Should I create a new catalogue ?

Hi there,
I saw some youtube seminar from some top guru in Lightroom. I remember his advise was not to create a multiple catalogue and always stick to one catalogue.
I intend to follow his advice but I am now face with this problem below:
My 20TB Drobo 5D external harddisk which I usually uesed for Video editing will be getting full soon. I realise that it's getting filled up so fast because for the last many months, I have been putting timelapse raw photos into the Drobo 5D. All these timelapse raw fotos are catalogued in Lightroom
So, now I intend to moved all these raw timelpase photos into another harddisk so as to free the space in the Drobo 5D. I believe once I moved the raw timelapse fotos from 5D to a new harddisk, will the catalogue be all messed up ?
So what shall I do now ?
Thank you and appreciate the advice of experts here.
Thanks again

Let me give you the opposite advice. Keep everything in one catalog. There are rarely benefits to multiple catalogs. If you want all photos, time-lapse photos and videos of a particular subject, and they're spread out across two catalogs, you can't retrieve them easily using multiple catalogs. In one catalog, this is a simple search.
ONE CATALOG ONLY.
You can move photos and videos to another hard drive without messing up the catalog by following these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
Thanks dj_paige for your advice which is the same as the guru i saw in the youtube.
I read the link you gave me twice. The author is suggesting we copy the files in a new disk. That means now we have two identical folders at two different disks. This is a good precaution against corrupt files. But surely, after when you load Lightroom, it will be able to locate the files ... which is why I don't understand the section about ? folders and ! files and then do a locate ... Surely the ? and I would not come out since we are copying he same files over to another disk. (remember the author said we delete only when we are satisfied the files in the new disk are not corrupted ?)
Sorry, I am a bit confused about the link. Thanks

  • Should I create a new Apple ID for new device?

Hi, I just got a iPod Touch and I also own a iPhone. Should I create a new Apple ID for the iPod Touch or share with the existing one for the iPhone?

As content is tied to the account that originally bought/downloaded it, you are better off using the same account for all your devices - you can put content from the one account on multiple devices. You don't really gain anything by having multiple accounts, if anything it makes things worse e.g. having to remember two account ids and passwords.

If you want you're apps and content on you're iPhone then use you're existing account. If not then create a new account.

  • HT5622 My husband will become the primary user of our Apple account. Should he create a new Apple ID or should I change my Apple ID to his info?

I started with an iPod years ago and have since added an iPad and iPhone 5S to our list of products.  My husband is the primary user of the iPad and iPhone.  Should I change my Apple ID information to his name or should he create a new Apple ID and have my content transferred to his account?

Who ever uses the iCloud email address or has their contacts, calendars etc etc on the account should keep the existing ID for iCloud, the other one should create their own ID, you can both keep using the current ID for iTunes if you have a shared media collection.

  • Should I create a new iTunes account for a podcast?

We are still in the process of getting our first podcast edited and ready to go, along with the website, podcast hosting, etc... But I was curious about when we are ready to submit the podcast to iTunes.... Should I ceate a new iTunes account, dedicated to the podcast, or use my own personal iTunes account to submit. I'm a little hesitant about using my own, since I'm not sure how that affects anything in how the podcast is displayed, or notifications from iTunes. I would rather have communications go through the E-Mail for the domain I have set up for the website/podcast, but it's not the end of the world.
If it's used strictly for authentication, then it most likely won't be an issue. I just wanted to verify how it is used, and best practices, before submitting our first episode.
    Thanks,
    Mike

It is just for authentication - no need to create a new account for your podcast.
Just submit with the one you already have.
Any changes to your show in iTunes are managed via your RSS feed - not from your iTunes account.

  • Should I create a new iTunes Library on my new iMac?

I have been using a MacPro with multiple hard drives. One such 2TB drive has been the location of my MacPro iTunes library and media files. It takes up about 1.5TB of space with all the music, video and books. I use EyeTV from Elgato to record TV shows/movies, then convert them and transfer to iTunes. I also backup my iPhone and iPad to this iTunes library. I don't use iCloud for this backup.
I then purchased a new iMac with a 3TB Fusion drive. I plan to hang on to the MacPro to use on my home network as a file server, running "headless" perhaps.I plan to continue to use it for recording TV shows/movies in EyeTV and converting the output to iTunes videos.
Now I don't know what I should do about an iTunes library on my new iMac. When I got my iMac I migrated my User over to it. However, when I open iTunes, it is asking for me to either create a new iTunes library or open an existing one.
In my mind I have these options:
    1. Create a new library. Setup up iTunes Sharing. This could work for me to access my large library of music and videos. However if I start backing up my iPhone i will then have backups on both computers. I suppose I could dump or ignore the MacPro iPhone/iPad backups and just create new backups on the iMac iTunes? What about new content I want to add? EyeTV will still be adding new content to the MacPro library. My iMac has no optical drive so if I want to rip a CD/DVD I would still need to use the MacPro for this. So from that perspective, this option may work out the best. What am I missing?
    2. Open the iTunes library on the MacPro and make it my iMac's iTunes library. This seems problematic. If I understand correctly, I can't open this library on both Macs at the same time as this would likley cause issues. So I'd have to make sure I close out of one Mac's iTunes before the other Mac can open iTunes. This would be a pain given that EyeTV opens it up automatically when it is converting video recordings to iTunes video. For iPhone/ipad backups, I'm not sure what would happen here. Would it still backup to the MacPro iTunes library? I suppose it would. Another concern is the the MacPro would always have to be mounted on the iMac before I could access and use the iTunes library. So this options seems potentially frought with issues? On the plus I think this would retain the star ratings and other meta data, right?
    3. What about creating a new library on the iMac but then go into preferences > Advanced and selecting the iTunes media folder that is on the MacPro. This is similar to option 2 above but retains access to the existing library I have on the MacPro. However, I'd lose all my star ratings, and other meta data.
Is there another option? Which way should I go? I am guessing option 1 is the best option. If you agree, please list caveats and downsides of it. If you disagree, please let me know the best strategy I should use and why.
    Thanks.

Yes. Just copy all your music to a folder on your external. Then delete the music on your computers hard drive.
It is not quite that simple. If you do that you will end up with many broken links and will have to re-create your library from scratch .  iTunes does not like it when you move or rename files or folders and doing so between drives is guaranteed to result in exclamation marks indicating you have broken the links to all your media files.
If you are content with moving the whole library to an external drive (usually the best thing for most people), try:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

  • My email has changed.  Should I create a new Apple ID or add the new address as an alternate to the old account?

I have an Apple ID that uses an old email address.  Would like to use current email.  Should I update my old ID, create a new one or just add the new address as an alternate email for the old account?  I understand there are issues with updating apps if you change your ID.  Can someone please explain the best way to set this up?

Contact iTunes support, explain the situation & ask that they add your old apps to the download queue of your new Apple ID. If they do so(they most likely will), delete the old apps from your iTunes library & move all files to trash:

  • After a new install with old TBird uninstalled."Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" Should have created a NEW profile?

My Windows 7 Ultimate computer received an unauthorized Windows overnight update followed by error messages. Bless Microsoft. To compound the problem there were NO restore dates found and no recent backups. I lost about the last entire year of data including all my many downloads and recent documents, etc.
Like another user, I also had more than a year of Thunderbird emails in my inbox and many other folders. Important to me. Now TBird won't open...at all... and gives me an error message: "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." OK. So I uninstalled it and REINSTALLED IT, more than once, and still get this same error message after a supposedly successful installation. The error message and then TBird fails to open. Shouldn't it create a new profile with the new install?

No. It's looking for, and finding, profiles.ini but can't find the profile in the location stored in profiles.ini.
Deleting (or moving or renaming) profiles.ini should indeed force it to generate a new profile.

  • Why should we create a new sales document type

I want to know the actual reason behind creating new sales document type when the standard document is available

General procedure when setting up sales document types
You have three options for configuring new sales document types:
    1. Change an existing sales document type.
    2. Copy an existing sales document type and change it according to your requirements.
    3. Create a new sales document type.
    Recommendation
For small changes, SAP recommends that you copy similar existing sales document types in the standard SAP R/3 System and make the appropriate changes. Small changes might, for example, be, a changed description, a different number range or a different increment for the numbering of items.  The name is to start with the letter Z as SAP keeps this range free in the standard system.
This procedure has the following advantages:
All the specifications of the existing sales document type are copied. In particular, the data concerning, for example, partner determination, pricing or document flow which you would otherwise have to edit manually is copied.
You can test your new sales document types in respect to the settings made without having to edit the other settings.
When copying sales document types, item categories and schedule line categories, the SAP R/3 System automatically creates a log with the copied data. Using the log, you can check whether all of the copied data applies to your sales document type or whether you need to make changes.
    Actions
    1. If you need to make further changes, you should define new sales document types. To do this, you enter an alphanumeric key with a maximum of four characters for a sales document type and a textual description for the key.
    2. Maintain the specifications on the detail screen according to your requirements.

  • When should I start a new catalogue?

I have 21,000 images on an external hard drive that is now fill.  I am adding a new external drive.  I am using Lightroom 4.1.  Is it better to start a new catalogue or should I continue with my exsisting catalogue and just load the photos to a new location?

  • My wife and I each have iPads ipods and iPhones on one Apple account . Should we create a new account? What happens to our iTunes ,apps and iCloud? Can we share them? Will we lose any info?

MY wife and I share and Apple ID . We both have iPads, iPods, and iphones
all our purchases in iTunes , apps and iCloud are on this . If we create a new ID for one of us do we lose any of the data and purchased material or do we still share?

I would suggest that one of you retain the existing AppleID and use it for the iTunes Store, iCloud, and Messages on their iOS device and/or Mac accounts.
Then, the other one of you can create a new AppleID.
You then have two choices for how to share your existing store purchases:
    1) You can try the new "Family Sharing" feature: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/
    2) Or you can simply continue to use the original AppleID as your "iTunes Store" login on all of your devices (yours and your wife's), yet use a different AppleID to login to iCloud and Messages.
Family Sharing is supposed to be the solution to the problem and does indeed have some interesting shared features.  However, just using the same iTunes Store login has worked reliable for years.
The important this to realize is that in iOS and Mac OS, the logins for the Apple Store, Messages, and iCloud are all completely separate and can be independently configured.  So, you can each use your own AppleID for login to each of those services.  Just make sure to both login to the iTunes Store service using the same original AppleID.

  • Should I create a new version of my app?

I am upgrading an existing app from "Multi Folio" to "Multi Folio with Entitlement and iTunes Subscription"? Currently, I have created and downloaded the .ipa file. I used the existing Apple ID from Manage Your Apps and can get the new test app loaded, view the library, and download sample issues using a Test User account. But I can't sign in using the entitlement vendor's sign-in page. That could be on my end or on theirs.
So, here is my question: When I get the sign-in process worked out and am ready to upload the binary, will I need to also create a new version of the app in iTunes Connect. Or can I simply use the existing Apple ID from iTunes for the new app in App Builder?
    Thanks,
    Steve Walburn

Use the existing App ID in iTunes Connect if you want to replace the existing app. Create a new App ID only if you want it to be a different app.

  • I use multiple libraries with itunes - should I create a new library for a 2nd iphone

I use multiple iTunes libraries to manage multiple devices from the same PC.  I'm purchasing an iPhone 6 and currently have a library for my iPhone 4.  Would I create a new library for this new device?  Also, to restore all content to my new phone, Will this restore be done from the existing iPhone 4 library?  Is this process documented?

I can't address specific issues regarding iPhones, but in general you can manage multiple iDevices from a single iTunes library.  The test approach is to maintain one or more playlists for each iDevice you use, and configure the latter to sync only from the relevant playlists:
This article: Transfer content from an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device - Apple Support documents Apple's guidance regarding transferring content from one iOS device to another.

  • Should i create a new ipad or update from backup

Hi I have a new ipad Air and an older ipad. I would like to be able to use my purchased apps and other data on my new ipad that are already in use on my old ipad.
In setting up the new ipad should I check set up new ipad or should I set it up using the backup of my old ipad?
    Any thought welcome.
    Regards
    Colin

I've always restored my new iPads from the backup of the old one, so unless something's been going wrong with your old iPad, I can't see any reason why you shouldn't restore your new iPad Air from the old one so you get back all your settings and data.
