Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected?

Should I disable the wireless capabilities of my Bigpond modem/router when Airport Extreme is connected? I'm told that it's better to only use the WiFi capabilities of the Extreme and leave the Bigpond to feed to the extreme.

No, bridge mode would not be the correct setting for this.
Instead, look for a "wireless settings" tab or page that will provide the option to turn off or disable the wireless radio of the BigPond router.
If you are still having difficulty, it would be a good idea to post your question on a BigPond support forum or contact your Internet Service Provider.

  • Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections

Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."

In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.
Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on optimal base station placement.

  • Disable the wireless network card upon connection.

Has anyone done the following, if so can you provide some insite on how to do it and how well it works....If wireless networking is not being used in the organization, it is possible for CSA to disable
the wireless network card when it is connected to the corporate network. I'm assuming by using the system
state variable with the rule, you can allow laptop users the ability to use wireless when they are
not connected to the corporate network.

I dont' see a system state "ethernet active" do I create this? I'm on CSA version 5.1.0.103. I have a system state called network which has the description of All users who are logged on via a network connection. Is that the same thing you mean? Then how do I create the rule? I get to where I have a NAC rule but I'm not for sure what to choose after that.

  • How do I permenantly disable the wireless on HP 6700, 6100, 3000 all in one printers?

Wireless is not allowed in my environment. We turned off the wireless, but very easy for end user to re-enable it. And they have re-enabled it on several occasions resulting in security findings against our company. Need to permanantly disable the wireless. Is it possible or do this or do we need to throw away all current HP's and stop the order for the remaing 10,000 and find another manufacturer that has the ability to fully disable wireless on the printer.

    Hello Faasman,
Please find the below steps to disable the wireless on the printer .
    HP Oficejet 6700
Touch on SETUP > Network > Wireless ,   select OFF
    HP Oficejet 6100
To turn the wireless radio off, press and hold Wireless button until the light goes off.
    HP Deskjet 3000
Press the Wireless Button. It shows wireless menu on printer display. Check for Wireless Radio and set it to OFF.
If the issue still persists, then call HP Tech Support  for further assistance..
If you are in US , the toll free # is 1-800-474-6836 .
If you are not in US , then log on to www.hp.com , at bottom-left corner there is a world map icon, click on it and then select the region you belong to, which would then provide support options for you for that region.

  • Should I disable the sudden motion sensor after upgrading to an SSD

I put a 1TB Samsung 840 EVO in my MacBook Pro (9,1).  Should I disable the sudden motion sensor?  Does it do anything else other than park the hard disk (like something with the fans)?

You may want to read up on the SMS here:
Mac notebooks: About the Sudden Motion Sensor
Sounds like you can safely disable it if you wish since MacBooks which ship with an SSD drive seem to have it disabled.

  • Can I disable the wireless part of my airport express and use ethernet?

I have an airport express which is used to print and stream itunes to my stereo.
I just purchased an airport extreme and I am worried that it will lower my throughput from N to G. Is there a way to connect the airport express to the airport extreme via ethernet chord and disable the wireless part? I realize I can get still connect to a printer using the usb port on the extreme but then I have no way of streaming my itunes?

To adjust the wireless radio power on the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), using the AirPort Utility, either connect to the AX's wireless network or temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try these settings:
AirPort > Wireless tab > Wireless Options...
o Transmit Power: <select the transmit power from 10% to 100%>
o Click "Done" to close the Wireless Options window.
o Click on "Update" to save the settings to the AX.

  • How to disable the wireless section of Airport Extreme Base Station?

Is it possible to disable the wireless section of Airport Extreme Base Station?
It is because I do not want to have any high frequency radio signal which may be dangerous for small baby (no such proof for the moment, however).
Anyone using the new Airport Extreme Base Station please check and help.
    Thanks!!

I think you are a little too concerned. Just for the sake of how to, here it is.
go to manual set up, airport, wireless, wireless mode, and then choose off.
    good luck.

  • How to automatically disable the wireless interface when the LAN interface is connected

    Hi,
Is there a way to automatically disable the wireless interface when the LAN interface is connected on  R61s and X61s?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Thanks for the answer. I'm trying to deploy the profile that I've created on all my laptops. But i'm facing an issue for a while.
When the profile is deployed on a laptop, Access Connections finds a new ethernet port and asks to assign it a profile. But the problem is that Access Connection don't allow me to assign it to my wired profile, only to my wireless profile and that doesn't make sens to me. Besides, it is written in the dialogue box that ethernet profiles are disable for the match of the new port...
Is there any way to assign the new port to the new profile without human interaction or just how to make the wired profile available when access connection is launched and find a new ethernet connection
    Thanks in advance!

  • Can I disable the wireless signal?

I'm using a wireless router (e2000) as a wired router. I don't currently have a use for the wireless feature, so can I turn that off somehow?

    Wizzard wrote:
Under the Wireless tab, select manual and disable the option "SSID Broadcast" and click on save settings.
That won't disable the wireless signal. It will only disable the SSID broadcast. The wireless is still accessible. It will still cause transmissions. The network is still accessible. The presence of the wireless router is still easily detected.
Only setting the network mode to "disabled" will disable the wireless radio in the router, i.e. powering it off.

  • Can I disable the wireless function on WRT54G???

I just installed a WRT54G, and I am currently only using the wired portion of this device.  Is there any way to disable the wireless function until I need to use it?
    Thanks,
    Todd

Look at your router.   I assume the "WLAN" light is on.  If so, proceed:
Open your web browser and point it to 192.168.1.1.
Enter your user name (if any) and password.
This will take you to your router's setup pages.
Go to the "Wireless" tab, "Basic Wireless Settings"
Set "Wireless Network Mode" to "Disabled".
Click on "Save Settings" button, and wait several seconds for the page to refresh.
    Exit your web browser.
Verify that the "WLAN" light on the front of the router is now off.
If it is, you are done!

  • Can I disable the wireless functionality and use Ethernet only?

Can you completely disable the wireless functionality and use the Airport Extreme Base Station as a wired internet router with integrated print server?

Yes. I do that. I don't use a print server but I was using that port for an HD. My AExpress connected to it is wired also.

  • How to disable the 'Read Only' notification on an Access document when it is opened from within a document library (SP 2010)

    Hello,
OK, so I am currently having issues with opening MS Access documents from SP 2010. I have taken an existing database and uploaded it into a document library. Now, when I open this document I get the prompt to open it in either 'Read Only' or 'Edit'.
When I select 'Read Only' I can view the document, however I get the 'Read Only - Save As' notification when the document opens up. I have configured the document both from the source (on the original file) and from within SP to disable notifications - (from
    within the Trusted Options selection)
Deleted the document and uploaded it again, and the 'yellow bar' notification is still appearing.
I want to disable the 'Save As' function, or even hide this when the document is opened. Is this at all possible??

    Hi Terry,
According to your description, my understanding is that you don’t want the yollow bar notification to display when you open Access documents.
This issue seems to be about the client application. Please compare the followings with the things that you did:
     1.Open the documents
     2.Click File->Options->Trust Center->Trust Center Settings
3.Click Protected View, unselect ‘Enable Protected View for originating from the Internet’
4.Click Message Bar, select ‘Never show information about blocked content’
5.Click Macro Settings, select ‘Disable all macros without notification’
In addition, as this issue is about Office, I commend you create a new thread in Office forum, more experts will assist you with this issue.
