Should I buy the imac with expandable memory slot for future os upgrade size?

Should I buy the imac with expandable 8gb memory slot for future os upgrade size?

I Always try to have a little more RAM on my computers that I think I'll need when I purchase them. Either have more ram installed when you order the iMac or purchase one with open slots for upgrading.
I Purchase my iMac 5K with only 8 GB RAM but it had two open slots. As soon as I received the iMac I purchased two 8 GB modules form Other World Computeing. That brought my RAM to 24 GB. I run multiple applications and the iMac runs smoothly.

  • Should I buy the iPhone 4S or to wait for the coming model?

I am the owner of a iPhone 4 and I'm thinking to buy the 4S but I don't know what to do... Should I wait for the coming model? I see it's not that different than the iPhone 4.
    Thanks guys!

There are some major differences between the 4 and th 4S. The 4S has a faster processor, better camera, Siri, speech-to-text. Whether any of those things are important to you is something only you can determine. If you are happy with your current phone and none of those things matter to you, you should wait. Personally, I found the features of the 4S made it well worth the upgrade from the 4 for me.

  • Should I buy AppleCare Protection with Ipad2 in US, for overseas usage?

    Hey guys,
I'm planning the buy the Ipad 2 in the US for my usage in Singapore.
I was advised to get the AppleCare Protection together with the Ipad.
Thing is, would the protection plan still be valid in Singapore even though I bought it in the US?
    THANKS!

Do you really need it? I cant say any of my apple stuff ever goes wrong and ive called the telephone support once. Also, do you plan on keeping it for more than a year? Most apple folk tend to get a new decice every year, right around the time their warranty expires?
Its an extended warranty. You can buy the apple care at any time while your device is still under its original 1 year warranty. So if you wait until the end of your year and decide if your going to keep the device, then buy the care, if not then youve saved yourself some cash.
Have a read of their FAQ's. Its global coverage where it will be fixed by a local apple authorized dealer (if there is one). If not you post it off to apple in the US.

  • Should i buy the iphone with an At&t contract

Hey guys, I just wanted to know if I should sign an At&t contract when i buy an iPhone from a local apple store. can I buy it without signing one? and if I got it from apple online store, should I also sign an At&t contract.
Please tell me the best way to get an iPhone without signing an At&t contract.
    thnx guys

You can get around not signing a contract with at&t however if you do so then you will not be able to use visual voice mail "big loss". however if you do unlock iphone using a hack off of the Internet it voids your warranty and i think it might be illegal in some states but don't know cus i from the UK. However without signing with at&t there is no warranty and if your iphone breaks as quite a few have, e.g. the screen no longer responding or whatever you will have to shell out all that $399 again so it is your choice but personally i would just sign the contract.
    Hope this helps.

  • Should I buy the MacBookPro Retina display or wait for the update to come out?

    PLEASE HELP ME!

you realize - I tried to gently show - that this is a forum for workstation users, so you know that, right?
And I would not expect any real change until Intel comes out with the second phase of their cycle with Ivy Bridge mobile processor family in 2013-2014 - and it is more complex and costly - but Intel basically sets the stage for what new hardware will be available to OEM vendors - atleast those using Intel processor and logicboard.
Our two year old Mac Pro towers still hold up well even though they have fallen behind in SATA performance, support is there but not a newer Apple graphic card, and no Sandy Bridge or Ivy processor - or USB3 and Thunderbolt. But then they hold up well in performance and from breaking down and good investment llkely to last longer than most laptops and parts.
But everyone is clamoring for a new 2013 Mac Pro tower.
So it really was, for me, confusing just what update you could mean when a rMBP just came out, iMac are overdue, and Mac Pro is already waiting for a real major update but not until 2013 sometime, when Intel and everyone is ready - and likely to see some new high end graphic card offerings.
You should add a tower to your laptop then, start saving, would make a nice add-on to have - and starts are around $2K.

  • Should I buy the MBP retina now or wait for the new one?

    Hey
I wanna buy a new MBP retina 15" before my uni starts in fall so after like a month and a half. I already have a 2011 MBP but wanna get a new and better one so I am just wondering what is the latest 15" retina by Apple? and when is the approximate date for the release of new retinas? like I mean if Apple has a date for new releases like it has for iPhone and iPad usually like to know if it worth waiting or not
    Thanks

I haven't heard anything as far as a new retina models. I just upgraded from a 13" mid 2012 non-retina pro to a 13" late 2013 retina pro. Either way I don't think there will be any major improvements to their retina pros if they do release a new one in the fall. I would say go ahead and get your retina now. Also Apple has a reuse and recycle program along with a student discount. You can take your old mac in and possibly get a store credit towards a new one but I doubt you'll get a huge discount. For my last MacBook, I would only have gotten about $350. But make sure you get what you need in it when you buy it because you can't upgrade the parts.

  • With the new ipad coming out soon, why should I buy the ipad 2?

with the new ipad coming out soon, why should I buy the ipad 2?

I can only echo what Pogo says about buying based on what it does today.
3 weeks ago I bought a Mac Mini. A new Mac Mini model has been rumoured to come out anywhere between the same week I made my purchase and the end of August. None's been released as yet.
I wanted one in the week of June that I bought mine so I bought it based on the fact that it did what I wanted and I couldn't imagine anything which could be added that I'd want - my MacBook Pro doesn't have Thunderbolt so the most likely addition isn't really going to be much use for me.
Basically you have to buy what you what based on what's out at the the time.
I can promise that within seconds of the iPad3 being released, the web will be full of rumours about the next one!

Thanks, I was thinking so. I installed my CS4 from a CD in 2008, and it looks like Adobe has taken another approach to selling their products. I'll be downloading CC Photoshop a little later today.

  • About to Buy The iMac (Stop Me?)

I am about to buy the iMac, possibly today. I was wondering a couple of things.
-Should I wait for 10.5 to come pre-installed on them?
-How are they, work wise, look wise, function wise (for the owners)?

*Hi CA..., Welcome* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
*Francine Schweider* a |||| bar poster in these forums has what I think is an excellent thought.
"I plan to buy my next computer before Leopard comes out. Why? Because generally new Mac computers will not run any system older than the one they ship with, I want to be able to use the fully mature Tiger system, rather than having to rely entirely on Leopard. Who knows whether the software I own will be fully compatible with Leopard? Or how long it will take for developers (think Adobe) to update if there are incompatibilities with Leopard. Or even just how stable and reliable and all like that Leopard will be.

    Enjoy your new Mac, JP

I have been considering buying Aperture 3 but the numerous, negative reviews are making me wary.  Should I buy the first version - Aperture 2.1.1 instead?
I have a 2009 MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard.  I do not think I will upgrade to Lion because I was warned that it may conflict with some of my applications.
There have been so many reviews that talk about how Aperture 3 is so slow and spends too much time searching for Faces and eventually crashes.  And, many reviews mention that you need to add to your RAM which I can't do right now, especially on a 3 year old computer.
There are some copies Aperture 2 on Amazon.  Would that be a good place to buy a copy or a used copy?
I would appreciate some good advice.  Thanks, Taf Schaefer

Obviously you haven't read the reviews of Aperture 2
FWIW I use Ap3 on both a 2010 MBP (8 gigs of Ram) and an 2008 iMac (4 gigs) and I have no crashing issues whatever. Remember, you can disable Faces if you don't want to use that feature.

I used to use iPhoto and I will probably revert to that (although it has fewer function like no RAW import etc.)
Just an FYI: iPhoto supports exactly the same Raws as Aperture.

Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD. Some have it on the Disc #2.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

Depends on how you want to use it. Flash storage on the newer macbook and macbook air are built in. A macbook air is the most light weight and a very good machine. It will do all you want it to do unless you are running some very intensive programs. If you go to the apple store on line you can compare  the different macbook pro" and macbook Air's.

  • Should I buy the new MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro

Should I buy the new MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro?

it really depends what you are going to be doing, if you are going to be video editing and doing intensive stuff the Macbook Pro.
if you are going to be just browsing the web and doing lite video editing and not that intensive stuff than you should go with the Macbook Air.
Also if you want a cheaper computer than you should get the Macbook Air.  By cheap, I mean less expensive.
