Should I delete 'my music' icon in My Documents?

All my music is backed up on my external hard drive. Is it now safe to delete all the music which I have in the 'my music' icon in 'My Documents'? - its just taking up room on my computer.

Hold down the Option key while starting iTunes and select the library on the external drive. Check it out thoroughly and, if all is OK, delete all the music on the internal drive.
Note...
It's the Option key on a Mac. Look for +*multiple libraries*+ in the "Help" screens to confirm the correct key in Windoze.

    Hello Willlig
If iTunes media is taking up a good majority of space on your computer, you can move it by following the steps in the article below.

  • HT4914 if I sign up with itunes match can i delete the music previously stored on my computer?

I am thinking about doing the itunes match, but when i do should i delete the music previously stored on my mac?

Here is the official answer, from the iTunes Store Terms and Conditions:
"iTunes Match is provided on an “AS IS” basis and may contain errors or inaccuracies that could cause failures, corruption or loss of data and/or information, including music, playlist, and play history, from your computer or device and from peripherals (including, without limitation, servers and other computers) connected thereto. You should back up all data and information on your computer or device and any peripherals prior to using iTunes Match. • My music is completely messed up: many songs shortened to 3:01, many songs in different versions. Should I delete all and reimport all my purchases? Or is there a more elgant way of cleaning the media center?

I think you should just rebuild your library.
Clear it out, then drag all the song files back in. You'll lose your ratings and playcounts, etc but I don't see what else you can do.

Since the upgrade to iOS 6 some of my music playlists from iOS 5 do not work, eg recently added, recently played, probably because they are not available on iOS6. Should I delete them.

I should mention that I have the same issue with my Iphone 4s, now using iOS6.

  • HT204406 I am out of space on my I phone becuse of iTunes.  If I sign up for iTunes Match should I delete all my iTunes music off my iPhone prior to signing up for iTunes Match?

I am out of space on my iPhone 4S because of my iTunes Library.  I want to sign up for iTunes Match, but should I delete all my music off my iPhone prior to subscribing to iTimes Match?

I got rid of a my stored music once I paid for iTunes Match. But beware you then need an Internet connection to pay music and even then a poor signal plays havoc. I sometimes wait five minutes for music to start and more often than not it stops playing and won't start again.

  • Should I delete iChat Icons folder after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I see an IChat Icons folder alias in my Pictures folder.
Is the original file folder that it references used for anything in Mountain Lion? For example, can Messages access it?
Should I delete the alias and the original now that I have upgraded to Mountain Lion?
    thanks,

    Hi,
I am booted into Yosemite and the version there called Messages 8 (It is also Messages 8 in Mavericks but they are significantly different)
I see this and I think the labelling has changed
This is the lower end of Defaults.
At the top of the Apple User account selection. (see below)
That is followed by the iChat Icons selection. That is the Flags, Flowers and Fruits, guitars, planets and masks plus the Pokemon like ones and the gems
I have always found it defaults to the Recents "folder".
I am struggling to remember how it was in Messages 7 in Mountain Lion.

  • I want to delete all music not Syncing, iTune want to delete everything

I want to delete all music in my iPhone to gain space as I do not use it for listening music anyway.
My old computer was stolen and now when I plug my iPhone in itune and try syncing ZERO music it say it will erease everything.
I fear it will remove my Apps, apps data, photo and most importantly I fear it will change the order of my icons.
I do not have ticked anything but "Sync music" will it delete all music or EVERYTHING ?
Someone told me I should use WinSCP to delete the file manually,
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I believe MediMonkey will do that. It requires iTunes to be installed, but you don't need to open iTunes or anything.
    http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/free/
It is free but only available for PC and not for mac.
I used to use it when I had a PC, and I think you can just select all the iPhone music on it and delete it.

  • How to get rid of dupe music icons on iPhone, one with cloud, one without?

After getting a replacement iPhone, restoring from backup, and re-syncing, I have dupe entries for every song on the phone.  One has a cloud icon and one doesn't.  These weren't there before!  What happened, and how can I get rid of all these dupes (there are thousands)?
-- I don't see dupes in my library, nor on my iPad, nor in "On This iPhone" from iTunes... just on the phone itself.
-- The dupes exist even after syncing.
-- I tried deleting all music storage on the phone and re-syncing, but I still wind up with dupes, one with the cloud and one without.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

unsync the music from the phone. the songs with clouds are 'itunes in the cloud' which you download from the cloud server
the reason you don't see them in 'on this iphone' is that they're not technically on the phone nor are they taking up capacity yet
when you unsync your music, the songs with clouds should remain. you download them by tapping the clouds

  • Recover lost deleted corrupted music files tracks from iTunes match icloud

Just spent an hour on Apple's tech suypport line, all to figure out how to recover lost/deleted/corrupted music files/tracks from iCloud / iTunes Match.  Here's how to do it:
ASSUMPTIONS:  You're in iTunes on your computer, logged into your iCloud account.
Within iTunes, in the left-hand pane, select your Music library.  Alll your tracks should appear in the right-hand pane.   Those that are missing from your disk should be marked with an asterisk icon to the left of the track.    Do the following...
...select all the missing/lost/deleted tracks (using the option button), and hit the delete button.
NOTE:  when the delete dialog box comes up, make sure you do ***NOT*** click the "Delete from iCloud" selection!!!
...once deleted, select all the same tracks again, then hit the right mouse button, then select "Download".
All the tracks should start downloading, one by one, from iCloud.
NOTE:  If I were you, I'd perform this operation on discrete chunks (no more than 500 at a time), just to be safe.
    Good luck!

You can also recover the missing tracks from the backup you are keeping on an external HDD. You are backing up, aren't you?

  • I deleted my desktop icon - now I can't save things to the desktop!

After a complete meltdown of my computer (and thank GOD I backed everything up!!) ... I'm transferring everything back to my iMac from an external drive ... BUT, I deleted the little "desktop" icon from my finder folder - or more like, I dragged a desktop folder from the external hard drive and "replaced" the desktop icon.
Now I can't save anything to the desktop. When I drag something to the desktop it says "The item cannot be moved because the 'desktop' cannot be modified."
Is there a way to get this back???

    No ...
Under "Ownership & Permission" is says "You can - Read & Write", so that's not the issue.
    What I did was:
When you open the finder window, there are several icons that appear in the window - usually the Desktop icon, the Home icon, the Applications icon, the Documents icon, the Movies icon, the Music icon and the Pictures icon.
What I did was, I dragged a "Desktop FOLDER" over from an external hard drive and it asked me if I wanted to replace the Desktop. I said "Yes" and now I no longer have the DESKTOP ICON on the left side of the finder window and I can no longer drag and drop things to the desktop.
The desktop icon no longer exists, so I can't access my desktop VIA the finder window.
    Does this make sense?

  • How do I delete an empty icon page on my iPhone

I have somehow inserted an empty icon page ahead of my normal first page of icons on my iPhone 5. iTunes shows the page at the end of the others, but even after syncing, the empty page is at the beginning, ahead of my search page. Does anyone know how to delete an empty icon page from the iPhone 5? It is so illogical to me that it can't be done from within iTunes by just hitting the Delete key, the way you'd expect it to work!
    Thanks!

Go to Settings -> icloud and then you should see your icloud id, scroll to the bottom and select delete account, you are then able to add your new one.
    Hope it helps
