Should I delete old fcp4.5 content

I've just installed fcs2 should I uninstall my fcp4.5 old content to free up space. Presumably any project on 4.5 will just upgrade so the old content is not needed.

Should you delete any old FCP applications?
Yes
Will your projects update when you open them in FCP6?
Yes, you will ned to save them when prompted
Delete old applications...yes,
Keep projects that you want to have updated

  • Should I delete old Cookies?

    Hello,
A servlet used in a survey placed a cookie on the client to prevent the same user from voting twice within an 8 day period. I now want to post a new survey and am thinking I should set another Cookie with a different name. What should I do with the old Cookie. It has long since expired. Do I need to explicitly delete the previous Cookie through the servlet before I set the new one? Or does some process handle this and I don't need to worry about it. I just don't want to fill up a client with expired coookies, as I will be posting new surveys frequently. Thanks so much for any insight....Later

let the browser handle expired cookies. normaly browsers delete expired cookies automaticaly.

  • Should I Delete Old or Empty Catalogs to Free Space on Hard Drive?

Somehow I ended up with three catalogs in LR 4 -- Catalog.lrcat, Catalog-2.lrcat and Catalog-3.lrcat.   My original catalog in LR3 was Catalog.lrcat.  When I upgraded to LR4, Catalog-2.lrcat was created, and this is the catalog that I use.  I'm not sure how Catalog-3 was created, but all of the images are grayed out and have question marks on them.
I would like to free up some space on my hard drive by getting rid of -- deleting -- Catalog (104MB) and Catalog-3 (103MB).  Is this not recommended?  And exactly how do I go about deleting a catalog?

Here's one way to do it (year-by-year archives):
    * select the year's photos
    * choose export as catalog:
export to whereever you'd like to keep such stuff.
    Here's another way:
    * simply copy your active catalog folder to whereever you'd like to keep such stuff (exit Lightroom first).
The first way, you'll have multiple archive catalogs, one for each year. You'd never fall back to one of these, but you may import from them.
The second way, you'll also have multiple catalogs, each will be bigger by amount added since last archive... Again, you are unlikely to fall back to one of these, but you could, especially if you save xmp too, in which case you could recover most work by falling back to most recent archive catalog and read xmp metadata for all photos edited since then.
Different folks like different strokes - if you invent another scheme you prefer - do share it. For example you may want to archive just the lrcat file (e.g. as backed up by Lr), or maybe the whole cat folder (except for previews). Also, you may want to archive other user files too, e.g. as backed up by "Aux Backup" plugin. Note: if you use the first approach, you can backup photo source files in with the archived catalog (which is one reason I recommend it - a catalog with no photo files is about as much fun as a dead puppy...). If you use the second approach, you'll need a different plan for saving associated master image files (lest your archived storage grow like streganona's spaghetti pot ;-}).
    Hope this helps,
    Rob

  • Should I delete the motion 4 library before installing motion 5?

I just got a new Mac Pro with Yosemite on it, and I just installed FCP 7 last night, and when I tried to launch Motion, I discovered that Motion 4 won't run on Yosemite.  I'm a little puzzled about why the installer still let me install it -- I thought the installer is supposed to check to see if the software is compatible with my system? -- but no matter.  I see that the new version of Motion is fairly inexpensive, so I'll just go with that.  My question is, can Motion 5 use any of the Motion 4 content that the FCP 7 installer put on my system?  It does take up a huge amount of space on my SSD, and if it's not usable, I'd just as well delete it before installing Motion 5.  Thanks.

Most of the Library content is the same. If you plan to convert/upgrade older templates from earlier versions of Motion (and I believe Motion 5 will at least open Motion 2 projects correctly) you should keep your old Library content around, even if it's redundant.
There are a few filters that aren't around anymore in Motion 5. In order to get them into M5, you'll need to open a project that was created in Motion 4 that used the filters, then drag the filter (from the layers list) into the Library > Favorites section (if they still work in Motion 5). [Two specific filters that come to mine are Primatte RT (if you don't want to have to convert Keyed content) and the Displace filter (which has been replaced by Bump Map.) There may be a few others, and for awhile Droste was one, but that has since ceased to operate in newer versions of Motion 5.]
If you had 3rd party content like freebie generators from idustrial revolution (World and Coverflux still work in M5 that you manually installed, you'll want to copy those over as well (most of them still work in M5.)
After you've finished updating older projects and moving items specific to Motion 4 over into Motion 5 (via Favorites), then you can delete the old Library content.

  • Why can't I delete old backups from Time Machine?

I can actually delete them, but cannot empty them from the Trash Can.
    Any ideas?

You should avoid deleting backups yourself, but you are determined to do it anyway read the following, courtesy of Apple Support Communities contributor Pondini:

Your question is likely addressed in the third paragraph from the end.

  • Delete old version?

New iWork is now on my computer. Should I delete old version? If so hwo? I have A

    NO!
Look at these forums- literally thousands of posts complaining about the new version.
Use the new one to open only documents you know you have backed up becuase it can destroy formatting.  Play around with it and see if it suits your needs before ditching the old, working versions.

  • HT201250 How do it delete old backups?

I have decided that some of the files I save for the last years is not longer require and I wanted to save some space on my Time machine HDD.  So, how do I remove them?  Like the entire backup data on certain date.

First, open Finder and select the Time Machine disk under Devices, in the sidebar. Then, go to Backups.backupdb > computers and delete the Time Machine backups you need
WHOA!!!! That is extraordinarily bad advice! Messing with your Time Machine backups in the Finder can damage or even destroy your backups!
The proper way to delete old backups is described here:
Should I delete old backups?  If so, How?
However, note that this is completely unnecessary. Time Machine will automatically remove the oldest copies of files when it needs more space. Rather than deleting them now and discovering in a month that you actually do need to restore them for some reason, just leave them there and let them be removed when necessary.

  • Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?    Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?

I have 2 questions about the new Photos app for Mac (I'm running 10.10.3 on my MacBook Air 1.8GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2012)):
1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.

1.Should I delete my old iPhoto Library Current folder once everything is transferred to Photos Library Current?
You can, but I would wait, until you have have been working with Photos for some time and are sure, that everything migrated well. There may be hidden flaws in your library and teething problems with Photos. Don't be in a hurry to abandon iPhoto completely. You may need to go back, until bugs have been fixed.  Th Photos Library does not duplicate the photos in your iPhoto Library. the media files are shared and do not need extra space: See:  Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support
    2. Does this mean that all my new photos on any device can come off my Mac and ONLY be in the Photos Library which is in the cloud?  That would free 59GB off my Mac and that would be very good.
If you have enough iCloud storage.  But Photos will still need space for local thumbnails on all devices.
See:  Apple - OS X - Photos Preview
Fill your library, not your device.
iCloud Photo Library can help you make the most of the space on your Mac. When you choose “Optimize Mac Storage,” all your full-resolution photos and videos are stored in iCloud in their original formats, with storage-saving versions kept on your Mac as space is needed. You can also optimize storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, so you can access more photos and videos than ever before. You get 5GB of free storage in iCloud — and as your library grows, you have the option to choose a plan for up to 1TB.

  • Best practices to delete old content

What is the best way to delete old content? The amount of data (documents and recordings) is growing steadily and our server is running out of disc space. According to our policy documents and recordings older than 6 months can be removed.
What is the best way to do this (via API) and what else do we have to consider? Any recommendations?
    Thanks & best regards,

Remove the application from your applications folder.
Then navigate to the ~/Library/Application Support folder and delete everything in there associated with the specific program.
Also navigate to the /Library/Application Support folder and delete the files specific to the program.
~/Library/Preferences to delete the preferences you have for that specific application for when/if you reinstall it.
That's basically the most thorough way to remove something from your mac.

  • Should I delete the old version of Firefox 6.0

Should I delete the old version after downloading the newest version?

It's the same as almost every other Mac app, quit it and drag the new version into the same folder(usually the Applications folder) as the old one and it'll overwrite it preserving the preferences as it does so.
Though It should have done this itself via the auto update function in firefox.

  • ILife11 and old versions, should I delete them?

Any time I installed a new version of the iLife or iWork suits, or of any of their programmes, should I delete the old ones or keep them?.

The iLife apps aren't installed in an iLife folder in Applications, but are installed as individual apps in the Applications folder. It would seem that you created an iLife folder & the iLife '11 installer did not find the apps in there to delete so, yes, you can delete the folder.
There are reasons that some users would want to keep previous version of iWork but you certainly don't have to & can delete them. Remember, the current version of iWork is '09, so don't delete that one.
