Should I buy a 20" display or HD 23" display for color grading?

Even though I shot my film on HD (720p), the end result will be displayed on normal LCD/Plasma televisions, so wouldn't the 20" display be more comparable to do grading work on?
I guess what I'm saying is, I'm not sure I see the point in buying the 23" HD display when no TV out there can reproduce the quality of that image yet.
Any input would be appreciated (but budget is an issue, so broadcast monitors are not an option)
Thanks.
James

Jerry- to expand upon this question. I will be upgrading my hardware in the next few months to accomodate FCS2. I currently run 2 20inch Apple cinema displays. If I ad a Matrox box and 23inch display coming off of it, will I still be able to use my 2 20 inch displays to view my timeline, viewer, canvas etc. Or will I need to replace them with a larger display ie 30 inch cinema display? ,thanks.

The iPhone's warranty doesn't cover accidental damage, but you can search the web for another company that can repair the iPhone.

  • Which should I buy, 13 inch or 15 inch (Late 2013) for Graphic Design?

Hi! I'm in the market for a new laptop and after doing research for a month+ I've decided to go with a MacBook Pro (my first). The thing is, even after all my research (I've practically scoured the whole web), I can't figure out whether it's better for me to get the mid spec (2.4ghz/8gb/256gb) 13 inch rMBP, the low end 15 inch rmbp (2.0ghz/8gb/256gb), or the top spec 15 inch rMBP (2.3ghz/16gb/512gb). If I get the mid spec 13 inch or the low end 15 inch, I  will spring for the 16gb upgrade.
I was wondering if I could get the community's advice as to what is best suited for my needs. I'm thinking the 13 inch will be okay for me but I'm worried about the GPU not being able to handle what I need to do. I'm willing to spend the money for the $2599 model if I must, but if I don't need to spend that much on it, then I'd be happier. I don't want to spend on a laptop that's way more than what I need.
256gb space is more than enough for me, so ssd size is not a consideration.
Here is how I'll use it:
    - (Most probably multitasking these all at the same time)
    - Skype/Facetime/Instant Messengers
    - Web browsing (most commonly with around 30-40 tabs at a time)
    - Heavy Adobe Photoshop-10 hours 5 days a week (sometimes I also use Illustrator and Flash)
    - Video editing here and there (maybe once or twice weekly)
    - Streaming video/music OR playing music/video via iTunes or VLC
    - Some downloading here and there
    - Rarely, I'll also use it for word processing
I do a little gaming here and there, but most likely I'll only be playing Diablo III, Path of Exile, and Sims 3 (or 4 when it comes out), so I do need a computer that can handle it.
    Considerations:
    - I work at home so I'm not too concerned with the lessened portability of the 15 inch. I DO NOT want an iMac, please do not suggest that to me!
    - I'm on my computer almost 18 hours a day and will need a computer that can keep up
    - I'd like for the laptop to last me at least 4 years, since it's a big spend

Thanks! What I do want to know however is if the tasks I need to do can be handled without the dedicated video card? Also since I'm multitasking, is it better if I go for the quadcore?
I wish you could put a video card in the 13 inch. :/

  • Calibrating display for color critical work

Anyone was able to calibrate iMac using i1 or Monaco Optix or something and is using for critical color work? How is your color match?
How would you compare to Apple Cinema Displays or other decent LCDs?

I was thinking of buying new silver 24" iMac. I have i1 and Monaco Optix. I bought already 20" iMac and I don't like it too much - very bright. I was able to calibrate it so-so at 124 luminance with both ColorEyesDisplay and Monaco Optix XR.

  • Displays for color management

Current recommendations for good performing monitors at a reasonable price?

It would be helpful if you narrow down what you consider "a reasonable price."
Of course it is essential that you tell us what kind of work you do and whether you have a good understanding of the theory and practice of color management.
Without any further information, the only recommendations I would have are:
NEC MultiSync PA241W-BK-SV 24.1" Widescreen LCD Monitor with SpectraViewII Color Calibration
    and
NEC 24" Widescreen Professional Graphics Monitor with SpectraView II

Or is this just a kit and not the drive?
I'm not sure what you mean by that, but the nature of your question implies that you should shop for one from a company well known to support Macs, can help you decide what you need, how to install it, and provide free technical support should you require it. OWC / MacSales can do all that and their prices are as good as any you are likely to find from anyone else.

  • What license should i buy when buying  ebusiness suite

    Dear Sirs...
i am facing a problem of what license should i buy.
i would like to use oracle financials for example... as far as i know i can buy the financials license only if and only if i am installing this application on one server, so i should buy:
    oracle financial user licenses
now if i want to use clustering on the financials (for 2 servers each with one cpu), then i should buy the license of:
    oracle financial user licenses
oracle database server license x 2
    oracle clustering license x 2
    my question now is:
if i am installing financials on a server with 4 cpus, then the license that i will buy will be
    oracle financial user licenses
    is this correct???? or not?
please where can i find such oracle license details?
thanks for any help in advance
    best regards

    Dear Sir...
    just to make sure...
assume i have a company with 200 employees, i want to use finacials application, the application will be deployed on a single server with 4 cpus. the quantity of the license i should buy now is:
    1- 10% of the 200 users = 20 user license, or
    2- 10% of the 200 users =20 x 4 cpus = 80 user license, or
    3- 200 user license, or
    4- 200 x 4 = 800 user license ?
it is supposed i should buy 10% of the 200 users = 20 user license, but i am getting confused because terms of named user plus and cpu license.
is there anyone who can conform which one is correct?
    thanks in advance

  • Should I buy the imac with expandable memory slot for future os upgrade size?

Should I buy the imac with expandable 8gb memory slot for future os upgrade size?

I Always try to have a little more RAM on my computers that I think I'll need when I purchase them. Either have more ram installed when you order the iMac or purchase one with open slots for upgrading.
I Purchase my iMac 5K with only 8 GB RAM but it had two open slots. As soon as I received the iMac I purchased two 8 GB modules form Other World Computeing. That brought my RAM to 24 GB. I run multiple applications and the iMac runs smoothly.

  • Have 21" mac display, should I buy mini or pro mac?

I have a 21" mac display but my pro mac was destroyed, should I buy new pro or mini mac?

If your Pro was pretty old and only a 4 core version,
circa 2008 or before, then the current crop of Minis
will probably not be that much of a difference, depending
on the graphics card you had in the Pro.
The Minis with the HD3000 integrated graphics are okay
for most general purpose uses and apps that are not
very graphics intensive.  The model with the Radeon
chip is an improvement, but only has 256k dedicated
    VRAM.
If the Pro was newer or was an 8 core or more, you will
    be very disappointed in performance.
Perhaps your best bet since moving from a Pro, is to
sell your display and get yourself an i7 equipped iMac.
Only 8 core Pros outperform them.  The new topend
Macbook Pros are real screamers as well.

  • HELP! I need some help from true Mac fans! What should I buy???

So, I'm moving to Japan, which has a couple of implications (other than the fact that my wife's parents and my parents are looking for any legal recourse to stop us from taking their only grandchild out of the country). More importantly however, I have had to sell my B&O TV and music system (different signals from the UK where we now live). I also decided to sell our stereo (or rather my wife decided it was too bulky so as long as it was not in the living room or bedroom I could keep it...). Finally, I need a new laptop for personal use. I have some friends that are absolute mac fans, who have convinced me to go over to the other side (i.e. yours).
The opportunity I now have is to create a complete system as I need a laptop, something to play my music, a TV, etc. Given I am starting from a clean sheet I was hoping somebody out there could help me 'design' a complete set-up. My wife and I are keen photographers (both photography and video), we like listening to music, and watching movies (we definitely need a region-free DVD player), so what should we buy?
Any input would be hugely appreciated.

OSX also supports IME right out of the box.
    日本語 ー わかりません
It sets up pretty well, too; I like it more than Mircrosoft's implementation (language bar).
Only thing to keep in mind is where you buy the MacBook; if you get it in Japan you'll get a Japanese keyboard, which displays most of the kana alongside the keys. You also get the conversion and switch keys on the keyboard itself, which is great.
The MacBook Power Unit is multi-voltage, so no matter where you pick it up the worst you need is a plug adapter; although getting one from apple would be best. Just don't think you need to buy a new power unit, only the plug and cable.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • Should I buy a new MBPr 15 or stay on iMac 2011?

The thing  is, that I am not really sure, should I buy this machine or not, because actually I am a film-maker and currently I have an iMac (2011), and looks like I will work in the field in the future. So I am considering of buying a base MacBook Pro Retina 15, which is with i7 2.7GHz, 16GB of memory, 512 flash storage + Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5.
And here is my iMac tech specs: i7 3.4GHz, 8GB of memory, 1TB 7200rpm hard drive + AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1024Mb.
Also, I am going do a lot of pretty heavy video-editing (Premiere, After Effects) on the notebook, because I am going to sell my iMac. Well, if buying the Macbook makes sense.
So the question is, will it make a big difference in speed of rendrering, overall quality of work progress, and editing itself. Also, I am interested in Photoshop, if you, guys, worked in photoshop (photographers or web-designers) on this machine please leave a reply about how it goes there, I mean, is there any lags or retina-display problems, because I am also planning to work in all of Adobe Software.
Also, sorry for my english, this is not my native language, and sorry if this topic is not in the right place. Peace!

You will find that the relative performance of the two units will be very similar.  see the attached bench test scores:
    http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks
Note that with the retina, your storage will be significantly less. Whether the resolution of the retina is worth the premium you have to decide.
Though I an not an Adobe user, I would think that the retina with SSD as well as 16 GB RAM should handle those applications without any difficulty.
    Ciao.

  • Which iPad Retina should I buy in the US so it will work in the UK?

I am going to the States next month and want to buy the new iPad there.  Which iPad Retina should I buy in the US so it will work in the UK, the AT&T or Verizon model? I'm probably staying with O2, but can't tell if different models are sold in the UK, or if its just the one.  If just the one, I can't find which model number it is for the UK. The apple store website isn't exactly clear on which model(s) is/are sold in the UK.

    Hi,
We don't have cellular, but I have often read many ques. and answers here just for my own info when we were first buying. I do know that in the past, Verizon had a different system than ATT and others. That could all have changed with LTE. I checked a couple of articles and found the following links which might help you. PLEASE NOTE these were published in March and May of 2012, so things might have changed with the new ipad 4. Also note that you can buy a cellular here without a contract that you could then set up with your own UK phone company.

You also said you wanted retina display and then said you were probably staying with 02. If by that you mean the ipad 2, I want to let you know that the ipad 2 does NOT have the retina display. That would mean you'd have to get the old discontinued 'new' ipad or the ipad 4. And if I were you, I would not even think of buying an old 'new ipad, even if there's a great sale on them. I'd go straight to the ipad 4.
Make sure you do as much research as possible.
    Hope this helps.

  • Which laptop should I buy?

I am going to a boarding high school... I have a couple old macs and need a new one for school. Ideally about $1500 or less, a little over is okay. I should only use mail, safari, calendar, firstclass, a little photoshop, watch movies, skype, word, itunes, play some games (im not a big gamer, but maybe a little minecraft or something), dropbox, chrome. I'm okay if its a little slow or freezes occasionally, it just has to meet basic needs. Besides that - there is a chance I would install windows 8.
Should I buy an air or a pro? And with which configs? I don't think I want the 11' screen, but if anyone is in a similar situation, screen size reccomendation is helpful. Besides that - anyone reccomend a wireless kayboard, trackpad, or mouse? Maybe one of those thunder display things? Should I buy an apple drive? Basically besides computer adivce, I want accessory advice.
*Note: I know its under macbook discussion, thats because it made me pick a category*

For a savings of 15% to 30% look at the Refurbished Mac page. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac  They all come with the full year warranty and you can buy Apple Care for them.
Time Machine will work with any external hard drive. No need to pay the Apple premium.
