Should I Be Worried(Go Ipod Instead?)(Zen Micro Proble

Thus far I've heard of quite a few issues with the Zen Micro. The most common ones I've heard of are freezing and the headphone jack problem. Now, at the moment I've experienced 2 issues that are really starting to worry me. Should I just go with an iPod Mini and avoid all the issues? What seems more problematic(Directed at people who do their research before buying) the Ipod Mini or the Zen micro? What are the major issues with the iPod mini compared to the Zen micro?
Here are the issues I've experienced:
)My Back, Menu Options, and Play/Pause buttons are incredibly stiff at times(especially when I first turn on the Micro)and I have to press them REALLY hard to get them working. Is there a fix for this? Is it something I should worry about?
2)Last night I encountered my second problem. It froze up for the first time. I was playing around with the Micro, and decided to test out the removable disk function. Just as it was partioning, it froze. I had to take out the battery. Should I be worried? Should I just go with another mp3 player instead? Please help me out. Has this happened to anyone else?
I APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP!

XXT0t wrote:So you guys think I should exchange my Zen for another Zen because of the button problem? I mean, when the headphones are plugged in it works perfectly, but when I take them out the buttons are really stiff, as stated before my sensitivity is at High. Help.
If it's a big issue for you contact Creative Support first to check it's not a known issue, or update the firmware at the very least.
Also, I'm not too sure wether or not I should upgrade my firmware. As stated before the only issue Ive encountered other than the button problems, is that ONE time it froze during removable disk mode.
The ..0 has a very useful fix that reduces the standby period from 24 to 4 hours, increasing the battery life (although it depends on usage a little).
What are the differences between firmware 2.20.05 and ..0 ? Is one better than the other? Does one fix more issues than the other? Please keep the help coming.

  • More Zen Micro Proble

    I looked about and sifted through the board, but I haven't come across this problem, so I figured I'd ask. I'm sorry if it has been mentioned before.
    I recently redid my computer, bigger harddri've and what have you, so I had to reinstall all my drivers and applications. While doing this I noticed there was some firmware I should probably download, so I did (v2). Well, since then my computer won't recognize my Zen if I paid it. I relized a month later that I downloaded the wrong firmware, erased everything, reinstalled (v) and yay for me, my comp sees my Zen now.
    Here is my problem.
    When installing firmware, everything gets erased. I knew this so it didn't surprise me. Now tht I have everything fixed and can put music back on to it, it won't work. It keep getting an error telling me that whatever I put into it is wrong format or corrupted. That's not possible, because they are the same songs I had in there before hand.
    Any suggestions as to what it could be or how to fix it's

    Have you tried with both MediaSource and Zen Micro Media Explorer? I'm not sure what you're using at the moment...
    I'm using MediaSource, that's the one I've been using the whole time since I got it.
    I'll try the Explorer and see if that works, do I need to uninstall MediaSource first?

  • Help! Zen Micro probl

    Hello I have had me Zen micro for about a year (the actual player, i had a previous one replaced from the headphone jack issue..)
    I have USB 2.0 and windows XP. My player has taken many small dings in the past and been fine..but then it fell from my bed one night. Now when it starts up, it freezes at the screen that says "creative" and does not clear until the battery is removed. I CAN access recovery mode, and have tried all of the options, however now i cannot reload the firmware as my player is not detected! I see the firmware reload problem is common in this server with still no viable solution....And it has been taken apart in the past to fix the switch so if there is a possible way to fix this issue (disconnected wire or something) then i can do it. I have been considering getting an IPOD...but i like creative brand and freedom in software and files for the mp3 player. It seems i may have to just get a new zen micro. The higher capacity ones are still just too pricey...and being a college student i dont have much $ to throw around...

    hey there, yes when i was running i bumped the bottem of my micro into my cell phone in my pocket...and it wouldnt turn on or anything...so i hit the top of it to like shift back anything that might have shifed when i hit the bottem of the players...and to my surpise it works again

    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>I bought my Zen Micro after seeing it at Digital Media show. I have had nothing but problems with this player and rudeness of Creative support staff is out of this world. I followed all the suggestions about charging the battery. Charging it for more than 3 hours for the first time; draining the battery and charging it again. Overall the battery looses power with in 5 to 6 hours with NO backlight, 30% contrast with no activity such as forward and reverse or looking up songs. <SPAN>Battery<SPAN> life is nothing compared to 2 hours advertised by Creative.
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>Every time I called support, there is some college kid who sounds high and says to download the latest firmware. Creative can do a little better job in training their support staff.
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>I am planning to send mine back to Creative to get it checked out.
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>If you got this player for XMAS do not open it, return it and look at alternati'ves, or wait for the 2nd generation of this player when creative can deli'ver a clean product.<SPAN>
    <SPAN>
    <SPAN>Creative should make it clear that 2 hour battery life is combined battery life of 2 batteries that they supplying. LOL

    I just sent my Micro back for replacement. I decided to give them another chance even though I had a faulty product right out of the box. If you think about it they may have sold somthing like 00,000 Micros and lets say only 00 ( Estimated from the number of people on the forum posting) have been defecti've. A .% defect rate is something that borders on insignificant. If this number is in the thousands then a real problem emerges for Creative, and more importantly for it's customers. I will give them the benefit of the doubt while keeping a watchful eye out for any devoloping trends. I bought a white zen micro on the 8th from Creative's website. The only complaint I had abou the tech support was the fact that you cannot access it through a -800 number. Its a 402 area code which is in friggin' Nebraska! Otherwise they were nothing steller and didn't put me through too much trouble to get it sent back.

  • Creative MediaSource Organizer w/ Zen Micro Probl

But it was much more convinent to use Organizer. Got any ideas? Thanks.
    p.s. when i click on MediaSource Organizer, it says it cannot find CTCMS.exe and before i re-installed it, i clicked the icon and nothing happened.

    Zen Xtra 30G
    I have the same problem. I have actualized my Zen Xtra with the firmware: 2.0.03 and the Creative Mediasource doesn't recognize the Zen Xtra since then.
    I have the latest mediasource ( 3.30.2 ), which requires windows xp sp2 (that I have).
    The compluter explorer does recognize it, but not the organizer, so it is awful trying to organize songs.
    Do I need another version of MediaSource?
    Can I organize songs with Windows Media Player? because it only recognizes it to sincronize, but not to change the name of the songs and so on.
    Help!!! Please!!
    Thanks

  • MY Zen Micro probl

    [color="#ff6600" face="Comic Sans MS">I have a Black 4gb Zen Micro and some things have happened. Sure, I dropped it once or twice, but this time, I wasn't quite so lucky. It landed on the face and it froze and?would not stop?clicking. I tried a clean up, reload, etc. I've tried hitting it in multiple places with multiple forces and i've gotten nothing from it still. I took it to Fry's where?I got it and they would only give me a fraction of the price because they no longer carry it. If someone has some form of helpful information I would be ever so grateful. Thanks.

    Many reported this type of battery life issue when the Zen Micros were first released, prompting Creative to release an update to it's firmware that is supposed to address this issue.
    In answer to your question, Firmware is essentially the "Operating System" for the Zen Micro. Just like Microsoft releasing updates to Windows to fix bugs, improve performance, etc.... Creative released Firmware updates to fix bugs, improve performance, add additional Windows Media Player 0 support, etc.
    I've downloaded both Firmware updates found at http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp , and have had great success overall. Others have reported that their battery li'ves improved after the upgrade, while a few have reported similar behavior. The best thing to do is install the update, and see how it works for you. It's free, and is a great improvement in my book.

  • More Zen Micro probl

    Okay, So I've had multiple problems and now I have a headphone jack problem. I'm currently covered by the warranty, only, I dropped it, so i figured that won't be covered. Anyways, the headphone jack is all jacked up(no pun intended). I had to move the wire around for a good 5 minutes to get the sound working. and even longer if i'm trying to get sound out of both ears. I've tried other headphones and have yet to get this problem solved. Any requests? Thanks for the help.

  • Can't detect Zen Micro Ph

    Hello!
    I have installed my Zen Micro Photo (on WinXP) like I should, but I can't find my Zen Micro Photo in "Zen MicroPhoto Media Explorer". What is wrong? First I installed the software, than I connected the player but still is says "Deviced Connected: 0".
    This is what I installed:
    - Creative Zen MicroPhoto
    - Media Toolbox
    - Creative MediaSource
    - Creative Removable Disc ManagerMessage Edited by lonni on 0-29-2005 04:03 PM

    does the micro say "docked" on it's if not then its not being dected by the computer, sometimes when this happens i open up windows media player 0 and i select the "sync" tab, windows will then check for an external hardware device (micro) and find the micro. It works everytime for me i'd give it a try. if you connect your micro and it tells you that there windows has found new hardware then the drivers arn't installed correctly.
    good luck

    OK? The Micro actually does not have better sound quality, and if it had you would probably not hear it anyway - the iPods all have excellent quality sound, as well as the Creative players. Both the iPod photo and mini have better battery life.
    Do the iPods have many problems? Check the mp3 forums on these pages: http://forums.creative.com
    I do not want to bash the Creative players, but please... get your facts straight and stop talking about Apples mp3-players on these forums. This is a Creative forum.

  • Problem installing Zen Micro on XP compu

    Hi,
    I recently had a Firmware Problem on my Zen Micro and I was able to fix it by upgrading the Firmware to version 2.2.02.
    After doing that my player works fine, but it won't install on my PC (Windows XP). I have tried installing and re-installing all the stuff that came on the original installation CD as well as downloading tons of stuff from creative.com. My guess is that the drivers or something might not?be compatible with my new firmware...
    So my computer does detect the Zen Micro when I connect it and 'Found New Harware Wizard' starts. I choose "Install the software automatically" and click "Next". Then the Wizard searches and finds an MTP device (by the way what does MTP stand for?) and tries to install. Then I get this message:
    "Cannot Install this Hardware
    There was a problem installing this hardware:
    MTP Device
    An error occurred during the installation of the device
    The specified service does not exist as an installed service."
    What is the "specified service"? What's wrong and what should I do?
    Oh,?My Zen Micro is shown in Device Manager, but with the yellow exclamation mark symbol.

    Thanks for your response.
    It seems like I cannot download WMP since the Windows Genuine Validation won't work.. Says that I have a pirate copy of Windows although it definiti'vely is real... I guess I should contact Microsoft... This is getting ridiculous, or annoying at least...
    Oh, maybe I should mention that I removed WMP from my computer since I was adviced to do so previously. But it should work with WMP0, right Well, can't reload that either because of the validation problem...
    I tried downloading Creative Media Source Player/Organizer 5.0.38, but when trying to install I get the following message:
    "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system".

    My new iPod 5th gen did the same! I think it might be a YouTube and iOS connection glitch

    Unless you have a company or school iPod, that profile was installed by an app you installed. It is likely that the app will no longer function when that date is reached. You can Google the name of the profile and that may provide some more information.
