Should i delete my photos from iPhoto after I import to aperture

should i delete my photos from iPhoto after I import to aperture? What is the easiest way to do this?

Depends.
Did you copy the files into the Aperture Library on Import?
If so, it's safe to do so. My tip: wait a few weeks until you're happy that you're committed to Aperture.
Drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder to the trash.

I deleted a photos from iphoto, later I found them in imoive, how do I move the photos back to iphoto?

    Hi Canadian Beaver Tail!
You may want to try restoring the photo in iPhoto, using the instructions suggested in the following article:
iPhoto '11: Delete or restore a photo
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2398
    To restore a deleted photo:
If you haven’t yet emptied the iPhoto Trash, do the following:
Select Trash in the Source list.
Select the photo you want to restore.
Choose Photos > “Restore to Photo Library.”You can also drag the item out of the Trash into an empty part of the Source list.
If you use Time Machine to back up your computer, you can recover a photo, an Event, a folder, an album, a project (such as a book, card, or calendar), or a slideshow even if you deleted it from the library and emptied it from the Trash. To restore photos, quit iPhoto, open the folder containing your iPhoto library, and then open Time Machine. To open Time Machine, click its icon in the Dock, or click the Time Machine icon in the menu bar and choose Enter Time Machine. For more information on using Time Machine, see the topics in Help Center. In the Finder, choose Help > Help Center, and then search for “Time Machine.”
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

How do I transfer photos from iPhoto 8.1.2 to aperture 3.4.5 without upgrading iPhoto?

Again for Aperture questions it is best to ask in the Aperature forum. This has nothing to do with iPhoto. It only involves Aperature

  • Which devise should you delete your photos from first? iPhone or iPad?

Because of iCloud, if I delete my photos on one device they still stay on the other then end back up on my phone--you would think it would do the reverse.
On my macbook pro, 10.10.1, I do not use iPhoto, I just keep my pictures in a separate file. I have duplicated photos everywhere...help!

Remember that you should not store photos on iCloud. It's time and capacity limited. It holds up to 1,000 photos for no more than 30 days. So, import  no. 1001 and the first one is dumped. Leave them untouched and they will be deleted from iCloud after 30 days.
You can't delete individual photos from iCloud (only reset the whole thing) so trashing from a device will not trash from iCloud.

  • Cannot email photos from iPhoto after upgrade to 10.8

After upgrading to 10.8, I have not been able to successfully eamil photos from iPhoto. I can select the photos, click the email icon, and have Mail open with the photos attached (as expected). But the send button is grayed out, and the newly created message window cannot be closed. To get rid of the unsendable email, I have to quit or force shut down Mail, then reopen Mail and manually delete the email from Drafts.
Has anyone else run into this issue?

As Larry suggested go into iPhoto's Accounts preference pane and make sure your email account information is correct. If you joined iCloud that is a must.

  • How do I retrieve my photos from iPhoto after Yosemite 10.10.3 update on my Macbook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro and just updated to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
I noticed I had the Photos icon that the same as on my iPhone was on the dock where my iPhoto icon was.  How do I get my photos from iPhoto?
    Thank you in advance!

Apple does not sell iPhoto any more at the App Store.
But you should be able to reinstall from the Purchased tab of the AppStore, if iPhoto is showing among your purchases. You may need to unhide your purchases.  Also try the "Updates" tab at the App Store.
See this post by Tom Perkins:
Re: how do i sort albums by date in the new photos app?
I just went through the situation of not finding iPhoto 9.6.1 in the App Store. Working with Applecare, the solution was to (a) delete the iPhoto app, (b) restart my iMac, (c) go to the App store and click on Purchases, and (d) reinstall iPhoto. In my case, for some reason, iPhoto was hidden from my purchases.  Go to Store > View My Account, and go to Manage for Hidden Purchases, where you can unhide iPhoto.  Once I did that, things seemed to work okay.

  • Problem emailing photos from iPhoto after installing OS 10.5.1

Since installing Leopard I have had problems emailing photos from iPhoto. I can send from my laptop to another Mac without problem BUT when I try to email pix from iPhoto to a PC user or to post on my Google Group board it only sends the 'title' I gave it in iPhoto or the 'PC134567.JPG' the camera assigns it. I have tried exporting and attaching to emails but that doesnt work either .. at least not all the time. AND when I do send them from iPhoto to my office PC they arrive NOT as an attachment but are embedded in the email message .. seriously what the heck is going on and why is this not working the way it used to pre-OS 10.5.1? What changed? How can I make this work the way it used to?
Thanks for reading and hopefully solving my problem

Thank you again .. I got home and immediately tried the fix you suggested .. sent a 'test' email and it worked perfectly.

  • Deleting photos from iphoto after transferring to ext hd

Have seen other questions close to mine but not exact same. Hope someone can help. I have backed up all my photo's onto an external drive (actually 2 drives - 1 for current back up 1 for prev backup for redundancy).
Now I try and to delete photo's in iphoto but they are not deleting.
Remember seeing iphoto library - also modified file. I know iphoto keeps a copy of all originals and the modified ones. How do I delete these?
I have almost 20,000 pics on imac- last 6 mths all in raw format as got new camera. Can now longer download new pics as hd full.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do I delete the files from the iphoto directory?
    Under no circumstances.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I went to delete them in iphoto but they did not move to the Trash on the Dock.
They don’t go to the trash in the Dock. They go to the iPhoto trash.
Is that the iphoto trash it is talking about?
No, the iPhoto trash in entirely independent of the Finder’s trash in the Dock.

  • Can I delete my photos from HDD after importing them to Iphoto library?

I switched from Windows to Mavericks. I have many photos on my HDD (about 1 5000) structured in different folders with some files. Now I"ve imported all of this photos to my iPhoto library. As a result I got one big file of iPhoto library. The question is what happened if I delete all those old folders and leave only that one library file?

    Depends:
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
If you're running a managed library then you can delete those folders.

  • How do I delete photos from iPhoto that I imported to my library from my iPhone?

I imported a ton of pictures from my iPhone 5 to iPhoto (400+) and I want to completely delete them from iPhoto. Is there a quick, easy way to do this? I really do not want to go through my photo library and delete each individual photo, so if there is a way to delete already imported photos from my iPhone in iPhoto all at once, that would be great! Also, my Last Import folder is completely empty, so that's no help to me at all.

    Make a smart album
    File -> New Smart Album
    Camera -> is -> iPhone
    That will find them all
    Then
Shift-command-delete to move them to the trash. Empty the trash. Do this in batches of about 100 at a time.

  • How do I delete all photos from iPhoto?

My MAC is running very slowly and I have backed up all of my photos to an external drive. How do I delete all the photos from my iPhoto?

Becky you can navigate to the iPhoto's library which is likely in your Pictures folder in your user account. You can simply move that to the Trash. HOWEVER please please please move that folder to the EHD you now have and have iPhoto point to that drive. Apple explains how to do this in iPhoto '11: Move your iPhoto library to a new location
Once you have successfully moved the library you can then trash the old library and then empty the Trash. I suspect your performance issue may be due to a HD that is too full or it is also possible the HD could be failing too.

  • Deleting all photos from iphoto without deleting photos that I have 'shared' on social media

    Hello lovely techno wizards!
I have recently purchased an external hard drive for my macbook air in order to make more room. Therefore I have transferred all of my photographs from iPhoto to the external hard drive and now I would like to delete everything from the iPhoto application. However when I select 'delete all' it informs me that I will also be deleting all the pictures that I have uploaded to facebook, which I do not want to do... I could go through and delete them individually, but I have over 5,000 pictures and only share them sporadically. Please help!

    You're welcome

To make room on your MacBook Air you could also simply have dragged the iPhoto Library to your external drive and used it from there. You just need to make sure, the external drive has the correct filesystem.

  • How to transfer photos from iPhoto 8.1.2 to aperture

I have all my photos in iPhoto 8.1.2 and I just installed Aperture on my Mac, but it keeps asking me to update my iPhoto to the newest version.  I tried several times to update iPhoto with no luck.  Any suggestions??  Thanks

I do not use Aperature but I believe it has the capability to import from iPhoto - if you upgrade to iPhoto 9.3 you can share your library between iPHoto and APerature 3.3

  • Can I delete photos from iPhoto after importing them to an external hard drive?

For a while my family has been experiencing extreme slowness on our early 2008 iMac running OS X Lion.  We tried many different ways to speed it up.  I recently bought a new external hard-drive and was going to put some of our media on the hard-drive.  Is it possible that I would be able to put my photos, videos, and music onto the hard-drive and delete them from my Mac to possibly speed it up.  Also is there is any other possible way to speed it up?

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
