Should I buy  MacBook Air?

Today I bought 4th generation Ipad. When looking for it I saw MacBook Air and I think it's awesome. Should I buy it or will it be unnecessary expenditure? I want to buy the model with 11.6", 2gb ram, i5, 1.60ghz, 64 gb, 256 mb graphics card. I just want to use mac so I want buy this one. What do you think?
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Buy. Get more RAM - 2 GB isn't really enough. Get larger SSD - at least 128 GBs.

  • Should I buy MacBook Air 11"

I'm in a market for a new notebook after my Windows-based laptop died recently. I like MacBook Air 11" 2GB/64GB but have a few questions:
    1. Can I connect it to a regular VGA monitor with an adaptor? If so, how is the image quality and the cost of the adaptor?
    2. I'd like to be able to boot to Windows. With its limited storage, can I place the Windows in an external USB HD and be able to boot to either system as needed? Can it use a HD formatted in NTFS (for windows)?
    3. How does the general performance on a graphics program such as Photoshop? Should I be concerned that it does not have a dedicated video card? I will use it mostly for web browsing (~80% of the time), minor web development, and image editing.
    4. What are the issues can you think of for a current Windows user (besides software compatibility)?
    Thanks,

    1) You'll need to buy a thunderbold dongle to connect your VGA monitor. It depends on where you buy - about $30 US. Image quality is very subjective and varies from display to display.
    2) There are two ways to run Windows - BootCamp requires installation on the internal drive. Virtualization (using Parallels Desktop or other software) can be installed on an external drive.
    3) The lack of a discrete video card has its greatest impact on 3D games. Photoshop and other graphics programs run fine on an Air. I was even surprised at how well my 2011 MBA runs Diablo 3.
    4) Superficially the Mac and Windows are very similar but the more savvy a Windows user is, ironically, the tougher the switch can be. Your workflow will be interrupted as you discover the Mac way of doing things which can be frustrating. Apple provides a set of webpages called Switch 101 which you should fine helpful.
I'd also strongly recommend that you consider upgrading to the 128 model unless your needs are very basic. The OS takes up about 8GB and you'll want to keep about 10GB free for temporary files and swap files. That leaves roughly 46GB free for software and data which isn't much these days.

You should contact an Apple retail store and ask if they can make a special order for you.

If all you need is Office then you dont need Windows 7 as there is already a version of Office which will run on a Mac. Its called Office 2011.
You can get it from the mac store or anywhere else that sells office

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Read the system requirements for the programs you listed. Match them against the specifications of the machine you propose to buy. The more RAM the better, your hard drive size requirements and video card specicications may require the upgraded, not base, model or may eliminate the MBA as a platform.

  • HT5622 I want to buy Macbook air 13" (13-inch :128GB) from Malaysia

I want to buy Macbook air 13" (13-inch :128GB) from Malaysia, it's price is mentioned as RM 3,299.00. Is there vat included or excluded? As a bangladeshi, what are the terms and conditions? Shall I need to pay any vat/tax during purchase except the price?

Check the Malaysian Apple store help pages (http://store.apple.com/my/help/payments) or call them directly (http://store.apple.com/my/help/contact).

  • I want to buy macbook air, could I customized it with 1TB flash memory?

I want to buy macbook air, could I customized it with 1TB flash memory?

No.  The maximum configuraiton for a MacBook Air is a 512 GB SSD: $1700 with 8 GB of RAM.  http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air?product=MD761LL/A&step=config
However, a Retina MacBook Pro is almost the same as a MacBook Air and can be configured with a 1 TB SSD: $2,300 with 8 GB of RAM.  https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5965798?tstart=0

  • I'm a student, should I buy MacBook?

Hey everyone, I'm a student and my needs are a good decent laptop that don't make alot of noise and should be very stable so my documents are safe.
Question: Should I buy MacBook (1.83GHz, 1GIG RAM, 80GB HD)?
Sorry, it's hard to read what is really going on because I see some people do have some problems. I'm kinda hoping that I will hear something nice and good about MacBook, because it does look good the laptop and Mac OS X itself and I'm very tired of old Windows (PC) so...

Hey there! I'm a university student and worked from about 20 till I was / am 25 years old with Windows PCs and Notebooks. I'm still using a desktop PC but as a mobile solution I bought a MacBook three months ago. It's super. The office applications work great (for me: Word and Powerpoint are most important for university) and I've also cut a movie for my sisters school class .
There is this 'fan problem' (which you'll find in discussions around here) but it's still silent enough for lectures and other kinds at school or university. But if you want to watch a DVD during class, the 'insert mechanism' is a little bit loud .
Of course as a 'new-mac-user' you have to get used to the OS but after a short period of time trying and working with it you'll love it!
It IS and looks good... I can totally recommend it!
    MacBook (2.0GHz, 1GB, 80GB)   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   MacBlack : )

  • Buying Macbook Air used

Situation: Buying Macbook Air used that was purchased in Nov 2012
I would like to purchase this macbook and add Applecare.
    1. What do I need from the seller? (receipts, etc...)
    2. What do I need to watch out for?

You need proof that the seller is the rightful owner. Check that the name on the receipt matches his photo ID, and the serial number matches the receipt.
You also need reasonable evidence that the machine is in working order. Inspect carefully for damage. Run the Apple Hardware Test (extended version.) Even if it passes, you're still taking a risk. It's still under warranty, but damage, such as liquid spills, won't be covered.

  • Should i take Macbook air 13' with 128GB and upgrade to 8Gb or just take Macbook ait 13' with 256 GB?

I'm a graphic student in university. Now i don't know i should pick Macbook air 13' with 128GB and upgrade to 8Gb or just take Macbook ait 13' with 256 GB?
I worry  Macbook air 13' with 128GB can't support fully to install those graphic software like photoshop, lightroom, illustration , Adobe and so on..
    Thank you.

If I had to choose just one thing I’d go with 8GB RAM. There’s no way to upgrade memory later so if you buy the stock 4GB RAM model and need more RAM later your only choice is to buy a new computer. Even if you find the 128GB SSD too small later you have alternatives including moving less important files to an external hard drive (music, old projects, and video are good examples). You can also purchase a SD RAM card for the SD slot to store additional files on - I have a flush mount 128GB SD card in mine which is where I store my music and older files. And while it will be expensive you can be fairly certain that eventually an upgrade SSD will become available.
If possible I’d recommend both the 8GB RAM upgrade and the 256GB SSD but as I said, the RAM upgrade really is a must. BTW, I have a huge amount of software on my computer: Creative Suite, Office, and tons more and have no trouble keeping it all within 128GB. What did push me over to make the larger drive a must have is that I also need to run Windows so I have 45GB tied up in Windows and Windows software. (I’m a programming instructor and need to test my assignments for Win and Mac users.)
