Should I download mountain lion ? I have a 2 year old mac book pro

This isn't really a case where we can tell you what to do.  You have to tell us more about your computer use and needs and we can make suggestions.
Do you need it?
2 years old means you're probably running OS 10.6-something.  Do you have any really old software you use?  You may have to update some of that too.  sometimes people spend a few dollars on Mountain Lion and then hundreds on associated requirements such as hardware upgrades, or a lot of software that needs newer versions.
Are you planning on buying a new computer in the next year or two?

I have now spoken to Apple about my problem and they told me to explain the situation to my Broadband service provider British Telecom (BT).
For reasons not explained, BT suggested the problem lies with the Router hardware they have supplied (BT Business Hub - 2701HGV). Although it is relatively new there is something that prevents it from downloading Mountain Lion???
They are posting me a new one which will not arrive for 2 days. I will let you know if the new router solves this issue.

  • Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo   Processor Speed:     2.66 GHz

Will Mountain Lion work on my 4 year old iMac with Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a 2.66 gHz.
Really do not want to load it and find there are issues.
Oh I really not a big tech guy I just want everything to work well.
And I'm just about to purchase a Mac Book Pro as well.
Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated
    Cheers

I also have a 4 year old iMac 24". it is the 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I have been running Mountain Lion since it was released, and before that Lion. Runs great. Over the last month I have noticed some slow data transfers from a USB harddrive. But not enough to do any research. I use a USB harddrive for my Time Machine backup and notice no problems or slow transfers while the Time Machine backup runs. My iTunes has its nedia files on a USB harddrive and is used to watch videos, play music and share photos on the AppleTV. I also use Aperture on the iMac to store and manage 20,000 photos.
I have 6 GB of ram, 4GB and 2GB memory sticks. I know it is best to have identical ram sticks but my iMac model cannot run 8GB of ram and I feel 6GB is better than 4GB.
Mountain Lion is a great OS and I am glad I upgraded. It works great with the AppleTV (no airplay but iTunes on the iMac serves up all our music, photos and videos), iPhone, and iPod Touch. Also with my wifes brand new Macbook Pro. All the devices including the iMac can share data on iCloud.

i have an 6 year old mac mini with issues that started two weeks ago. I can turn it on , get blue screen and turning circle and nothing else......help !

    Hi,
Have you tried some of these? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
The first things I would try would be to press shift during start up, this will boot into safe mode.
I think you'll need to purchase a copy of Snow Leopard to re-install the OS.
There's another couple of suggestions here; http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417 where you can boot into single user mode and look at repairing disk permissions if that's the problem.
I would hope that if you could boot into safe mode or single user mode, then that may automatically rectify your current issue. If not, then I'm pretty certain that a fresh install will be the ultimate answer.

  • HT3546 Although I am connected to the internet via Airport the internet connection does not stay on and comes with a "time-out" message. The airport connection is still on however. I have recently bought an old Mac Book 1.1.

I have recently bought an old Mac Book after having purchased an iPhone and iPad.
The internet connection (via Airport) keeps timing out while the Airport connection is still on as confirmed by the Mac and shown on the task bar.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Peter

Only fixed this in the last day or two . . .with this!

  • Mountain Lion upload after restoring factory setting to Mac book pro.

I have just cleaned up my Macbook Pro by restoring it to Factory settings but now I want to download all my bought and paid for apps to my now cleaned laptop.  How do I go about this.  Mountain Lion for instance does not seem to have installed with the software upgrade.
Where do I go to sort this?  I have tried to view my purchases in apple store but nothing comes up.
Look forward to some guidance.  Thank you.

Thanks jeanphicrosoft, but unfortunately although the purchase of the upgrade to mountain lion shows up there is now where for me to click to download it again and when i go to the App store it doesn't say that I have already installed it and therefore shows that I would have to pay for it again.
Is there anyway I can contact the App store?

  • Which Apple computer is best for video - Final Cut Pro X, Photoshop et.  I have a 7 year old Mac Pro which will not accept FCP X.

I have an Apple Mac Pro.  It is almost 7 years old and will not accept FCP X.  I have been waiting for Apple to make a new Mac Pro, but  I don't know when that will happen.
    Any recommendations?

Do not put new money today into Mac Pro 2008 or previous. (the FBDIMM memory is too expensive).
Some say skip the 2009 model as the 2010 is better (has built-in support for hex processors) but not a lot more money.
Computers will always be better, faster, and cheaper if you wait. [A new Mac Pro may not be solid on day 1.] At some point, you have to get your work done, and just have to hold your nose and choose from what is avaiable and stable at the moment.

  • Why am I not able to download mountain lion 10.8.2 to my new Mac mini

I have just bought a Mac mini mainly for my photos ,videos etc. but I am unable to load them on until an iPhoto update is installed - that update requires 10.8.2. Which is not available for the Mac mini.
    When will it be available
    Thank you

  • I have a 3 year old mac pro running 10.6.8 should i upgrade to the latest software?

Will the upgrade slow down my computer or will it be more beneficial?
    Thanks for any info, D.D.D

There is no way to intelligently answer your question (re: performance).  Since you are running what is unsupported software (by Apple), I would seriously consider upating to the latest software.

  • I have a 2 year old Mac Air

I have a 2 yo mac air which I am getting no assistance from Apple in repairing . The unit went in early this year to have a broken hinge replaced . When it came back it would occasionally power off on its own ...... it would have to be restarted up to 8 or 10 times before it would stay on again ..... it would boot up to different stages each time sometimes powering off before you opened a browswer sometimes after opening until finally it would stay on . It has been into the apple service agent / service centre 5 times now ..... each time for 2 to 3 weeks ....... last time they said have found the problem and fitted new hard disc I had to pay for ...... just recieved it back last friday now is worse than ever ...... they want to take it back for the 6 th time and i am getting highly ........ about it  about 6 months 5 times in already for 2 to 3 weeks a time ............................................ Now it is powering off every few hours instead of days as previously .... anyone have any idea’s apart from junking it ????
          Thanks

    Carl
Thanks for your comments but do you really believe after 5 trips you would be going back ..... you would not be starting to &%%^%% each trip no computer for 2 to 3 weeks . I have near come to the conclusion it is time to go back to cheap throw away computers that you know after a year something goes wrong you throw away and buy a new one .
These people do nothing to help ...... do not listen to what they are told ....... and at this stage I believe they are calling me a ...... not truthful person shall we say ....... who now covers the cost for the unsucessful repairs???? I have already wasted so much time with lost work ..... time is also money ......
I have called Apple continuously ..... they are not helpful at all ...... i have already spent near 50% of the cost of a new unit and the problem only started from the first time they got thier hands on it .
If these units were built as throw away units and are unrepairable let them say so at least people will know what they are buying ...... and I can stop getting upset about their attitude and move on to a better unit .
As for them being human that is true but they are the product representative and the consumer has a right to expect to be treated fairly
