Should I buy now or wait?

I've been researching and trying to figure out whether to purchase an Iphone now or wait until they introduce the 3G connection and few other upgrades. I'm still little new to the iphones, but i've read a lot of information and possibly a 2nd generation iphone coming out in 2008.
Any advice? Go ahead and purchase now or wait?

if it does what you want/need it to do now, buy it now. If there's a specific feature that you can't live without (such as media messages), and the iPhone doesn't have it, wait. The thing about technology is that it's constantly changing. If you wait until it's "perfect" you'll never buy, because something new will always be coming along in the future. The next one might be out in a couple of months, or it might not be out until next year... during that time, you could be enjoying the current version rather than waiting for the "new one"

  • Should I buy now or wait for iMac upgrade?

After the recent iMac price reduction, should I buy now or wait until the end of the year for a potential upgrade? Does anybody think there will be much of an upgrade? Retina Display?
I am looking at getting an upgraded 27" with i7, 16GB and 3TB Fusion.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

General advice is if you don't need to buy then don't buy.  There is always something newer coming out in the next 12 months.  That said, also consider what you have now.  Sometimes newer models cut off older software or hardware and buying a new model may mean you have to buy all new software or some mission critical piece of hardware.  In a science lab where I worked they had old equipment for which there were no software upgrades for that model.  Buying too new a computer would have meant spending half a million dollars on related hardware upgrades dictated by the backward compatible software limitations of that $1500 computer.  They held off buying a new computer until they could afford new machinery.

  • Should I buy now or wait for Windows 7 that is installed at the factory

I'd like to buy the Acer 1410, should I wait until it's being shipped with Windows 7?
Yes, the  free upgrade to Windows 7 is nice, but I'm concerned about all the drivers....WIFI, video, camera, etc. etc...  I'm also concerned about the how the Vista turned battery management will interact with WIndows  7?  Seems that would be the toughest thing to fix?
Is anyone running Window7 RC on a 1410?  If so, how are things going ?
I called Acer support and of course they thought now was a great time to buy one.  The rep. stated if I have issues after the upgrade, they would help get it working...LOL
If not, I could send it to Texas for repair!!  Really....
I'm surprised more people haven't posted their experiences with the 1410 on the net..  It apppears to be a great, little computer.
I was also considering the Gateway LT3103U, but it is not eligible for the Windows 7 free upgrade and has less memory, etc..  Maybe someone change my mind on that one ? I wasn't very impressed with the Gateway support site, compared to Acer's.  (Gee, aren't they the same company, go figure ! )
I wonder if Bestt Buy will offer the Acer 1410 ?????  Looks like a hit to me!

When it comes to specific sales questions, I don't know about model releases.
When it comes to waiting to purchasing a computer now with Vista, I say Yes... only if it qualifies for the Windows 7 upgrade for free (minus S&H). I've heard good things about the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.
I use Windows 7 RC1 and I love it. I used it on my primary computer which is a Sony Laptop.

  • IOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?

iOS6 and iphoto, iPad, Apple TV sync problem still unresolved. Turning on and off a few times per community advice have not helped. What should I do now? wait for an upgrade fix?
"&" is not the obvious bug/answer. Not sure what went wrong as I cannot select albums and events for sync. Situation is worse for iPad and Apple TV when error 1140 message popped up even before backup get completed.

Download and install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update, which was just released today. It may be the answer to your problems:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1598
Be sure that neither iTunes nor iPhoto is running when you install the iPhoto 9.4.1 update. After installing the update, then restart iTunes and iPhoto. By default, "All photos" is selected. Change this (it's no longer grayed out) to "Selected albums..." and you should be OK.

  • Mac book air '13. Should I buy now?

Should I buy a 2013 macbook air now?  Heard many complaints about Wi-Fi connection drop out problems.  Thanks, Alan

I bought one and am using it right now.  I'm delighted with it.
What good could waiting possibly do?  For those few people who may be having issues, either they will be minimized by future software updates (which you will also receive if you purchase your machine now), or the issues are severe enough they can return or replace their machines.

  • Should I purchase now - OR - wait?

Should I buy Quicktime 7 Pro now, or should I wait? In other words, do you think there is an update coming soon (Quicktime 8)? Will Quicktime 7 Pro still work once 8 comes out?

NO WAY MAN! I know this is real - but i am very annoyed with apple over this - i didnt buy quicktime 6 pro - i brought quicktime pro...
    to quote the store history...?
    Product
QuickTime Pro Mac Single Access Key ESD
Now, IMHO - I should hvae qicktime pro working and the software update shouldnt disable it just because of a version change - now if i brought quicktime 6 pro - i might feel somewhat different about it (but probably not) as far as i am concerned apple SHOULD be giving me quicktime 7 - and for that reason i havent purcahsed quicktime pro since it updated to 7 and became disabled - the ONLY feature of 6 that i REALLY MISS on my on personal laptop is to view in full screen - i have pro on my work computer and all the other features i use on that one... if they go change the serial number - they should advise customers that there is a new one for them... afterall - im a customer...

  • Buy Now vs Wait Longer...

So, I really want to get a shiny new MacBook Pro, but I'm torn between doing the possibly "smarter" thing and waiting a few more weeks/months, or buying it now and hoping that the issues only affect a minority of users.
At the moment, I'm thinking if I wait at least a few more weeks, there will be a greater chance that I'll get a week 12+ MBP that doesn't have any whining issues. Plus, it'll be past Apple's anniversary, and hopefully past any "New: 5GHz MacBook Pro w/ 4gb RAM!!" announcements But are there other issues still remaining?
I'm worried about the whining, but I'm thinking maybe it only affects a minority of users. I'm also worried about people complaining that their screen doesn't close flat, that the MBP doesn't wake up from sleep (is this a universal problem for all MBPs?), heat issues, broken fans, and that weird speaker vibration that was reported early on but that I haven't seen mentioned for a while (did it go away?).
Any feedback about experiences with these issues would be appreciated Have they gone away, and are there ANY people out there who have a PERFECT MBP (screen closes ok, wakes up fine, no whining, speakers work, runs at a normal temperature, fans work, etc...)? Thanks all.
    Mac mini 1.42GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I have an almost perfect MBP. By almost I mean that you always want more and better and more powerful. Although I am new to Macs my friends have told me that MBPs are somewhat more problematic than we are used to. Many people on this forum have said that by reading this discussion site you are not going to be encouraged, because only or mostly people that are experiencing difficulties visit this site. I can==t give you the link, but I read (I think it was in a post written around 24th, 25th or 26th march) that the whinning that most people were concerned about was a motherboard problem and that it is fixed now. I am not sure about this, but it could encourage you. So far it is a matter of chance. The longer you wait the smaller the chance (or it should be). However there will always be that chance and some people have a problem with issues others don't have problem with e.g. the post about battery life. Mine is at its peak at around 5200 mAh. My colleague from work told me to call apple to replace the battery. I don't see a problem with that even though some might have a higher capacity and paid same bucks.

  • Mac Mini: buy now or wait for the Speed Bump?

    Hi guys
I wanted to ask you something. First of all, would you buy a Mac Mini now o would you wait for a little hardware upgrade? It'd be my first Mini (I already have an iMac) and it would exclusively used as a Media Center, connected to a Sharp HD 37" (not Full HD though).
I was wondering if the graphic card of the Mini could support mkv files (the HD compressed with the mkv algorithm) because they have a high bitrate and the graphic card is quite weak (IMHO).
I just wanted to know what you think, I hope you can advise me.
    Thank you for your attention.

Thank you guys for your answer.
I think that I'll wait for a little hw upgrade. I know that with Apple nothing is sure but I wanna buy a Mac Mini just to use it as a media center so I have to be sure that it'll work fine playing mkv files. Also I've promised my father that he'll be able to see as many HD films as he wants so I want to wait. Also because he's just bought me an iMac so you can understand I must be 100% sure.
If someone else can give me further information about mkv files please tell me.
    Thank you all.

  • Buying now or wait???

I am going to get an iPhone, but didn't know if I should wait until the 3G comes out in month or so (based on what is said online).
I have also heard that the current iPhones can not be "updated" to 3G when it comes out. Anyone know if that is true, or just rumors.
    THANKS! Happy Memorial Weekend!

    hello,
I am also facing this dilemna. I want to purchase an iPhone and a MacBook Pro but I have heard that their will be major changes to both in June. I would like to know if this is true and whether or not it is worth a wait until the end of June. I have asked Apple corp. personnel who have never answered me. I have been a loyal and happy Mac user since the early nineties and feel that I should be able to find this out. I am now even thinking "blackberry" and other dark thoughts! Does anyone know the answer to this?

  • Buy now or wait?

About to order 2 more iphones for family members (I love mine)but heard a rumor that apple may be launching a new version end of feb after the show so I shoudl wait..any truth to that?

No, that isn't right. If we have a new model, it won't be for another 6 months at least. What you've heard is that SDK is coming out in late Feb, which will make it possible for 3rd party developers to add more apps to the iPhone.

  • When should I buy?

I am thinking about buying a new 13" Macbook Pro this summer. However, I leave to study abroad in August and don't want to bring my new computer abroad (so I won't even be using it from August to December). I'm wondering if I should wait to buy a new computer when I get back in December. I either buy one now, get to use my fun, new computer for 2 months, and get a free iPod touch with the student deal, OR I buy in December, and maybe by then there will be new updates to the Macbook Pro. Should I buy now or wait? Getting it now + free iPod vs. waiting and possibly buying a better/faster computer?

On this discussion board it is against the rules to speculate on when Apple will replace products. There are other sites that will speculate about that - macrumors does that.
It depends what is important to you. How badly do you want to get the free iTouch, and how important is it to you to wait for the next newer model, and how important it is to you to keep your old computer for your study abroad trip? Ultimately, what is most important to you?
There is also insurance available to purchase (Safeware), which might protect you from the laptop being stolen (you would have to check with the different ones and what they have to offer).
Oh well, those are just some things for you to consider in your decision making process.

  • Core 1 vs. Core 2 Duo; Buy now MBP 17" or wait?

Following a fresh Mac Rumor, see Intel announcement, the claim is that Core 2 Duo is on its way. They say the enhanced chips are expected to hit the market as early as July/August. As far as I am concerned, this vital piece of info has arrived just minutes before actually ordering the latest 17" MBP. Naturally, I got cold fit, and have to pose the immortal question: To buy now or wait a little?
    Rμν - ½gμνR = 8πGTμν

I did a little investigating and here is an excerp that I pulled from an article at the register.com
The mobile Merom chips will ship as the 5000 and 7000 series. Again, the lesser numerical range represents single-core parts, and the chips will be prefixed with U, L or T, depending on their power consumption: T for 25-49W, L for 15-24W and U for under 14W. Typically, U-class chips as Ultra-low Voltage parts, while the Ls are Low-voltage chips.
So the main stream chips will be 25-49w I have no idea what clocks will be what watts. 25 watts would be pretty great if that is a decent clock speed. I would think the 49 watts would be a pretty tough match for the macbooks.
I also believe I heard the initial merom chips will be 65nm, but soon to be followd by 45nm. IF this is the case, I am sure Apple would wait for the 45nm and it could also explain the huge wattage range 25-49 as maybe this figure covers both 65 and 45nm. Again these are just my thoughts. Please no one base their purchase on this.
I will say that I personally will be picking up a 17" macbook as I think the wait for merom will be longer than we think. Heck look at how long it has taken them just to get this one out. These processors have been out for 4 months!! And they are just now shipping the 17"

  • Buy now or what for later

Hello. I am in the market for a new computer and I think I have decided that the Apple iBook is the computer for me. I am a student and would really only use it for AppleWorks, iTunes, as well as surfing the internet. I have never used a mac before so I was wondering if now would be a good time to switch over. I have be reading about the new Intel Duo Core chips that have been replacing older models of some of the macs, and I do not want to by an iBook now and in a month a newer version comes out. So my question you guys is whether I should switch over now or wait?

Chances are there will be intel chips in iBook's VERY SOON. I'm in a simalar situation as yourself, I need a new computer and am torn between getting an iMac now or waiting a month or two and getting an intel iBook (if they're released).
Another point is were not allowed to speculate on upcoming Apple products or their possible specifications on these forums. The post will just get locked.
My advice to you is simple IF you need a computer now buy the iBook - you wont be dissapointed and the current iBook will take care of all your needs beautifully.
However if you WANT the latest and greatest technology then you'll have to wait and it will pay off if you plan to use your computer for any web design, graphics, music or video creative work on it. Although as a general point the current iBook can easily handle light Dreamweaver, Photoshop CS and iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand work as thats what I use mine for.
Hope this makes the descision slightly easier for you...
    - Joe.

  • When should i buy a iMac?

I have been wating for a while to buy a iMac. Some sources say it will come out sept. 12, others say october, or even early 2013. i really need one now but should i buy now though? i mean what happens when i buy one now but then the new one comes out in october?

Don't buy anything from Best Buy.
But what about the new model being so close, i just dont want to regret the buy.
No one knows about any new models. Significant upgrade cycles for Macs has historically been on the order of every year or so. There is no guarantee that will continue though.
"so close" is not significant for a computer that will serve you well for several years.
If you decide to buy from Apple they have a 14 day, no questions asked return policy. Should you buy a new Mac and another one comes out during that short period, you can return it for a full refund and buy the latest.
There's nothing wrong with using your existing computer. Replace it when it no longer does what you need it to do. If that happens to be now, you have your answer.

  • Purchase now or wait?

    I am going to be ordering a 2.66 or 3.0 MacPro with a 23" and 2 20" or 2 23".
Should I order now, or wait until after WWDC? I will only be getting one 23" monitor initially.

It has taken me until now to "fully" get my nine month Mac Pro upgraded, optimized, and configured with more drives, memory, backup routine, workflow, and getting to know it fully. - Not that I didn't get a lot of use out of it day #1 :-))
Adding monitor, a couple PCI cards, one thing at a time before adding something else (and a couple months watching and troubleshooting new memory and issues went in also).
Having a couple months really helps and makes sense.
I was slightly concerned getting Mac Pro so early, being new and all. But it has proven to be trouble-free luckily, and while there have apparently been "errata" improvements and fixes, nothing huge. Once in awhile I'll go back and (try) to use my old system. But it is so loud, and now seems sluggish and slow and unable to work smoothly that it just confirms the Mac Pro was the right decision, even as it was less than a month after they were first available.
