Should I get iPhone 4 or 4S as backup? Don't need SIRI

I purchased an iPod 4 for gaming and a radio dock for music/alarm and they work great but the iPod is difficult to handle, slipping out of my hand when I try to adjust the volume or hit the power button, and the screen has this annoying silvery sheen that doesn't look good, not even comparable to my Razr. I want to get an iPhone 4 or 4S because it's easier to handle, has a fantastic screen, and would be useful as a backup/test phone. I am with Verizon and after reading the different specs, I'm not still not sure which version would be better for me.
I don't care about Siri (I prefer non-spoken results), I'm not sure I need dual-core or the 3D power, and I'm not sure I need the differences in carrier bands, and I'm not sure the 4S is worth the extra cost. If I'm mostly using it for gaming and music, then possibly a backup phone, which should I get? Specifically I am looking next to run Plants Vs Zombies 2, and I'm not sure if it will run slow.

Get the iPhone 4S. It has an A5 processor vs. the iPhone 4 A4 processor, and more memory. I'm not sure if the camera matters to you but it also has 8MP vs. 5MP in the iPhone 4. Plus, that way if you change your mind about using Siri, it will be available to you.

  • How to get iPhone pictures from iTunes backup

I had an iPhone4 that was physically crushed. My company replaced the phone with an non-iPhone. I was good about using iTunes to back the phone up. How do I retrieve the pictures that were taken with my iPhone and was backed up using iTunes? I wasn't using iCloud. I didn't see an obvious way. Are my pictures on my computer but "lost" forever?

After searching Apple Support, and just playing around with iTunes, I finally found a solution!
When in iTunes, click edit, and then select 'Add To Library'. I selected pictures from iPhoto, and since then, I've been able to manage my photos, and sync them to my iPhone once again!

  • Need advice - should I replace PRAM battery even if I don't need to?

I'm getting ready to open up my iMac to replace the internal memory and DVD drive. While I'm inside, I was thinking I should go ahead and replace the battery. I keep my machine on 24/7. I have no idea how long a battery lasts. Its woking fine now. But since I'm opening up the machine and using thermal paste, and all, should I also replace the battery?
I assume pulling it out to replace it resets the PRAM. Not sure what effect that will have on my machine. What will be reset? Could it cause me any problems? What settings will I lose? I could always wait until the battery goes and then replace it. Is that a better idea? I don't know anything about PRAM, etc.
    Thanks,
    Alfredo

Mac OS X: What's stored in PRAM? will answer your question.
Since you are going through the effort to replace the DVD drive, the loss of PRAM settings is the least of your worries. I presume that you have the necessary technical knowlege, tools and skills to perform this surgery, and as long as you have gone through the effort to open the case, I would also advise that you take this opportunity to replace the battery.

  • How to get rid of Application Manager? Don't need to buy the Cloud. Photoshop is no longer working.

    Hi
I am an existing LR4 and CS6 customer and downloaded the "Application Manager" a while ago which asked me to do a trial of the cloud. I actually never got around to using anything cloud related except Photoshop (which I already own) and the trial ended a few minutes ago. Now I can't seem to get into Photoshop anymore and am in the middle of doing wedding shots due in a couple of days. My only choices were to buy the cloud or exit. How do I get rid of this annoying Application Manager? I tried the applications/utilitiesd/adobe installers folder, but the only choice was to unintall Photoshop only. This is so unprofressional of Adobe I can't believe it. Help.

OK ..fixed the problem (after spending an hour with tech support with no luck, I posted a note on Juliiane Kost's Facebook page and got a response from Adobe which works great). Anyway, go to this blog post from Adobe's Jeffrey Tranberry .. http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2013/01/photoshop-13-0-413-1-2-updates-now-available.htm l . Essentially when you get asked to purchase after the trial ends, click the license button and enter your original serial number from your purchased version of Photoshop. Then you will once again be in Photoshop, run the update and you are good to go.

I can't open my AVI files and see video, I only hear the audio with a black screen. My format for my dash cam is H.264. When I try and open my files the messeage I get is
The document “DR153659.AVI” could not be opened. A required codec isn't available.

It's most likely in VLC or Perian, but may not exist for Mac OS X.

  • Need a quick answer should I get just wi-fi or wi-fi cellular thanks

Need a quick answer should I get wi-fi or wi-fi w/ cellular what do you think is the best way to go. Will be shopping for one in the next few days. Thanks

It depends upon where you will be using it - do you need to be able to access the internet when you are away from wifi networks, and/or do you need built-in GPS (only the cellular iPads have a built-in GPS chip) ? If you get the cellular version then you don't need to activate a service on it until if/when you need it

  • For college should I get the new 2013 MBA in 128gb or 256gb ?

Real world MBA experience from current/former college students would be preferred. I plan having music, documents, textbooks, comicbooks, maybe videos, and Boot Camp.

If you're going to jack it up with music and videos, forget about the 128 GB version. That's what I have and I'm constantly looking for something to delete to make room on the SSD.
If you don't need to "carry" all your stuff when you leave the house, you can get by with storing  what you don't need on the road on a external hard drive.  However, access speed won't be anythink like the SSD.
My vote would be to go for the 256 GB drive.  I'm going to get the 13" 256 GB unit.  I've been using the 11" for about 18 months now and the screen is just too small to read comfortably, especially doing Excel.  Yes, I can zoom in, but then the screen shot just doesn't show enough of the surrounding cells.

  • How do i get iphone backup files to show in itunes?

    Hi.
Ive recently had to start using another computer due to a component failure, and as a result managed to wiped my iphone of its original contents during an update on the 'new' computer. I have my old hard drive connected to this computer via a docking station, and can access all the files on it with no problems. I've deleted any itunes stuff on the 'new' computer so that the only apple/itunes stuff is on my old hard drive, but when i launch itunes, its not like it was when i left it. no music loaded in library etc. not a major issue as the music is all still on the hard drive. My issue is with the apps and back ups for my phone. I can view the folders with the back ups in, but they wont show in itunes. I'd love to restore my phone back to how it use to be.
Can anyone help me out, as i'm at a brick wall with my knowledge level.
    thanks in advance
    Dave.

You can open an alternate library by holding down shift when starting iTunes.
A GUID is a Globaly Unique IDentifier. I this case I the backup folders appear to be named bunch of numbers & letters probably meant to be unique. If your original library opens properly (and you haven't wiped the device) then you don't need to worry about restoring the iPhone backups from the previous system.
There's another GUID buried in the iTunes Library.itl that identifies your old library as the "home" library for your device. If you try to connect the device to a new library, even if it has all the same content, iTunes will want to wipe the device and start over. Not so much a problem for media but you might lose app settings. Best if you can connect properly to your old library, otherwise restoring from a preserved backup should restore your app data.

  • I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

I did a backup from my 3G and want to get the backup now on my iPhone 4, but the backup from the old 3G is not shown as an option to configurate. How do I get the information on my new phone?

First, back up your old iphone manually:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your phone to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your phone without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your old phone for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the phone for the first time.
About backups and what's saved: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
How to back up and restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
How to download apps for free again:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
After that, connect your new phone and let iTunes set it up. iTunes will detect the old 3G backup and ask you, if you want to use it to restore the info on your new iphone. If you agree, all settings and data will be present after the process is finished.
This is also explained in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137

  • How large of a backup drive should I get for my 500 GB MacBook Pro?

I have a MBP with a 500 GB hard drive. How large of a backup drive should I get for time machine backups? If I get a 500 GB drive will it just back up everything twice (as I have 250 used) and then delete the second backup every time it rebacks up so I will just have 2 backups? Or does time machine only backup changes every time it backs up? Thanks in advance.

OK, so I ordered a Seagate 1.5 TB external drive. That should suffice for my iMac w/ 320 GB and MBP w/ 500 GB shouldnt it?
Probably. See #1 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.
Should I just partition it 750/750? or maybe 600/600/300
Use roughly the same proportions as the data on the two Macs, adjusted for how you use them. If one changes lots of big files frequently and the other doesn't, give more space to the first one.
so I have space to put random files as well?
If you put important stuff on a 3rd partition, you can have TM back it up, too (unless the drive is attached to your Airport), but it will send you a warning reminding you that it's not a good idea to have both originals and backups on the same physical disk. You'll be much better off finding another way to back that up, perhaps archiving to CDs/DVDs.
Am I able to partition it and use it with my airport extreme?
    Officially, no: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/15139.html
    and: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2426
But some folks (including me) are doing it anyway!
So if it works for you, just be aware it's technically unsupported, and you'll get little or no help from Apple if there are problems. And a future update may break it.

  • What kind of external drive should I get for my macbook pro for backups etc

what kind of external drive should I get for my macbook pro for backups and storage

Hi, i have a Mercury Elite-AL Pro from OWC, www.otherworldcomputung.com
    this is the one;
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEAQ7S1TB32M/
have had this for over two years, moved around a lot with the drive, ( to date ) no problems, they have good after sales support; give them a call if you need info.
There are a lot of drives out there as others here will let you know, there are good NAME drives but they also fail, POPULAR drives also fail, select the one you are happy with for your system and how you plan to use.
i suggest if $ is not a problem get a big drive you will find someting to put on it and is better.
    hope this helps.

  • What cover should I get for new iPhone 4?

I'm getting my aunt an 8GB iphone 4 as a gift and am trying to figure out what version of screen/body protectors should I get? Will the new iPhone 4 for Verizon be the same as the Verizon 16 & 32 GB iPhone 4's? Please help.

I have the iphone 4 incase slip case. I was against cases, but since I dock my iphone to charge it, this worked really well. It's also very descrete looking.
I've also heard otterbox makes some really nice high end cases. They are pricey and bulky but do the job.
There is also the 12south book book case that acts as a car holder and case and looks like a leather book. This looked appealing since I do read with my iphone a lot but it was big and seemed more for a purse or counter then my pocket. I could see getting it for an ipod touch.
