Should I disable older Java Consoles in favor of the most current?

I've got many instances of the Java Console listed. Should I go ahead and disable all but the most current?

You can uninstall and remove Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.

  • I keep getting a new tab asking me to update Firefox & JAVA but I already have the most current versions. I also am getting ads on the homepage

After updating the most current Firefox I now get Ads on the home page that I can't get rid of even with the "X" box on the window. I have to shut down Firefox and start over to get anywhere. I didn't have this problem before the update.
I also had a change to the new tab/page feature. I used to click for a new tab and a series of boxes would show where I've been so I can perhaps select one. That feature has changed and I now get a tab/page that says it is owned by AVG. Where is my old page

If it opens in a new tab it is likely fake.

  • Firefox 4 on Windows Vista loads java applet for my MOO site then immediately closes Java Console, dumping me from the site, so I have had to go back to Firefox 3.6.17 which works fine

I have 32-bit Vista Business, with Firefox as my default browser. I recently upgraded to Firefox 4 and found that I can no longer access my VRoma MOO, which uses a Java applet to connect. I can connect to the site, but within 30 seconds the Java Console closes by itself (without my having done anything) and dumps me from the MOO. Following suggestions on this website, I uninstalled two earlier versions of Java which were on my computer and downloaded Java 6.0.25, the latest version. I also disabled previous Java Console extensions in the browser. None of this helped. I can stay connected with IE, and I can stay connected with Firefox 3.6.17, which I have had to install again. This is disturbing, because VRoma has many student users and I don't want them to encounter this problem if they are using Firefox 4.

    Hello Andrew.
You may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

  • After updating to OS 10.8.3 java does not function.  I've validated the most current version of Java is installed.  Has anyone else had this issue?

After updating to OS 10.8.3 java does not function.  I've validated that the most current version of Java is installed and active in Safari.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes indeed.  See this thread - I have found a fix, but I am hoping once the engineers see this (Bug filed) that someone has an easier method, or a patch.
Something went wrong with the update in certain instances and it kills the Java plugin.  Give this a shot - it takes a bit of time, but worthwhile.

  • Java does not exploit / make the most from my CPU... HELP

I am working with big matrices in an information retrieval platform wrote in java.
The main operation I do in this platform is compute the SINGULAR VALUE DECOMPOSITION of big matrices. This operation is slow, because SVD has an high computational cost.
Since I need to do SVD lots of times, I want java do it as fast as it can.
I have an Athlon X2 6000+, with 3gb ram, and, during SVD computation I can see (from task manager) that the process javaw only uses 50% of my cpu.
I want it to take 100% so it can compute SVD faster.
Is there a way to let java do this ?
I am already using this JVM options (on windows xp 32bit and eclipse):
    -Xms512m -Xmx1600m -XX:+AggressiveOpts
I hope someone can help me.

But you probably perform 1000+ decompositions. So you call the package methods from (at least) two different threads.
That way the package itself doesn't need to support multithreading.
One SVD shouldn't take that long anyway, (how big are your matrices?) so creating threads would be a bad idea for the method itself anyway.
Try to spot unrelated series of computations and make a thread out of those, maybe have a look at thread pools.
Since I don't know what you're trying to achieve I can't say more about how you could make your app multithreaded.

  • Java Web Start 1.6 fails to start application without Java Consol on Vista

    Hi All,
I've faced with problem related to starting my application in IE 7 on Vista SP1 using Java Web Start (JRE 1.6.0_12 and 1.6.0_13). I suppose that issue appears after 11th update of JRE 1.6 since it works fine before.
There were set settings to indicate initial and maximal size of the Java heap in the JNLP file.
Application consist of 2 JAR files and they are signed with the same certificate.
When user tried to start application there is no any activity after accepting certificate. After starting application javaw.exe just disappeared from processes list without any message or error.
When I changed default setting in Java Control Panel to show Java Console, I noticed that the application began to start. But it's not a solution of the issue, since all customers cannot be required to turn on Java console.
I believe this is a bug in JRE as the application starts with Java console and doesn't without it.
When I browsed the web looking for the solution or an advice I found Release notes for 1.6.0_014 where it was said that 6u14 Java Web Start failed to launch and notifies that JARs were not signed, if an insecure Java system property was specified in a sandbox JNLP file. In spite of that 14th updated wasn't used and there was no notification I tried to start application without settings for the Java heap and it worked.
Could someone help me with advice, since the application cannot be started with default heap size settings.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
as the 6u15 just arrived and the above mentioned bug should've been fixed (though I was unable to verify through the release notes), the error is still in there.
We have no timestamped jars, neither ours nor the bouncy castle ones, all certs are valid, ours is self signed.
    6u13 runs, 6u14/6u15 won't.
I followed the instructions here: http://bouncycastle.org/devmailarchive/msg10415.html to no avail.
The bcprov.jar is wrapped in its own jnlp and referred as extension from the "main" jnlp.
The interesting parts of the stack trace are these:
Caused by (via getCause): java.lang.SecurityException: JCE cannot authenticate the provider BC
         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
Caused by (via getCause): java.util.jar.JarException: Cannot parse https://localhost:8443/deploy/bcprov.jar
         at javax.crypto.SunJCE_c.a(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.b(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.SunJCE_b.a(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
         at javax.crypto.Cipher.getInstance(DashoA13*..)
For me it seems there's a problem with resolving the url of the bcprov.jar, which would explain the lack of a delay which normally occurs when JCE verifies the signature of the bcprov provider classes. The error pops up almost instantly.
I'm clueless what to do now. Did Sun really achieve to completely destroy JCE provider functionality in Javaws, forcing us to use an alternative implementation?

  • I'm using Firefox Ver 3.6.10 with updated Java console ver 6.0.22. After the updating, firefox doesn't allow pop up window anymore. Please advise.

I also face this problem in previous Firefox version but after updated to newer release, the problem disappeared until new Java console updates again.
The Pop up does not come out at all.
I have tried restart Firefox but when restarting, a message pop up and tell me that another Firefox is running and after I check into my Task Manager, the Task Manager shows that there is another Firefox is still running.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.

  • I find the remove older Java tool not very useful - Can't it identify the troubled applications

Suggestion - Why not make  an analyze  / remove older Java JDKs and JREs?
The ideal application would analyze both Windows Registry and  XML files for any reference to Java and determine the versions they would use if they were made available on
the file system / registry(windows). I would rather know that some nasty 3rd party application Norton Internet Security may be using as an example can be identified and disarmed
by either removing that application from the file system or updating the application to properly fix it. Also when no updates are available why not create a legacy release that
allows all versions to run under a wrapper that can handle any would be security violations that come along
Also if someone could please tell me what Oracle means when they state the importance of patching CPU fixes?  What exactly are these so called, CPU fixes and why are they so vital??
I believe Oracle owes its developers much more than some lame removal tool that could leave software on the client system or server just plain BROKEN.
Being an Oracle  Certified Java Professional  I think we deserve much more from Oracle on these issues. You know today Oracle gets the blame for all the Java
security vulnerabilities, exploits and successful hacks going on today. How can I be expected to develop code today with such stigmas
When the public starts raving about the safety of PHP and .NET compared to the awful problems of security found with Java software well lets just say it makes a harsh economic condition 100 times worse.
I am hugely disappointed in how Oracle is handling things with Java in this respect. They should be doing far better - Its outrageous it took 45 updates to maybe get things right and even that can not be a  sure thing. Based on Oracle's track record  I expect 60 updates by the end of the year and that just seems so wrong
These are just a few of my pet peeves on this issue

The Select>Color Range is only in the full versions of photoshop such as photoshop cs6.
As far as i know that's never been available in photoshop elements (from the factory sorta speak) except in version 3 using an action created in photoshop.
There are many other ways to make selections in photoshop elements.
As a side note and not really pertaining to your version of elements, years ago back in the pre os x days, there was a plugin for photoshop/photoshop le/pse 1 on macs quite similar in function to select>color range.

  • Java console not compatible with 6.01 Mozilla update

Since the 6.01 Firefox update, I can no longer view flash panels and some images are not appearing on web sites. I look and found all the java consoles greyed out with the message they were incompatible with 6.01 Firefox. So what do I do now? I also notice that websites suddenly disappear when I did not close them. Please fix this problem.

    Hi catnip009:
I can confirm cor-el's information that it is "normal" for the Java Console extension to be disabled in FF6 (see my post [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/870013#answer-247544 here] for instructions on how to test your Java installation).
When you say "flash panels", do you mean that '''Adobe Flash''' doesn't seem to be working on some web sites with FF6?
If that's the case, then try the following:
First, check your Flash installation [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ here] on the Adobe web site. If your Flash isn't working or you don't have the latest Flash v. 10.3.183.7, do the following:
    # Uninstall Adobe Flash from the Windows Control Panel
    # Download and run the [http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html Adobe Flash Uninstall Utility] to clean out remnants of any old installation
    # Re-boot your PC
    # Run the Adobe Flash Uninstall Utility again for safe measure
    # Download the Adobe Flash v. 10.3.183.7 standalone plugin installer (the non-IE NPAPI version) from the FileHippo site [http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/10462/ here] . Be sure to download v. 10.3.183.7 (the current stable version) and not a beta test version. '''Save the installation file to your hard drive and do not run the installation from your browser'''
    # Install Adobe Flash from the Run command (Start | Run) with the new installation file with all browsers and instant messenger software closed
    # Check your new Flash installation [http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ here].
If you also use the IE browser, the ActiveX version of Flash v. 10.3.183.7 for IE can be downloaded from FileHippo [http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_ie/10461/ here]. If you prefer you can re-install Flash from the Adobe site ([http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ here] for auto-detection of OS and default browser; [http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ here] for any version of Flash), but I prefer using the standalone installers from FileHippo because Flash occasionally doesn't install correctly when you run the installation from the Adobe site via your web browser.

  • IE 6.0/java console does not close in JRE 1.5

I have a browser page that launches an applet when we access it.
Usually, when I close this window the application would close too, but after upgrading to JRE 1.5, the browser instance continues to run, along with the java console unless I kill the process in the Task Manager.
It also gives this stack trace in the console:

  • Where to find Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console software on OTN?

Hi All, Please let me know where to find Enterprise Manager 10g Java Console software on OTN? Appreciate your help!
    Thanks!

"The Java Console program is on the Oracle 10G Client software CD. When you are prompted to choose the type of installation, select the Administrator option and the Java Console will be installed with the rest of the software. After the installation is complete, navigate to the Oracle home's bin directory where you installed the Oracle Client and type in:
    oemapp console

  • Want to hide Java Console Window when launching apps on Solaris 9.

    Hi,
I am working in a Solaris environment with Solaris 9.
When I launch any of my applications, the java console window appears.
I want to hide this window.
The java version that I am using is JDK 1.3.1_01.
I found this link that shows you how to configure your java settings to hide the console window.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/deployment/deployment-guide/properties.html
    1. I placed the deployment.config file in the appropriate directory:
${deployment.java.home}/lib/deployment.config     (${deployment.java.home} is the location of the jre from which the deployment products are run.
Deployment products include Java Web Start, Java Plug-in, Java Control Panel...)
In this file I have the following:
         deployment.system.config=/.java/.deployment/deployment.properties
         deployment.system.config.mandatory=false
deployment.console.startup.mode=HIDE 2. The /.java/.deployment/deployment.properties file is not created by default.
So I created it but still the java console window appeared.
The above configuration is the system level settings taken from the webpage I specified above.
I have also tried the user level settings but to no avail.
Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
    Rgds,
    Adrian.

    Hi all,
Thanks Jacky, the Control Panel is the best way to hide the console window.
I have achieved this when using java 1.4.2.
But when using java 1.3.1_09, the control panel does not give me the option to "Hide console" or "Do not start console as is the case when using java 1.4.2.
What it goes give is Show Java Console checkbox which I have unchecked and minimises the console on the desktop as a result.
Perhaps the functionality to hide (ie: not display) the console window is not available in the java 1.3.1_09 version?

  • The future of java and what is the most necessary skill to learn

    hi, friends,
This is a serious question, so please answer seriously.
    1. The future of java
Are there any future for java? What I mean are: are there any jobs for java developer in the future? are there any chances for new java company to survive?
    2. What is the most needed skill in so many java technology?
There are so many sections in java technology. so what is the most needed one for one to find a job? what is the most promising section for one to build a company.
    Thank your very much!

    It's a lousy question really.
    1) There are very few companies you'd call a 'java company'. There are companies that use java, but they also by and large use C++, DBMS systems, and a whole host of other technologies. If java died, they'd switch to whatever technology killed it. Any decent programmer is flexible enough to learn a new language in a matter of weeks. It's the ability to work with the theory behind the code rather than the knowledge of syntax that's important.
    2) It depends entirely on what you're doing. Working with a company where databases are key? Then you need Oracle, or SQL. Working with web technology? Perl, JSP, PHP, stuff like that is what you want. Working in high performance application design? You need C++. Graphics? Take a look at OpenGL or Java3d.
The most promising section to build a company? If there was a straight answer to that 1000 companies would have sprung up already and filled the niche.
Basically, if you want a successful career in programming, don't become a java programmer, become a programmer full stop. If you think you'll be working with java when you retire in 40-odd years you're mistaken. You need to grasp the basic concepts of application and algorithm design, and be quick to learn new technologies and evaluate them against what exists already.
It can take 3 years to go from complete newbie to fluent in a single programming language. It can then take less than 3 days to become fluent in another.

  • Should I "disable" the older versions of Java Console prior to version 6.0.24?

While exploring the new features of Firefox v4.0 I discovered, in the Add-ons Manager, that all of the previous versions of Java Console, back to v6.0.05, were still enabled. Should I disable all versions prior to the most recent?

I'm quite sure that it is not possible to extricate Java from MacOSX. When installed, bits and pieces of it go everywhere and to locate individual items and remove them is next to impossible.
That said, I believe it has been attempted, but whether successfully, I can't say.
Reason I know this is because I ran into problem with latest version of JRE on MacOSX machine operating as FileMaker server. Latest version of JRE caused java-based administration console to break.
