Should I delete files after moving them to a shared folder

I just transfered files from the hard drive to a shared folder so that both users on the computer could have access to the files. I was wondering if I should delete them from the hard drive and leave them only in the shared folder ...
if you just dragged & dropped them in the finder, the files will have been moved, not copied, to the shared folder. there shouldn't be any originals in the original location.

I am sorry that I didn't make my point clear enough. By "previous versions" I mean "File > Revert To > Browse All Versions". If I moved my files to a thumb drive then it will become empty, I am wondering is there any way to prevent it from being erased. Thank you!

Cannot delete files after emailing them

Ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard I cannot empty the trash if there is a file that I have added as an attachment in an email if Mail is still open. It will say the file is in use and I either have to quit Mail or Secure Empty Trash. This is really annoying. Anyone know of a fix? The file shouldn't be in use once it is sent in Mail. This never happened in previous versions of OSX. Also, if I have sent a file as an attachment I cannot save over it in the originating program because it is in use.

No, this is only for Mail. As soon as I add a file as an attachment then I cannot delete it without quitting mail or secure empty the trash. It isn't a data loss deterrent because you get that message making sure you want to delete it but when I say yes then it says the file is in use.
By the way, I shut off Time Machine for a day and then tried to delete a new file that I created after Time Machine was shut off that I added as an attachment to Mail and the same problem occurs. All other files that I do not add as an attachment in Mail I can delete with no problems.

Problems with certain mail attachments after moving them to a different folder in Mail

I am using Mac Mail as my default email client, and every once in a while when I move a message with an attachment from one folder to another (for example from my Inbox to my Personal folder) in Mail, the attachment will no longer show up, but rather an infinite set of characters.

Get info on the drive. What format? FAT drives may be behave erratically for heavy-duty use of the kind you are doing. It's okay to leave a flash drive FAT formatted for light use but for heavy-duty file transfer I think you can encounter issues.
iTunes does not look at files directly. It maintains a database (library.itl) of the files in its collection. When you play a track it looks up where that file is located and goes and plays the file in that location. If you manually move a file or folder used by iTunes that database is no longer correct and you get broken links ( ! ). If you want to move files or folders with iTunes you have to let iTunes do it. Since iTunes is organizing your library there isn't much flexibility in what you can do other than move the whole collection to a different folder by changing the media location preference in preferences.

I've read reports of people having trouble when storing Numbers 3 documents on Dropbox. I think it's related to the fact that they're not really "files." They're "packages" that look like files. I had thought that Dropbox had cleared this up with their latest update. You should be on Dropbox version 2.4 or later.
If you have Time Machine you may have some luck going back in time and restoring the document from a previous version.
Storing Numbers documents on iCloud works much better, at least for me, and (unlike Dropbox) iCloud facilitates automatic syncing to other Macs and iOS devices signed into the same Apple ID.
Perhaps you could consider keeping Numbers documents in iCloud instead. iCloud is deeply integrated into the app, and now works well.

I got this error many times for the same interface. Not sure what is the reason for this.
Searched on internet go comments that this is because of FTP version!

It is the "Msecs to Wait Before Modification Check" in the Sender Adapter that ensures this. It works like this: PI starts processing, finds a file, then waits the number of miliseconds specified and checks the file again to see if it has changed over the waiting period. If so, then it waits again to make sure the file is written completely. Only if no changes took place over the waiting period, it starts processing the file.
And the fact that your file was successfully processed at retry only confirms that it might have been still written to by the sender system. You can try comparing file's creation timestamp (in OS level) with its processing start time in PI - this could prove me right.

Welcome to the Support Communities! It sounds like you have already tried some of the troubleshooting steps below. If your Touch ID is not able to enroll any of your fingers, it may need to be serviced.

In a file to file scenario, the input file will be picked from a directory location and after processing output file will be placed in the output directory location specified in the receiver communication channel.
In the sender communication channel for the scenario mentioned above, if the processing mode is given as delete, the input file will be delete as soon as the file was successfully read by the adapter, but this will not ensure that the file processing is complete and the output file is being created.
If we have a scenario in such as way that the input file should be deleted from the input folder only if the complete process is successful and the output is generated. how can we achieve this functionality?.

You are running the comman line program configured in the receiver File Adapter,but in command line you mentioned the Sender File Folder , So i guess it's not getting processed.
Try this:
Try to run the command line in the Sender File Adapter Side
"Place this in " --> Run OS Command After Message Processing.
Hope this would work and get in parrallel with u r requirement.

i have a hp w1707 computer. i believe it has a 2 gb hard drive. now i recently bought a 160 gb apple ipod classic. i'm new to the ipod thing. and i was wondering if anyone could answer a question about space on my hard drive.
ive been transferring a lot of music from cd's to my computer and to the ipod, etc etc. since all the music from the itunes library is transferred to my ipod, should i delete the music files from the library after it is all transferred to the ipod? or just leave it there. i'm just concerned with space on the hard drive, and don;t want to eventually end up bogging my computer down with too many files.

Keeping movie files on iPod after moving them to external HD

I'm running out of disk space on my Powerbook's hard drive because of all my television show files and I want to transfer them to my portable harddrive to free up the space. But if I do this, I'm worried that the files will disappear from my iPod and I don't want that to happen. Is there a way I can delete files on iTunes but keep them on my iPod even while continuing to update the folders they are in (television shows, movies, Limewire, etc.)? Thanks!

Only by manually managing the updating. If you have the external why not just locate the iTunes library there? You have the iPod for portability you don't need the library on the Powerbook.

IFilter 9 64-bit deletes files and moves them into idividual folders

Our fire department scanned thousands of documents using Adobe Capture and stored them on a Windows Server 2008 R2. We then installed iFilter 9 64-bit so Windows Search could make these documents searchable. The second day iFilter was installed I noticed some unknown folders in the root of c: with names such as A9R2f4-115f67e8. By the third day these had grown to thousands of folders, each with one PDF document in it. I recognized the files as the ones that had be captured with Adobe Capture and checked their original location and found the files missing. It appeared that in indexing the files Windows Search with iFilter was moving each file into an individual folder. I removed iFilter and the problem stopped. Luckily I had a backup and was able to restore the files to their original location.
Months later I installed a new server at a different location. Thinking this was possible a conflict with another program or service on the original server I copied the adobe documents onto this new and clean server and installed iFilter 9 64-bit. Again, the first day things look fine but on the second day the folders once again started showing up in the root of C:, again I removed iFilter 9 and the problem went away.
This would appear to be a bug in the program since it has happened to two server, one a brand new Dell R710 with nothing on it except the server software and Adobe iFilter and the PDF files that were captured using Adobe Capture. I have called Adobe and I was told they do not provide support for iFilter other than this forum. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate the help.

I was not able to systematically examine this issue, because it occurred on a production system and, of course, I uninstalled the Adobe iFilters as soon as I read that they may delete pdf files. Before the uninstallation I noticed the AR9 folders appearing on c:\ and moved them from time to time to another folder. Using the search function inside this folder, I found that all files were present in duplicate at least. I concluded, that after moving the AR9 folders they were recreated containing the same files. Consequently, these files cannot have been deleted. Searching for the origin of these files I found that they were part of pdf portfolios, therefore my conclusion that they are part of the indexing mechanism of the portfolios. What I have not done (and what I am not going to do since it is a production system) is to fill a folder with pdfs and track what is happening to the files.
In case of my server, I think that the iFilters did not delete any files. Of course I cannot say what happens on other systems. I am definitely not going to reinstall the iFilters before knowing what they a really doing to the files.

I opted to delete movies after importing to Aperture from my iPhone 5s. I got an import error and the files were deleted. I tried a recovery utility found many but not these deleted files. Where did they go? Can I get them back?

Where did you find them in the Aperture Library six levels down? In the folder "Masters" or in a folder "Importing"? If it is Masters", they have been imported correctly, and you should find them in Aperture, when you search in Aperture with a rule "File Type" is video,
If they are inside a folder "Importing", the import has not finished correctly, and it would be safer to copy this folder to the Desktop and to try to import the videos again.

Unable to delete file after in a file adapter

I have a BPEL process , which gets invoked when there is a new .PDX file in a folder. After processing the data from the file , I want to move into the archive folder. The process moves the file properly to the archive folder, but I am unable to delete the file from the folder I read it from.
One solution that worked was forcibly dehydrating the process using a checkpoint(). But that seems a very inefficient solution considering its expensive to do this step. Does any one else have a better solution?

Just check the option "Delete after reading" in Adapter wizard if that is something you can do.. Adapter automatically deletes it once the file is moved to archive..
