Should i do firmware updates

Hi,
I have a question
If you run an printing environment of .e.g. 5000 hp printers and all these printers are at different clients and different models, should you update all 5000 printers if new firmware is available for all of these printers.
I do understand that the new firmware resolves issues like Bugs and enables new features
But If it works 100% with the current firmware version would it be necessary to update it to the latest.

lol. well i thought it was normal.
and it also used to be whisper silent
and after firmware updates, it has stopped.
being silent. i didn't think it the fan was that loud
but just today i was like dang. i need this sucker fixed.

  • Same Firmware Update keeps coming to me

I just bought a blue tooth keyboard at the apple store; Apple update has told me 5 times to install the same firmware update.
I installed it the first timem.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I have the same problem, the window keeps popping up that I should install the firmware update, however when I start the update it says: "firmware up to date".
This problem only occurs on our iMac 20" running Leopard. On my MacBook running Tiger there is no problem.
I actually tried switching the keyboard, but keep getting the same error. Conclusion: the keyboard firmware is up to date, but somehow Leopard is not 'knowing' or 'remembering' this.

Should i get a firmware update for my N73 what r its advantages?

    Yes, y should install upgrades.

    3. Improves picture compression.
    4. Makes the phone running faster.
    5. Makes RAM uses effitiently.
    6. Fixes crashes.
    7. For N73, it gives stability [not quite still] to gallery.
So, that is why y should install upgrades for yr N73.

Hi there, I have MacBook Air (Mid 2012) with OSX 10.8.2. I want to update to latest OSX but it is saying that I need to first install MBA Flash Firmware Update 1.1. When I try to install this firmware, I am told I should have OSX 10.8.3, Each one asking other to update first, can some one help me in this regard ?

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS.* You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need the backup unless something goes wrong. If the system was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you may need the Apple ID and password you used.
If you use FileVault 2, then before running the Installer you must launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the FileVault boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) It will be nested below another icon with the same name. Click the Unlock button in the toolbar and enter your login password when prompted. Then quit Disk Utility to be returned to the main screen.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. The same goes for Xcode.
*The linked support article refers to OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks"), but the procedure is the same for OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later.

  • After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit then plug it back in? (bascially reboot it)

After a firmware update to airport express should I unplug the unit wait a bit and plug it back in?  (basically a reboot)

I updated the firmware on the 2nd of this month.  Everything was fine.  About a week later internet speed began to be slow.  I rebooted the modem and the speed was okay for awhile, then slow again. I'm wondering if it's the airport express.  It didn't tell me to reboot at the end of the installation.

  • Firmware Update should I download it?

Okay I know Apple recently released a new firmware update for at least all Intel based Macs and I have an Intel based Mac Mini at home with Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.8 and I don't want to install it if it causes problems. The Mac OS X Security Update 2006-001 in general was a major headache as iot broke Safari I had to reinstall OS X from scratch -- this was Mac OS X Panther though on a PowerBook G4 I have -- and that had OS 10.3.9 -- anyways it caused serious problems and I don't want to risk installing a defective upgrade again.
iTunes 6.0.2 for Mac and Windows also had problems -- I have a PC at home also with Windows and heard of problems Windows users had with that update. On my Mac iTunes 6.0.2 broke Disk Utility I had to delete the chess.app file for the chess game to make it work again.
iTunes 7.0.0 was also a major headache as iTunes would automatically crash as soon as I opened it or freeze up and not respond in which case I had no choice but to force quit iTunes.
I don't want to take another serious risk. If the update Mac Mini EFI Firmware Update version 1.1 -- which according to Software Update is 1.9 MB is safe I am willing to download it but only after getting a second opinion.

By the way I recently bought a new iPod -- I got it
online it hasn't arrived yet but will come via postal
mail -- its the 80 GB video iPod will use it with my
Mac Mini running iTunes 7 and was also concerned if
the firmware update could do anything to the iPod?
Like updating Mac OS X and plugging in an iPod could
cause the iPod to become defective?
You certainly know how to open cans of worms don't you!!!
First, congratulations on the purchase! I have the 60Gb model, bought when they were first released and I've been delighted with and much more impressed than I expected to be, particularly that using it for watching movies has proven much more practical than I had anticipated.
I also have to say that I have not had any problem with it, and have used each version of iTunes since it came out, with no signs of problems, and despite connecting it to a number of different Macs on a routine basis. But I have noted some complaints from users about specific updates that have caused them issues, so it can't be said with absolute certainty that there are no practical problems you will face - just that there are none that you are likely to.
I would advise against installing a MacOS update while the iPod is connected, but other than that I doubt there are any likely issues you'll have to contend with. Again, as with thew firmware issue discussed before, I think many of those who have experienced difficulties have done so as a result of a problem on their system, or with their iPod, that wasn't really related to an update or installation, but that undertaking the process simply brought it to light.
Even so, like any electronic device, there is always potential for failure at some point - hence Apple advising that all iTunes purchases be backed up, and indeed, for the advisability of backups and disaster recovery strategies as a whole. You would generally find that a non-destructive reset of the iPod would resolve most issues you would likely face, but there are some situations where a restore (which wipes data off the drive) could be needed, which is why you want to make sure you can put your data back on if that were to be needed. I have only had an iPod for 3 years (a 3rd generation model before the current 5th gen one) and with neither one have I had to do a restore. The 3rd gen model needed a reset once when it had appeared to lock up, and it's still in regular use now.
I'd say you should keep a copy of your music in a safe place just in case, but more than likely you will never need to resort to using it.

  • When should I expect to see firmware update 1.1.1???

when should I expect to see firmware update 1.1.1???

It seems unlikely that they would phase it out on their own; see the recent European rollouts announced. I agree that it may go the way of the Newton, but that only based on Apple not updating the phone, fixing/patching. The Newton was an amazing device, it just never worked quite right. I had one. The iPhone is the same...sadly I have one of those too. I truley hope Apple continues to invest in the iPhone and evolve it into the phone some designer envisioned day one.

  • 2.1 Firmware update - Should I do it?

So, I read a couple of posts regarding some really bad stories involving dead SuperDrives after the upgrade, therefore I decided against doing it, as my unit works just fine.
Any comments on what the firmware actually improves?
    Thanks!
    Cristian.

Well it seems that a lot of people are having troubles with that firmware update.
It apparently killed both my SuperDrive and the HD. I won't know for sure until I take it to the Apple Store later today tho. I've done everything I could... sigh
If I were you, I'd wait until apple releases a new firmware, or talk to them about it.
But we don't know if the firmware ruins all superdrives - people whose computers work fine after the update wont come to these forums, obviously!

  • Macbook 2008 4,1 serious problems after 10.6.8 and 1.4 firmware update

I'm having a problem with my 2008 2.4Ghz Macbook. After doing a fresh install of 10.6.0 with a Retail DVD, the MB was working perfectly, absolutely no problems at all. I then ran Software Update and installed all the recommended updates to 10.6.8, and I only noticed in passing that there was a Firmware update to do too, as reported by Software Update. I ran that as well and, IIRC, it was applied after fully updating to 10.6.8 and after rebooting twice. The MB rebooted, ran the Firmware update (which seemed to complete fine, as the progress bar completed normally against the grey screen), then rebooted. Again, IIRC, after running the Firmware update, and I'm now at 10.6.8, I started a Repair Permissions and left the MB for a while. It was the next day, maybe 15 hours later, when I went back to the MB and it was in Sleep. I pressed a key to wake it and this is when the weirdness started.
The screen was "fuzzy", sort of out of focus, though I could see the desktop, and what I could see was: the Disk Utility window open on Repair Permissions (which had completed normally) and several Vertical Segmented Bars running across the bottom part of the screen, at about the height where the Firmware Update progress bar was. These bars were filling in from left to right. IIRC, it may have looked a little like when you wake from Deep Sleep (or Hibernate, or whatever it was called). Like when you Wake from Sleep after the battery has run out and then you plug the AC adapter in.
Anyway, before the Vertical Segmented Bars progress was completed, the screen went black. Pressing keys didn't bring the desktop back.
I did a forced shutdown, reset the SMC, then rebooted. No startup chime. The Superdrive, hard drive and fans spun up, but the screen remained black. After a few reboots, I got a desktop back, and tried to reinstall from both an external HD (with Restored disk image) and the Retail Snow Leo DVD. Both times, the MB booted to the startup screen: with the external HD, I held down Option and chose the Snow Leo install; with the DVD, the MB started normally while I held down the C key. The boot started from the HD and the DVD, but after about 60 seconds, with Apple logo and the spinning "cog wheel", the screen went black. And seemed to shut down. With the external FW hard drive, the drive made a loud click, its LED went off, then it came back on after a few seconds, as if it had lost all power to it, then the LED lit up when power returned to it from the shut down MB. Anyway, the installs failed.
I then attached the 2.4 MB to another MB (2.1) in Target Disk Mode and it booted fine into TDM. It showed up on the 2.1's desktop, I ran Check Disk and it checked out okay. I then looked under Startup Disk and the 2.4's disk was listed there, with 10.6.8.
I then booted the 2.1 from the 2.4's disk and it booted fine. I ran check Permissions, and a huge list of permissions to repair came out. At this point, I've left things as they are. The 2.1 is booted from the 2.4, the latter used as external boot HD.
I then replaced hard drive and RAM. Tried to boot from DVD and install, got to Apple logo and spinning cog wheel, but after about 2 minutes the screen went black.
I then connected an external monitor and rebooted from the DVD. The external display received a video signal and I got to the Snow Leopard install screen. All this time the Macbook display has remained BLACK.
I went to Disk Utility and reformatted the new drive, then started the installation, which completed fine. The Macbook runs normally connected to the external display.
    Any thoughts?
Why would the Macbook display work fine at boot (Apple logo, etc.), but then cut out after about 2-3 minutes?
Why would the Macbook screen remain black while I got a video signal on an external monitor?
Does this sound heat-related in some way? I should note that while booting from the DVD and now installing Snow Leopard, the fans are going pretty fast.
I just want to point out that this was an absolutely pristine, impeccable Macbook until these recent problems. It is in fantastic condition, none of the usual chips out of the top case and trackpad area. After the latest fresh install of 10.6.0 it was perfect upon reboot. Fast, perfect Airport and Bluetooth, FW and USB worked perfectly with a FW drive and USB mouse I hooked up. The update to 10.6.8 via Software Update seemed to complete fine.
Then all the problems started AFTER THE FIRMWARE UPDATE.
I don't know how much stock can be put in the firmware update being the cause of the problems, but the sequence here would bear that out. These are also somewhat unusual problems, at least in my experience.
One of the odd things was when I first went to wake the Macbook after the firmware update: the "fuzzy", out-of-focus screen and the segmented progress bars. And it was just before the segmented bars completed progress from left to right that the display cut out and went black. And from that time on, I've had the aforementioned problems.
Any ideas or links to similar problems would be greatly appreciated, e.g. possibly firmware related, or where the Macbook screen works but goes black after a couple minutes. And now that I've been able to connect to an external monitor, it would seem that the video signal is okay too.
    Thanks.

    Just to update.
After leaving the Macbook unplugged and without battery for a few days. I reset the SMC and, with no battery installed, I've just now rebooted and:
    1) the first time, it booted, but no chime, and when the display turned on, once again I got the "out of focus" desktop AND the segmented vertical bars on the desktop (and the bars were filling in from right to left); the display went black after about 10-15 seconds;
    2) I shut down and swapped some different RAM, then reset the SMC again and booted without battery. This time I got the boot chime and the Macbook booted to the Apple logo screen and spinning cogwheel. After about 2 minutes, the cogwheel stopped spinning, as if to boot to the desktop, but then the display went black. The front light started to pulse after about 10 seconds, and the Macbook appeared to be in Sleep.
    3) I woke the Macbook from sleep by hitting a few keys and this time it went to the desktop. This is the first time it's gone to the desktop since the problem started.
I had enough time to see that everything appeared normally on the desktop, such as the time and date, Airport was connected, etc. And then the display went black again, after about 10 seconds.
At this point, I can now always get to the desktop, but the display goes black after about 10 seconds. I have just enough time to press a few keys and the Macbook does respond.
    4) I shut down and reinserted the battery. Here's where new problems show up.
With the battery inserted, and the Macbook in sleep, if I hit a key, the DVD spins up as the Macbook is waking, BUT now the front sleep indicator light FLASHES (blinks) 5 TIMES. No beeps.
The Macbook still gets to the desktop, like before, and the screen goes black after 10 seconds.
I found some info on the Apple site re. 5 flashes (Article 21502):
If you don’t hear beeps, but the sleep indicator light flashes five times when you start it up or wake it from sleep, its battery may need service. Take the battery to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, such as an Apple Retail Store.
For more information, see the Apple Support article below.
You can continue using your computer before you service the battery. Use a different battery, or connect the computer’s power adapter and plug it into a power source.
Note:If you use your computer without a battery or with a faulty battery, you could lose all unsaved changes if it’s unplugged while it’s on.
BUT, the battery is not defective, as it works okay in another Macbook.
I should also point out that the problem with the 5 indicator light flashes or with the battery did not exist before the 10.6.8 and the Firmware 1.4 updates.
    Any ideas?

  • New Firmware update, computer much worse off

Hi all, this is my first post, I just did the new Macbook firmware update today (November 14th), I was experiencing the problem that the update was supposed to fix, but not my Macbook is doing the problem worse (now when I flip the lid closed it won't come back from sleep), and my mouse (both trackpad and USB mouse) will only right click (no matter if I am right clicking or left clicking), I've checked the settings for my mouse and they are correct (in fact I hadn't changed them at all in the past month)
Very irritating, anyone out there having a problem with this latest update? What should I do?

Scratch the mouse problem (quite embarrassing) I had something sitting on my bluetooth keyboard which was out of site at the time, and it was holding the ctrl button down

  • TC issues after latest firmware update

Here is the skinny, my TC went through the normal firmware update a bit ago. Wednesday my Internet stopped working, when I use the Airport Utility app it showed the TC online, at first, then it gave me the error that the TC did not have a valid IP. Thought might have been a problem on my ISP's end so I grabbed another router and set it up Internet no problem. Has to be the new firmware right so I pushed the firmware back 3 versions, and still the same thing no valid IP but connected to the Internet but no HDD (Yes it said not a valid IP but connected to the Internet on one wireless PC). Everything else in the house would not connect to the TC they could see it but when you went to connect never asked for a password and I got the spindle of death type deal. I saved my settings and did a hard reset with the button on the back of the TC, started over and rebuilt the connection, same thing happened not a valid IP. I have read that Apple released 3 different firmware updates supposedly the last one works, it doesn't when I load the firmware I get the same error TC does not have a valid IP. I need some help, I have cycled through power down and power up situations over and over. Anyone have any other suggestions?

    Need some more info.
What is the modem.. make and model?
Is it both modem and router or just a modem?
What is the actual model of the TC.. the number from the base.. A1xxx where the x are numbers.
The latest firmware is an issue.. that is 7.6.4 and you should go back to 7.6.1
But it does seem hard to get rid of properly.
I want you to do a factory reset not just a hard reset.
Universal Factory Reset.. any model TC or AE.
Unplug your TC/AE from power or turn off at the power point.
Hold in reset. and power the TC/AE back on..  all without releasing reset and keep holding in for about 10sec. (this is often difficult without a 2nd person or a 3rd arm).
Release it when the status light flashes rapidly. If it doesn’t flash rapidly you have missed it and try again.
    Note..
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel..  add no more pressure after that.
TC/AE will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations of the router.
No files are deleted on the hard disk in a TC.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility.
Please redo the setup using all SMB names.. that is short, no spaces and purely alphanumeric characters.
eg TCgenx (use actual gen if you want) for base station name.
TCwifi for wireless name. (or TC24ghz and TC5ghz which is well worth naming both bands so you can test more carefully).
Please download and install a v5 utility on a computer if any of them use up to Mountain Lion.
Tell us what OS the computers are running and I can tell you how to install the old airport utility.
Test the TC in bridge to your other router is also a good alternative.

  • Latest Firmware Update Issues with Screen Sensitivity

    Hi All,
I synced my original iphone a few days ago and it required a firmware update. Since then, I have had numerous problems with the touchscreen for email and texting. Sometimes, I cannot open a folder on one of my emails or send a text because hitting the "send" icon does nothing. I've restarted my phone and reset it but have not yet tried a restore. Had anyone else had these issues?
And do you have any other suggestions I should try before doing a restore? Many thanks.

Do not know about its compatibility and functionality.. but if you are OK with Beta softwares.. you may have a look at..
