Should I buy Logic Academic, or wait for Logic 8 or something?

I am reading up about Academic versions of Logic. I can get one, seeing as my brother is just starting college, however I also read it is not upgradable. This kind of worries me. What if I buy the academic, and right afterwods a new Logic comes out and I am in a bad position.
So do you think the Logic Academic would be worth it, even though its not upgradable? (I would purchase it around December or January)
Thanks.

I was in the same position as you 6 months ago and I went with the academic version. Look at it this way, even if you purchase 7.1 at academic pricing and then purchase an entire new version when Logic 8 comes out you will still spend less money than buying 7.1 at full price and then paying for the upgrade to 8. Remember, the upgrade to 8 will cost everyone a few hundred dollars, right. So assuming that Logic 8 is still offered as an academic version, and for around $500, then $500+$500 = $1000. But $1000+$200 = $1200. Of course you stop saving when you look down the road to Logic 9.
Also, I don't think that you would ever be "in a bad position" - as you suggest - even if you can't immediately upgrade. We all have upgrade ****, I know. But buying a version of an app like Logic and working with it for a few years without upgrading isn't a terrible thing. A rock solid system is more important than chasing every upgrade. Pro studios often don't upgrade immediately specifically for that reason. If you can get the tools in your hands now for half the price then go for it. While only my opinion, I would say get the academic version when you are ready to make the purchase and put the other $500, if you have it, toward a high-end mic or preamp.

I'm not sure why this is in the iTunes Store forum, but anyway, since we have no idea when a new iPhone model will be announced, we cannot advise you with anything other than guesses, and your guesses are probably as good as ours. It's certain that the iPhone 4S will be availble in August, but that's the only thing that's certain. But you have time, so you can wait and see if Apple announces anything before Aug. 4th.

  • Should I buy a 4S or wait for the 5 to go down in price

We are in the market for a new phone.  The entire family has gone to the Iphone so I feel it is time for us to join.  I think when you purchase a new phone you have to try and get the latest and greatest.  But difference in cost between the 4S and the 5 is substancial. I need to upgrade 2 phone ( one for my husband and one for myself).  Any suggestions?  Do you think the Iphone 5 will go down anytime soon?

Probably not, Apple controls those prices, it's a $100 difference every device you go up 4 is free, 4S $100, 5 $200.  I say just go with the 5, might as well get the most up to date device.
Then of course the 5s will be announced ;D

One of my favorite things about developing for iOS using Xcode is the Simulator. It runs any of the iOS devices simulated right on your Mac. If you don't have a hardware device to test your application on, the Xcode simulator will surely be your best friend.
So to answer your question less vaguely, yes. You can own the iPhone 5s and develop for the 6. There is no real release information of the iPhone 6 at the time anyways, so I would not let it play too large of a factor in your decision.

  • Buy MACBOOK now or wait for newer ?

I'm a student in college right now in need of a laptop and stuff. I'm not really looking for power as much as I'm looking for efficiency. My dilemma arises when I can buy a macbook with like -$100 or -$200 if your in college and stuff + a $300 iPod touch before september 15th or should i wait for the newer version of macbooks, which I heard will be released in mid-late september.
What is your opinion on this one? I can still live by and wait without a laptop as school just barely started so i barely need to talk notes and stuff...

Any resource you got saying they might be releasing new ones is pure conjecture.
    Don't trust such resources.
Read what I have to say about new Macs:

I think that you should not get a new MacBook now, because the fact that you "don't" need it now. Apple has not released any information about anything new, and they just released the new iMacs, MacBook Pros, MacBooks and MacBook Airs so I doubt that Apple will release any new computer products in the near future. Although Apple may surprise you, but I suggest waiting until you really need one, and then purchase it.

  • Buy Aperture 3 or wait for Aperture 4?

I'm looking to buy Aperture, but rumor has it version 4 is on the way. Should I buy version 3 now and hope 4 is a ways away or wait it out?
How likely is it if I buy version 3 now, apple will let me upgrade to 4 for free? I know there's no upcoming apple events (that have been annouced anyway), but is it possible they will just push it out without an event?

No one here can answer your question. We are users just like yourself so we know nothing about what when Apple will release anything.

  • Logical standby stuck waiting for dictionary logs

    Hello,
I created a logical standby (v. 10.2.0.3). It is in state 'WAITING FOR DICTIONARY LOGS', for a few days now.
Does anyone know how to get past this? It looks like the log that contained the Logminer Dictionary was applied
    already.
Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide.

Make sure the archivelogs are reaching the standby. Check your alert logs on both databases to confirm there is no archival problem.

  • Buy Lightroom 4 or wait for 5?

I'm nearing the end of my 30-day trial of Lightroom 4. I'm essentially sold. I recently became aware that Lightroom 5 is coming out shortly, and downloaded it too. I'm reluctant to pay the full price for 4 (yes, I'm aware of the current $99 special) and then pay for an upgrade within a very short time. Will there be a free or cheap upgrade offered for recent purchasers? Should I just use the 5 beta and let my trial of 4 expire until 5 ships?

Since you are just getting started with Lightroom, I would suggest that you wait for the release of Lightroom 5. The beta has been working fine on my computer. There are a few little problems, but for the most part everything works just fine. If you decide to switch over to the beta version you won't be able to use the catalog that you have created with your trial version of Lightroom 4. The beta will not convert catalogs from previous versions. However, that will probably not be true of the official release. New releases have always converted catalogs from previous versions as well as from beta releases. So it would be necessary for you to convert your Lightroom 4 catalog as well as any catalog you created with the beta release, and then combine the two catalogs if you so desire.
We have been cautioned that any adjustments made using the beta version might not look exactly the same in the final release of Lightroom 5. If you are doing critical work that must look the way you have made the adjustments, it would not be wise to depend on those conversions in the final release. So the choice is yours. But if you want to save money it would probably be best to switch over to the Lightroom 5 beta and experiment with it. It does a good job, in my opinion.

  • Ok so I have an iPod touch 4 and I want to get an iPad but don't know if I should get the iPad 2 or wait for the new one. I am 14 years

    iPad 2

Well, it depends how long you can wait. We can't discuss rumors on here about release dates.
Look at what you actually need though and decide how soon you need something.
What you'll want to realize is that every year or two something new will come out.. so you have to learn to fight off the "I need the new one" bug if you want to be satisfied with your purchase.  At your age you probably won't get the opportunity to upgrade for a while, so you'll have to learn to live with your purchase decision longer.
If the iPad 2 in it's current state does everything you want, and you enjoy playing around on it a lot, I'd get it now and be happy.  If you feel like you want the newest of the new and are willing to wait (in line and for it to release) then you should wait for the next release.
The iPad 2s are finally becoming available after many months backlog, so keep in mind the next release will likely be the same way and think if you could really wait that long to get something.
Alternatively you could also consider getting a used iPad 1, then use that while waiting for the next version. The used one could then be resold for a fair amount once the new one comes out. Apple products tend to have a pretty good resale value, and the iPads are extraordinarily popular.

  • Have a T410 core i3, should I upgrade to T520 or wait for Ivy Bridge T530?

What should I do? My T410 is just over a year old and is still fast but I want an i7 for school and work and really need a high res 15" screen.  My T410 is nice and all but I'm starting to feel the lack of speed with my Core i3 first gen.
    Should I wait or not?

  • Buy MBP now or wait for Leopard release?

Hi All, long time Windows user here, getting ready to make the switch to Mac as my laptop is dying.
My question, not being familiar with how Apple updates its product line, if I buy a MBP (17") now, is Apple likely to release a new model with different hardware with Leopard, or in the very near future?
I've been watching all year, and know that the MBP's were just updated, which is why I'm finally ready to switch, I wanted a 512 meg video card, and 4 gigs of ram.
Also, I will have to run Windows, either in Boot Camp or Parallels, as I have some high end sewing and embroidery software that is Windows only. Would I be better off with Xp or Vista... and whichever, can I just buy an OEM copy for half the cost, since I'll only be using it on the new Mac?
    Thank you very much!
    CJ

Hi, Apple will certainly include Leopard on it's next Macbook Pro update. When that will happen only Apple knows for sure. Some talk around says maybe in August or October. I just bought a new Macbook Pro equipped with Safari of course and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I was aware that Leopard is coming but I simply did not want to wait. Besides I can always install Leopard at a later date if need be. Safari does everything I want it to do, so it was a no brainer for me.
Whether or not Apple will update its video card to 512mb remains to be seen.
Prior to buying this Macbook Pro I also used Windows XP and Vista Ultimate. Vista is a memory hog and runs slowly on computers even with 2 gb of ram which I had. I was not impressed with Vista. I much preferred XP.
I don't know what the legal implications are if you buy an OEM Windows disc and install it on another computer. Maybe someone who knows copyright law can chime in.

  • Why do I have to pay for a charge that I should not of been charged then wait for the credit in two to three billing cycles? If I don't pay it I get charged $5 a month late charge?

So I spent a considerable amount of time on the phone with Verizon about charges on my wireless bill. The conclusion of it was: Pay the charge and we will credit the charge or it will show as a balance due with a $5.00 late fee every month. I got two phones on a promotion in November. Part of the promotion was no activation fee. Got my first bill and a $70.00 activation fee was on it. On line chatted with Verizon and they said it would be credited in two to three billing cycles. I paid my bill minus the activation fee. This month I have a $5.00 late fee and a $35.00 restocking fee because they messed up and sent three phones and I returned one. It was not activated. They might credit me that money back. What is going on?????

I am so very sorry for any aggravation you've experienced getting your billing straightened out, Nunu1957. It's true that it can take 1 to 2 billing cycles for some account balance adjustments to appear on a statement. While I know you'd rather not have paid your activation fees, the terms of your agreement do require you to do so in order to avoid late fees or even involuntary service interruptions.
I am concerns about the restock fee. If the device was sent to you in error, you should not have been billed a restock fee. You stated that there may be a refund for the fee. Has that been confirmed?

  • Should clients of long-running processes wait for a response?

I am a bit confused by the worklist tutorial where the client waits around for
a response from the worklist process that blocks on human input. This may be okay
for the sample application, but is it a realistic scenario? Have you designed
any practical worklist processes this way? I would have thought that the client
of a worklist process would simply trigger the process and go away. Eventually
when the human involved in the process would take some action, the process would
then, for example, send a message to some application. What do you think? I would
be interested in your opinions and perhaps some real examples of how you are using
    worklists.
    Thanks.
P.S. Is it even possible for a worklist client to trigger the process and go away?
Would the process die because the client has gone out of scope?

I agree with your comments. In being honest as well, we unfortunately do have SRs that get behind or missed. It's very frustrating on our side as well when we have these come up. We have implemented a number of technologies and also human touch to help us catch these and continue to focus on ways to overcome these delays. I know it's frustrating for you as well.
Our customer satisfaction is very high and actually continues to increase each Qtr. Our data shows us our three key satisfaction areas are; speed of response, speed of resolution and followup.
Chat support helps us in response time, but sometimes may hinder us in resolution times. Especially with more complex issues. Our goals were not to totally replace the phones with chats, but to use chat to allow us to respond more quickly, which it has done. We're now focusing our folks to realize it's still ok to call you when the Chat is hindering resolution and it would be quicker to talk live about the issue.
We resolve over half of the SRs on the first day. We continue to focus on speeding up the resolution of those that go beyond the first day. A couple things we've implemented are we call you back at least every 2 days when the SR is in Novell's court and at least every 5 days when it's in your court. We've also implemented timed escalation for SRs and are now looking at also escalating when progress is not being made after a certain number of days (rather that just time open). The goal is to get you in the hands of the right person asap to speed up the resolution time.
We're also having Managers call you on more and more SRs before being closed to double check your satisfaction with the SR.
Our dream is to never have you need to ask us for attention on a SR. We continue to make progress on it.
I look forward to your thoughts and other ideas you may have to help us improve,

  • I want to buy this, but don't know if I should wait for new version..

    Hello,
I've been a RIM and a BlackBerry fan for about two and a half years now. Originally had a Pearl about two years ago and liked it a lot. I got the Torch 9800 last October (2010), and absolutely love it, and would rather have NO other phone--I still love the Torch and still use it now. And I am now considering getting a BlackBerry Playbook tablet.
It only seems though, that my luck is always that I buy something new and then soon after, a NEWER version is released, making my version obsolete. I am considering making a purchase of the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet here in a few weeks. Is there going to be any newer version of it released that I should wait for instead, or something? Just  trying to make sure I make the best decision in order to stay as up-to-date as I can.
    Thanks.
    -loyal RIM and BlackBerry fan,
    etccu

There's been no announcement of a new version coming out, except for a LTE mobile network version, which hasn't surfaced yet. Other than that , RIM hasn't made any plans public.

  • Should I buy an Imac now or wait for update late 2014

I'm thinking of getting an Imac 27" (i7 , 8ram, 3tb fusion drive and 780 gcard) "fully loaded"
Il be using it for FCX and some photoshop. Burning blu rays
Beginner editing, (home movies,) and plan on taking some classes in future and do bigger editing projects.
should I pull the trigger and buy this imac, or wait for the update in mid to late 2014???
Thanks ahead of time to anyone taking the time to responding :)

if you need a new one now, get one.  If you can wait, then wait.  No matter what, it will be soon "outdated" anyway.  Also, no one knows when a new mac will be released until apple say so.  anything else is speculation.
