Should I Change from PSE 6 to Lightroom?

INTEL 4 core, WinXP Pro, 2GB RAM, dual monitors (nVidia video), NAS, External drives, CS3
I have PSE 6 which has some real limitations and am willing to move to Lightroom but I wonder if it will really address the problems I am facing.
Dual monitor support?
Multiple core processor support?
Support for CR2 RAW, JPG, TIF, BMP, HTML, PDF, AVI
How does LR handle backups? Images?
Does LR's folder/file structure corrupt so that image files actually in a folder (per OS) are reported elsewhere?
Can a person map a network drive as a local drive and read/write?
Is there anything like the PSE timeline?
What observations would former PSE users have? Thanks

Just to start, I picked some of your questions.

Lightroom does backup its catalogue, but the choice is left to you. Since the catalogue is the core of your work with Lightroom (its links to your photos, your adjustments...), it does allow you to backup your catalogue each time that your start Lightroom. But you must set that up in Lightroom and obviously your catalogue backups go to a different disc from your catalogue;

Yes is the simple answer. Once you have imported files into your Lightroom catalogue, Lightroom will remember their location. If you move them outside of Lightroom, it will flag your folder or missing photo. (I would not use the word "corrupt" though to describe Lighroom's ability to track changes to folders/files that you make outside of Lightroom; better to say that Lr does flag changes.)

Yes for photos but not for catalgoue. See this post for the reason why you cannot have shared catalogues:

You can filter your photos based on date. It is not in any way visually similar to PSE's timeline, but it does allow you to browse your photos by date.

I think I will answer a question with a different question ... what is it that you want to do now that you can't do in PSE? What parts of PSE are you unhappy with?
Because really the answer to your question is that it is beneficial to some people, and a waste of money for others, and I don't know which category you are in without a lot more information from you on how you use the sofware and what new/additional features you are looking for.
As an alternative, you can download 30-day free trials of Lightroom and Photoshop and see if you like these programs, instead of relying on my judgment. If you are going to do this, please view some tutorial videos on Lightroom, do not skip this step.

Not correct at all - please see my previous response to a similar post.
Although you may want to check my work - I don't know a thing about iPhoto - I'm assuming the iPhoto directory structure is also a disk directory structure, like Aperture can be - is that correct? Or is it a figment of iPhoto's imagination, so to speak - if so, disregard everything I said in this post and the other one too.

Photobook files changed from .pse to .psd

I have successfully made several photo books using PSE7 and printing with Kodak. I was searching for the most recent photo book and found that it is in a folder as a .psd file and not a .pse file. As a result I can only view one page at a time as an image rather than a photo book. I wanted to update the photo book with some additional information. I have all the pages in the folder but have not been successful in attempting to get it back into a .pse file.
I have been doing some folder cleanup with PSE7 ( constantly checking to insure that images are still properly connecte) to organize the My Pictures file a little better and also just recently converted to Windows 7. I don’t know if this has anything to do with my problem or not. I did check my back up external drive and thee files in question are also .psd not .pse.
Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this?

I have not setup or initiated iCloud, at least not directly. How would I know if iTunes is trying to look for files from iCloud? Also, isn't iCloud only for purchased items unless you subcribe to iTunes Match which I have not.
I just tried searching for one of the problem songs in Spotlight and it shows up in the list of found files. When I select the file it opens up iTunes and plays the song and it also shows up under it's iTunes folder along with the .url file, wasn't there before. Hmm... It's like the file exists but it is hidden from Finder or iTunes until I search for it in Spolight.
I have never seen anything like this before. I sure hope I don't have to do this for every song.
Does any of this make sense to you?

Collage, changing from pse format to psd

I can create collages, but don't know how to save them as psd or jpg files so that I can use the collages in my scrapbook software. How can I get them from the editor to iphoto or picassa or a picture file?

This is tricky. Before 1.5, you could not do ap.add(10), you would have to do
ap.add(Integer.valueOf(10)); // OR
ap.add(new Integer(10));
This is called autoboxing and the compiler provides the extra code for you.
If you want to get it out as an int, you have to choices
1) Use generics
List<Integer> ap = new ArrayList<Integer>();
ap.add(10);
int ten = ap.get(0);2) Cast
List ap = new ArrayList();
ap.add(10);

What would you change from factory default on router

Newbie here. For all the master techs out there. What all should be changed from factory defaults on router to make it as safe as possible? thanks

1. Change the router password (default "admin") on the Adminstration tab. Choose a good longer password.
2. Enable wireless security WPA or WPA2 in the Personal/PSK variant.
3. Choose a good passphrase, if possible use a random generated 63 character string.
That's about what you have to do to secure the router and the wireless.

Schedule lines should not change 3 weeks time from MRP date

Is there any specific customisation required to get following results in case of schedule lines.
1) MRP should not change/adjust the already send delivery schedule lines which are lying within 3 weeks time from MRP date
2) System should not allow to book the GRN unless the messages / print out has been generated from the system in case of scheduling agreement.

Hi,
There are 2 possibilities:
1. use MRP fixing using planning time fences, this is done by putting the relevant settings in the MRP1 view of the material master
2. use the firming options of the scheduling agreement, these are set per material number that is entered in the scheduling agreement.
The GR can only be posted for schedule lines that have been processed aka output generated.

Your licence is not platform specific, so Lightroom can be used on any two machines (Mac and/or WIndows), with one actually being used at any given time.

CHRIS - you are exactly right about my FUTURE workflow. What I'm trying to figure out now is how to best handle images already processed. My import should be OK based on the way I have duplicates in separate directories, BUT I'm wondering how to avoid seeing all of these duplicates in LR when I search by keyword, etc.? I guess I can somehow flag the RAW files and only get them in my results.
One question though - Stacks, etc. sounds great for the LR processed images. But what about variations based on processing in Photoshop after the LR Develop stage? I guess in this case I will just have to keep duplicate images if I have multiple versions from my PS work?
ISAAC - Thanks for clarifying that LR will recognize my XMP files from Bridge. What about the opposite direction . . . if I edit something in LR and capture this via XMP, it won't prohibit Bridge from recognizing XMP info if I access a file via Bridge, will it?
ALSO - Do you know where I can find info about tracking via XMP vs. the central database? You mentioned a couple of valid points, but I'm not sure I have a full handle on the pros/cons of these options.

How do I move from PSE 12 to Lightroom 5?

I already setup my LR 5 to open PSE 12, but how do I do it from PSE 12 to LR 5? I only found to import a PSE catalog. I just want to go straight to LR 5. I like to work in Photoshop before going to Lightroom.

Lightroom is different from Photoshop and Photoshop elements.
What Lightroom is. The main functions of Lightroom is that of, 1. A file manager for files from digital cameras. 2. Processing RAW files from digital cameras. 3. There are other ancilitory functions, sharing pictures on the web, slide show, printing etc.
In essence it provides an alternative to the Library file handling and the ACR Plugin functions available in Photoshop Elements.
Its best to use Lightroom to provide the front end processes of managing and processing your files and then if necessary use the advanced pixel editing and file altering functions available in Photoshop.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

You will need to purchase the upgrade CD for 10.6 from the Apple Online store, OR you can likely get one at an Apple Retail Store. It is the last version that was available on CD. After 10.6, the upgrades are available in the Mac App Store.
