Should I buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch Playe

I am trying to decide whether to buy the Zen Micro or the Zen Touch. They are roughly the same price. I do not think I need 20GB, but I hate to constrain myself.
On the other hand, the Zen Micro appears to offer a few extra features like FM radio, replaceable battery, voice recording and advanced song handling (DJ, for example). The Zen Touch seems to have just the most basic functions.
So what do I do, get a gigantic player with minimal functionality (less than an iPod or Nomad) or a smaller player with more functionality (I am unlikely to use voice and FM recording, and use the FM radio minimally)?
It just seems like the overall Micro firmware is more robust than the Touch firmware, but I'm not sure the tradeoff is worth it.
What are your thoughts?

I have a Zen Touch. I do not have an enormous music collection, but have maybe 50 or 60 albums on the player. This is something like 6 or 7 GB. It is WAY too much for me (even this much music). I do not need even that many songs on it at once. With support via WMP0 to synchronize, you could just synch up your favorites every time, switch them around, eventually synch up Napter 2 Go stuff and still have a ton on a 5 GB player. Features on the Micro that sound flashy but I would NEVER use are the calendar, contact thing. I have this on my phone, too, and don't use it. I have a PDA--I DO use that. An MP3 player is a pitiful substitute for a PDA (and a PDA is a lousy MP3 player). I would use the Audible Audio support in the Micro. Touch does not have this. I am a huge Audible fan. I had seriously looked at a Rio Carbon, but now that the Micro is out, that would be the player I would buy if I had it to do over again. They do need to develope a way to charge your extra battery for the Micro. The ability to swap batteries is pretty stupid the way it is now--you can only charge it in the player. They need a charger for the spare. Just my opinion, but I think some people get carried away with hard dri've potential. I can't forsee EVER wanting to carry that much music around with me, especially when it will be so easy to change what is on the player once full support for WMP0 comes out. I am just not away from my home computer library for that length of time that I would want to carry most of it around with me. I vote for the Micro.

• Zen Micro: Is the gap between tracks nor

I bought a Zen Micro mainly because I was told that it does not insert a gap between tracks. The trouble is that mine does insert a tiny, but incredibly annoying, blip between tracks.
I would really appreciate if another Zen Micro owner could tell me if this gap is normal or there is something wrong with my unit. I have tried 3 different levels of firmware, various formats and bit rates, but each time media player plays tracks seamlessly, but the Zen Micro inserts the gap.
Thanks in advance,
Ian

There is a somewhat technical reason as to why mp3 files cannot play seamlessly. Its because each part of the mp3 is split up into frames. You can only have frames, you can't have half frames or /4 frames. So I guess when a song ends, the little gap is the rest of the frame filling in space so it can be read properly. There is only one player that I know of that can actually skip the blank part of the frame and play gaplessly, I think its one of the Rio players but I can't remember to be honest
If I'm completely wrong in my explanation, someone please correct me

• Use a Zen Micro without the batt

hello, i would like to know if there is any way to use a zen micro without the battery inserted via usb cable, because i have a 6gb micro that i don't use, the battery died, and i would like to connect it to my amplifier, but all the micros i have came without the power adapter, wich would work. My computer's motherboard suplies power trhough usb even when the pc is off, so i woudn't even had to turn it on to hear music, but, unfortunely, micro's don't work without battery when plugged to the usb cord, right?. i like to know if i can tweak something in the micro to do this...please help me...

It remembers as long as it has power. This kind of thing has been discussed before, but not in this situation, but it's still the same....
If you unplug your Micro before it's gone into it's deep sleep slumber mode, then it will forget, and start back from it's LAST deep sleep mode. However, if you let it go into the deep sleep mode, then you can unplug it, and put your battery into it, and it will be at the same point it was when you just turned it off.
(by the way, not to thread jack, but this is my 50st post. Wow).

Have tried to download drivers and software for Zen Micro. When I try to run it though, it does not install because it says that I do not have device connected. Have erased everything off of Zen Micro, but have not reformatted. When I attach Zen Micro to PC, Zen Micro displays "booted" & PC displays "Zen Micro" for a second or two, then switches to "MTP Device"?. Do I need to erase everything from the Zen Nano Plus first?2. What do you think my next step should be?Thx???

• Question regarding transfering tracks from current Zen Micro to new Zen V Pl

Thank You in advance to anyone who can assist me.
I just ordered a new Zen V Plus and will want to get all my tracks on it when it arri'ves. My current player is a Zen Micro 5GB and I've loved it but as of late have been having problems with one of the touch pad buttons and, of course, it's out of warrenty. I just found the Zen V Plus 4GB on sale for $59.99 which I feel is a great price point so I bought one. So regarding the issue of getting my music from the Micro to the V Plus, is there a way to transfer from one to the other or would I have to somehow transfer onto my PC then to the V Plus?
Second question I just thought of, Can I use a memory stick(USB Flash Dri've) to back-up my tracks?
Thanks again,
Mark in San Diego

Hi,
You could transfer the music content of your Zen Micro to your Zen V Plus without transferring it to the PC first. Do the following steps:
. Connect one player at a time in your PC (XP O/S) and make sure that both of the player is detected.
2. If Windows have detected it, click on the option Open to View Files.
3. Open up the Music folder of both players.
4. From there, copy and paste whatever music tracks you would like to transfer from Zen Micro to Zen V Plus.
It's a good idea to have a back up of all your data and you could use a USB Flash dri've to store it all.
Hope this hel
ps.

• Headphone Socket Problem - on Zen Micro Photo (not Zen Mic

Hi folks,I'm having a wee problem with the headphone socket on my Zen MicroPhoto, similar to that described in this threadhttp://forums.creative.com/showthrea...=654536#M40796 However, this was for the Zen Micro not the Photo. I've tried the DIY method of sorting out the headphone socket (by partial disassembly) but I think that there's no plastic strip where the socket, on/off switch and USB port are housed and that it's part of the main casing instead (which is probably part of the reason the MicroPhoto hasn't has as many problems with the headphone socket in the first place, as in it's a more sturdy structure...but it's obviously come loose for me). So...any hints as to what I might be able to do Anyone had the same problem Bearing in mind I bought it over a year ago now and it was second hand anyway (and thus the warranty is no longer valid). Thanks! RL

In this forum you'll find a lot of threads about connecting problems. Use search function. There are already some solutions or proposals how to solve.

• Zen Micro Media Explorer - Zen Micro not showing

When I start the Zen Micro Media Explorer, all of the options are blurred out and it says "The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer." But I have it in my USB port, and all the other programs see it....just not the Zen Micro Media Explorer.
What is wrong?

Make sure you have the latest version, called Creative Zen Micro Media Explorer Web Update on the download page, click the link Support > Downloads on this page.

• Creative zen micro in the c

is there anyway i can hook my zen micro up in the car so it plays through my speakers and radio deck? . i see they have a belkin zen thing, but is that just a holder for it for going in your cup holder? if i cant listen to my zen in the car im tossing it and getting an ipod, i have enough problems with the welding on the head phone jack... .

If you've got a cassette player in your car, you can play your micro thru that (I do it all the time) using a cassette adaptor you can get for around $20 from practically anywhere. If not, seems like you'd have to go the FM transmitter route which will cost you more (see link). If your car has a single jack port (like the one used to connect your headphones to your micro), it should work with more than just an Ipod. My friend uses his for a non-pod product---you'd just need the little cable to go from your micro to your car's jack. http://us.creative.com/products/prod...57&product=427

• Play mp3s directly from Zen Micro on the

Hello everybody,
i just bought me a subnotebook with a small harddri've. So installed the Zen Micro software and my idea was that i simply hook the player up with USB and play the mp3s on the PC directly from the Player. So i don't have to copy them on my notebook harddisk.
Well, that was the idea, but when i hook the player up on USB, everything is ok and i see the player in the MediaSource Organizer. But when I click on my player and want to play a song it's played on my Zen Micro and not on my PC.
How can I fix this?
Would be very pleased if somebody can help me.
Greetings from Germany
dr.dentz

Great ...
Is there no workaround or can I use a other tool or chance someting in the registry? My notebook only supports USB and i don't want to buy a USB2.0 PCMCIA card.
edit:
Idea: Is it possible to buy a USB 2.0 Hub and connect it to my USB port? Well the connection speed would be the slower one, but maybe i could trick the player and software. Or will the software or player notice it that in the USB"chain" is one apparat with supports only USBMessage Edited by drdentz on 0-8-2006 03:6 PM

• Can you charge a drained Zen Micro using the USB of the compu

This what happend.. my Zen Micro got drained.. so i decided to charge via USB of my computer.. but it wasnt charging? what may be the problem?

yep.. thats my current version of firmware.. yeah, the first time i charged with a USB.. it didnt charge because i forgot to slide it to lock mode... when i tried sliding it to lock mode, it was charging.. but this happened when i charged the battery was not yet drained..
So, the other day i forgot to charge it, i just noticed it was drained already.. so i decided to charge it via USB of my pc.. i slide it to lock mode, but nothing happened.. it wasnt charging... thats why i had this question that if your player is drained already, you cannot charge it via USB.. it should be via the power outlet... can this be true?

• Charging and playing Zen Micro at the same t

Can I listen to my Zen Micro while I am charging my battery? Are there any pros and cons if I do this?

Clay30,
You can, but you will find that is takes longer to charge that way. I suggest avoiding this on the first 3 charges but past there it should be completely safe to do this.

• Do the new Zen Micros have the battery probl

I was going to buy a zen micro and I was wondering if that problem was fixed on the newer models/newer lines?

Well if you wait a few days/weeks/months then the battery issue will be fixed with a firmware update that Creative will release.
