, I could install the final .pem cert successfully onto the WLC however I am still getting the same warning page when I was trying to login to the WLC through https. I have checked in my certificate store and I have trusted the root CA which is the windows CA in this case.
I have also tried to access the WLC from the CA server (windows 2008 box) still getting the same warning message.
so what should I do in order to make this to work with windows CA? did I missed something in the configuration?

ok guys.... I was wrong last time... actually after double check again it was NOT working .... I think i just simply trusted the cert last time when i was using firefox....
I have tried a number of different things and double checked the places that mentioned previously in this thread however I could not pick up anything wrong in particular, although I know there must be something I have missed out.....
so this time I have also read through some other references on the web, and found the following:

I have double checked the following:
on virtual interface configuration, I have ip address 1.1.1.1 and DNS host name as "wlc2112.mydomain.local"
from the controller GUI --> Security --> web auth --> certificate, under subject name, I have CN=wlc2112.mydomain.local, however under Issuer name, I have CN=mydomain, this is a bit different from the last screen shot in the above link. could this be a problem?
in windows 2003 server, with DNS server I have a field called "wlc2112" with IP address 1.1.1.1
as mentioned by Scott previously, I went to the mmc certificate snap in, and under trusted root certificate authorities, I have installed the WLC cert there and I could see it there as well.
now if I try to access the WLC GUI from here I am still getting the error message same as the one below:

I have no idea where is this come from, so I just want to ask when I try to access the WLC GUI through a web browser, after I type in https://wlc-ip-address, how does the browser know / search for which certificate it needs to look into? I think in my case here it clearly points to the wrong certificate?
also on the server I went to http://127.0.0.1/certsrv and selected "download a CA certificate, certificate chain or CRL" and then "install this CA certificate chain", does this mean I acknowledge to trust the root CA by doing this?
I am not sure what I have missed out but it just does not work for some reason... is there any other places that I need to check/verify?

I abandoned LR2 several years ago because it crashed from my hierarchical list of 12,000 keywords. (Botanical and common names and other terms.) I have been using CS5/Camera Raw/Bridge to manage and edit my images. The hierarchical list is necessary for my stock photo business.
I will soon be needing to compare and edit images for a book publication and gallery show and I am thinking I may need to return to LR so I can work more effciently. I do not care about not exporting some keywords or synonyms etc. I think (right now anyway) that it is fine that all keywords associated with the images get exported for my stock submissions. I ususally check off only the sub-keywords or sub-sub-sub keywords.
Here are my questions:
1) Is LR 3 able to handle my huge list of hierarchical keywords which is now larger than 12,000 words?
2) Should I upgrade to LR3 and not to LR4 to avoid the keyword mess I have been reading about but don't understand very well?
3) Is it possible to even upgrade to LR3 now that LR4 is released?
3) Would LR4 handle my keywords better or worse than LR2? Than LR3?
4) Is there a work efficiency reason to upgrade to CS6 without using any version of LR and continue using Bridge and Camera Raw as I have been?
5) Is there anything else I have not thought to ask? I am somewhat technically challenged and dread learning new software, having been burned in the past with ExpressionsMedia disaster and LR2 which crashed etc.

I try to answer your questions. I also have a large list of hierarchical keywords (funny ... also botanical names) but not as much as you have.
1) I think that Lr3 is able to handle your list of keywords. I have not heard from anybody that there is a limit to the number of keywords that Lr is able to handle.
2) There seem to be some keyword issues in Lr4. My keywords were perfectly fine in Lr3 but after upgrading to Lr4 some of my keywords were not populated, meaning that the keywords themselves were listed in the keyword list but the image count showed 0. I still have my Lr3 catalog so was able to check (with Lr3) that, indeed, in Lr3 all the keywords in question were populated with the correct number of images. Fortunately there were not too many of these not-populated keywords, so I corrected the issue manually.
Since correct keywords are mandatory for your stock business, you are right in hesitating to upgrade to Lr4. In my opinion, the improvements that Lr4 offers over Lr3 are mainly in areas that are - probably - not so important to a stock business: improvements in the Develop Module and new Process Version, the Book Module, the map Module. On the other hand I would think that image management is paramount for you and in this area Lr4 is not much different than Lr3.
3) You will not be able to get an upgrade to Lr3 from Adobe now that Lr4 has been released. So you had to find a 3rd party vendor (B&H? Amazon?) who still sells Lr3.
4) Apart from the issue described above, I don't see any difference in keyword handling between Lr3 and Lr4. Lr2 is too far back for me - I don't remember.
5) My suggestion for you would be: You have to upgrade at some point. The longer you wait, the more difficult the transition will be because the differences of future versions to Lr2 will become greater. Since at the moment version 4.1 is in the works (there have been two RCs (Release candidates) of version 4.1 already), maybe it would be wise to wait until the final 4.1 version is out. maybe the keyword issues have been fixed.
6) You can "upgrade" to Lr4 and still have Lr2 on your system. All the Lr versions are stand-alone versions, not "plug-ins" for the previous versions. So you can have two (or more) different Lr versions on your system. So I would suggest that you upgrade to Lr 4.1 (once this version is out) but leave Lr2 on your system. When you Lr4 you will be asked if you want to upgrade your Lr catalog to Lr4 and you have the option of saving the Lr4 catalog as a different file, so that your Lr2 catalog is still available for Lr2 (Lr2 will not be able to work with the Lr4 catalog!). That way, if anything is amiss in Lr4 you can go back to Lr2 and work from there.

Flex mobile? should I avoid it?

I need to develop an app for mobile... And it looks like the Flex mobile framework is a huge time saver!
But I know the adobe dropped Flex to Apache... Should I avoid using it?

The AIR SDK and Flex SDK are different. For example you probably have AIR inside your flash environment but try loading something from the Flex SDK like something a spark component would use:
e.g. Flex:
import mx.collections.ArrayCollection;
Does that work for you? Probably not. It's only part of a modern Flex install.
Flex mobile introduces the spark components which are all mobile optimized. Adobe AIR is the runtime (VM) that gets exported captive and compiled down to ARM. You don't need to have a single Flex component in your AIR for Mobile project. AIR for Mobile does not require Flex.

But when I try to connect WLAN via EAP with RADIUS initially, I should click the accept button for the certificate of the RADIUS Server.

Avoiding the need to reselect the editing tools (underline, highlight, strikethrough) in acrobat x

i have long wished to find a way to avoid the need to reselect the editing tools (underline, highlight, strikethrough) in acrobat x. this was the case in version 8, it meant that you could make multiple underlines etc in a document without returning to the toolbar each time to select the tool.
any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Bring up the Properties toolbar (Command+E) and select the tool you want. You should see a "Keep tool selected" check box.

Avoid the deletion of delivery when the user press the delete button

Hi guys,
In VL02N transaction, when the user press the button for delete the delivery (trash button) i have to send an idoc to an external system in order to inform about. Im using IF_EX_LE_SHP_DELIVERY_PROC~DELIVERY_DELETION for this and it works fine.
After send the idoc i have to stop the deletion process. So How i can avoid the delivery deletion? I can change some flag in this BADI or maybe i can do something in userexit_delete_document? I dont find the way.

HI,
In the method SAVE_DOCUMENT_PREPARE; try to pass some error messages in the parameter CT_LOG.
This should raise some messages before saving and the data will not be saved and hence delivery will not be deleted.
Check the same.

How can I avoid the need for Administrator rights for open registry key.vi

Dear wire workers.
I would like to do an EXCEL export.
Therefore I like to check if EXCEL is installed or not.
I use 'open registry key.vi' and read out the Excel\InstallRoot.
If there is an installed EXCEL than I export the data using ActiveX.
Everything works like a charm with LV 8.5.
The problem I have is that 'open registry key.vi' useses RegOpenKeyExA from the Advapi32.dll.
RegOpenKeyEx does, in fact, create a non-existing key and returns 0 (ERROR_SUCCESS?).
LONG lRegResult = RegOpenKeyEx(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, m_RegSubKey, 0, KEY_QUERY_VALUE + KEY_WRITE, &hkRegistry);
Successfully opens or creates m_RegSubKey under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Is there a way aroun this call?
In fact you need administrator rights to do this call because of the try to write a non exsisting key.
In my case this avoids the EXCEL export and any kind of registry access from LabVIEW without administrator rights.
:-) Who the hell has done this ;-)

Did you try to wire a "KEY_READ" constant to the security access mask input of the open registry key VI? I had a similar problem, if you just need to read a key or check if it's present use read access only, that should work.
