Should I "disable" the older versions of Java Console prior to version 6.0.24?

While exploring the new features of Firefox v4.0 I discovered, in the Add-ons Manager, that all of the previous versions of Java Console, back to v6.0.05, were still enabled. Should I disable all versions prior to the most recent?

I'm quite sure that it is not possible to extricate Java from MacOSX. When installed, bits and pieces of it go everywhere and to locate individual items and remove them is next to impossible.
That said, I believe it has been attempted, but whether successfully, I can't say.
Reason I know this is because I ran into problem with latest version of JRE on MacOSX machine operating as FileMaker server. Latest version of JRE caused java-based administration console to break.

You can manually remove those; they were not properly cleaned up by Java when updating. See:

    Hello,
Only option is upgrading your Mac's OSX, since Apple will not allow iOS to go backwards.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

  • Should I disable the sudden motion sensor after upgrading to an SSD

I put a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO in my MacBook Pro (9,1).  Should I disable the sudden motion sensor?  Does it do anything else other than park the hard disk (like something with the fans)?

You may want to read up on the SMS here:
Mac notebooks: About the Sudden Motion Sensor
Sounds like you can safely disable it if you wish since MacBooks which ship with an SSD drive seem to have it disabled.

  • Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected?

Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected? I'm told that it's better to only use the WiFi capabilities of the Extreme and leave the Bigpond to feed to the extreme.

No, bridge mode would not be the correct setting for this.
Instead, look for a "wireless settings" tab or page that will provide the option to turn off or disable the wireless radio of the BigPond router.
If you are still having difficulty, it would be a good idea to post your question on a BigPond support forum or contact your Internet Service Provider.

  • Have both FF 33.1 and 34.0.5. Can I, and should I, delete the older version?

This non-computer savvy senior citizen female is trying to clean up my Dell laptop (windows XP SP3) for the new year. What trash I've accumulated! Anyway, noticed I have 2 versions of Firefox. Version 33.1 is 79.58MB and version 34.0.5 has 84.4MB. Can I delete from my computer the older version? ... If someone answers this, please explain in simple language! ... Thank you in advance. ... HEALTHY New Year to everyone!

That is to say, remove Version 33.1

  • Can older verion of java run with new version ?

I am new to java.I confuse with the version of java.
I have buit system, like a website, with 1.1.8 version of java . Now, I will promote the JVM to the new version , like 1.2 version . What i will watch ? Is that ok ?
    Thanks everybody.

Yeah, it's ok - Java is backwards compatible. But you might want to check that it works first. Most old parts of the API have remained the same from the day they were first released, but you might get problems with methods like getX in the class java.awt.Point or getWidth in the class java.awt.Dimension.

  • In my Add-ons list I see Java Console with every version from 6.0.03 to 6.0.21. Why so many?

When FireFox notifies me to update an add-on I usually do as I am told. Java Console comes up with updates so I update it. With other add-ons the item in the add-on list is changed giving its version number but with Java Console the list simply grows with yet another Java Console listed.
It's not a problem, I suppose, but I wonder why it works this way and if it should.

You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions and disable the Java Quick Starter extension, you do not need them to run Java applets.
    See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Multiple_Java_Console_extensions
Disable the Java Quick Starter extension: Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions
    * Control Panel -> Java -> Advanced tab -> Miscellaneous -> Java Quick Starter (disable)

  • What versions of Java are compatible with version 17 ESR

Trying to identify which version of Java can be used with Firefox 17.0.4. Thanks

    Update to FIrefox ESR 17.0.7
Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the [http://mozilla.com/plugincheck Mozilla Plugin Check site].
Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions.
If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow ''Update'' button or a red ''Update now'' button, please update these immediately.
To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

  • How many versions of java console do I need in extensions?

In extensions I have java consoles from 6.0.11 to 6.0.24. Can I remove the old old ones? Mike

You do not need any of them. They are not needed to run Java applets.

  • Disabling the keys with my Java Program

I have a program that extends a JWindow. I would like to make this program my destop, as in disabling all function keys on the keyboard including ctrl+alt+del and others like that.
Some Internet cafe shops use this technique to restrict unauthorised customers from accessing their PCs.
If anyone knows how, please help.
    Thanks in advance.

Keys that are listened to by the Window Environment cannot be intercepted with Java alone. This include Ctrl-Alt-Del, as well as Alt-Tab for MS Windows. You would need JNI to do this.
If you use Linux, you could do it in pure Java, with one exception. Ctrl-Alt-Del would terminate X, and bring you to a console login. You may be able to disable that somewhere in the X configuration. This would prevent anyone from getting access to the system, unless they have the login for it. To do this you would need to setup X so it starts without the Gnome/KDE Desktop Manager, and runs your full screen Java app instead.

  • Uninstall previous versions of Java before applying new version?

    Hi,
I would like to push out java version 8.0.3.1 to some clients but I would like to uninstall any previous versions before doing so. Is this possible to do so? Maybe using supersendence? I am not sure what the best way to do this if anyone has any suggestions?
    TIA

    Should remove 25,
You could even stick it in a script and have it run before
    your script installs 31.
This way the old would be removed and the new installed
    in one deployment.

  • In FF 22, both "Java Platform SE 7 U25 10.25.2.17" and "SE 7 U5 10.5.1.255" are listed in the plug-ins, and the older "SE 7 U5" has a warning. Why 2 versions?

The older version with the vulnerability warning is listed under the plug-in update tool along with the newest version. The warning directs me to the Java site for installing the latest version. Which I did, and made sure (both using the Windows XP sp3 "add or remove programs," and the java.com "uninstall older versions" tool). Yet. the older "vulnerable" version still remains in the plugins list. I even tried "disabling" the older version, but it simply disabled both versions. Is the newest version (7 U25), actually safe, even if I can get rid of the older version? The thing is, I don't know for sure if some of the sites that I need to visit have to use Java or not. Like banking. And if I have to completely uninstall Firefox, how do I retain all my settings, passwords, bookmarks, and so forth?

    Wow,
cor-el to the rescue. You wouldn't be related to the renowned Kryptonian "Jor-el" would you (Superman's father)? Being as how your answer was super fast, and like a "hammer of steel," hit the evil nail right on the head.
Anyway, the link you supplied led to a quick and easy solution. The answer being in the "Manually uninstalling a plugin" section. Which allowed me to quick and easily find the offending ".dll" file, and put it behind bars where it belonged. Or, more precisely, place an "x" in front of the .dll name for the outdated java version, and now it no longer appears in the plug-in list. The new version is now correctly the only one reported.
Thank you ever so much. And may green Kryptonite never cross your path. ;~)

  • TS3489 Can the older version of Java be restored to the Mac OS X 10.4.11?  I have a new MacBook, but I like using my older desktop model for certain things.

Although I have a new MacBook,  I also have an older desktop Mac OS X 10.4.11 (which I still use) that just recently "stated" the older Java plug-in has been removed and the newer version needs to be installed.  The Mac OS X 10.4.11 doe not appear to be compatible with the updated version of Java.   Prior to this week, my grandchildren have been able to play some online early childhood games with this computer and I have been able to watch the occasional YouTube video.  Can the older version of Java be restored to the Mac OS X 10.4.11?

I'm not familiar enough with the Mac to know where your history is. Hopefully another Mac user can chime in.
